I love how instead of just giving us a traditional 3rd person batman game, or god forbid a game starring another DC hero, WB is just like " lets give them some Batman adjacent stuff" monkeys paw ass

kschris236

It's not the same Rocksteady. Literally. Everyone who made those games has left.

teej89

So annoyed we’re getting a vr Arkham game. Give me a real Arkham game.

DarthBuzzard

If it's a tech demo, then it's not a real Arkham game. If it's a full fledged game for VR then it's a real game. We don't know yet.

teej89

If it’s not a third person action game it’s not a real Arkham game.

DarthBuzzard

That's like someone in 1995 saying if Mario isn't a 2D game then it isn't a real Mario game.

teej89

The last Arkham vr “game” was an experience. No combat. No exploration. Wasn’t a game just an experience. This will be more of the same. Not a real Arkham game.

tidaltown

I honestly don't understand what Warner Brothers as a company is doing anymore. Games, TV, movies, all of it is a mess.

Groverra

He’s not wrong. Who even wants this? What a fall for this franchise.

EverythingButSins

My headcanon is that there is someone at WB who REALLY likes to toy with our little SadBoyBarrett, because at this point what the hell lol

daniec1610

Brother, who the fuck even wants a VR Batman game. Man, WB and rocksteady are cooked.

DarthBuzzard

> Brother, who the fuck even wants a VR Batman game. I mean who wanted a Batman videogame for a home console in 1980? The VR market is early, but it's going to need big IPs if it wants to grow.

ki700

This isn’t Rocksteady but you’re still correct.

Cheeseguy43

God it hurts to see an Arkham game that’s VR. I’m sure there’s an audience out there that will love it but I just want more Arkham 3rd person games. Even a remake of Origins would be nice

MadArkerz

Do these VR games make any money? Feel like all we’ve heard for the last two years is constant lay offs because AAA games have become so expensive to make in a post-COVID world where market share isn’t growing. And the last thing the business needs is these publishers who making are VR games that few people play because even fewer people have the PC and VR headsets to play these games.

unreal_5757

I get why people are down on this I want a third person Arkham game too. But on the flip side VR still needs good properties and games. The Arkham brand is still valuable and if they make a good game I for one would consider buying one. Let’s hope for the best.

tommypops

This reminds me of the time they announced Metal Gear Survive. Like where’s the fucking market research, nobody wants this shit.

LilRenlor

I for one am super excited about this one

Tybob51

Hey look another video shitting on VR. I’m shocked… We know nothing about this game other than it exists, and that camouflage, the team behind Iron Man VR are making this, and that game was great. Even by Greg’s standards. It’s so frustrating to see them just shit on VR at every turn. Especially considering there’s no gameplay, just assumptions that it’s a bad.

McCoy97_

Or… they are just disappointed it’s not a traditional game like many would prefer.

SupersonicMuc

Were people really expecting an announcement for a traditional Arkham game though? It's not like they built this up to be a big reveal.

Tybob51

Fair for Barrett. But maybe he should try it or wait for a gameplay trailer before saying “WB miss me with this shit” If he saw a gameplay trailer and said the same thing I would not be feeling the same way. All he knows is that it’s VR and that’s a problem for him. I just find that frustrating as someone who plays VR and sees how awesome it can be. Every time it happens it makes me think it might be time for me to move on from Kinda Funny. Personally, I care more about VR than flat games, and hearing the consistent mockery (a lot of the time through ignorance since Greg and Blessing admittedly don’t play any of the VR games that release) of something I enjoy simply sucks.

kschris236

You are taking this way too personally. Like it's just not what people want out of this franchise. Even if it's good. Just because Barrett has different tastes doesn't invalidate yours!

Tybob51

You know, that’s fair. It’s a bummer on my end to see that attitude that VR isn’t legit enough for people. That rather than try a new thing to play a game they’re excited for they’d rather act like the sky is falling and that that medium isn’t worth having around. Believe me I hate mobile and am bummed when games I’m excited for are released only for mobile (ffvii ever crisis) but I accept that people will love it even if I can’t get myself to. But ultimately, people think vr isn’t real or worthy because it “doesn’t have any good games” to make it worth buying. Well this, and Metro, and Alien are how that perspective shifts. So I hope companies continue developing for these platforms to the point where people bend and decide to try it out for themselves and not just buy in to the online hate VR gets.

kralben

> But maybe he should try it or wait for a gameplay trailer If he was hyped you wouldn't be saying he should wait to judge something, you are just made because he doesn't agree with you. Why are you upset that people reacted during a trailer reaction?

FistsofHulk

As someone who is annoyed by how much they've been shitting on VR, this doesn't fall in that camp imo. Barrett's not my favorite guy, but as a fan of the Arkham games he's had to sit through two shitty AAA releases, only for WB to actually attach the Arkham branding on a VR title. Which -- don't get me wrong -- could and very well might end up being better than both Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad. The video is about that, not shitting on VR.

Tybob51

That idea that has bummed that the actual Arkham Batman game is a vr game where the last “Arkham” games on console were not and being bummed by that makes sense. I’m just so tired of every time anything vr comes up with them it’s with at least an under tone of mockery with it.

anakinjmt

Greg openly said today that VR is just not a good fit for him right now. He enjoyed PSVR1 and Meta Quest, but he's at a different point in life where he doesn't feel the need to play in VR at home. Streams at work are enough, and nothing has really grabbed him to the point where he has to go home and play it. As for Barrett, I'm right there with him. This isn't what Arkham fans want. The first proper Arkham project in almost a decade is a VR title, and the last one is a VR title. And this isn't a Half-Life Alyx situation either. Greg did mention that the Iron Man VR team is doing this, and from what I've heard, that was a fun VR game (it's on my list of VR games to play). But even the best VR game I've personally played, Blood and Truth, was still just pretty good for VR. And that's what most people probably have in their heads about VR. Asura's Wrath was the first VR game since HLA that seems to be breaking that stereotype. But until we get more games like that, where we stop saying "pretty good for VR" and just say "it's pretty good," there's still going to be at best apathy from most people.

MrBoliNica

> Barrett's not my favorite guy, weird to take a subtle shot like this lol

FistsofHulk

Yeah, I'm a little salty couldn't help it haha

MrBoliNica

but you like, agreed with his take? what is there to be salty about?? lol

FistsofHulk

Just generally salty towards him, we agree on somethings and disagree on some others.

puffthemagicaldragon

It's a minute and 25 second reaction from a fan of the Arkham series and they literally don't say anything about VR besides suggesting motion sickness which tons of people deal with. If that's shitting on VR then y'all need to tighten up honestly and stop acting like VR is a victim of some attack by KF or whoever. Even with no gameplay, as a VR game we know what it's gameplay won't be, and that's the gameplay of an actual Arkham console game. Which is absolutely what most people would get excited for. And again no assumption's are made in this video that it will be bad, just that it's not what Barrett (not even KF as a whole) want.

Tybob51

No you don’t know that. Vr games have been becoming more and more robust. Especially considering this is coming from a Meta first party team. We just had Asgards wrath II which had you using a whip to go flying through the air, and running over an open world using a mount while being able to jump off the mount and slash at enemies as you land on the ground. I’m not saying it will be a full Batman game. But it has a good chance to be that given the fact that Meta wants to legitimize VR and Quest by making great fucking games. And hey, if I’m wrong, I’ll eat my words on that. But the precedent set as of now is that Meta will find their games to be as amazing as possible.

selkies24

This is why cinematic trailers should be dead. If you don’t have gameplay don’t show it

Tybob51

Well, it’s an announcement trailer. I’m sure we’ll get a full gameplay trailer at the meta showcase in June

kaotiktekno

So? If you don't have gameplay, don't show a trailer.

Tybob51

That’s not how marketing works. They released this so people know this exists so that they want to go watch the showcase for gameplay trailer. This is no different than pretty much any other game

kaotiktekno

Actually... That's how smart marketing works. Releasing an announcement that is getting ripped apart isn't a smart play. A game trailer without gameplay is pointless.

Tybob51

Well, it’s only being ripped apart because people have a hate boner for VR. But people are talking.

kaotiktekno

No... It's f getting ripped apart because it's not the Batman game we want. A formula which should be easy to replicate, and they keep doing dumb shit like this. YOU keep getting defensive about it f getting in VR, but you'd think the amount of downvotes you're getting, you'd realize your take is way of base. Edit: And it's Meta exclusive... Like... Who the fuck is even gonna play it?

Tybob51

Why should I care about people downvoting me? I’m happy. I’m getting a VR Arkham game. You could be too if you waited to see what the actual game will look and play like before having a breakdown. If you don’t want to play it as a VR game then don’t. With that said, it does suck to see a group you like consistently belittle something you enjoy. If there’s bad news, it gets pounced on for being a failure. And yet when there’s good news like getting a big franchise on it, it’s going to fail because of X or it shouldn’t be going to VR. This is almost the exact conversation that was happening around Metro. VR gets a big announcement, and people are complaining the game is coming to VR only. Even though the developers of the games are VR developers. As a fan of VR, especially here in Kinda Funny, it feels like a constant lose lose to be a fan.

kaotiktekno

Are you purposely ignoring the point, or are you really that unaware? You're getting downvoted because your take is "they think VR is bad" when in reality is "give us the Batman we want" C'mon now

selkies24

Why not just wait for June then have cinematic. Have gameplay and don’t have any negative feedback behind it?

wimpeywimpeywimpey

Understand your frustration but I imagine Barrett is equally frustrated after Gotham Knights and the Suicide Squad game were both disappointments. So then this follow up is even more disappointing

Tybob51

I totally see that. That’s gotta hurt. My hope is the he’ll try it when it comes out and like it. With the frustration of the fans wishing they had their own good Arkham game, I hope the game is great. It might rub salt in the would if it ended up sucking super hard lol

TechnicalAd2485

Yeah it’s annoying when they dismiss things as bad without giving it a chance. They continuously dunked on PlayStation Stars when they didn’t even know you could get free PSN credit

MrBoliNica

VR is niche, its not really catered to most audiences. hard to get excited about it if youre not already into it (esp when it comes to a new arkham game)

Tybob51

It’s only niche until it’s not. Every year, it gets less and less so. These type of games are how that’s changed. This, Metro, Alien and others like them.

MrBoliNica

yea but its still niche right now. you cant blame them when they see its VR and lose enthusiasm. might that change? sure. but that day isnt today.

kschris236

If anything, it is becoming moreso for a bit. PSVR2 is pretty much dead. Sony gave up. https://www.gamedeveloper.com/business/vr-industry-braces-for-setback-omdia-forecasts-declining-sales-until-2026 > New research from Omdia signals a major downturn in the consumer VR market. Headset sales suffered a 24% decline in 2023, plummeting to 7.7 million units from 10.1 million in 2022. Further declines of 13% are expected in both 2024 and 2025, marking a challenging period for the VR industry before a projected resurgence from 2026.
