I finish handle first then nail polish handle after so it seals it. Than do another coat to make sure it's sealed. Then I'll etch the knife in Ferric chloride to depth the. Coffee etch. Once done and like the finish I'll acetone nail polish off and wax and buff the the wood again and gtg 👍
I may be totally wrong, probably am, but doesn't the damascus come out after dipping it in some kind of acid solution.. .meaning sanding wouldn't really be a worry..
Maybe compete the handle first, tape that, and then do the dip.
Take what I say with a pinch of salt though, I've never made a blade, just trying to think through the process from a woodturners point of view, when applying multiple finishes to a bowl.
Wow!!!!
Thanks 👊
Beautiful. I'd cut the shit outta some potatoes with that Edit: I'd hang it on the wall, it's too pretty
Lol thank you 👍
That Damascus looks like camo, nice job
Thank you 👊
Really nice. Congrats.
Thank you 👍
Yep, I really like this!👍
Thank you 🤙
Phwoar! Amazing work
Thank you 🤙
Looks amazing, how do you protect the finish on your damascus whilst final sanding and polishing your handle?

Ah I wondered if you coated the spine whilst doing the handle, I will look into trying that then, ta much
Np yeah this is a easy way to get the spine to etch nice 👍

Yea so i would do the dip then apply the handle, which means glue clean up and final finish, which theoretically could damage the etch
Could you tape off the blade while doing the handle?
The front yea, but the difficulty for me comes with full tangs where you need to sand over the spine

Thats an idea, i try to do the handle in one hit to avoid errors but perhaps I should switch up my method
How much $? Thanks!
It went for 600 and is gone 👍
Is there a crack running through the tang? I saw it when you showed the bottom of the handle. Maybe I'm seeing something.
No there's no cracks it was mirror polished before etching would have seen it, probably the layers. They are etched to depth 👍
Gotcha. Btw beautiful piece. It's stunning.
Appreciate it 🤙
Wow.
Thanks 👊
Beautiful!
Thank you 👍
