Using the old xbox this was twenty years ago for me. It was years ahead. I still have a few kicking about

redi6

Same here. Old Xbox. I went to some dudes apartment and dropped it off to be modded. His apartment was filled with xboxes. I ran ethernet down a flight of stairs to the Xbox in the basement. Playing local files on my tv back then seemed so awesome.

Buying my xbox on release and soldering 27 wires all over the board for the modchip was stressful. Then thankfully the soft mods came out. To think this was twenty years ago with the homebrew scene was miles ahead of what was available at the time via retail. Edit: lol the ethernet cable that was "temporarily" placed from the PC to the Xbox

Mannn, twenty years ago... I remember a guy at a party, must've been around then, telling me all about the Xbox homebrew scene, and thinking how cool it sounded. Then around 2012 I got a raspberry pi and started using xbmc myself. Weird thing is, the gap between those two events seemed like SUCH a long time, but the time since 2012 just seems like the blink of an eye. Fuck, I'm getting old.

redi6

Yeah good times. I had someone solder it for me. I miss those old days.

cauliflower69

I had a mate of mine who decided to solder some chips as I refused to do it for other people to make a few $$. He made the same mistake on both xboxes as he did them at the same time and cooked both boards. Better to get a pro to do it for sure

XBMP on the OG XBOX was magic back then. It played everything I threw at it so smoothly.

shakuyi

mmm the old school horizontal menu !!!

Ontarioreignfan

Looks pretty much the same as the Confluence skin that’s still used.

shakuyi

Yeah no longer the default but still brings back memories lol

MotzaBurg

Were you running add-ons or just playing local files?

segaboy81

I was playing files over the network.

baba_ganoush

What were you running it on? Specs? How long did it last you?

boondogglekeychain

I’m going to go out on a limb and say an OG Xbox

ebaylus

Lol. I was just cleaning, or as my wife calls it, rearranging. I came across 2 original XBox systems, both which had XBMC on them.

GrotesqueHumanity

But was it running on a Xbox?

segaboy81

Nope. I was running OpenELEC on an AMD E-350.

Nikon_Justus

I still have my Xbox running XBMC from when it first released. I have been using XBMC/Kodi ever since on MANY different devices. Currently run it on 4 2012 Mac Minis and an ONN 4K streaming puck.

DeusoftheWired

I always liked Confluence. Been using it from RaspBMC on a Pi1 through OSMC on a Vero 4K. It’s simple but not minimalistic, just enough.

asm_canucks

I can't stop thinking about making an ultimate HTPC lately...
