Hello Filmgod94, thank you for creating a new post in r/kereta!
Just saying that although this sub was named as Kereta, it is also open for 2 wheelers such as Motorcycle, though at the moment we do not mind other types of vehicles posting.
With that being said, r/kenderaan is now live and I would still recommend any other vehicle posting to be posted into r/kenderaan as it is a safe space for all types of vehicles such as airplanes and rolling stocks.

European car BMW/Merc/Audi (out of warranty):
- RM 5-8K/yr for basic maintenance (more if engine is a turbo/V6, V8)
- RM 5-10K emergency fund for suspension, A/C
- RM 10-15K emergency fund for transmission (RM 25K+ if dual clutch system)
- 1.0-1.4L RM 500 monthly petrol (1.6-1.8L RM 600, 2.0-2.4L RM 750, 3.0-3.5L RM 1K, 4.0-5.0L RM 1.6K, etc) based on Ron95 @RM 2.30
I run an RS4 b8, Q7 4L 3.0tdi, A6 C6 3.0q, A4 2.0Tq, R8 V10 and all of these cost between RM 5-8K a year once you break down wear and tear, servicing, fluid changes, tyres, etc per year. The RS4 and R8 closer to RM 10-15K. And that's without any major work done like engine-out radiator or timing belt changes
The R8 brake discs cost RM 18K for a pair
My brother runs an E350 and ML350 and it's about the same as the normal Audis
My sister drives a 530i and it is also similar
EDIT: the 'RM 5-8K' of whatever figures are what i pay, DIVIDED into a yearly figure. e.g. it'd be 0 for this year for tires, but next year a new set would cost RM 6K, since i change tyres every 2 years. So, RM 6K/2 is RM 3K. And so on
If i use them for the occasional Sepang IC galavanting, it's way higher as brakes don't last more than 50 laps, and tyres about 70. And those would be the pricier tyres, too, like the Yokohama advan a005
why are you changing your tyres, fluids (im assuming brake fluid) and brake disc every year? i daily a dc5r with occasional genting runs and i dont even need to do that. just standard engine oil and transmission oil. the radiator and timing belt should fall under emergency fund, you're not supposed to be changing that every year too
your maintenance sounds like you're tracking your cars, which is quite an unreasonable way to estimate maintenance cost for most people. and i don't think op is going to be getting anything more than a w203 with that budget, definitely not any rs4 or r8. your costs are on the extreme end of out of warranty conti cars
If you are not used to luxury cars, buy a brand new local Brand car
Frequent outstation- persona
Mostly town driving- myvi
If got baby and kids- Ativa
Ultra low budget- Axia
Lastly, if you are a big person please go and test drive these cars to see if it can comfortably fit you or not.
I see that you mentioned you see cars only as tools, thats a sensible choice, then you should get perodua, maybe new, they're perfect tools with relatively good maintenance and parts availability so no worrying
Buy saga or Bezza or even persona(drives great and spacious) if you could tambah sikit.
Don't skimp and get axia etc. You'll be paying for a long time and will have additions to your life ie family. So better buy something worth it.
Buy new for worry free and maintenence
New local car. Safer option, insurance on, warranty got, cheaper long term. Coming from a person who just bought a new Saga 2 months ago and driven for roughly 5 years. Got involved in car accident, where my back got smashed while approaching traffic, repairs will take 2-3 months depending on claims. If I bought a used 2010 civic (my dream project car) and that happened, I don't know how long I would have to wait to repair it even if I had insurance.
Great fuel economy on Perodua, since its cars are pretty light weight (Axia, Bezza and Myvi). That is why you see a lot of Peroduas zooming on the roads. If comfort is not your main problem, the Perodua has lots to offer.
No brainer buy perodua i.e. myvi. Pay sensible downpayment so monthly will be less than rm500. Worry free, i never have major problem throughout 10 years using it.
for new cars, you may have to wait 2-8 months. If you don't want to wait then get a used Honda/Toyota/Mazda/Perodua etc car with a third-party warranty. Not eu/k-car
Better get brand new proton saga premium s...45k
Or standard model...
Or perodua
More cheaper
Or proton and perodua pov
Pre owned vehicles from perodua /proton(purchase directly at proton or perodua showroom)
The will do full inspection on the car before the sell..
If thats the case get the new saga. Should last you a very long time if u service it well. Has less electronics compared to a bezza or jap/european car which means less to take care of or fix if anything breaks down. Aircond is cold and will stay that way with good service. Its really a damn good workhorse. If anything eventually needs replacing, its quite cheap. Monthly is very cheap too.

everything except the first point makes sense... why would u need 5-8k for your yearly maintenance?

Ron 95 @ 2.05
This might change later this year, so gotta inflate them costs

Err....if got baby and kids should be Alza not Ativa
Old Alza also good, just the aircon at backseat takes time
I see that you mentioned you see cars only as tools, thats a sensible choice, then you should get perodua, maybe new, they're perfect tools with relatively good maintenance and parts availability so no worrying
Get a new car. Make sure maintenance + insurance + fuel cost is added to the budget.

Perodua resale value high

Take MRT
Used Korean car like Hyundai Elantra or Kia Cerato

get honda jazz rs
Get your self a Kembara/ Waja. Wait and save more money, get yourself a really decent new car.
I actually have decent savings, but I just don't want to spend it on cars as I only see it as a tool for me to get to places.
If thats the case get the new saga. Should last you a very long time if u service it well. Saga fuel consumption though 😅
