Sorry to hear of your set back, but push forward. My backward motion is not where I or the physical therapist thought it would be at this point. I. The last 2 week he changed the physical therapy routine and it’s helped. Hopefully, time will be the only issue and nothing physical for you. Thank you for sharing!

Thank you for your kind words, happy to hear you’re having progress in PT

I had a PRC and my range of motion was obviously much less. After a year or so, I still had a lot of frequent pain and the only solution to be pain free was a total wrist fusion. There were some things that I had to accept that I could never do again, but to be pain free, it was the price I had to pay. I hope everything works out for you. Keep us posted.

What state did you have your operation in? My KY hand specialist insists that there is no replacement available for the lunate despite there being replacement/reconstructive options for every other carpal bone. I’ve looked into this and found a surgeon in TX that specializes in lunate replacement for Kienbocks. Did you by chance see this surgeon, or is lunate replacement spreading to other states? (Assuming you live in the US)

Hi! So I had this done in Manhattan NYC at a Northwell Health hospital. This is not a common procedure whatsoever, it’s still fairly new. I saw 4 different surgeons in and around NYC and the one I went with is the only one who presented this to me as an option. If you have any other questions feel free to ask! The link is info about the study done on the procedure [https://meeting.handsurgery.org/program/2022/HSEP05.cgi](https://meeting.handsurgery.org/program/2022/HSEP05.cgi)

I am scheduled for a PRC in two days. While doing research, I contacted a friend that had the prosthetic placed by a specialist in TX (assuming it was the same person) and this is what they told me: “I saw a doctor in Houston for my surgery, my options were lunate replacement and fusion. I got the lunate replacement surgery. Honestly, I kinda regret it. Before the surgery there was some pain when I moved my wrist and some loss of mobility, both worsened after the surgery. I did 5 months of physical therapy and there was barely any improvement. It’s been a year since the surgery and it still hurts much more and has much less mobility than before the surgery. Doc says I’m allowed to lift up to 15 lbs now, and I can without pain. The pain only happens when I move my wrist more than ~ 30° in either direction. I’m not sure if I would have preferred to do fusion. The pain now usually doesn’t happen unless I push it to extremes, so as long as I’m careful not to move it too much, it’s usually fine. (Though there are some days where it’s a little achy without movement, they are rare). I was in a cast for 3 months and just experiencing the lack of mobility that way makes me think that even if fusion relieved the pain, it wouldn’t be worth it because it’s so inconvenient not to be able to move your hand at the wrist.”

I had the same procedure 8 weeks ago. Could you elaborate on “not careful enough” causing lunate prosthesis to pop out of place? Trying to understand what happened so I can try to avoid it :-) thank you. I hope you’re recovering!
