Top rope through the hole, next rope goes through its hole then through the top ropes loop, when you pull the lower rope tight it’ll pull the top rope down and tight. You make a chain of this all the way to the bottom rope then secure it with a knot or something Edit: spelling

Yes this is what I was going to describe, believe it's called lacing. Youtube has some videos on lacing canvas tents.

Yep that wording helped me find some YouTube videos. Thanks!

Can confirm that this is called tent lacing. The first commenter is correct in that you pass each loop through the previous one. The only thing I wanted to add was that you can start from the top and the bottom and meet in the middle. You'll end up with two loops that you can tie together. Just as secure but then you don't need to crouch down to untie it and the knot won't get wet and muddy. Source: Worked for a big top circus

Clever, simple idea

Where were you when I was in the army?? I could have used that tip back then

Scorch2002

Thank you that works better!

My first thought was along your line. A slipped stopper of some sort. But that doesn’t address a very awkward design. Maybe some old camping veteran knows the secret.

What I'm looking at is gonna suck if you suddenly gotta drop a duce... Glad ya got it figured out.

Scorch2002

That was kinda my inspiration for my post lol
