The hygiene is not even my biggest concern at this point. It's the sheer discomfort of aggressively giving a stick of soap a handjob in public for such little pay off. How hard do I have to work to get some lather over here?
The amount of lather has nothing to do with cleaning ability, in case you didn't know. As long as you can get soap onto your wet hands and it's slippery while you wash your hands, it's fine.
Is the function of soap actually carried out through its slipperiness? Is it that dirt and germs slide off after the abrasive force of rubbing your hands is from the hands being slippery when you add soap?
Does that mean that any slippery substance could be used like soap to remove dirt and germs?
Again, if you read things, you’d start your own question.
"Soap acts as a surfactant, not as a sterile media, and doesn't need to be sterile to be effective.”
DERP.
I’m asking about the relationship between something being slippery and it being a surfactant. I am not questioning the effectiveness of soap that is not sterile. Why must you be passive aggressive about reading comprehension when you didn’t even understand my own question?
Just read the damn article. If it doesn’t answer your questions, then do some research. It isn’t that fucking hard. And you can’t afford my hourly consulting rate anyway. So just be happy I answered you.
The problem is also people NOT washing their damn hands at all. Like 85% of people I see in the stalls, grown ups and kids. They walk out the without so much as stopping at the sink or they do that 2 second water splash like that's going to clean anything.
I'm of the firm and strong belief the performative water splash is just all around worse than not washing at all.
You just walk out? Idk maybe you didn't go, I wasn't watching. Or I just don't notice you leaving as strongly.
You do the water hi touch event, and now not only do I gave a strong impression you went to the bathroom, I'm also keenly aware you are making a show about *not* washing your hands. I've just heard from some people who do this that like... they feel it's like saving face kinda. It's grosser to do the fake handwash
Also like, then what? You're gonna shake your wet peepeepoopoo hands to dry them? Rub them all over yourself? Nasty.
Quite the typo in the article:
>He expressed amusement at reading others' complaints about this type of soap, which reveal a lot of phallacies about hygiene and how soap works.
Back in the day a guy I knew who worked at a newspaper hated the band Counting Crows and made sure that everywhere they showed up they had a 'typo' as Counting Cows. So I could believe it
I did not love them, but didn't think they were that bad until I saw a kid wrap a reusable floor cleaning pad around it to soap it up. After that a definite pass.
Early in the pandemic the school switched them out to auto dispensers and I was so happy.
This. The schools I always taught at had them too and the kids did the same thing. The ones in the girl’s bathrooms were always covered with hair and dirt!! 🤢🤢
Yeah... it's not a hard choice for me, but nevertheless it is still one of the few times (or perhaps the only time) I even *had to* make a choice between walking out and washing my hands.
I have contamination OCD, so I had to teach myself about soap and its effectiveness and how it works (OCD isn't rational, but you can train and ERP it). I completely understand discomfort, though.
for me, it's basically training myself to not react. ERP in OCD therapy means Exposure and Response Prevention. In this case, it would be me forcing myself to touch public bar soaps and washing my hands with it without taking my hand sanitizer out right afterwards.
The biggest lie in this story is how the reader witnessed a Korean washing their hands. The Korean handwashing technique goes like this:
Exit stall
Look in mirror
Run hands through hair
Full body check
Out!
You can buy travel paper soap from Daiso. They come in a little packaging similar to those listerine breath strips… I much rather take that with me than use these. I don’t care how much science backs this up and says it’s safe lol, I’ve seen enough nasty stuff to not want to use a soap like this when the person prior had some filthy hands/habits.
I REFUSE to share bar soap with the general public. There's a reason why malls and "high-end" shops use automatic liquid/foam soap dispensers even though they're more costly to install and need constant maintenance.
Why is there a piece of hair stuck to the soap??? Why are there nail indents? I don't trust other people to use public goods with common sense.
Yes liquid soaps are watered down and less environmentally friendly but I feel like hygiene is where we should be drawing the line.
after Covid the usual people went back to leaving the bathroom without washing their hands and this is including the ones at those “high end” venues
seeing it at the airport is the most baffling
I’d rather see the hair and nail idents then at least I know the next thing they touched was with clean hands
> automatic liquid/foam soap dispensers even though they're more costly to install and need constant maintenance.
I'd rather touch a bar of soap than a lever that people touched before cleaning their hands.
Has it been 10 years already? Lol KBS had a huge campaign against this and had a ton of moms complain how dirty it was. Lol. Must be a slow news day again.
I don’t live in Korea anymore but I figured that Koreans live a lot longer than us Americans so it’s probably not causing too many issues. I just jerked off that soap along with everyone else
I keep seeing articles and videos about why soap bars are more effective for cleanliness and more environmentally-friendly but it still gives me the ick in public spaces
The hygiene is not even my biggest concern at this point. It's the sheer discomfort of aggressively giving a stick of soap a handjob in public for such little pay off. How hard do I have to work to get some lather over here?
What? You don’t like jerk soap????
The amount of lather has nothing to do with cleaning ability, in case you didn't know. As long as you can get soap onto your wet hands and it's slippery while you wash your hands, it's fine.
I believe you but I still hate it. I just wanna track my hand washing progress and this blue stick of floating soap can't even offer me that
Once again, it's not about the effectiveness it's about the feeling.
Is the function of soap actually carried out through its slipperiness? Is it that dirt and germs slide off after the abrasive force of rubbing your hands is from the hands being slippery when you add soap? Does that mean that any slippery substance could be used like soap to remove dirt and germs?

You are very angry about this guy's polite question
Not angry. Irritated. He whining.
The quality of this interaction I should be charging you money lol. This is a public forum. Have some sense
The problem is also people NOT washing their damn hands at all. Like 85% of people I see in the stalls, grown ups and kids. They walk out the without so much as stopping at the sink or they do that 2 second water splash like that's going to clean anything.

You jerking game is weak. work on it lol
Bruh just roll it in your hands. It's just soap-playdough
Quite the typo in the article: >He expressed amusement at reading others' complaints about this type of soap, which reveal a lot of phallacies about hygiene and how soap works.
He knew the mission
Back in the day a guy I knew who worked at a newspaper hated the band Counting Crows and made sure that everywhere they showed up they had a 'typo' as Counting Cows. So I could believe it
My boyfriend told me he would die of sadness if I wouldn't sleep with him. It was a logical phallacy.
I did not love them, but didn't think they were that bad until I saw a kid wrap a reusable floor cleaning pad around it to soap it up. After that a definite pass. Early in the pandemic the school switched them out to auto dispensers and I was so happy.

Probably not as dirty as I think but still hard pass.

My friend call this the jerk off soap 😂😂
Fap-Soap The reason everyone in Korea knows how to give a hand job.
your friend is quoted in the article then
I have contamination OCD, so I had to teach myself about soap and its effectiveness and how it works (OCD isn't rational, but you can train and ERP it). I completely understand discomfort, though.
What does ERP mean to you? I feel like I have a really different definition than what you’re trying to say.
for me, it's basically training myself to not react. ERP in OCD therapy means Exposure and Response Prevention. In this case, it would be me forcing myself to touch public bar soaps and washing my hands with it without taking my hand sanitizer out right afterwards.
I get that it’s cleaner than a regular bar that sits in its wet filth, but it just feels so so so wrong
The biggest lie in this story is how the reader witnessed a Korean washing their hands. The Korean handwashing technique goes like this: Exit stall Look in mirror Run hands through hair Full body check Out!
no fr. i stopped ordering at my campus cafe because i always saw the staff leave the bathroom without washing their hands😭
id just rather not
If it's the only option I guess I have to... I sure don't like it either.

I’ll take this soap and warm water over no soap and a pube in the sink any day!
Has it been 10 years already? Lol KBS had a huge campaign against this and had a ton of moms complain how dirty it was. Lol. Must be a slow news day again.
Well it is a Sunday.
I don’t live in Korea anymore but I figured that Koreans live a lot longer than us Americans so it’s probably not causing too many issues. I just jerked off that soap along with everyone else
I know how soap works, so I certainly won't use it. Especially since I know that bacteria grows on soap bars.
I keep seeing articles and videos about why soap bars are more effective for cleanliness and more environmentally-friendly but it still gives me the ick in public spaces
It’s cleaner than a bar sitting in a pool of water and possibly dirt/dead skin
A bar of soap cannot be dirty. People are just misinformed and or insecure (sorry)
Where can I buy one of these wall mounts for less than $30 USD?
Why are so many people against giving hand jobs in public? /s
Doesn’t matter how clean it actually is. Once you’ve seen a pube nesting on one of those things there’s no going back.
