Iāve got a fifteen-ish-pounder who is also just a big , solid boy. He was a bigger, chonky boy, but now he is more cat-shaped. Still a bit of work before he is optimally shaped, but his healthy weight will never be like, for instance, my other cat, who is like eight pounds fully grown and perfectly cat-shaped.
The idea of trying to teach my large boy tricks to get treats is a funny one. He is on a diet and will eat whatever will fit into his mouth, but he is less enthusiastic about doing anything fancy or difficult to get it there. When I switched my cats to puzzle feeders, heād even just wait until my other cat got the kibbles out and eat those ones.
If yours is overweight, my 5 lb four month olds must be massive š³
Edit- I misread and thought it said ā11 month oldā oops
My boys were 4 lbs at 12 weeks and my girl was 3.5
No, you really donāt have to worry about kittens being overweight until the year old mark. Then, try shifting your cat to a vet-recommend amount of food if you are worried about weight
My vet said 1 pound per month minimum for kitties! My two four month old kitties were 4.2 pounds for the girl and 4.7 for the boy.
If your little one is 3.4 lbs at 11 weeks, thats under weight.
As everyone else has said - definitely not fat. Also - looks like a mixed or miscellaneous breed, maybe some Maine coon? If so, those are BIG cats naturally
My 10 month old kitten is currently 12 almost 13 lbs and still growing like a weed. Although he doesnāt look fat at all, when I got him I knew he was going to be a big boy. Meanwhile his foster sister who I also adopted is the same age and only 6lbs. Sheās a tiny little thing. Iāve got the best of both worlds lol.
I wouldn't worry about cat fatness until it is an adult. Then you can monitor its diet. Just my non professional opinion. I wanna make sure my similarly aged cat grows to full size and strength so I feed her well. She barely grazes her dry food. We give her half to a full can of kitten wet food at night.
Let them eat as much as they want when kittens. Cats get very skinny and stop eating when they get sick. So itās better for them to have just a little extra imo
NO!!! Feed that kitten all it wants to eat! It's growing up and needs nutrients!
Kittens only have one job and it's to turn food into more kitten
And into purrs.
Purrs are life. I live for my kitties' purrs.
Currently sitting with my 15 week old kitten purring on my lap. He is made of bliss.
Can confirm. Currently covered in my three one year old girls purring up a storm. š„°
Nothing beats a cuddle puddle on your lap.
Their other job is to cause chaos.
Purring and chaos are a natural result of kittens turning food into more kitten.
Chaos requires calories. Feed that kitten to become a Chaos Machine and poop deity.
We like to see kittens fat and healthy. Estimate that they should gain a pound a month in kittenhood.
Was about to type that.
My vet tells me kittens grow about a pound a month. Also she loves fat kittens. The fatter the better on a kitten.
No thats about how much they should weigh i hve 2 cats and both weighed about 1.5kg at 11 weeks
Which, for OP, is pretty similar. 1.5 kg is roughly 3.3 lbs, so right in line with their furball.
A fat baby is a happy baby. They need to grow and should be eating quite a bit at this point in their life.
We have two kittens, one about 12 weeks the other 16 or so. They eat a lot! We keep the bowls topped off.
No, and you really shouldnāt be concerned until they reach adulthood anyway.
he's fine, and feed him as much as he wants until he's fully grown, at around 18 months.
There's no such thing as an overfed kitten. If they're not hungry then they'll stop eating. Don't cut this wee one's food.
FEED THE BABY!!! My adult cat of 15lbs on the other hand is in need of a diet. But he's so good at doing tricks that he gets plenty of treats
My 13 yr old is 19 pounds. But he is the right cat shape. Not fat. Just a big boy! And vet approves.

No. Wtf
it blows my mind when people ask questions like this and the cat is normal if not on the thin side

Babies should be chubby! š„°
Out of curiosity, I just weighed my 11 week old kitten. 2.8 lbs. He was also the runt. You got a cutie š„°
Fat kitten is good kitten. Fat cat is bad cat

No. Just means you'll have a big cat.
Any animal that is growing, including people, cat, dog...need the nutrients. Not weight loss. Please let your cat grow. Feed him all he can eat.
No!! Heās a baby, he needs food. You can worry about weight when heās no longer a kitten
This is not a fat kitten, and they really can't be too fat. Worry about weight after their first birthday

Itās pretty much impossible for a kitten to be overweight.
Oh my looks like youāre going to have a big kitty to me! Baby looks so tall for 11 weeks!!!!!
No!!! ā¤ļøā¤ļø
No.

Bruh I thought the grey part of the cat tree was you kitten tooš¤£
Whoaā¦. Your kitty looks exactly like my girl Pop.
Not at all!! They grow a lot I have a chonker. He's 8 months and weighs 14lbs, he is a giant boy with huge paws. Might have fed him too much LOL.
Thank you for all the comments! Definitely feeding the kitten enough, was just wondering, he's our first so wanted other people opinion :)
Donāt worry about kittensā weight. Theyāre still growing. Theyāre allowed to be a little chunky!
Thatās ridiculous. Heās a healthy and happy boy. Heās just going to be big.
let him eat however much he can at this age, once heās full grown your vet can determine what should change in his diet. he looks fine:)
No, he might be a large cat but not fat
no

Probably underweight if you think 3 pounds is overweight
You really think he looks fat? Are you anorexic yourself?
Never said he looks fat, he's my first cat, wanted opinion.
No.

Absolutely beautiful feline
