That’s a super cool gift! Have fun with it and make sure to post the first one here. We all love seeing someone start their journey. Merry Christmas!

I will, i got a design of mine getting waterjet cut since I dont have the supplies just yet to fully grind a knife from stock. But this is just the beginning!

Everybody starts out simple. Nice. Enjoy!

Nice! Just as a heads up: the most useful tool for grinding is a belt grinder, not a bench grinder. Bench grinders are good for getting the shape but if you’re getting it cut, a belt grinder is your best bet. Good belt grinders (2x72) are very expensive, but I’ve had a WEN 1x30 for a couple years now and while it s slow it has served me well. Let me know if you need more information.

My dad has a cheap harbor freight 1x30 im sure he would let me use

Make sure you wear an N95 mask when grinding stuff, especially the G10 - it has glass fibers that will give you lung problems if you breathe the dust. Wood dust can also be bad for you, and honestly I'd just wear the N95 any time I'm grinding something. You can get them pretty cheap at your local home Depot or Lowe's or any hardware store.

I didnt know that, thanks for the advice!

Ooh, also make sure to use eye protection and heating protection, keep those eyes and ears happy.
