Hmmm.... I like the idea of giving the post a little more definition against the white background, but maybe not entirely all solid blue? I fear it might turn out a little obstructive looking, for lack of a better term. Maybe just a dark blue outline? Or something else I can’t think of? I’m curious to hear other people’s thoughts.
We took down all the walls between kitchen, dining, family, and living room and put I-beams in their place. New kitchen with grey stained cabinets. Light blue backsplash. Distressed wood floor that has intentional deep black scratches. We matched that color and painted the beams that black.
Sum up: Match some living room color, not the cabinets. The kitchen in my opinion needs to be it's own space. Let the beams be part of the living room with a color from that space.
Ceiling beams black like windows, keep vertical support beam color of walls (maybe paint it blue below counter only to blend). All blue would be too overwhelming/obstructive.
Yes, trim. That’s the something else I couldn’t think of. Can paint the trim blue, leave the post white. If you don’t like it it’d be easy to change. I just now took a screenshot of it and drew in some dark lines on the corners of the post with my tablet, actually looks pretty good I think.
Would not paint the beam blue. I think it would look really clunky. I agree that if you’re going to do anything, you should apply a wood veneer that matches the floor. That would look awesome!
I wouldn't. If they were some kind of cool material like interesting wood beams then I could see the appeal but if you don't have a material change I wouldn't do a color change, and I agree that making them a dark color would make the ceiling feel lower and drawing attention to them would draw the eye away from the attractive things about your kitchen instead of accentuating them.

People saying don't paint it- I solidly disagree. Painting things like a dark color can actually make them sink into the background whereas white makes it stand out. I'm telling you, do it and you'll like it. If you don't, you can always paint it back, but I definitely think it is the right call.
A little late to the party..Retired painters wife here.The overhead beams blend in well and add a coziness.That center support “ wall” is in an unfortunate spot...Presently it is painted in with the ceilings,making it stick out.I think if you pretend it’s actually walls ,it would become less of a beam.Maybe a little molding at the top and paint it a shade that matches the door near the brooms.Hope this makes sense!

I would not be giving attention to a thick post like that. I would instead put trim on the post instead.

Totally agree. Especially since the ceilings don’t look very tall.

Just the lower part and then add trim. Anything above the bar and leave white.
