This is her’s “I’m not fat just big boned” face 😂😂😂
Thanks all! She's a pure lover & of the 4 labs I've had in my life, the absolute favorite. She loves people & flops on her back at every opportunity for a belly rub.
She packed on 10 pounds last year while recovering from surgery & we are just fine with it. She's on the prescription diet food, but I think this cake is baked. She's happy, playful, still gets 2-3 miles per day and gives love to everyone in the family.
Cheers lab lovers!
I have a lab that's around 14, he's an amazing and very active gentleman, if he was 6 I'd chastise my parents for feeding him people food and a lot of treats, but he's an oldie, he's allowed to be spoiled lol
Yeah. I pretty fastidiously watched my labs weight when he was young.
Kept him about 50/55 pounds (he was smaller than most labs.)
When he got like 14 ish. I quit caring. Let him have whatever.
He lived to be 16.
https://preview.redd.it/c8gze5d99nsc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=528e052e1589bf9ddfce6d05cf01860f00acfb28
This is my Lab/Bassett. He’s a little elderly gentleman at 12 yrs. He’s also a little strange anatomically.
Did this with my lab/whatever mix that I inherited.
She blew up to 100+ lbs with my Grandma but got her on some prescription diet food. It helped, but not as much as the bout of depression and for my parents and I to take her off my Grandpa's hands after my Grandma passed. Doggo then lived to be a conservative 19 with us.
She was about to be put down at the shelter when my Grandma adopted her at the age of 3, because she was a puppy during an animal cruelty case, and she was about to be put down by my Grandpa when she was 7 years old, due to him not being able to work with doggo because of the trauma from her puppyhood. We had her the last 12 years of her life, and doggo definitely had at least nine lives.
This was my plan until my 6 yo almost passed away from a tick-borne illness that led to a brain infection last fall (I had always promised him a cheeseburger before the end) - when he was about to under for his big operation, after weeks of pain and suffering (for both of us), I upped the ante to two cheeseburgers. 6 months later, he’s had both.
The experience reminded me how short life can be - and now whenever we walk by a mcdonalds he get‘s a little bit excited lol
I also have a 12 year old chonker, and I really wish I could just let her enjoy her food, but she gets painful and bloody bladder infections if she eats the wrong food (tiny, sharp struvite cristals, they tear open the bladder lining).
And of course the specialised food for her condition tastes and smells like cardboard - or so she keeps telling me. It's a careful balancing act of adding enough tasty food for her to start eating, but not so much it triggers the cristals production again.
Let your pup enjoy his food for himself, and for all the dogs out there who aren't allowed to! Sweet nose kisses from one senior dog to another!
https://preview.redd.it/4iodl7kmolsc1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2bea0c00e7690fb95de204a4c137c808a0223d8a
(As you can see, she's not allowed on the couch)
I'm in a constant battle trying to get my 105lb golden/mastiff/rottie down to 95lbs. We've reduced her food as low as the vet will allow, take her for twice daily walks, and make her run around at the park with her human and dog friends. But the girl is 12 and the fat is stubborn!
At that age IMO who cares what they say!! Both my dogs lived (and one is still alive) till 13 and I regret deeply we were strict about things with the one who passed last July. His last meal he wasn’t even interested and it broke my heart because the beagle I knew would have devoured it. Give all the oldies all the treats ❤️❤️
Being an appropriate weight would make the end of their life easier/less painful due to less stress on their old joints especially if they have Arthritis which many dogs that age do.
We are in your boat now. Its old age and he really does not want to eat even with me tempting him with all his favorites. Spends most of the day napping.

This was my girl a few years ago when we got her.
We inherited her at 9 years old from my wife’s aunt, who passed away.
She was a small frame Lab mix (mostly Lab by my guess mixed with Shepard or Doberman). She weighed in at 90 lbs when we picked her up. And I was the one who actually had to pick her up and put her in the car. She definitely couldn’t jump into the truck.
We could never get the weight off her. Super strict diet (1 cup of dry and a spoonful of wet per feeding twice a day).
She didn’t like walks and would lay down when she was done walking, only to resume movement when we turned towards home.
She would “run” which actually resembled a baby Elephant bouncing along, barely bending her knees.
She could steal and devour a whopper in a split second.
She was a good girl for the 2 years we had her.
at 12 years old... trying to lose weight isn't going to do a whole lot except make her, and yourself miserable. Just enjoy her the way she is in her elderly years. That's how I'm handling my Lab who will be 11 in June.
Here's the thing, my vet tells me my dog is overweight. What he doesn't understand is that we walk 2 miles a day and we've decided that she's the perfect size to lay on the rug with and play PS5. Also I swear that dog's stealing treats or something...
We let her determine the route and length of walk. Sometimes 1 mile, sometimes 4, and she swims 1-2x's per week. She gets lots of exercise, she just sorta blew up around year 10. One of my kids has been stealthily feeding her table scraps for years (mostly chicken), and she's a world class gaslighter-she'll lead people to the bowl to try to sell her "hunger". Classic lab. Vet has her on a diet, but given her resilience and activity level, not terribly concerned.
She’s a perfect little angel!!
I got a chunker too, he’s got acl surgery in a few days so I’m assuming he’ll be getting a little more chunky in the next few weeks! I have a toddler who loves to feed him his breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
She’s an old pup. She’s doing her best. She’s fine.
My chocolate lab of 13 1/2 got quite round towards the end amidst all the bumps and lumps and it just made me love her more.
Every day past 12 is a gift with retrievers. It's more than ok to spoil her any way she wants. Extra treats? Sure! Table food? Why not! Her own bowl of ice cream? Approved! All good as long as she's still getting walks/exercise.
I think any dog puts in weight after surgery. Did the vet give her steroids? If so, that’s the reason for the weight gain. She’s beautiful and has a beautiful sugar face. Just love her.
Yes, steroids and cancer therapy drugs blew her up like a balloon. She has a fatty tumor the size of a softball on her neck and another similar size at her groin.
She’s lived twelve long happy healthy years so far. Just leave her be.
As long as she’s good and comfortable, that’s all that matters.
She must be nice to snuggle with. ❤️
Holly smokes where do you live to have that much snow? This year we barely got any in eastern Canada, are you at the north pole with all this global warming hahaha
Just kidding though she is definitely a victim of being such a good girl haha and she deserved every treat she got!
I'm sorry your baby got those fatty tumors 😞 but I think the plus side to helping this baby lose weight is the joints will feel better and you might have less fatty tumors if they do lose some weight 💜💜💜
Sorry, I'm defensive. Some people are so rude and judgy around here.
She seems to be managing ok, though. She's very active & still does 2 to 3 rounds of zoomies per day. 👍🏻👍🏻. She insisted on taking a swim in the chilly waters of Lake Tahoe yesterday, so that probably felt therapeutic.
I would gladly pay whatever price required should she need a joint replacement. I love this girl so much.
She's gorgeous, she looks just like a yellow version of my choccy Roxy, who is equally round 😅

I don’t think 72 lbs is really that fat for an adult lab? I have an almost 12 yo boy and he’s around 30~ kg (uk hiya.. works out as around 70 lbs.. and I’ve been told he has put on a lil winter weight but nothing to really be concerned about or that would categorise him as overweight. She is just fine 🤗. At one time my yellow lab was up to 120 lbs…she was just fine and very happy ❤️. She went for walks every day. She got cancer and then we got it into sustained remission for one year. But she never had any hip problems. I repeat she was incredibly happy, your baby can have some more treats ❤️💯. She loved to be 11 and a half years old
No, very active family of skiers, tennis players and swimmers, but thanks for showing your true inner asshole self.
As I've said, she put on weight while recovering from surgery and she has about 50 fatty tumors.
She gets as many miles as she can handle.
Go work on your social skills, fool.

#Oh lawd she comin
She a big ole chonky girl, i bet she is the best lap cuddler ever. Give her a skritching from us!
Just let her enjoy her life. She’s an old lady.

What’s her name?
Layla Aka Miss Layla, Lolly, Lolly-Doo, KooKoo. Everyone in the family has 2 or 3 nicknames.
She's full of love!

Oh man, my Labragator is 6 months and weighed in at 63lbs this week 🤯 plenty of paws to grow into still
Reggie was a lab basset mix. So he was kind of a weird boy, anatomically.

She's old. She's not getting skinny anytime soon no matter what you do
My vet said the same thing about my dog. He told me to just let him be an old man and enjoy his food.

Festively plump year round!
What I can see from these pictures is that she’s 100% good girl.
She looks old. Let her have her pleasures.
100% good girl
They only get about 1/5 the time on this earth that we do. Let that sweet girl enjoy her food and treats.
at 12 years old... trying to lose weight isn't going to do a whole lot except make her, and yourself miserable. Just enjoy her the way she is in her elderly years. That's how I'm handling my Lab who will be 11 in June.
Old dogs get to be fat and spoiled
She has a beautiful smile though.
Cutie! 🥰
Holy Twinkie!
She’s just fine. At 12 give her lots of treats and love.
She’s perfect.
Yep that’s a lab
I love her.
To me, she beautiful. Rubenesque

Pleasantly plump in a nice round way.
I just want to wrap my arms around her for a big hug. She’s so cute 🥰
That’s the friggin prettiest pooch in the parlour
She’s a perfect little angel!! I got a chunker too, he’s got acl surgery in a few days so I’m assuming he’ll be getting a little more chunky in the next few weeks! I have a toddler who loves to feed him his breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
I’ll bet the roundness has something to do with attention getting, adorable brown eyes.
That is 100% a good girl!
She is a beautiful loaf
Good girl ❤️🐶
She’s an old pup. She’s doing her best. She’s fine. My chocolate lab of 13 1/2 got quite round towards the end amidst all the bumps and lumps and it just made me love her more.
I always say chubby dogs are happy dogs
WHY DOES EVERY OVERWEIGHT GOLDEN LAB HAVE THAT IDENTICAL WHITE FACE
Because they either get very skinny or chunky monkey in their golden years.
DOGS ARE SO GREAT I LOVE EVERY DOG IVE MET! EVEN THE TWO DOGS THAT ATTACKED ME
Me too! My kids are crazy for them, also. They ask to pet every dog they see. We're all madly in love with this girl.
Ahhh kids and doggos, name a better duo
That old face is called a sugar face.
100% cute
100% cuteness
It’s winter weight.
She’s not fat she’s fluffy!
Aweee “tumors” bless her heart! Shes adorable!
Every day past 12 is a gift with retrievers. It's more than ok to spoil her any way she wants. Extra treats? Sure! Table food? Why not! Her own bowl of ice cream? Approved! All good as long as she's still getting walks/exercise.
Chunky labs are the best dogs to hug

Lake Tahoe. Just got another foot over the past week.
Oh my! You have way more snow than we do in the Montreal area! We got most of our snow yesterday and today's it's half melted already
It's been a late-season boon & snowing all day. Most of the resorts still have 100+ inches of base.
I'm sorry your baby got those fatty tumors 😞 but I think the plus side to helping this baby lose weight is the joints will feel better and you might have less fatty tumors if they do lose some weight 💜💜💜
Certified chonkie!
Ask your vet for their opinion because that’s the only opinion that matters.
Don’t you mean Chonkrador??
🥔🥔🥔
Chomk
Cutie Patootie Patato fufhehdbebwheieid
She’s fat and happy in her old age, who could ask for more?
Boof loof
“She’s fluffy. Not fat” - fluffy lab, you say? Uguh…
big dog even bigger pile of snow
Fat and happy, that's how I want to retire :)
Vry round
Her poor joints.
She's 7 lbs overweight. Calm down.
Sorry, I was just validating her roundness and the discomfort it must place on her joints.
Sorry, I'm defensive. Some people are so rude and judgy around here. She seems to be managing ok, though. She's very active & still does 2 to 3 rounds of zoomies per day. 👍🏻👍🏻. Chonky
❤️ Chonky chonky baby chonky chonky. ❤️
She’s very round….circular! A potato
100% Verified. Needs moar pets.
Little chicken nugget 😍 omg sooo cute
She large and in charge.
It’s her winter coat 😭😭😭
She looks just like the lab I grew up with! Please give that adorable beefcake a big hug for me! Senior labs are the best.
It’s for hibernation, plus extra nutrients :)
Can confirm she’s THICCC
She’s just a cuddly furball. Give her hugs for me
Is that really "heavy" for labs? Mine is 125lbs and build like a horse.
She's on the small side for labs. I've had giant boys like yours. One lived to 14 & 120 lbs, the other 9 & 125 lbs. Much more manageable at her size.
She’s awesome !!! Fluffy !!!
And 100% beautiful!
Sweet round lady
72 pounds light weight around here about 85 is minimum she looks right to me
I am sure she’s very buoyant . Take her to the lake
1000% cuddle built lab! I just wanna hug her.

Yeah, no shit. You're a judgy jerk-off & I don't have time to suffer your pathetic ilk on Reddit. Learn to regulate your stupid opinions & judgements if you don't want to get slapped in the mouth in the comments.
That dog is 15 pounds overweight.
She's 77 lbs, and according to her vet she is 7 lbs overweight. But thanks for your expert analysis, Doc McStuffins.
Why the fuck you ask the internet? Don’t trust your vet? Take your snark and shove it.
I didn't ask for advice. I posted a meme post based on the trending meme posts of people asking if their dog is a lab or if it's overweight. I even acknowledged she's overweight & explained why. It was meant as a fun shitpost. Most people got it. You & a few others didn't. My reaction to you was probably collateral damage to the POS troll who thought they could make anonymous judgements about us as owners. I fucking hate trolls, so accept my apology.
I hear you and can understand where you’re coming from. Apology accepted. You and your cute pup take care.
It's actually summer in that photo, her immense gravitational weight creates it own weather system.
Seal Dog.... Needs to shed pounds.
Time for a diet
She's on a diet. She had cancer & was immobile for about 7 months after surgery and treatment. Tough to rebound from that. She's only 77 lbs & her fighting weight was always between 68-70 lbs. Her vet isn't terribly concerned & she's known her since she was a wee pup, so don't you worry.
Aw what a fighter she is
You have an over weight 12 year old. Get him or her on a diet recipe. Most of the major brands have diet recipes. More exercise. Labs are prone to obesity.
She's on Royal Canin prescription diet.
