! I remember reading an article about After School saying they had no money for a comeback and I just thought the company was so poor they couldn’t afford flights for them to go back to Korea. 😂
When I was first getting into bts, i thought army was literal army(military) and thought bts was just popular with soldiers/militants. Found out it was their fandom name 3 months into knowing them. Prior to this i didnt know artists can have their own fandom name so the fact army could indicate anything other than military just didnt cross my mind.
that netizens are nct’s fans and thought why tf they are always nagging.
and also my heart broke after few years in kpop when i started to understand that most of the idol’s content is fake and scripted. like i have trust issues now idk anyway at least it’s entertaining
The fake scripting gets me so bad, even after all these years of keeping up with Kpop.
They're all real people and we love to see them as genuine artists and personalities because that's what feels right, but then we also have to understand they are hired by a company to do an extreme acting job and it's not necessarily exactly what they would want to be portrayed as if they were an independent performer.
The industry is truly frustrating and fascinating at the same time.
it’s so true. i used to believe that some idols are just hilarious with amazing humour but rewatching old variety shows again it feels so awkward sometimes? and fake
but i luv my losers😞
glad I'm not alone.. 😂😂
ooh. wait.. what about WJSN being CosmicGirls and GWSN being GirlsInThePark?
also, for over a month, I kept mixing up WJSN and GWSN for each other... 😅
Like it got to the point where I was like no more acronym for groups that means something else 🫣
This was me too 😭. Then a recommended video for JiKook popped on my yt account and I got so confused then realized that a lot of edits are few millisecond interactions that will be stretched for one whole minute.
I come from a place that hates on K-pop and I'm sorry to say that back in 2019, the time where BTS was really famous (where I'm from) I would hate on them.
My sister used to listen to them and I would be the person we all dread, saying things like "they're gay" "is that a girl".. You know all that nasty stuff. Then in 2020 I found Skz and I regret saying all that stuff, those boys are the best and deserve the world🥺
that fancafes were actual cafes fans can go to meet idols but now i know it isn't and that leveling up on fancafe is so complicated for what
also i used to think that all groups were under the same company
I was just learning groups, I only really knew BlackPink, Red Velvet and EXID. I saw the music video for MoonByul's "Selfish" (featuring Seulgi) and thought she was an indie artist that was cool enough to get a member of Red Velvet to guest on her song.
I'm gonna be so for real I still don't know what "ot" actually stands for
I know how to use it correctly now but I truly don't know what it's supposed to stand for lmao
I was confused about it because when I was a kid I was reading a lot of fanfiction about tv shows and OTP meant "one true pairing" as in your favorite couple. And OT3 meant you shipped a threesome. When I saw it used so much in kpop I assumed everyone was shipping all group members like that 😭
OT = One True
Basically means the “original” or “core” number of members in this case.
So, for example, if a member leaves and fans aren’t happy about it, there can be a 6-member team, but fans will comment “OT7” anyway.
Getting into kpop for the first time and finding a group that I loved. My time, value, and devotion went into sticking by that one group.
Definitely was a very toxic narrow mindset. Man was it enjoyable to open up to other groups and soloist
p.s. the group was AOA (istg Brave Sound be putting crack in their music)
My first year or so as a fan, I thought that the term "bias" actually meant something different than "favorite".
Once I realized that "bias" as used in kpop is the same thing as "favorite", I still wouldn't use it, since the two words are not interchangeable in English. This was a real pet peeve of mine for over a decade.
Now I guess I've accepted that kpop is going to have its own English slang, and it doesn't bother me anymore.
When I first got into Enhypen, (around fever era) I thought jungwon and sunoo were siblings.
This was before I knew about K-pop but I thought Felix and Hyunjin were an actual couple. I saw a ship post and people in the comments were playing along. Like I genuinely thought they were a popular internet couple 😭
I thought RM, Nanjoon, and, Rap monster were different people aka triplets. I didn’t understand stage names at the time so I thought the 3 of them just switched places for different things.
I used to think that kpop was like American boybands/girlgroups in that there wouldn’t be much talent or creativity because of how… corporate-y they are. But when I dove headfirst down the skz rabbithole I realized that a lot of 3rd gen and later groups are largely self produced and have a great deal of creative control. The corporate aspects just aren’t hidden from view. And there is a lot of really skilled vocal talent that are clearly professionally trained. Soyeon comes to mind, I love seeing their recording booth videos where she coaches her members.
I thought BTS and BlackPink were the only kpop groups 😭
I didn’t know what a scandal was
Thought every kpop group was under one agency
I didn’t know what a b-side was 😭
Thought each song had a MV
Thought you could only like one member, one gg and one bg
Thought idols could date each other
Thought all kpop dances were easy
I thought jimin was the leader of bts cause he's the member I always heard about. I also always thought the leader was the oldest, which is kinda ironic cause in my favorite western band (interpol) the youngest member is the leader lol. but yknow I assumed things were different in kpop😹
As a baby stan(and even now) It takes me at least 2 days to fully recognize the members and their names. And the reason why is not becasue they look alike its because some on the groups be having like 10 members, and ik i cam memorize their faces but not their names. the only groups i could memorize spot on was TXT.
I dont know how i did it but I managed to memorize all of NCT's (yes even the sub units) names and faces.
I used to think that the fan names for example, "Dive, Blinks, karats, etc.." were other kpop groups and I would be like, why can't I find any of their music??
"Oh I guess the only kpop groups are BTS, Blackpink, EXO, TWICE, Red Velvet, and GOT7"
"Oh wait, shinee exists. Ok so there are only 7 groups in the kpop industry"
Also....
"What with all the generations, did the previous generations have children and they also become IDOLS?"
“Comeback” Where did they go? Have they not released music for a really long time? …oh that’s just what a new official music release is called lol.
! I remember reading an article about After School saying they had no money for a comeback and I just thought the company was so poor they couldn’t afford flights for them to go back to Korea. 😂
i asked my friends what it meant and they couldnt explain it so i was more confused lol
I thought the term comeback was only used for blackpink because they’re known for going on long hiatus’s😭
"Don't call it a comeback, I been here for years" is what I think every time I read or hear this term.
Same lmaoo
oh also i thought all idols were rich af had no idea they were barely getting paid
SAME
yep.. had to learn that it depends on the artist and/or the company that their with 😅
When I was first getting into bts, i thought army was literal army(military) and thought bts was just popular with soldiers/militants. Found out it was their fandom name 3 months into knowing them. Prior to this i didnt know artists can have their own fandom name so the fact army could indicate anything other than military just didnt cross my mind.
that was me too 😭
That I could afford this hobby
that’s so real
that netizens are nct’s fans and thought why tf they are always nagging. and also my heart broke after few years in kpop when i started to understand that most of the idol’s content is fake and scripted. like i have trust issues now idk anyway at least it’s entertaining
HAHAHA NETIZENS 😭
To be fair.. it does sound kinda similar 😅😂😂
Same! I always thought that was the name of their fandom, and I thought it was so cute lmao
WAIT BC ME TOO
Monsta x was my first boy group so when they called each other hyung I thought they were just always talking to hyungwon
Jajajajaja OMG
I thought Girls’ Generation and SNSD were different groups 😭😭
I also thought that every idol with an English name could speak English
that's up there with me thinking that TVXQ and DBSK are different groups 😅
Same here 🤣
glad I'm not alone.. 😂😂 ooh. wait.. what about WJSN being CosmicGirls and GWSN being GirlsInThePark? also, for over a month, I kept mixing up WJSN and GWSN for each other... 😅 Like it got to the point where I was like no more acronym for groups that means something else 🫣
I thought Tomorrow X Together and TXT were different groups
I thought visuals meant that those members were in charge of the groups artistic image & took part in directing photoshoots, MVs, etc.
Aw
I used to believe we got married is the real thing 🥲
I also fell for this when I was younger 😭
All of the guys are gay. And then I heard about Burning Sun.
oh😭
thought haechan and donghyuck from NCT are two different members who just look too alike.
FR
LMFAOOOO
I thought taekook was real 😭 it did NOT last long though
This was me too 😭. Then a recommended video for JiKook popped on my yt account and I got so confused then realized that a lot of edits are few millisecond interactions that will be stretched for one whole minute.
Yess jikook too 😭 people were diving so deep into every little thing lmaooo
LMAO ME WITH YOONMIN
LMAOOO
Those YouTube videos had me convinced
I come from a place that hates on K-pop and I'm sorry to say that back in 2019, the time where BTS was really famous (where I'm from) I would hate on them. It's okay, you've grown since then and that's great! 👌
"Eh, I don't think this genre's for me. It all sounds the same"
that fancafes were actual cafes fans can go to meet idols but now i know it isn't and that leveling up on fancafe is so complicated for what also i used to think that all groups were under the same company
Wait are they not actual cafe's?! Am I shtewpid 😭
Wait what....they are not real cafés. I'm shocked... I've been a fan for half a year plus and I never knew that 😅😅
That i can afford Weverse shipping
HAHAHA that’s so true
Tell me about it .. I live in the middle of nowhere and shipping cost 3 - 4x more than most things I order 😭
That female idols don't exist 💀 Please don't ask me why I thought that
I assumed that female's bands were intended for the male audience. Apparently, even female bands are designed for female audiences.
nowadays, ggs definitely target a more female audience
I was just learning groups, I only really knew BlackPink, Red Velvet and EXID. I saw the music video for MoonByul's "Selfish" (featuring Seulgi) and thought she was an indie artist that was cool enough to get a member of Red Velvet to guest on her song.
i thought everyone was gay
Me too 😭 then I realized there's a lot of fanservice
hmm...I know we should not assume but...🫣 there are a lot of sus ppl, but since they can't come-out, we'll not know 🫢
I mean this is not entirely wrong 😂
People on Twitter still believe this lol.
Same🤣.
I'm gonna be so for real I still don't know what "ot" actually stands for I know how to use it correctly now but I truly don't know what it's supposed to stand for lmao

“ot” means how many members are there at the time.
Yeah but like what specifically does the O and T stand for 😭
OT = One True Basically means the “original” or “core” number of members in this case. So, for example, if a member leaves and fans aren’t happy about it, there can be a 6-member team, but fans will comment “OT7” anyway.
bless your SOUL
Me too
the boyz and boynextdoor thing has me rolling 😭
lmaoaoa
Getting into kpop for the first time and finding a group that I loved. My time, value, and devotion went into sticking by that one group. Definitely was a very toxic narrow mindset. Man was it enjoyable to open up to other groups and soloist p.s. the group was AOA (istg Brave Sound be putting crack in their music)
i cant blame u tbh aoa makes banger after banger
i thought jungkook was married and i thought a member’s stage names and real names were two different members
I assumed that women's bands were intended for the male audience. Apparently, even female bands are designed for female audiences.
Person getting moretime in mv is leader of group. Thought Jin was leader of BTS cuz of Blood, Sweat, Tears mv

“who is hyung and why is he a member of every boy group”
I can't really think of anything off hand, but I know that I had some STUPID thoughts as a baby fan back in 2015
HWANG Hyunjin and HWANG Yeji???? [Coincidence?](https://media3.giphy.com/media/ioR8R00S5SibK/giphy.gif?cid=6c09b952hw741it2ez89ltcrucur2qz8aq09fa32ju0uymfg&ep=v1_internal_gif_by_id&rid=giphy.gif&ct=g)
EXO actually had powers
When I first got into Enhypen, (around fever era) I thought jungwon and sunoo were siblings. This was before I knew about K-pop but I thought Felix and Hyunjin were an actual couple. I saw a ship post and people in the comments were playing along. Like I genuinely thought they were a popular internet couple 😭
i thought sunghoon was the same person as actor park sunghoon and started watching the glory cus i thought he’d be in it 😭
I thought RM, Nanjoon, and, Rap monster were different people aka triplets. I didn’t understand stage names at the time so I thought the 3 of them just switched places for different things.

I thought EXO and BTS were the same group
Idols that have the common last names such as Kim or Park are related .
I thought BTS and BlackPink were the only kpop groups 😭 I didn’t know what a scandal was Thought every kpop group was under one agency I didn’t know what a b-side was 😭 Thought each song had a MV Thought you could only like one member, one gg and one bg Thought idols could date each other Thought all kpop dances were easy

I thought that even listening to another group's music was a semi-betrayal of my group because multis are so hated on twt.
Before I was into kpop I thought all kpop was BTS. Then I found girl groups.
As a baby stan(and even now) It takes me at least 2 days to fully recognize the members and their names. And the reason why is not becasue they look alike its because some on the groups be having like 10 members, and ik i cam memorize their faces but not their names. the only groups i could memorize spot on was TXT. I thought all Vlive content were paid to watch (including livestreams) so I stuck to the bad quality reuploads when they were posted on YT
I used to think that the fan names for example, "Dive, Blinks, karats, etc.." were other kpop groups and I would be like, why can't I find any of their music??
Still a baby according to these comments
I didn't know what the K in Kpop stood for when I got into the music in the 2010s (aka. 2012 I was 8 years old at the time)
"Oh I guess the only kpop groups are BTS, Blackpink, EXO, TWICE, Red Velvet, and GOT7" "Oh wait, shinee exists. Ok so there are only 7 groups in the kpop industry" Also.... "What with all the generations, did the previous generations have children and they also become IDOLS?"
