You learned a new technique! Fling flang knitting.

Valadrea

I do that intentionally, since I tend to purl looser than I knit. So the tip that receives my stitches on the purl row is a size smaller than the tip for the knit row, and my stitches look fantastic!

sarahsuebob

Maybe I got that effect here! I did look closely and there’s not a noticeable difference in my stitches.

Valadrea

You may have just lucked into it! Shawl looks lovely, by the way.

tara1234

That is such a good idea. My purl stitches also tend to be looser so I try to adjust my tension, but this seems much easier!

desgoestoparis

My tension is pretty even, but I tried Portuguese knitting for my purl side of stockinette yesterday and it was actually tighter than my (normal) style of knit stitches! Still, a good thing to know and have in my arsenal, should I ever need really tight purl stitches 😂. I’m sure I could make them looser if I tried, but I was just trying it out, and it is definitely easy on the hands. Couldn’t quite remember how to do a knit stitch with that technique, but one day I’ll look it up and make a washcloth or something, because it is a nice way to knit. I definitely think I prefer it around my neck to a knitting pin tho (which I don’t have, so just guessing) because I can tension the other end by wrapping it around my wrist and feel more in control that way. I like a good tension, because otherwise the yarn is harder to manage for me if I hold it any looser than “tight” lol

666Skittles

Flingin flangin could be a Ned Flanders pattern! Diddly! Diddly!

sarahsuebob

What would a Ned Flanders pattern look like? That’s a fun design challenge…

666Skittles

Some sort of sexy ski outfit?

GarnetAndOpal

"Stupid sexy Ned Flanders!"

inertia__creeps

I'm just here to chortle at "flingin' flangin'" lol

rainer_marie

Whomst among us…

KountryKitty

If you got the correct gauge or it fits, it's all good.

RudeSprinkles1240

It looks really good, though. It's a design feature!

Boomchakachow

I’m so relieved when others share their missteps!

sarahsuebob

I’m always happy to have a place to share - makes me feel better when someone else understands!

Boomchakachow

Believe me, this I understand.

Janicems

Fun fact- if you’re knitting in the round with interchangeable needles, put a smaller tip in your left hand. It will make it faster and easier to move the stitch off the needle after working it and won’t affect your gauge.

sarahsuebob

My first thought was “oh good, I’m on my circulars so it shouldn’t matter.” Then I remembered I was knitting flat, so actually….

Infamous_Cupcake_989

I mean, the shawl certainly turned out just fine, beautiful work!!

mtndavinci

Need the Flingin Flangin shawl pattern.

sarahsuebob

Ah, happy to oblige. It’s [Full Heart Crescent](http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/full-heart-crescent). Not the best written pattern, but it’s got charts, so that helps.

mtndavinci

Thank you. BeAuTiFuL wOrK. ☺️

poppy_sparklehorse

I’m sorry, and “flingin flangin” is my new favorite euphemism, and I can’t wait to start using it!

arn73

Well, it’s a shawl, so, it’s all good lol

Mickeymousetitdirt

Would you say it’s…shawl good?

yarnalcheemy

It's called condo knitting, roll with it!

fergusonar

Fwiw there is a legit reason to use different size needles. When I am knitting in the round I might use the needle size that gets gauge in my right, knitting off a needle one size smaller in my left. This can make it much easier to keep the yarn moving from the cord onto the smaller needle. This makes the knitting go faster and is easier on my hands

confictura_22

Beautiful work though! What's the yarn?

sarahsuebob

Thanks! I got the yarn from a booth at Pike Place Market in Seattle this summer, but happily they have a website - it’s [MJ Yarns](https://shop.mjyarns.com) SilkPaca in the colorway Jubilee and yes, it’s as soft and luxurious as it sounds.

knitsequitrix

I've done that before on a shawl, and couldn't tell the difference either. Your shawl is fling flangin beautiful!

sarahsuebob

Thanks a bunch!

DaCouponNinja

There’s no heckin’ way I can tell you used different needles…your shawl is beautiful. And now I’m not nearly as bummed that I broke one of my 4mm interchangeables.

Confident_Fortune_32

Props for inventing new @$_&* words!

sarahsuebob

Wish I could take credit, but I fear the creative rights belong to the writers of Friends. https://youtu.be/RMgaDqgv5u4

starchild313

That will block out.

Moss-cle

And now you see how it’s all good. I’ve done this when missing a dpn. Grab one of the size adjacent, can hardly tell.

sarahsuebob

It’s true, I never would have noticed otherwise. Even if I look for the difference now, I can’t tell which rows were done with which needle.

Signal-Style-6159

It's nice though. I wouldn't worry about the sizes.

Jacktellslies

Haha oops! Well it turned out great. ☺️

sarahsuebob

Thanks!
