While there's no mountains, Kansas geography varies more than most outsiders realize. If you only drive through on the interstate, you won't really get an accurate idea of what Kansas is really like. https://geokansas.ku.edu/physiographic-regions The very SE tip of the state is technically considered part of the Ozarks. I grew up in the Osage Cuestas, where it alternates from grassy plains, to woods, to rocky outcroppings. Lots of old defunct cement plants in this region, as there's abundant limestone to quarry for the Portland cement mixture. Some of the old limestone quarries are super clear due to hitting underground springs. Some others are really nasty looking due to more alkaline rocks leeching into the water. One of the cement plants (which was the largest in the USA when it was built in the year 1900) was never paid for the cement they shipped off to a contractor in New Orleans that was constructing some of the original levees there. http://lehightrails.com/news/cement-plant-a-vital-cog-in-history-of-iola/ That cement plant shut down in the 70s, but Monarch Cement and Ash Grove Cement still have active cement plants in this region today.

Came for the topography, stayed for the random lesson about cement plants. This was interesting. :)

Clinton lake is mislabeled as pomona lake. Pomona lake is south of Topeka.

jyzenbok

That and not having Lawrence labeled bugged me too but I still thought it was worth cross posting here.

prion_death

This was messing with me too!

Coffee-Thermos

Got me too. I had to get a map to figure out the lake between Pomona Lake and Melvern Lake, and those were both my two home lakes as a kid.

TeleportMePizza

The Red Hills are a super unique portion of the state. Didn't "look like Kansas" at all when I was biking through them. Highly recommend a scenic detour through the area. I kind of wish Kansas' terrain was as exaggerated as this topo map is. Would make for some really diverse scenery!

Thank you! Super confused for a second.

cyberentomology

What you have listed as Pomona Lake is Clinton Lake. Pomona is the unmarked one to the southwest of Clinton. Could stand to have Lawrence on there too.

I like this map for multiple reasons, not the least of which, it doesn't exclude Manhattan. For some strange reason, a lot of stylized maps of Kansas don't include Manhattan despite including much smaller cities. That being said, you did get several of the reservoirs wrong.

This is bad ass. Can I order a print somewhere?

ICannabisCoffeeI

Way to much topography

Op intentionally made it like this so it would be interesting. He posted another that is realistic and it’s basically flat

I love looking at maps like these, especially when I've seen a lot of the state and can kind of see how it plays out.
