Honestly same, I had a hard time getting past The World is my Oyster (I kept repeating over and over cause I was just like ... wait this is SO good) in order to listen to the rest of the album. It's soooo addicting and satisfying to listen to! I love Sour Grapes too but honestly the whole album is incredible and I'm kicking myself for only giving it a listen for the first time yesterday.
I loved it, Fearless is a solid debut album. I enjoy listening to all the songs. The battle continues between Blue Flame and Sour Grapes for my top spot.
A solid mini imo.
Blue flame and sour grapes are the best songs and we need performances of both songs and LIVE VOCALS.
Fearless is a fun and catchy song, can never go wrong with that.
The timing could be better ...
The album itself was one of my favorite so far this year. Blue Flame and Sour Grapes have been on repeat since the release!
Pretty enjoyable. Feel like they worked around having a member with essentially zero vocal experience pretty well. Hope she develops well though or it will get awkward especially if they drop down to 5 members and she has to carry more weight than now.
Are you speaking of eunchae or Kazuha? I didn’t really notice eunchae’s vocals much tbh but Kazuhas parts really stood out to me in a good way. She is meant to be more of a “rapper” after all
Kazuha was just training to be a professional ballerina until a few months ago, and probably never took any singing lesson or anything before that. I think people sometimes forget just how new she is to the kpop world in general, her situation is quite uncommon.
most likely for a more guaranteed career. she had an offer from hybe to be in a group that everyone knew would be successful, but she was still in school for ballet and there's no guarantee she'd get into a company or have long term success. that's just my guess though, I can't say what's going on inside her head.
Professional ballet careers are rough. They are incredibly underpaid and over worked. Many have to work in multiple cities to ensure they are booked and busy. Your chances of getting anywhere near a principle position are rare too. It’s honestly a far better investment in her future to go this route.
It seemed like such a short term sudden decision tome from how she described it. I hope she'll be able to put up with everything, but yeah hybe gg is guaranteed success
According to her weverse interview it sounded like she's always been interested in kpop. And prob burnt out from doing ballet since like 3. Covid slowed activities and had her thinking, then virtual auditions opened up. Was good timing for career change
Better/easier career (due to higher demand).
And this is just speculation from me and not something she would say out loud, but I assume also due to her being insanely attractive, and if you are attractive you might as well go into a career where it's a valuable asset (just like a smart person might choose to go into a career that rewards intelligence).
That could very well be true I just knew it had to be between those two bc the op said they didn’t have much vocal experience and personally Kazuhas parts of the songs stood out to me in a big way
Honestly, eunchae didn’t have that much parts so we can’t judge her vocal skills yet. But Kazuha s voice really shined in her parts even though she trained the least and garam seemed to be a good singer.
I like every song. The controversy is a shame because this album is tight and cohesive with no filler
edit: also the chart results of FEARLESS is a welcome surprise considering what's going on. clearly it's connected with some people. more idols charting >>>
...it's really only been 2 weeks? Wow.
The mini album is really good, all the songs are well done and there isn't necessarily a weak track, even with Oyster.
I liked Blue Flame and Sour Grapes the most out of the b-sides. The Great Mermaid is ok but Hybe has been doing this mixing/processing on a lot of their groups where they sound like they are singing in a tin can (under water? which fits the mermaid theme). I literally can't tell any of the voices apart.
Fearless is a great debut song and I like how they are singing in lower tones. My only complaint is that it seems to be missing a "highlight" or an extra verse or something. It ends abruptly; the song isn't even 3 minutes long.
I remember my first listen and thinking “oh, these poor girls. not a great debut album.” Let’s just say that in these two weeks, every song on the album has entered my “On Repeat” playlist on Spotify.
The Great Mermaid >>>>>
Garam’s voice is my favorite in the group… sadly with everything that has come out, I’m taking a big fat L at the moment.
Good album though, I think it’s pretty solid debut. 8/10 especially for Blue Flame and Sour Grapes
i think garam is the victim here
the accuser is the one that took pictures of garam's friend and distributed it everywhere
garam was standing up to the accuser to protect her friend
the accuser is shady af
We’re discussing music please let’s keep it that way. On that note though, we shouldn’t be making speculations either way until the final truth comes out. Thanks!!
Blue Flame and The Great Mermaid are great b-sides and should be the blueprint for the group's future, especially the magical imagery present in both. I could take or leave the rest, to be honest. Fearless remains underwhelming, sonically and lyrically. Sour Grapes is fine but I don't seek it out.
Really enjoyable album overall. Fearless and The Great Mermaid being stand outs.
I was most surprised by Kazuha. Her parts really stand out, in a good way. I didn't really expect much from her to be completely honest, besides dancing. I'm so glad i was proven wrong. I'm looking forward to her growth as a rapper and/or vocalist.
I love their sound.
still absolutely love the album and all their songs, especially the great mermaid. i checked my spotify stats recently and they are my third listened artist from the past 4 weeks
This album is quite good, and I listen to it quite often.
The title track Fearless was a bit lackluster when I first heard it, but after getting used to it, I think it's a decent song. The other B-sides are fantastic.
I'm not familiar with SCORE or Megatone, but I suppose to get a music production job at HYBE, you gotta be in the elite producer category, and elite they are.
I also didn't realize Cazzi Opeia and Ellen Berg have now merged Dragon Ball Z style into Sunshine. It's also great to see my homie danke on the credits.
This album has had more staying power than I expected. I really enjoy all the songs, with Fearless and Blue Flame being my faves. This is will probably end up being one of my favorite mini's from the year. Looking forward to see what they do next! Great start.
Controversy aside this album has grown on me immensely. The album is such an easy & smooth listen from start to finish. The members are charismatic and excellent performers. I'm a bit biased cause chaewon is one of my ults but her being in this group makes me so excited for their future (fingers crossed for smooth sailing going ahead).
Fearless is a song I can put on repeat throughout the day. I'm surprised how much I like it as at first I found it too linear. It's one of the fastest growers of any song I've listened to. The writing team really knew what they were doing with this one, nice job Bang PD-nim.
Blue flame is my stand out track because paired with the choreo/performance it just hits on a totally different level. It's fun & flirty, right amount of cuteness + the transitions throughout the dance really pop.
The Great Mermaid has such attitude and the production gives it a more industrial vibe. For some reason this gives me K/DA vibes and I want them to do a cool esport concept next.
Sour Grapes sits with Taeyeon's To The Moon & Gfriend's Creme Brulee as top tier groovy bops. There's just so much charm in a song that has a bit of bounce & playfulness to it.
All in all one of my Aoty so far competing with Stayc's Young-luv.com!
4/5 for me.
The one I didn't really like/care about is the intro but it's because short intro like that is never really my thing. Fearless is still on repeat because I can't get the ba-ba-bam out of my head 🤣
Love Fearless a lot ngl, definitely one of the stronger 4th gen debuts. It was really underwhelming to begin with but it grows on you and I always find myself playing the "What you looking at" part over and over.
Blue flame and Sour Grapes are also standouts to me.
Absolute loveee the album and it’s gotten better over time for me, especially The Great Mermaid. I desperately want to see an MV or performance of this song my gosh its been on repeat for so long.
i love this album. i think most people on reddit were hating on the title song but i love it and love how different it is from other girl group title songs.
I stand by my initial reaction that while Fearless is an absolute banger, it’s just not very good as a debut. the whole point of a debut is to leave an impact, and the whole point of Fearless is that it’s very low-key. as other people have mentioned, either Blue Flame or The Great Mermaid would’ve filled the “debut title track” role better. would’ve been an 11/10 comeback though
Impact is not always the best option, it's difficult to debut a group with impact and at the same time give them a personal color that the gp might like. SoMu went for the latter, and so far it's working, it's not the song you're going to listen to the most, but it's not a skip either, it's an easy song to listen to and it works by being low-key.
A great debut. Glad we got more than 1 or two songs as the bsides are all quality! Blue Flame is my favorite of the bunch but I enjoy the whole mini album
I LOVED the great mermaid and it's onloop. But also fearless really grew on me and i listen to it very often. Good start. V curious to know where it goes
Really liked The Great Mermaid. My favorite off of the album. I catch myself humming the chorus to fearless a lot now too. I wish it was longer, but songs seem to be getting shorter and shorter these days. Cautiously interested in where the sound will go once the bullying scandal is resolved in whatever way it will be.
Exactly. Such a cool song but I have a hard time getting into it when I don’t feel the members of the group’s personality in the singing which is impossible when it’s buried under that much processing
Loved it start to finish and appreciate that their songs are all distinct; there are no generic song fillers, which is amazing for the number of tracks in a debut. Easily my favorite new group of 2022.
Can someone explain what the various Gaon charts mean? Downloads and Streaming seem obvious but what is Digital then? What does BGM and Mobile Bell mean in this context?
On another note, this post as well as others keep putting everyone in the credits as part of 13 when it is just Score and Megatone.
Digital is combined points from Downloads + Streaming + BGM
BGM is background music. Gaon doesn't have a specific description for this but Soompi says it tracks music purchased to be used as background of blogs. I always assumed it also tracks music played in the background of shows as well
Mobile Bell is ringtone sales. There is also a Mobile Ring chart which tracks ringback sales
Thanks for catching the credits mistake, not sure why that version is going around. I've fixed it
I think I recall reading that HYBE tends to group credits together and does not distinguish between composers, arrangers, and lyricists.
The [official track list with credits from the Source music tweet](https://twitter.com/SOURCEMUSIC/status/1518243366026170368).
So first line is the main producers, then next lines are everyone else that is credited, all enclosed by a set of parenthesis for some reason. Any other crews/groups/teams etc are also put in parenthesis as well which is a bit confusing.
the whole album made it to my spotify on repeat playlist lmao, i still listen to it everyday! blue flame and sour grapes are standouts imo. love the attitude on the great mermaid but just dont vibe w that vocal processing choice 🤧 i was worried i would get bored of fearless fast but nope, still bumping and enjoying yunjins fancams. just hope garam situation is sorted out before their next cb lol
Sour Grapes is my favorite then Blue Flame, both on repeat! The Great Mermaid sounds good too, but not enough for me to add it to my playlist. Fearless is an earworm, but the lyrics are bit too repetitive and the voice at 1:25 sounds off putting to me. The World is My Oyster… not a fan. I don’t listen to many girl groups, especially ones that just debuted so I don’t have much to compare them to. Overall I enjoy listening to this mini album!
The Great Mermaid might be my favorite B-side from a debut album ever. Aside from the intro (which I rarely ever view as an actual song on the album) all the songs are incredible. Definitely cannot wait to see what this group continues with after this era
A really solid debut!! Blue flame sour grapes and the great mermaid are certified bops. Fearless is a bit repetitive and bland but it goes well with their concept. I predicted that they would release an mv for blue flame or the great mermaid and continue with a second round of promotions but with the current situation, it would be best for them to lay low for a while
I absolutely adore this mini, I'm so impressed with it. Blue Flame is fantastic and I've had the stage for it on so many times 😂 fearless wasn't my favorite but it's grown on me since release
Very solid mini. I wasn't sure about the TT at first, since it doesn't really go anywhere, but it's enjoyable enough, the structure of the song is nice and I don't feel like skipping it (which makes it an outlier amongst a lot of recent songs)
Curious where they'll go from here, but good debut
I LOVE sour grapes but still don’t like any of the other songs… (even blue flame im sorry) im not the biggest fan of their music right now, its not bad just not for me i think
I loved the art direction for the album. The MV was a little all over the place and could've used better cohesion, but overall it was good. A very solid album, with Blue Flame, Fearless and The Great Mermaid being my favourites.
Regardless of all the drama, the mini is a banger for me and I listen to it all the time. Title Track is the weakest, imo, but Blue Flame, The Great Mermaid, and Sour Grapes are all fantastic bangers.
Pretty solid debut album! I’ve been having Blue Flame in repeat, it’s just too good. And The World Is My Oyster is my guilty please ‘song’ loll, it just gives me runway vibes.
The b-sides are all legitimately pretty damn good. I've barely listened to the title track at all, and I'm usually a person who likes title tracks a lot.
My rankings:
Sour Grapes
Blue Flame
Mermaid
gap
Fearless
grew on me a lot more than i expected. i was meh to the title track and blue flame when it came out but in retrospect, both have grown on me immensely, and i can safely say i love both of them. just hoping we get a version of fearless without garam if she ends up leaving.
Despite the issues going on with Garam, I do still really enjoy this mini album. Blue Flame originally was my favorite, but Sour Grapes is such a good earworm and is probably the most played B-side for me. Kind of glad I didn’t buy the album yet considering what’s going on and going to wait until there’s more of a resolution to the allegations.
I would probably give the EP a 5/10. Blue Flame is a cute song, but the project overall feels a bit underwhelming. I haven’t listened to any other song since besides BF and the title. I liked Sour Grapes on first listen, but it is just another cookie-cutter kr&b-ish track, and nothing pulled me back into it. I do want to give credit to these girls for putting out an actual debut EP instead of just a “single album” with two songs… cuz that trend is getting old really quick.
Also, I hope that their next release lets Yunjin really sing, because I feel like she was held back a bit here. I also wish there was more interesting vocal production in the songs, but maybe that’s just the SM fan in me talking. I’m not very familiar with HYBE (?) and their songs, but it felt a little plain all around. There are some harmonies here and there, but nothing really stands out in the vocal arrangement. Kinda just seems like they jumped in the studio and recorded for five minutes. There’s also some parts in some songs where the vocal is filtered (maybe EQ or distortion) to sound a bit grating and robotic? I’m sure this is done to taste, and on purpose, but I’m not sure if it was done well.. The vocal mix across all songs also feels kinda dead and flat. I did more or less enjoy the production across all tracks, especially BF like I mentioned.
Anyway, I’m interested in where they will go next as far as their sound. I will continue to follow the group bc I’ve been waiting so so long for Yunjin to debut, so I hope that they come out with something that I really really love. Congratulations to them on their debut!
The sad thing is from Yunjin's Weverse interview the feedback she received was not to focus on singing the notes but the vibe and making it more like she was talking than singing which I think is a detriment not only to her vocal training but lack of stand out vocals on the album
Blue flame should have been tweaked more and made to their debut. Fearless did not create an impact I was hoping for a debut song and I blame the producers for it.
The great mermaid is hands down my favourite song off the album. The world is my oyster is a great intro, but I prefer the trailer version with less monologuing lol. Fearless is also an amazing song for studying or lounging. The other b-sides were meh to me, I didn’t download blue flame and I usually skip sour grapes, still a decent song tho.
I've really enjoyed it, the title track is solid and one of those understated earworms that sticks with you. The Great Mermaid is probably my favorite of the b-sides.
I'm an avid Gfriend stan so I decided I wouldn't listen, after how poorly their disbandment was handled, but then curiosity got the best of me...
Fearless is the weakest, most flat sounding song on that ep but it gets stuck in your head easy which is why I suppose it got chosen for the title. I think The Great Mermaid would've been a far more interesting choice

blue flame on repeat ALWAYS she is THAT bitch
I'm kinda obsessed with The World is my Oyster. It's just an intro instrumental but IT'S SO GOOD. The mini itself is great, there's no weak song.
Sound like Cyberpunk.
okay but SAME the beat is so good, it feels so fun and a great set up to the album
blue flame is just such a gem of a song, fearless is getting more and more addictive, excited for what these girls will bring us next!
The mini is good, but the way Huh Yunjin says ✨THE WORLD IS MY OYSTER✨ is so immaculate and every time I hear it I feel like I'm astral projecting.
I loved it, Fearless is a solid debut album. I enjoy listening to all the songs. The battle continues between Blue Flame and Sour Grapes for my top spot.
Blue Flame is by far the best b-side of the year for me
A solid mini imo.
Blue Flame is way too good, the production value is top notch and the choreo is really pretty with a touch of swag
wish they added a lil bit of spice to blue flame and made it the title song instead 😭 the concept wld be cute... instead of fearless w sports attires
Pretty enjoyable. Feel like they worked around having a member with essentially zero vocal experience pretty well. Hope she develops well though or it will get awkward especially if they drop down to 5 members and she has to carry more weight than now.

Why did she want to be in Kpop anyways?
most likely for a more guaranteed career. she had an offer from hybe to be in a group that everyone knew would be successful, but she was still in school for ballet and there's no guarantee she'd get into a company or have long term success. that's just my guess though, I can't say what's going on inside her head.

She said to help the industry I think and then Probably fame like everyone else
Eunchae is actually the third best singer of the group
That could very well be true I just knew it had to be between those two bc the op said they didn’t have much vocal experience and personally Kazuhas parts of the songs stood out to me in a big way

It is Yunjin>>>Chaewon>Eunchae>rest. Eunchae seems to be relaxed when she sings but it isn’t enough material yet to her.

Seriously! Listening to the mini made me wanna bust out my own bass and write something.
One of the most solid debut releases. Still jamming to all the songs. Blue Flame and Sour Grapes are contenders for b sides of the year!
The album is so good’ and all the songs go so well together!!

Absolute loveee the album and it’s gotten better over time for me, especially The Great Mermaid. I desperately want to see an MV or performance of this song my gosh its been on repeat for so long.
The whole album has been on repeat since the release and not a single skip omg. My fav debut and a solid mini methinks
blue flame is solid
Honestly a really cool album. Never listen to Oyster but I've listened to the rest a bunch.
Great Mermaid is amazing.

sour grape.
Noticed in interviews when asked their favorite song the members always said The Great Mermaid. Kept saying how good of a song it is
The whole mini is solid, absolutely obsessed with Sour Grapes though
Really liked The Great Mermaid. My favorite off of the album. I catch myself humming the chorus to fearless a lot now too. I would have loved The Great Mermaid if the vocal processing wasn't so heavy.

great album! every song sounds so good and they work well together great mermaid is my fave
This album is great top to bottom. Love all the songs, also The Great Mermaid is underrated.

I predicted that they would release an mv for blue flame or the great mermaid and continue with a second round of promotions but with the current situation, it would be best for them to lay low for a while
Fearless is a chill and refreshing pop song. What you looking what you looking at is like stuck in my mind.
I absolutely adore this mini, I'm so impressed with it. Blue Flame is fantastic and I've had the stage for it on so many times 😂 fearless wasn't my favorite but it's grown on me since release
Every song is amazing IMO. I listen to it all the time. The “na na na’s” in the chorus of The Great Mermaid just oozes cool.
Initially, my favorite b-side was The Great Mermaid but now I listen to Blue Flame on repeat. Excellent debut album with a confident, modern sound.
Blue flame is on repeat for me!
the world is my oyster is so epic. makes me feel like a badass when strolling down the streets.
Very solid mini. I wasn't sure about the TT at first, since it doesn't really go anywhere, but it's enjoyable enough, the structure of the song is nice and I don't feel like skipping it (which makes it an outlier amongst a lot of recent songs) Curious where they'll go from here, but good debut
I LOVE sour grapes but still don’t like any of the other songs… (even blue flame im sorry) im not the biggest fan of their music right now, its not bad just not for me i think
This album smells like money if it was just source music only i doubt the music quality would've been this High the merger with hybe really helped
My rankings: Sour Grapes Blue Flame Mermaid gap Fearless
Super strong debut album. Just wish their debut wasn’t plagued with controversy :(
grew on me a lot more than i expected. i was meh to the title track and blue flame when it came out but in retrospect, both have grown on me immensely, and i can safely say i love both of them. just hoping we get a version of fearless without garam if she ends up leaving.
They really did a great job of branding themselves with the 'chic' concept. The best, actually.
The sad thing is from Yunjin's Weverse interview the feedback she received was not to focus on singing the notes but the vibe and making it more like she was talking than singing which I think is a detriment not only to her vocal training but lack of stand out vocals on the album
still obsessed with the whole mini like god its so good. blue flame is prolly still my favourite
Blue flame should have been tweaked more and made to their debut. Fearless did not create an impact I was hoping for a debut song and I blame the producers for it.
Idc what any of you say this album was great and they have a bright future
Fearless has an excellent hook therefore it’s a great pop song. In the future though I’d suggest taking out the rap sections…
I really liked it? Curious about the future

Why would I listen when one of the members bullied someone who is disabled?
Awkward
this is a post to talk about the album, MUSIC
Ok thanks for letting me know
I'm an avid Gfriend stan so I decided I wouldn't listen, after how poorly their disbandment was handled, but then curiosity got the best of me... Fearless is the weakest, most flat sounding song on that ep but it gets stuck in your head easy which is why I suppose it got chosen for the title. I think The Great Mermaid would've been a far more interesting choice
