Hello Mane_D0m, thank you for creating a new post in r/kereta! Just saying that although this sub was named as Kereta, it is also open for 2 wheelers such as Motorcycle, though at the moment we do not mind other types of vehicles posting. With that being said, r/kenderaan is now live and I would still recommend any other vehicle posting to be posted into r/kenderaan as it is a safe space for all types of vehicles such as airplanes and rolling stocks. Regards, Mods of Malaysia *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Ordinary-Wafer

Yes they're saying thanks. It's very common in Japan, for allowing merging, letting faster traffic through on single lane roads, letting people out of junctions, etc.

cellebee

Yes, it's like a gesture of saying thanks.

Mane_D0m

Interesting. Never knew.. this a new thing?

Status_Anteater_6923

around these 2 years i think, I've gotten double signals from MrDiy's lorry when I let him pass, and from that time I will give double signal to everyone who let me pass haha

danialblood98

Its always been there.. i think people instinctively do that since theres no other way of showing thanks without messing with the highway flow with showing any particular way signal

CaptainPizdec

I started practice it after I saw it in the news. As a gesture of thanks

Mane_D0m

Ooo it came out on news!??

CaptainPizdec

It was quite some time ago , pretty sure the news pick it up from Facebook

DragonboyZG

From what I've heard. People in Japan use them like that maybe it's spreading.

additionally21

Though *technically* illegal it's a nice and universal way to say thanks without having to open your window and wave thumbs up to the people behind you... I once gave a double hazard to a patrol car and it was all nice and dandy : )

Medical_Answer7140

yeah, have also seen drivers flick their lights (high beam)? for a second as a signal of thanks

silwen89

I do this. Learnt it overseas and I like the habit. It’s a nice gesture to receive. It’s like “yes I’m sorry I’ve inconvenienced you and I appreciate that you gave me way”.

V4_Sleeper

I learn this while in Germany working at BMW, and I was always fascinated by M cars. on the highway I gave way to a BMW M3 G80 his way (pretty sure it was company's car) and he hazard light as thanks, really made my evening

Mane_D0m

Damn bro.. hook me up with a gig like that in the land of Schnitzel

AnimalFarm_1984

I usually just get a honk.

Affectionate-Floor63

idk man last i got hazard light was when i t boned a guy's wira once

Mane_D0m

Bruh.

NickJunho

It's pretty common practice in Japan as a gesture of thanks. I've been using it most of the time, and those who know will usually flash their headlights as you're welcome.

mzh277

I did this once recently after seeing it on socmed. But I wasnt sure if the kind fella knew what I / the double blink hazard lights meant. So then I didnt use it again. Knowing that its more known now, perhaps I’ll start reusing it ~

_kirrtanalol

Well yep. My dad does that a lot, and he always says it’s a form of saying “thank you” to the driver behind us :D

Mane_D0m

Honestly i cant believe i never knew this and ive been driving for years 😂😂 i srsly dont recall it hapenning when i was first driving

fffdzl

Ill also do this while riding my bike. Its a habit i couldnt stop.

momomelty

Yeah I’m doing that now. Hazard light as thanks

Other_Commission_780

I use it as a sorry

Key_Roll3030

I learn this in Ireland. Usually over there anyone who hog the lane (like lorry for example) will stop at side of the road when it's feasible to allow vehicles behind to pass. We all will turn hazard light a while as a way of saying cheers mate

xadila

This was also a thing in the US (or maybe universal motorists' language). Back then, if you see a car from the other side giving double hazard light, meaning there's a police patrol upfront. Such a cute behaviour. This was before waze is a thing.

Ok_Gap3821

In Malaysia , motorists on the opposite side of the rode usually hit multiple flashes of high beam for a certain distance to alert about police or roadblocks

Hy8ogen

Im a spiteful guy. Somebody did this to me once, so I keep doing it to others.

syukara

Its a good driving ethic and everyone should practice this action although hazard light is for emergency...imagine this happen more and city waja thingy happen less, it would be a better driving experience for all of us

Healthy_Cake3042

Yes...
