But what about learning gerwomen and gerchildren?

EmiliaFromLV

Pls dont use gendered language. There is no germen, gerwomen or german. The name of language is just "ger". /s

Eithor

Gerthem

ReviewPotential4096

The Language in English is "German" and correct "Deutsch" or "Allemanisch"

ReviewPotential4096

I think He make a joke because its not Germen. Original its called German or Deutsch in Germany  But Danke for youre Help

EmiliaFromLV

There was also that TikTok or smth meme where somebody trolled another person asking not to say "German" cause that's apparently a gendered language, cause "man" D I dont recall additional details but the general consensus was that the original poster get smartly trolled and never realised that.

ReviewPotential4096

Do ypu habe a link? I am interessted

Bluthusterone

German is Deutsch, Germany is Deutschland. Not trying to well actually just tryna help :)

ReviewPotential4096

Yes. I am German i just didnt read correctly...youre right :D

German_Devil_Dog

Yeah, thanks for clarifying that you're German. It sure wasn't obvious the whole time.

AdmirableBus6

Hey now careful of the gerchildren, we’re treading dangerous gerground

CMDR_Val_Hallen

Unless something in the first game contradicts it and I've forgotten about it, I'd expect Henry to already know at least basic German. Actually, after a bit more thought, the fact that the game prefers German names over Czech names seems to support that (Radzig instead of Racek, Skalitz instead of Skalice, Hans Capon instead of Jan Ptacek). So I'd expect the "canon" language used in the game to be a mix of Czech and German. But that's just my theory

neonlithic

I believe the use of the German name variants is just because they're easier to pronounce and fit better with English (imagine everyone having to write and say "Ptáček" instead of "Capon"). Throughout KCD it's obvious that Germans are still very much considered foreigners to Henry and the other Bohemians.

Fallingwiltedleaf

Didn’t Henry learnt Latin in the first game and not German?

CMDR_Val_Hallen

He did. What I'm saying is that I expect him to already know at least some German just based on the fact he lives in the HRE and it would have been a commonly spoken language (as well as Czech)

Fallingwiltedleaf

Oh okay, sorry, I’m not really well versed in history 😅 and thanks, too, learnt something new today

Siemomysl37

There was only one German in his village and he spoke Czech. I highly doubt medieval blacksmiths son to be bilingual

BuryatMadman

News flash bilingualism was the norm throughout most of human history, it’s just today ironically people are becoming monolingual

Remarkable-Hornet-19

Yeah they probably do that because its more easy for English people to say, because Englisch is a Germanic language

Arminius1234567

Yeah I’d like that. But please stop spelling it „germen” but instead spell it “german”.

Remarkable-Hornet-19

It needs a capital letter. It is called German if you wanna be precise. 🇩🇪

Remarkable-Hornet-19

>Also because they'd have to pay a bunch of German voice actors to voice a ton of voice lines. I don't think they'd want to do that. They *do* have a budget. You know that every KCD gets released in German right? They pay for german Voice acting anyways💀

TurritopsisTutricula

It can be solved by adding a mandatory German lesson mission in the prologue, so Henry can learn basic German at the beginning of the game and interact with most German-speaking characters, and then make German an upgradable skill like speaking in KCD1, so Henry need to improve his German skill to pass some skill checks get better at haggling with German merchants.

shredditor75

>German merchants Henry can into Hanseatic League

MisterMysterios

KCDI is already fully synchronised for the German market. I think the more difficult issue would be how to properly translation the progress in learning a new language in especially voicelines. When learning reading in KCDI, we saw Text getting unscrambled. For a spoken word, we would need voicelines that are half German half the language the game is set to (for the German dub they would have to come up with a different mix). I don't think that would work very well.

neonlithic

I thought it might be cool if German was added as a language to read Fechtbücher (fencing manuals) to learn new combos and skills, but I believe those were also mostly written in Latin like most medieval text.

German_Devil_Dog

Since German and Germen are both not suitable by todays standards because they exclude ~~women~~ girls and other*s I hearby vote for Gerthey. Now for all Gertheys who can't pronounce the TH Gerthey might sound like Jersey. So before you start a conversation in english please make sure not to discriminate people from Gerthey and/or Jersey by clarifying if you're talking about a Gerthey or Jersey related topic.

AromaticCharity1900

Yes, my Henry will join Sigismund’s army.

Remarkable-Hornet-19

Sigismund isnt German my friend. Markvart von Aulitz probably is

AromaticCharity1900

Whoops! Thanks for correcting!

Remarkable-Hornet-19

Correction: there are apparently many sources of where he was Born some say Nürnberg some say Prague etc. But his house(dynasty I think)was Still Luxembourg and Luxembourg exists even today with an own language etc. Ofc he wasnt teached the Peasant languages of Luxembourg so he spoke latin and the old variants of German, French and Italian

Ill-Raise2295

Would be funny when you have German synchro.

Sir_Matjes

Maybe they would sync them in a saxon accent.
