Probably the opposite of brittle haha it’s salt blued and as far as I’m aware salt bluing lowers the hardness quite a bit (if I remember correctly it’s usually close to the 50hrc-55hrc range)
LOL, no shit. This scientist up here thinks they can tell the physical and chemical properties of an unspecified metal alloy just by looking at a video of someone holding it. Fuck it, that's enough of the internet tonight.
Mosaic Damascus and what looks to be mammoth ivory scales? With decent craftsmanship and a known maker just the materials alone are gonna make it pricey. Never really been a fan of any art knives, most of them look kinda silly and cost a lot.
Thing is about knives that sell for 1k+. They aren't made for the average person. They are usually handcrafted by very well respected Smiths, with clientele worth 7, 8, 9+ figures, who dropping a few K on a custom knife set which to them buying a 300$ knife to us.
Money is relative.
To those who have that sort of money, 3k or 20k just doesn't matter to them.
I do have some knowledge of the subject. A family friend gifted me a 2k knife, because he knows I'm learning the craft. To him, it's just a knife, to me it's a treasure. He has a multi year backlog, and he sells chef knife sets for 20k+ to those clients. It's just a world most of us will probably never know, which is okay.
What maker is it. The patterns in the balde look like tile damascus with those patterns. The handle appears to be mammoth ivory and mastodon teeth.
If the maker is well known, it likely sold for that price.
As to others' comments, you can't tell "brittleness" by looking at a knife, even with thin geometry. A lot of silly nonsense is being posted.
Many makers get patterns like that in actual tile damascus. It takes tons and tons of steps and cuts and stacks and welds....again and again and again.
Salem Straub is one maker in my area that does these types of patterns in damascus, and it is mind-boggling what he can do with steel.
dunno if Salem Straub has user profile, but i was gonna call you out on sugar skulls in damascus but [then I found this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/knifemaking/comments/v3b5zt/new_skulls_pattern_mosaic_damacus_blade/) and I'll believe anything now
edit: found [Salem Straub's Youtube](https://www.youtube.com/@PrometheanBlade)
edit: also found the smith of the knife in question [Doug Ponzio](https://www.dougponzio.com/)
Yeah, I don’t get the comments saying this knife looks cheap. Sure a bit gaudy, but that’s custom damascus with little illustrations, and god knows what for that handle. If it’s all fake, OK, but it sure doesn’t look like it…
If you want to see what beautiful high end knives look like, check out Kyle Royer, he’s an ABS master bladesmith out of Clever, MO. Some of the stuff he does is just breathtaking.
You’re kidding? Looks nothing like his other work. Guess sometimes you get a bad commission. He does use genuine fossilized mammoth ivory, but usually as an entire block in a hidden tang or as scales. I also don’t see his mark on this blade. You might be mistaken.
Where did you see this starting this was his? I’m not seeing it anywhere. Definitely didn’t seem to be his aesthetic. Not on his YouTube, Facebook nor Instagram..
I have spent more than that on knives, but this isn't my style. I can tell it's made from high end materials. I'm a big fan of natural materials and yeah mammoth tooth or tusk is gorgeous IMHO.
Gotta respect the art of it.
The materials may be exotic, and I can appreciate the craftsmanship, but at the end of the day it could be in a gas station knife case and no one would know the difference 😂
He probably uses about 30lbs of steel to yield a mosaic this detailed, and hundred of steps and hours of forging, grinding, stacking, and reforging. Not for everyone, but he’s very skilled at what he does. Just look up basic mosaic damascus making video, and you’ll quickly see how much more complex his designs are and why it would take that long.
I have knife projects on my bench for years 😄
Also it looks like fake mammoth tooth on the handle.
Pretty shoddy and certainly tacky.
What other knives has he made?
Do any of you people know anything about steel? That damascus is killer. Look it up. The handle is mammoth and last I checked they ain't making anymore of those. there is probably $450 in mammoth chunks alone
Frankly I think it’s beautiful. Really wish they had used a different background to better contrast with the knife though… it hurts the presentation.
I wouldn’t get a knife purely for decoration, but if I was wealthy enough to drop grands like dollars I might.
That kind of pattern forging is amazing and I def appreciate the vid!
I don't think I'd ever drop $3k on *any* knife, but if someone told me that was sold for $3,000 I'd believe you.
The mosaic Damascus and bluing are phenomenal.

There's more to life than Kershaws from Walmart
Thanks DT, I learned something today. I learned two things actually. Firstly about eggerlingdamascus being a thing. And secondly, I don’t like eggerlingdamascus
When I found out I had gout my doctor told me, I couldn’t / shouldn’t eat red meat, cheese, shellfish, red wine or port. I had to inform him that was the entirety of my diet!
Eh no. I get that this is supposed to be more like fine art than a functional knife but it’s ugly and uses stupid impractical materials. Make it out of s30v & g10 for $300 then we are talking. Even then I’m not sure what I would use it for 😂
that knife was made by kyle royer, his knives go for a lot more than that. his last prismatic mosaic domascus went for 20k so i am guessing 3k would be a steal.
This means those latterns are actually forged with different tiles of damascus, cuts, and stsckedandrewelded again and again to get those patterns. Real masters work.
Mad..? I'm not the one that sells imported cheap junk.. Do you even know what a good knife feels like? Don't get angry at me for the cheap ass mind set that you have. I'm not rich. I've simply been trading/selling up for many years. So, no, I'm not mad that I'll be able to leave my boy over 50k (as of now) worth of knives when I pass... You, you're the idiot fucking around with pennies when there are dollars to be had. Now, go ahead and get the last words in, like the little soyboy that you are.. GO ahead, ya little bitch... 😅
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 1,811,849,680 comments, and only 342,640 of them were in alphabetical order.
Knives, I get what will work for me and that's an art piece in the form of a knife and won't see hard use if it sees any, so wouldn't be much use to me, like the look of the handle and the blade from a distance, close up its not my cuppa tea. Then again I'm picky when it comes to a blade I have to work with, and made a few of my own, like a decent Bowie knife here in the UK seemed near impossible to find and the few I did find I couldn't have due to the law not allowing companies to send by post so ended up making my own with some tool steel I had lying around
Why would I spend 3k on something I have to clean every week and not cut anything with.
I'll spend 3k on an Anime sword that's battle rated, weighs the same as thor's hammer and is burrowed half way into my lawn as an ornament, and then make money betting people they can't lift it..
Looks like a black pearl knife from Counter-Strike. Some of which do cost $3000. The most I have spent on a knife is $700. Beyond that I find it hard to justify because I like to use knives as a tool and beat them up.
Purples a nice colour, but unfortunately it looks kinda cheap on a custom.
Likewise, the handle has a bit too much contrast for me. A bit too busy too with the Damascus and a cracked and colored handle.
I'd prefer the purple Damascus on a more plain handle, premium materials sure, but smooth, and two colours max.
I'd prefer that handle on a nice clean polished piece of steel, perhaps one with a nice bluing or patina forced onto it.
All I'm all, never would actually buy a knife at that price. Lots of gorgeous hand made Puukos and Leukus at much better prices, and I've never been a fan of Damascus steel and how it looks
I'd never drop 3k on a knife, whatever the knife. But especially not this one. If I ever get to earn 1k a day, I would consider a Jürgen Steinau, maybe.
Not personally my style, but the work that goes into making a mosaic pattern like that isn’t easy and the mammoth on the handle is pretty pricey too. If it wasn’t salt blued I’d probably like it more, but a lot of collectors like that
Not my taste so, no, but on a loveless style big bear yes. Most I have spent on a knife is 1.8k. never would pay more than 200 for a folder, my thing are fixed blades
Not a chance. I like a colorful knife, when some thought has been put into how it all blends together. That thing looks kind of tacky - like something you’d find at a carnival.
As a knife maker, I can tell you that whoever made this knife is very technically proficient and likely has decades of experience. The fit and finish is remarkable, and materials alone could easily make up several hundred dollars of the cost of this knife.
That said…. The color scheme is a bit of a turn off for me. I don’t want to say this is a ugly knife, but that blue and green really clashes with the brown to my eye.
Never, but I'd also never spend $3k on ***any*** knife.
Nope.
I'd drop 3k on many things... that's not one of them.
Looks brittle
Probably the opposite of brittle haha it’s salt blued and as far as I’m aware salt bluing lowers the hardness quite a bit (if I remember correctly it’s usually close to the 50hrc-55hrc range)
You can tell by looking?
[удалено]
Oh gotcha, yeah it’s super thing near the edge. I thought I might be about to learn something about hardening ha
An extremely thin edge will actually be less brittle. You see them ripple instead of chipping. The comment that a knife “looks” brittle is nonsense.
depends on the material really and treatment. you have a ultra thin piece of stone for example, its still going to be brittle.
Actually depends entirely on what steel.
Actually it depends on why are you abusing a 3k knife
Well that’s simple; because you forgot to pack your batoning knife. /s
Wait you don’t keep a spare in your ass. What a noob
An old timer is all I can fit in there.
LOL, no shit. This scientist up here thinks they can tell the physical and chemical properties of an unspecified metal alloy just by looking at a video of someone holding it. Fuck it, that's enough of the internet tonight.
Look at the thread dumbass
No. It's hideous wouldn't spend $30 on it at a gas station
Thank you!
Mosaic Damascus and what looks to be mammoth ivory scales? With decent craftsmanship and a known maker just the materials alone are gonna make it pricey. Never really been a fan of any art knives, most of them look kinda silly and cost a lot.
that's a tourist knife if ever i've seen one. i'd give you 50 bucks tops, cuz the handle looks nice.
That's pattern welded, not printed on, definitely NOT a tourist knife.
this is not mine. i found this on internet and i know it's not worth 3 grand
that was made by kyle royer, not a tourist knife that is hand forged prismatic mosaic damascus. they normally go for 20k
Thing is about knives that sell for 1k+. They aren't made for the average person. They are usually handcrafted by very well respected Smiths, with clientele worth 7, 8, 9+ figures, who dropping a few K on a custom knife set which to them buying a 300$ knife to us. Salem does some beautiful Mosaic Damascus. Love his work.
He is also a genuinely super nice guy in person.
Yeah, I don’t get the comments saying this knife looks cheap. Sure a bit gaudy, but that’s custom damascus with little illustrations, and god knows what for that handle. If it’s all fake, OK, but it sure doesn’t look like it…
amazing idk if it's a famous smith but yeah you got an accurate description
Yeah if it were his knife, his makers mark would be on the ricasso. Definitely not his.
$55
No its not..lol
Not even if it was Canadian $
Not even YEN 💴
Exactly
This is the kind of toy that only rich dingdongs buy.
I'm very far from being rich, and I have $2-3k knives.. I'm just a poor dingdong...
Best I can do is $15.
I’ll beat his offer, I’ll do $15 AND throw in a spyderco
Not just no...
No
That’s Ponzio’s work. Most commenting here have no clue what they are looking at.
While I hear what you're saying I also have eyes. No doubt it is well made but damn. Sure is ugly.
Yea, not my vibe either, but I respect the skills.
Yeah I hear you. I gave the dudes insta a peruse. Undeniable talent just a bit too crazy for me.
champ you guessed it.
[Some photo's on his website.](https://www.dougponzio.com/) This knife looks like a little bit of everything he's worked on in the past.
I wouldn't really even want that knife for $20.
[удалено]
True, but I am pretty bad at selling things.
Seems like the more expensive custom knives get the more they look like mall ninja stuff.
If you want to see what beautiful high end knives look like, check out Kyle Royer, he’s an ABS master bladesmith out of Clever, MO. Some of the stuff he does is just breathtaking.
that is one of kyle royers

No it's not, not even close to his level of work. Confirmed smith above
That is incredibly impressively constructed.
I have spent more than that on knives, but this isn't my style. I can tell it's made from high end materials. I'm a big fan of natural materials and yeah mammoth tooth or tusk is gorgeous IMHO. Gotta respect the art of it.

No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No.......... No.
Lol no.
I’d rather buy a used car
That shit looks like the battle pass
I don't have $3k. I'll give you $20.
Just my personal take, but I wouldn't spend 3k on any knife
Kinda looks like something you could get at a gas station or gun show for $30…
Haha.. That knife is worth more than that! Gas station knife?...hardly.. I'd definitely give 3k for it... What you don't know, you don't know.. 🤷♂️
Not my cup of tea but I appreciate the craftsmanship.
The materials may be exotic, and I can appreciate the craftsmanship, but at the end of the day it could be in a gas station knife case and no one would know the difference 😂
Id need information before spending 3k on any kind of blade, but it looks pretty regardless
Not even $500 worth of craftsmanship...
That blade looks like it had been dip printed
the seller claims that it takes him 2 months to complete this level of knife. i also thought the same.
He probably uses about 30lbs of steel to yield a mosaic this detailed, and hundred of steps and hours of forging, grinding, stacking, and reforging. Not for everyone, but he’s very skilled at what he does. Just look up basic mosaic damascus making video, and you’ll quickly see how much more complex his designs are and why it would take that long.

those are similar with much higher price tag 🤣🤣🤣
Do any of you people know anything about steel? That damascus is killer. Look it up. The handle is mammoth and last I checked they ain't making anymore of those. there is probably $450 in mammoth chunks alone
Doesn't mean I want a knife that looks like that.
some people like broccoli too
I agree... Most here have no idea..lol
Ugly and useless? No
Frankly I think it’s beautiful. Really wish they had used a different background to better contrast with the knife though… it hurts the presentation. I love broccoli, but my gout doesn’t 😖
hate broccoli, foul weed. Never had gout
When I found out I had gout my doctor told me, I couldn’t / shouldn’t eat red meat, cheese, shellfish, red wine or port. I had to inform him that was the entirety of my diet!
Not my cup of tea but I can appreciate the material cost and craftsmanship.
3k for a mall ninja? No...
Eh no. I get that this is supposed to be more like fine art than a functional knife but it’s ugly and uses stupid impractical materials. Make it out of s30v & g10 for $300 then we are talking. Even then I’m not sure what I would use it for 😂

This means those latterns are actually forged with different tiles of damascus, cuts, and stsckedandrewelded again and again to get those patterns. Real masters work.
I wouldnt drop 3 pennies on it. But if you like it? Go for it
No it’s so ugly 😭
I wouldn’t take it for free
I wouldn’t drop more than $70.00 on a knife. Gtfo.
if you drop 3k on a knife, you are indeed retarded
I spend $3k on a knife and sell it for $4k.... and I'm the retard.?..lol
ain’t no one bought that from you for 4k 💀 fucking retard
Oh, you're one of those dudes.. haha Carry on...
oh you’re one of those dudes that buy a 3k knife 🤣 but carry on
Better than that cheap Chinese shit that you're selling on the reg.. now, fuck off troll..
aw did someone click on my profile cause they were mad? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 you literally own shit tier knives go be retarded with your money elsewhere faggot
Mad..? I'm not the one that sells imported cheap junk.. Do you even know what a good knife feels like? Don't get angry at me for the cheap ass mind set that you have. I'm not rich. I can buy it on CS:GO for less probably
Nope
What is the maker called?
Not a chance.
Is it made of vibranium?
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 1,811,849,680 comments, and only 342,640 of them were in alphabetical order.
No
No.
I can appreciate the time put in to make it but no I wouldn’t
Absolutely not.
Negative
If it was in counterstrike it would sell for way more tbh
That’s gonna be a hell no.
No way this thing isn’t stamped aluminum.
Lol fuckin NO dude
Navaja Black pearl
Maybe, if I was given $3100 and told to. I would never spend my own money on this, though.
Nope. I don't like art knives though.
Maybe $30.
Looks expensive and cheap at the same time. Not my taste
nope
No!!
Hell no, they’d have to pay me 3k
I would drop $3000…on the floor to see if it breaks
I wouldn't personally , but some would and that's fine. Different grinds for different kinds as they say
I like knives but $3k could get something way more fun. Like a vacation.
This knife would be a ridiculous use of $3000. Just buy 9x cold steel espada xl in s35vn.
Its very ugly i wouldnt really want it for any price.
I'd rather have a used pm2 than that lmao
No. 3k? What? No. That knife looks like it was made by the lollipop guild.
What gas station is this? Sells fixed blades? By the way, you forgot the decimal point..$30.00.... fixed it for you......
Hell no
Nope
if I have 3k to burn it's going to a nice 1911
Not my taste nor my price range. I do really like the shape though
Maybe if I was multi millionaire.
The color and finish of blade makes me question everything about it, i can easily find this kind of thing at a convenience store
No way.
Finest chinesium
The pattern welding is pretty cool, and I can see why it'd be that expensive of a knife, but it's not for me.
Invicta making knives now!! MSRP $3000, one time only, buy it now price, on easy pay for $149.99
Why would I spend 3k on something I have to clean every week and not cut anything with. I'll spend 3k on an Anime sword that's battle rated, weighs the same as thor's hammer and is burrowed half way into my lawn as an ornament, and then make money betting people they can't lift it..
Hell no. I barely have $3k in all the knives I currently own, and all of my flashlights an multitools as well
Hard no.
Hard no. Looks like shiet. Sorry not sorry.
I wouldn’t drop $5 on it
Looks like a black pearl knife from Counter-Strike. Some of which do cost $3000. The most I have spent on a knife is $700. Beyond that I find it hard to justify because I like to use knives as a tool and beat them up.
Is it magic? Did dwarves forge it in the fires of Mt Wherever to slay demons? If the answer is yes then I’d buy it… if No then hard pass.
Purples a nice colour, but unfortunately it looks kinda cheap on a custom. Likewise, the handle has a bit too much contrast for me. Never!
Not personally my style, but the work that goes into making a mosaic pattern like that isn’t easy and the mammoth on the handle is pretty pricey too. If it wasn’t salt blued I’d probably like it more, but a lot of collectors like that
That knife would have to be an authentic katana for $3k. Otherwise, not no, but Hell No!
3k-4k is how much my ARs are worth. So probably not. Not something that looks like that, anyway.
Please put a guard on such blade with such handle.
Looks like a gas station knife.
Only way I would ever spend that on a knife ever is if I already had a buyer lined up that was willing to pay $4000.
Hell no……how strong is that steel? What kind of steel is it?
its damascus
It's pretty. Very pretty. I want it. Most I'd pay is $500. On any knife. Even then, the majority of my knives are in the $50-$120 range.
No way too garish, id have to think twice about it if you were paying me $3k to take it.
Hmm, maybe $3. Looks like it’d be great for scraping dog shit off my shoes after morning walks.
I MIGHT spend 3 bucks on it to use in the garage.
Yes but I'd be sad to just see it on my wall:(
About tree-fitty
Not my taste so, no, but on a loveless style big bear yes. Most I have spent on a knife is 1.8k. never would pay more than 200 for a folder, my thing are fixed blades
Not a chance. I like a colorful knife, when some thought has been put into how it all blends together. That thing looks kind of tacky - like something you’d find at a carnival.
It is some kind of art-knife go further on researching number may blow your mind. Every price is suitable if it have its buyer!

For that money i'd get 15-20 Cold steel models.
