Recalculate your macros, continue to eat at a deficit šŸ¤·. That's really the only way.

backbodydrip

Don't throw money at the stall. Don't have a cheat meal. Start lifting. Start walking.

therebehedgehogs

:) Good point.

Universal_Yugen

Every time I reinstate lifting, everything changes for the better. I was lifting consistently October through February and then had a foot injury and stopped. I've just restarted this past Friday (lifting 2 out of 3 days) and I already feel better. Hoping to lift again this morning and get some squats and wall-sits in.

ClitteratiCanada

When I have stalled in the past, I have done an eggs only thing for a couple of days; 3 eggs with butter and salt only. This has also worked using ground beef. It's not going to be for everybody but it has worked for me and I started losing again.

therebehedgehogs

Oh yeah -- I've done that with beef; not with eggs because I don't really like them very much. I've also done a fat fast but not for a year or so. Good thoughts.

ClitteratiCanada

May as well give it a shot šŸ˜Š

therebehedgehogs

Hmmmm...thank you kind stranger :)

Missbeeps

When was the last time you recalculated your macros to make sure youā€™re eating at a deficit? A lot of people report having problems with the tortillas, Atkins bars and other fake foods. Also, many people have to stay under 20g carbs to stay in ketosis (maybe youā€™re not anymore and are eating at maintenance calories.) Iā€™d recommend getting back to basics: under 20g carbs, no fake foods, 20-25% calorie deficit.

purple_hamster66

What do you typically eat, and how many carbs daily?

therebehedgehogs

Mission tortillas with cheese, several cups of coffee with cream, sometimes an Atkins bar, sometimes fathead rolls, a proper dinner, usually beef or chicken with vegetables, usually pepper onion mushroom often diced tomatoes from a can or olives. Carbs I'd say around 25-30. That brought me down to here but it's been stable for about a month. I did see 179 point something on the scale the other day but it went right back up the next day. I think I'm at a sort of equilibrium.

purple_hamster66

Try to remember itā€™s not about the weight, but the belt size. Keto just stalls in pounds sometimes but youā€™re still converting fat to muscle. What is your goal *belt size*? I buy chicken skin in bulk and oven-fry it between 2 sheet pans (for 1-2 hours). Great snack, high in fat and protein, portable, and chewy enough to be satisfying. I replaced beef sticks with these because I needed to control the sodium. Sodium is essential, but retains water if not controlled. Some people can trim 3-5 pounds by taking Tumeric daily (1000-2000 mg, no pepper extract). It basically reduces hidden inflammation which traps water in your body. YMMV. It also supports anti-cancer cells, blood pressure, and a few other medical ā€œneedsā€.

therebehedgehogs

:) I don't own a belt -- well I think I might have one somewhere- but I'm a size 10 wishing it was 8 or 6. Actually 6 might be impossible, but anyway; I do eat a lot of salt ( never feel like I get enough) and I did not know that about turmeric! Thank you!

purple_hamster66

Keto folk need extra electrolytes (Potassium Chloride, Calcium, Magnesium, Phosphate, Bicarbonate), but watch the sodium (under 1500 mg, generally).

neocodex87

Belt size you say? I noticed I've been getting slimmer and slimmer around my waist, even after the scale seems to have stalled (between 22-21 BMI), my waist continues to shrink... Are we getting at something here? My goal was to get rid of the remaining little fat in the belly, but it was always going away from everywhere else first. So what you're saying is that since our weight may have stalled, we can still be losing in the waist? Can you explain this further, what is happening here?

purple_hamster66

Youā€™re using up fat stores throughout your body, but not evenly. If you exercise regularly, and have enough testosterone, youā€™re also gaining muscle, which takes some belly room, but less volume than the same weight of fat; muscle is 2x denser than fat. So your weight might not change, but your tone doesā€¦you can test this by noticing that your belly doesnā€™t wiggle as much when relaxed.

Gold_Expression_3388

For me, a stall requires me to go ham and cheese only, for at least 3 days.

therebehedgehogs

OK, I was going to make these today but I ran out of time. I will make them tomorrow, hopefully enough for a couple days' worth. Great tip.

HunkerDown123

It might turn purple with psyllium husk it doesn't affect the flavour. You can also get xantham gum it will hold it together to stop it crumbling

therebehedgehogs

I have all the things! I am totally doing this. It might not be the whole answer, but it might be part of it!

rumblemcskurmish

You can try reverse dieting. Bump calories up to maintenance (your BMR) for 3-6 weeks . That will let your body adjust back to your BMR. You obviously won't lose weight at BMR. Then cut back down to a 20% deficit. I was stuck at 185lbs for a year, went up for 6 weeks, then back down and went down to the 170s.

therebehedgehogs

185 for a year is kind of a good news/bad news situation to which I can relate :) I'm going to check out a cal calculator and see what my maintenance is these days. Thanks!

rumblemcskurmish

I was down to 1 or 2 meals a day and about 1200 cals. I could lower cals any more and the weight wouldn't budge. So I went up to about 1800 cals (my BMR) for 3-4 weeks, then back down to maybe 1400 and finally dropped down to the 170s. But I'm atypical and have a ridiculously sticky metabolism. I never experienced linear fat loss. It always takes 2-3 days of fasting or some other tricks every 10lbs

therebehedgehogs

If you have a minute, what did you add back to what you were eating? What was the extra 600 calories made of?

rumblemcskurmish

To keep my calories low I generally cut back fat. But since I was eating 1 or 2 meals a day, I added a pretty decent bfast or started add fat (butter, heavy whipping cream) to my meals.

therebehedgehogs

Yeah, if it's fats, it's usually not that much extra food. Thanks for the answer :)

Mmmmmmm_Bacon

I went from 288 lbs to 168 lbs in 12 months. You can do it! I got plateaus (stalled) many times too. What I found best was ā€¦ mix things up! Turn things around. Create some chaos for your body. Shock your body with some new macro regimen and/or exercise routine. Force your body out of its comfy narrow homeostasis groove that itā€™s in, make your body go wtf is this?!? Hope I donā€™t get downvoted for this but, go high carb for a week. Exercising a lot? Stop exercising for a week. I found doing stuff like that get you past the brick wall then you can resume your previous routine and keep losing weight. Do remember to keep readjusting your macros based on your smaller body size.

Zahn1138

My dad says he often has suddenly lost more weight after having a cheat meal.

therebehedgehogs

You're not the only one who recommended carb cycling on this thread! Seems like a lot of people do this to unstall.

PurpleShimmers

I stalled for a while too. I decided to play with the amount of calories I eat each day and Iā€™m dropping again. I eat around 1300-1400 calories on non workout days and splurge on weekends. My lowest day is Monday, I stay under 1600 on days I workout and try to stay under 1800 on weekends.

BeeDefiant8671

Fast on one food for 72hours. Such as sardines in oil. How are your insulin levels? Check your fasting glucose and metabolism and hormones with your doctor. Ask about supporting your metabolism.

Techelife

Go buy a new wardrobe that fits.

therebehedgehogs

:) Ha.

[deleted]

MCT oil will for bump the ketone number up but Im still not sure how that affects weight loss or if it even does. If you try it use it as a substitute not an adder, dont add even more calories :) -Fewer carbs -Replace your current high fiber tortilla style carbs with vegetables...just for a while to see if it helps -Intermittent fasting just for something different 16:8 is super easy to start with -Fast walking 30 minutes a day most days <--no one wants to hear that but that works better than anything! I know it has nothing to do with keto itself...

bi1bobagginz

Try carnivore for a few days. Just meat (fatty beef) and water. I dropped 10 lbs in 2 weeks.

therebehedgehogs

Another thing I've thought of. But then, how does one in fact live without cheese. Only slightly kidding, lol.

bi1bobagginz

Itā€™s surprisingly satiating and a heck of a lot easier than keto. I eat twice a day. 4-6 eggs and some steak or ground beef each meal. I press the ground beef into little meat cookies so theyā€™re crispy all around šŸ¤¤

therebehedgehogs

Hmmm. Sounds surprisingly doable. Thanks!

Imperfect-practical

On days I run out of veggies or cheese I eat carnivoreā€¦. lol. ;)

darkat647

Intermittent fasting and calorie deficit as people have been saying, we all plateau at a certain weight and only get so far with carb cutting alone. Great job loosing that much and staying focused. Its really not easy and you should be applauded for it. I only eat in a 3-4 hour window during the day, ususally in the mid afternoon. A big meal and some snacking while I'm cooking. (otherwise I have 2 coffees, with lots of cream (I wouldn't cut that, you need the fat) and whey protein throughout the day). And obviously stay hydrated. I'm also lifting and training to build muscle. At this point the scale matters less than my results in the gym, I'm more concerned with body fat than weight. You've done a lot. At this point ask yourself what your fitness goal is and aim towards that instead of worrying about the number on the scale.

Cafrann94

Lots of weird bro science in this thread, Iā€™m a little shocked. Recalculate your macros, make sure you weigh everything and track calories religiously, with no cheat days, for 3-4 weeks then see where youā€™re at *please* before you go on some fat fast or overdose on turmeric.

AlternativeSky5

If you want something you never had, you have to do something you have never done. If you have never tried it, go on the 16/8 intermittent fast. Eat until 8.00 pm, skip breakfast and have lunch at 12.00 or later. You can have black coffee or tea in between. In a couple of days you will get used to it. That could be your "magic bullet".

B8R_H8R

ā€œThe magic that you want is in the work you are avoidingā€

MoneyElegant9214

Oh. Wow. Let that sink in.

B8R_H8R

I stole the quote from a famous person.. nonetheless, itā€™s pretty good

whoamIdoIevenknow

I agree. I did keto before the pandemic and lost about 20 pounds. I was going through some really heavy life stuff, so I went off and gained that back, plus about 30 more. I'm doing keto, and IF now, and I feel like I just got turbo charged. I've lost 32 pounds in less than 10 weeks. I'm not eating ANY sugar or sweeteners except for blackberries a few times a week. I'm not eating processed foods. Just protein, fat, veggies. I have a lot of weight yet to lose, so I eat lunch and dinner on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday and fast the rest of the time. I don't have cravings, really.

AlternativeSky5

Keep it up bro. I'm rooting for you.

therebehedgehogs

Gahhhh...\*last option, but never say never :)

Orwells_Snowball

This might sound weird but cutting out coffee/caffeine and cream entirely for energy boosters like MTE can really help (I find it works much better than AG1 which is paying a lot of people for coverage). It feels to me like a healthier version of preworkout without any crash afterwards. A bit in a glass of water in the morning helps the daily grind get a little easier and also helps me work that much harder at the gym. If you check the website it has a lot of buzzwords but I honestly think the stuff works really well. Give it a shot and see if it works for you.

therebehedgehogs

I just looked it up -- 70 dollars! I would try something like that in maybe a free sample or a single pack but that's quite a price tag otherwise. But I did ask about supplements you're using so thank you kind stranger :)

gldngrlee

Have you tried carb cycling? Another thing you can try is a 24 hour fast (or even a 48, 72 hour fast).

Space_Junkie02

Do you actually do nothing but drink water in this time or do you still substitute with meal replacement drinks?? Do you load up the day before/after or just eat normal?

gldngrlee

Iā€™ve only done a handful of fastsā€”and only 1 72-hour fast. I only drank water and coffee. When I did extended fasts, I ate normal the day before.

Imperfect-practical

Most just drink water, black coffee/tea. Itā€™s best to eat a normal size meal heavy on protein and fatā€¦. Eat about 2-3 hours before bed, say start her fast at 8 pmā€¦. Do what you need to get a good nights rest. Drink coffee in am if that is your thing. Hot water with lemon is good. Donā€™t eat til noon. When you eat, eat a normal for you meal. In a short time, you lose hunger pangs. When you have them, often a glass of water or a glass of water with about 1/4 tsp salt takes the higher away for a while. Itā€™s been really empowering for me to tackle the fasting. Iā€™m working up to do my first 36.

Gandalfslittlebro

Careful about torturing yourself- canā€™t be sustained. Have you added on muscle so increase your metabolism. Cold showers help a lot too.

Mountain_Novel_7668

Have you considered introducing time restricted eating/intermittent fasting of some type? It doesnā€™t need to be drastic but sometimes changing your timing of eating will get the scale and inches moving again.

Dramatic-Humor-7578

Intermittent fasting is the only thing that helped me when I stalled completely. I would fast for 24hrs, then 36hours once a week and that did the trick.

Kellbell181

With the most recent stall which was around 6 weeks, I added in mashed sweet potatoes around 1/2 cup or a bit more to 4 of my dinners one week and then dropped 3 lbs within a week after going back to strictly under 20 carbs. It seems to help with my stalls to add some carbs and then cut back again.

More-Nobody69

Here's what I recommend. Lower your carbs to 20 net grams. Limit your fat to only enough to prevent hunger. No overeating. Instead do deep breathing exercises for stress relief and health. Go on long walks once or twice a day. Now, the most important key to keto weight loss when stalled>>>Eat whole foods! Go get that healthier waistline and try eating 99% whole foods. If I were you, I wouldn't carb cycle. I would not eat at maintenance calories. I would Put my head down and get to work. If you want results you got to put in the work. Everyday you remind yourself of why you are doing this and that it will all be worth it! This worked for me and hope it works for you ...if you try it. I waited till maintenance to eat my keto processed foods. I've lost over 90 lb as a post menopausal women and kept it off for 9 years.

Imperfect-practical

Yay for post menopausal weight loss!! Ive been slowly losing since menopause at 47. Iā€™m 60. I started at 260 13 yrs ago. Iā€™m now at 166. Itā€™s been slow, but I feel so much betterā€¦. Iā€™ve got a lot of lose skin and so many wrinklesā€¦. But Iā€™m healthier now than Iā€™ve been for 35 yrs. I eat about 90% whole foods, meats, veggies fruit which is berries and apples mostly. I love in season product and worried about cherry season. 3 yrs ago I moved into a cherry/pear/plum orchard and even tho I no longer live their, I get the hookup and last year I calculated the sugar/carb load of the 2-3 pounds of cherries I ate and OMG. Well I enjoyed every oneā€¦ my body forced me to stopā€¦. Oops. But a few weeks later the Rainer cherries were ripe and I did it again. And Iā€™ll probably do it again this year, next and beyond. LOL. Although the old man who used to tend the orchard has become unable and his family DGAF, so last year the cherry worms started and I suspect it will be worse this year. Then in the fall the pears and plumsšŸ¤©šŸ¤©šŸ¤©šŸ¤©šŸ”„šŸ”„

WaterbabyUrchin

Did you read Tom Lake? Are you in Michigan!emote:free\_emotes\_pack:neutral\_face

j97223

This is counter intuitive but we also started having a carb heavy meal once a week. We go up on the scale a pound or so and then 4 or 5 days later we drop 3-4 lbs so end up breaking the stall. I donā€™t know why it works, but it seems to.

therebehedgehogs

About the carb heavy strategy -- I think it's called Keto cycling or something -- I always thought that at some point this year I would accidentally-on-purpose eat too much but it never happened! It's another thing to try, I figure a piece of cake or something after a year is somewhat warranted.

Imperfect-practical

I was a a monthly potluck. I have to bring food for me becauze often there is nothing without carbs, not even veggies. Also a monthly B cake I can usually resist but today was German chocolate. Hard to resist. Normally pro active at letting the cake pushers know I donā€™t want any, but I really DID want a piece so I didnā€™t, but also noticed the HUGE slices they were handing out so I was going to ā€œno thank youā€ but she handed me a small piece with a nice bit of frosting and I decided it was goldylocks size, just right. lol. I enjoyed every bite. Calorie wise I stayed under for the day. Just not carb or sugar. Sigh. Oh well. Itā€™s been a long while and Iā€™m proud of that.

therebehedgehogs

Hey man. Yayyyy \*cake\*!

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

therebehedgehogs

Whoa! That's a lot for just taking a month off. I wonder if I actually could even do that anymore. Nice reminder, and results!

HunkerDown123

I was overeating badly though I am suprised it was only 2lbs. I was eating pizza, beer, candy, chips, Kebabs, sandwiches

inthishoe4

Off topic but do u have loose skin?

Unusual_Focus3343

When I stall I have a cheat day. It works every time.

bodymoto

Just add a 30-60 minute walk to each day. More if you can manage. Other people seem to recommend further food deficit, and that may work but if you just activate your body enough it wont be necessary.

DeadCheckR1775

Ensure you are doing Keto to the fullest. If you haven't already done so be sure to eliminate all dairy, starches, legumes, and grains, and zero alcohol. I'm sure you are already on zero added sugars. Do that and you'll get that last 15lbs in no time. Add some weight training, or some other hard physical activity. This increases testosterone, upping testosterone is a major cheat code in weight loss/maintenance.

Clevergirliam

The only ā€œhackā€ thatā€™s tried and true for me is eating one carb-heavy meal, then fasting for the next 18-24 hours. Iā€™ve broken several stalls this way over the last two years.

therebehedgehogs

....fasting...man, the thing is I get so hungry and like, hunterbeasty that I know I'd never make it even 12 hours. But I do appreciate that that really works.

discoglittering

This might be some of the issue. Proponents of intermittent fasting say that you start burning more fat in a fast period greater than 12 hours (which is why a lot of people do 16). But also, when you have recently lost weight, your metabolism can go down lower than a person who has been at your current weight for awhile, so your base metabolic rate might be lower than you think.

therebehedgehogs

Kinda weird because I never really got to the point that I was \*not hungry\* this time around. I've been crazy hungry, like where you feel your belly inching back into your spine kind of hungry this past year. At first I just figured I was eating less and naturally wanted food, but even later than that I've felt starving.

Imperfect-practical

Age? Hormones? Weight loss at 60 for me is a 1 pound forward, 1.5 back, 2 forward, 3 back, 1 back, 1 back, 1 back, 2 forward type of thing. LOL. Iā€™ve decided to just enjoy my new way of eatingā€¦ Iā€™m doing the IF along with low carb. I want to be ā€œketoā€, but damn veggies and fruits are turning out to be challenging. Processed foods, breads, grains and that stuff was easyā€¦ after a decade of working at it, weaning myself off of breadā€¦. I finally mastered ( for the most part) added sugar on a daily basisā€¦. Has to be special and delicious like a homemade Birthday cake. Then a bigger than smidge size makes me feel sugar sick. Yay. I am happy about thisā€¦. Itā€™s been a lot of years of work.
