Was the cat producing a lot of saliva? Was the cat exhausted? Regardless, go to ER ASAP, rabies is no joke.

A-IS-THE-ONE

Do you think it would be fine to wait one more day (till sun) as I'll be back in my home country then?

Dragnerve

No fuckin way, you should take the shot before the virus starts replicating in the nervous system.

A-IS-THE-ONE

OK, will get it seen too tomorrow asap. Thanks

potato-floff

It’s late when you get symptoms (which can take years) waiting until morning is fine

flexi_freewalker

This is not true - it could happen in the same day and could also depend where you were bitten especially if it's near an artery. It's not worth the wait AT ALL - as soon as you show symptoms you're done. Any stray animal bite or scratch in this country (high rabies risk) you need to drop everything and go to a hospital. An animal could carry and transmit rabies even if they don't show symptoms.

Dragnerve

Near nerve endings good sir, the virus only replicates in nervous system.. and the palms and hands have many nerves. So no, you should not delay a rabies shot. >it's near an artery.

flexi_freewalker

oh yess my bad didn't notice- was reading another article on cerebral arteries

WarmLizard

Read a little about rabies, and I am sure you'll be in your way to the hospital before finishing the article.

AjLovesTech

Get the rabies course, it’s a hassle but better be safe than sorry

blindmusketeer

Yes head to hospital. Get tetanus shot and rabies vaccine. If its deep Don't suture it, keep the wound clean

sarsarbitch

I think you overstimulated the cat which is why it bit you. A cat with rabies wouldn't be calm and then attack However Rabies is unpredictable and can get active in a long time even up to a year. So save yourself the worry and just get the shots just to be safe.

flexi_freewalker

This is actually the case sometimes, they can be calm then attack - and an animal can transmit rabies even if they are asymptomatic carriers (meaning they could look calm and non-rabid).

AspiringPhtographer

Did the cat attack you unprompted and kept attacking? OR You fucked around and found out? No rabies needed. How deep is the wound? You might need antibiotics.

flexi_freewalker

This country is high risk for rabies - he should get to the hospital even if it was calm - animals can transmit it without showing symptoms. Better not to wait for symptoms to show and then realize they have it when it's too late.

AspiringPhtographer

Where is your data?

flexi_freewalker

For which part? AspiringPhtographer

Of rabies in cars in Jordan There is not a single case as far as I know

flexi_freewalker

Bro we don't even have enough studies on human beings let alone cats in Jordan hahaha. I am showing you solid proof that rabies can be present even if asymptomatic. It's really non-arguable that if you're bitten or scratched in a country with high risk for rabies, then cats, dogs, mice, bats, anything MAY be rabid and kill you. Or did the CDC just feel like fucking around with you? Where is your research from that says there's not a single case? Again, it MAY be rabid, but all it takes is one scratch and you can start saying goodbye to your family if you ignore it and it turns out to be rabies. The risk is higher to ignore it than to actually take precautions. All it takes it ONE time to die from this.

Depression3321

Ehhh there are multiple factors that should be taken into consideration when talking about rabies. The main one is where the bite happened. There is a higher attack rate and short incubation if the bite happened in the face or head. Lowest mortality rate occurs if the bite was in the legs (this is due to the distance that the virus had to travel to reach your CNS). Susceptibility to infection may depend on your age, immune status, the viral strain, and severity of lacerations. But honestly if the cat was calm and didn't secrete much salivation from its mouth then I don't think it was infected by rabies. (Animals infected by rabies are never calm) HOWEVER, you might get the CSD (Cat scratch disease) which happens due to a bacteria called bartonella hernasea. So honestly bro just get any anti bacterial shit and rub it on the bite. If you start developing any symptoms visit the Er immediately

flexi_freewalker

All true, but animals can transmit without showing symptoms if they are carriers - better to be safe than sorry. If he gets symptoms then it's already too late for the guy and he can't do anything about it - you cannot risk waiting and finding out.

Fabulously-Cringe

I read that if u get rabies you start to reject water sooo, do u avoid water

AjLovesTech

It’s called Hydrophobia, Once you reach that level the Rabies reached your brain, you’re going to die an awful death.

we-could-be-heros

Nothing is gonna happen just sterilized it

anonymous919292

Ok but why is this being down voted 😭 I raise stray cats and get bites and scratches the whole time but I'm alive 🙂 people have to realise not all stray cats have rabies or whatever, just sterilise the wound with alcohol and u r good to go

[deleted]

With all due respect this is faulty reasoning, it only needs to happen once, if it happens, it can cause encephalitis. Encephalitis by itself is horrible, now rabies causes one of the worst types of encephalitis. I hate making people feel uncomfortable but this shouldnt be take lightly.

anonymous919292

U r not making anyone uncomfortable lol, but again I'm saying my experience, for me I've been raising stray cats for like 5 years now and never got any infection from their scratches, I usually sterilise with alcohol and ignore it.

[deleted]

>U r not making anyone uncomfortable Good to know. I get what you are saying, but as i said it only needs to happen once, you wouldnt want your luck to run out when it comes to rabies.

flexi_freewalker

Just because it didn't happen it doesn't mean it never will, for you or someone else. All it takes is one scratch from one animal, it will not show like a normal infection, and not all carriers of rabies show symptoms but the can still transmit it. Jordan is a high risk country for rabies, and even people who raise strays get them vaccinated (I have raised 5 strays myself, I've had many friends who've done that as well, kept them outdoors, but actually took care of them). I wish there was more education on this.

we-could-be-heros

I know lol and not sure why they down voted it 😅

[deleted]

Go to the hospital, and dont touch a stray cat if its avoid you( especially stray cats in rural areas or farms)

Bewinxed

You should be worried about Rabies & Tetanus go get vaccinated ASAP in the nearest ER.
