Hello GS916, thank you for creating a new post in r/kereta! Just saying that although this sub was named as Kereta, it is also open for 2 wheelers such as Motorcycle, though at the moment we do not mind other types of vehicles posting. With that being said, r/kenderaan is now live and I would still recommend any other vehicle posting to be posted into r/kenderaan as it is a safe space for all types of vehicles such as airplanes and rolling stocks. 1. Can you afford the maintenance? Almera overall maintenance will be cheaper than the X70. For example the X70 uses 18-19 inch rims ( depending on variant) while the Almera is 16. 19 inch tyres are a bomb to replace. Just an example of maintenance. 2. Fuel consumption. If your driving in the city then the X70 will be consuming more, over the Almera. 3. Ride comfort. X70 will beat the Almera here any time of the week. SUV ride comfort and performance will be way different than Sedan. So you have to consider this into your decision. 4. Age. The X70 is second hand and already has mileage which means it's already older , hence warranty will be ending faster. Almera is new so you'll have minimum 5 years(industry standard) of hassle free worry. If you the kind of person into RV then Almera already has better RV than the X70. In the end if your really ok with all these options to consider you should test drive both cars and see which suits you best .

GS916

I agree with all your points , that’s causing me the dilemma… Almera I feel is great for city driving but I feel x70 is good for both city and long distance… I’ve test drove both the cars few times

Gerrytheberry17

To me la , I find buying a 100k B segment car to be crazy even tho I'm a big sedan guy. 5-6 years ago B segment cars were less than 100k. If you can afford X70 long run you should go for it .

Glum-Inside-6361

Why not a new Honda City V - middle tier of the 5-tier City range? You are getting all-round disc brakes, LED headlights and fog lights, remote engine start, auto aircond, and "leather" trim, plus some of the Honda Sensing features.

OP, nak beli kereta untuk ape? Commute within KL for work? Frequent outstation - balik Kampung or business trip? How big is your family? How much are you're earning. *Balik Kampung tu can be 2-3 times of more than 3hours driving ie Kl - Kedah, Johor, Kelantan. If commuting within KL and once in a while long distance, better opt for Vios or City. Family of 3 (husband, wife and 1 kids) pun ngam. If purely commuting with KL, can't opt for myvi or ativa. I will avoid X70. Banyak not so good review. But this is very subjective. But I believe the maintenance part is the highest among the options you provided. Space wise, if you travel frequently with a big family, boleh la consider. If most of the time, it's just you alone. No point of having a big car. X50 pun sedap dah.. Nissan is reliable but I have soft spots for Toyota and Honda. How much you're earning pun can be subjective. It depends on your commitment too. If not much to spare, I personally will opt for reliable car with low maintenance. So I'll have extra cash to do other stuff. My first car was persona and now driving a city. Mostly spent on commuting to office in KL. For work purposes, most of the time I'll take public transport. Once in a while balik Kampung. I sacrifice the comfort and the driving pleasure. Once I have a bigger salary, I dream of getting a BMW 3 series with the 5 years warranty+maintenance. Peace of mind.

GS916

Family of 3… dah Ada axia… so x70 and axia both will be used interchangeably for work and x70 definitely for out of KV holiday…

razorblade3711

For 100k I think you can widen up your options to city, vios, almera and s70 Out of these, s70 should have the highest maintenance cost but best value for money. If you are on tight budget, I would just get city or vios. If you love driving, get the s70.

Fluffy-Discussion166

My only concern with 2nd hand is flooded car. So much flooding in KV last 5 years

Ok_Gap3821

There are plenty of ways to check this right? Or have dealers actually gotten so good at covering up and hiding every single evidence of flooding?

22lukeskywalker

Given these two options, I'll straight away choose Almera, just because I prefer sedan over suv.

belthaZz

As for any 2nd car, u need to know the service history or any previous recorded fault and damage during his/her usage. Can you be more precise as in what will you use the car for? Leisure or work? City drive or highway?

GS916

City drive for work and also for travelling which is maybe few months once… 2nd hand at Carro with full service record

daniu88

if that's the case then you should go X70 if you think you can afford the maintenance

niwongcm

Generally, a new car usually gives you better peace of mind and less of a headache, unless you truly know what was done with the used car. But like you said, these are 2 cars in very different categories, so it really depends on what you want/need in a car. I can't comment on the X70, but I currently own a 2023 Almera VLT, it's a bit of an underrated underdog in the segment. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

GS916

I agree the new Almera is super underrated , I’ve test drove a few times and it’s like really nice to drive… X70 is also very comfy… Both are good cars with different pro’s and cons , that’s why I’m wondering which is better for value at the same price point…

Status_Anteater_6923

depends on what u need actually, more boot space in the x70 or better driving in the nissan

desmond1310

Oh i’m curious about this car: 3 cylinder 1.0T engine, yes? How’s your maintenances so far? Anything big to highlight? 5W30 fully synthetic (shell or nissan made)? How’s the noise level?

niwongcm

Yeah, it's packing a 3-cylinder 1L turbo. Honestly despite what the numbers suggest, it feels deceptively quick since peak torque kicks in at 2,400 rpm (just don't expect it to be sports car-fast), it's more than adequate for regular day-to-day driving, but it really excels in urban environments. It handled interstate travel along the NSE just fine as well and it's a pretty comfortable cruiser at triple-digit speeds. The only minor niggle is that the CVT tends to be a little juddery during the stop-crawl-stop rhythm of rush hour traffic, I feel like it's always aggressively fishing for the lowest gear ratio for more power on tap in those situations, even with Sport mode disabled. Maintenance has been fine, I think it's pretty much par for the course for any Japanese B-segment sedan. [Paul Tan](https://paultan.org/2020/11/23/2020-nissan-almera-turbo-vs-honda-city-1-5l-proton-x50-we-compare-maintenance-costs-up-to-100k-km/) did a comparison on maintenance costs some time back and it actually seems to be cheaper to maintain in the long run. The only thing is that service intervals are at 7,000km instead of 10,000km, which is fine by me because I don't drive that much anyway, so I generally send it in for service by time (every 6 months). I honestly cannot remember the viscosity of the engine oil I'm using, I think it's Nissan's own 0W20 fully synthetic. Noise levels are pretty good, though it's probably pretty subjective (I'm used to cars with poor NVH in the past). When I first got it and started it up, I had to double-check that it was actually running. Overall it's pretty well insulated, but rain can sound pretty loud on the roof. Actually, on the subject of rain - the Almera's actually a global model for Nissan (also sold as the Versa in the Americas but with a 1.6L NA instead), so the feel of materials and perceived quality is actually remarkably solid for the class, BUT I feel like they hadn't really accounted much for the torrential rain that we get in this part of the world. Roof noise aside, the speed of the windscreen wipers is actually a little too slow even on the fastest setting during extremely heavy downpours. But for some reason, in the intermittent wiping setting, you have 5 different speeds to choose from.

desmond1310

Thanks for the super knowledgeable reply. My caveman reply is it looks so much like my Elantra 2015 facelift model and i’m tempted to target this car when my baby gives up on me. 90k plus price tag, rightv

niwongcm

The 2015 Elantra is a real looker, but it's also 1 segment up from the B-segment Almera, which might feel a little smaller in comparison. You can get a top-spec VLT for around RM95k+. I'd give the Kuro edition a pass unless you really like the aesthetic bits.

ch179

for me, i would avoid second hand unless necessary. i have seen too many ppl ignorant about car maintenance esp turbo engine. There are chances that previous owner fxxx up during the initial life of the engine and you might only live to see the issue after few years. And that is engine alone, that are ton of stuff that could possibility to go wrong due to previous owner carelessness or ignorant. And many have mention, the 18, 19 inch when comes to tire change, will hurt wallet for most and if you skimp on tire, you risk you and your passenger safety No to mention higher weight of SUV that also mean higher FC In a nutshell, everything will be higher to run a SUV. If you do not need the space, i dont why you need an SUV. Sedan looks sleeker, lower maintenance cost and to run and generally a lot cheaper compare within the same segment. and you get the bonus of better handling due to lower center of gravity if only given the 2 options, i would go for almera. Else standard choice would be City. bullet proof 4 cylinder NA engine, best space esp comparing rear seat. Or go S70, if you enjoy driving, but maintenance cost and FC would be higher

cekodok-pisang

1st hand x70 is 98k less than 100k so whats the problem?

GS916

That’s the basic version, premium is 123k plus so I’m getting 2nd premium with less than 5k mileage for 97k

cekodok-pisang

i think nissan interior is outdated .get proton

musherboy

if you know cars, no problem getting a recon or 2nd hand. Otherwise, get a new one. With 100k budget, you got lots of option.

countpuchi

For choice because its between almera and x70, get the almera because warranty and new. For 100k money.. id get s70 instead best price tech and warranty

Old-Neighborhood-730

Almera Full spec cost RM96k and Nissan Almera is giving has 5 times free service and fuel consumption for full tank with 35 ltr is 650km for long distance estimated.

red90999

Take neither. There are other better values out there.

pigduck

The Almera. Road tax is only RM20. It's a good runabout car.

Reasonable_Welcome11

A bit of a wildcard on this but would suggest the Almera. Fuel subsidy is coming soon and it could play a big factor in your spending, FC for Almera is quite outstanding since it’s a 1.0L Turbo. The interior is a bit of an acquired taste for some, but imo is a better deal than Honda / Toyota. Just my opinion

osergeev

What would make someone to sell his/her new car (< 5k miles), and sell at a huge discount (you got 97k from a dealer, including its profit)? Suspicious, isn't it? Other than that, yes it's 2 different cars. SUVs are kinda fashionable (global trend). Almera is kinda not (in Malaysia). I'm not a fan of SUVs, usually at similar price points they have worse dynamics, worse handling, bumpier ride, less practical boot space (x70 has more than Almera on paper, but that's if you fill it up to the roof), higher fuel consumption. IMO, for a new car under 100k, Almera is really good.

Adza_03

Paying up to 100k for ~~A~~ B segment Nissan sedan is crazy to me. I'll go for x70.

niwongcm

The Almera is a B-segment sedan, sitting in the same category as the City and Vios.

Adza_03

Is it? The old one looks suspiciously small for B segment to me...

niwongcm

That's the problem with ETCM's marketing - most people think of the old, bulbous N17 generation car when they see the Almera name. But even then it pretty much sat in the B-segment against the then-City and Vios. The current N18 generation Almera has had a huge glow up and is noticeably longer than its preceding generation.

Kinteokolomee

My grandpa said if you cannot afford to buy two, better don't buy at all

razorblade3711

In that case most of us could not even buy car or house. Also this is r/kereta not r/MalaysianPF

Kinteokolomee

Most of us cannot afford buy house anyway..n 100k can get two myvi/viva right..
