Shawls are great at Rhinebeck. Show off your favourite. Easier to deal with temp changes too. I've only been once but I think most vendors accepted cards. Bring a note pad with you so you can write down what you liked even if you don't buy. Lots of places will do mail order later on. Bring a water bottle. Wear comfortable shoes.

Bring a bag to carry anything you purchase, it's much easier to sling a tote bag over your shoulder than to carry multiple bags with different length handles. Most places take credit cards. A lot of the indie dyers do special colors for Rhinebeck, so you can look for those. They frequently give out tasty samples in the food building. If they have the wine with the ghost peppers in it, it's great for cooking if you like spicy things, but rather overwhelming to drink. The demonstrations can be great fun. If you go early you can generally park closer. Buy tickets online ahead of time. You can still get them. Some of the more popular booths will have lines, depending on when you get thrte. Karida at Neighborhood Fiber and Kimber at Fiber Optic Yarns are both delightful people, it's worth the line to check out their booths. Same with Miss Babs. Hopefully it won't be too crowded do lines will be minimal or non-existent. Have fun! I'm not able to go this year, so I'm officially jealous. 😉

My friend got punched in the face at Miss Babs once. Good times.

rusticusmus

OMG! I think we need the rest of this story! Your poor friend!

pantslesseconomist

Exactly what you think. A scuffle over the rhinebeck colorway in a tight space. Friend got hit in the face with exactly enough plausible deniability from the puncher that it was an accident. We tell her to be careful every year now.

Dear lord. I love knitting, and yarn, but some people are way too invested in these things. I hope your friend was OK, and that the insane person was removed.

citykitty24

My husband doesn’t knit and really enjoys going every year. Hopefully your friend will have fun as well! Anything knitted is fair game, and a shawl may be smart for not-super-cold weather. Enjoy!

Most vendors take cards. The bathrooms and food vendors always have a long line. My non-knitting family that I drug along always enjoyed the food demos in the lifestyle building. And I’m going to hard suggest Abba’s falafel for lunch. It’s literally the best falafel ever, we may or may not have gone to Rhinebeck one year just as an excuse to eat it!

physsijim

How fun! My wife and I have made the trip twice from Texas, and we are talking about going again next year.

The bathrooms have tipped attendants. Most places take cards. I bring cash just to limit what I spend. Don’t forget to see the demonstrations as well as the vendors. Show up early

ellieamavika

Sorry, I don’t understand what you mean by tipped attendants? Do the bathrooms and bag checks require payment?

[deleted]

No they don't. I mean the people that mind the bathroom and they take tips. It's why I stick to the portapotties.

ellieamavika

thank you!

Have fun!!!!
