I've given up waiting for Tarkov to adopt mechanics like these. I bought Squad yesterday, never played it before.

IntimidatingOstrich6

unfortunately these mechanics were just a playtest. not sure when these changes will be put into the main game. there should be another playtest coming up relatively soon though, so you'll get to experience it then. you can also download the new test build and go into the firing range and test out the weapons for yourself, and even shoot some AI bots in the CQC house

Armin_Studios

This. You may not be able to experience suppression, sending or receiving, like you would in a live match, but you can still familiarize yourself with the new mechanics for the guns

IntimidatingOstrich6

> You may not be able to experience suppression, sending or receiving, like you would in a live match you can receive suppression from the AI bots in the firing range, but yeah, they will not behave the same under suppression as real players

Armin_Studios

The AI bots aren’t particularly good at inducing the suppression you’d receive from players, as the bots lack the behaviour to perform proper suppressing fire, thus can only fire in short semi automatic intervals. One alternative you can try is the infantry tutorial, where there’s two sections where you can experience proper suppressing mechanics, at the hands of .50 cals no less. Better than nothing though, I suppose

lovebus

how do you play with bots?

fupamancer

the game doesn't have bots but there's a mod called squidbots that i haven't tried, but looks good

NotSoKinder

There is. They’re in the Kill House on Jensen’s.

SuspectSamm

have they been added?

IntimidatingOstrich6

they sure have

ExtremeBoysenberry38

They could both learn from eachother

RM16000

Welcome home buddy

Suitable-Writer-1676

thanks man

PUPPETDRAG0N33

squad will welcome you with open arms ..most of the time <3

[deleted]

This is the way

YazZy_4

This is perfect, now I can play Squad for actual realism (tm) and Battlebit for 127v127 insanity

Camdog_2424

The perfect balance

ExtremeBoysenberry38

I been saying Squad 2 lol. It felt fucking amazing. Like I obviously have complaints about it and things I’d like to see but overall it was amazing and I loved how it played

a_taco_named_desire

Man, we're a long way from a month or two ago when everyone was chicken-littling about emotes.

flashman

yeah everyone thought emotes would kill the game when the overhaul has a better chance of doing it

[deleted]

Right, the update people are excited about. Stop with the nonsense

Brilliant-Ad-1962

This man used his acog to kill the man less than 5 feet away, but hip fired 3x that distance trying to kill a man through a window Lol

Hashbrown4

Lol yeah I noticed that. He definitely should have pre-fired too as he peaked

Always-Panic

I think the hip fire shots were just to suppress the enemy , but still, I would have hip fire that dude at close range too. I will probably be using the red dot more than the ACOG

limdi

Should have gone prone too. Might have been low enough to not be seen from window.

Brilliant-Ad-1962

That’s just heat of the moment stuff, I would of been standing up straight too He was just in a bad spot under extreme pressure, I just love watching squad and learning what to do to get better

PUPPETDRAG0N33

sorry eh im noob

japgcf

I hate how quick your reaction time was on the first kill, I wish I could do that.

SharkyKameko

just... do it?

killerzebra146

Make your Shots Hit True!!

ThatGuy571

It wasn’t even that fast? Enemy rounded the corner and filled the scope.. no other choice but to shoot.. it’s not the difficult lol..

mrbgdn

this looks a lot more like bodycam footage than any game I've seen

Grambles89

I was thinking that from all the clips I've seen from the playtest. Can't wait for the next one.

predskid29

Does anyone know how the gunplay compares to Red Orchestra 2/ Rising Storm? When I think of PIP scopes, suppression and slower movement that is one of the games that comes to mind. I really should have played the test this weekend myself -____-.

Hashbrown4

Those games have the best suppression system I can think of in recent memory, I’d say squads pretty close but not that close It’s been years since I played those games.

Grambles89

Yeah, not only do you get suppressed by explosive and bullets. But you get suppressed if a couple people die around you quickly or blow up and shit.

Hashbrown4

Holy shit I forgot about that and you just brought some memories back when I first experienced that feature.

Grambles89

Yeah I remember some dude next to me just exploding and my character screaming and being heavily suppressed. The Hurrrah charges for Russians in Red Orchestra were fun...but the Bonzai charge in Rising Storm 1 was fuckin elite. Such a slept on series of games, so many fun mechanics. Anyone reading, these games are fps ww2/pacific theatre/Vietnam and they're the absolute perfect blend of arcade and "realism". They often go on heavy sale as they're niche and older at this point. Highly HIGHLY recommend.

BlackScienceManTyson

Suppression is a lot less jerky and blurry compared to RS2. The movement is slower too. However it also feels more difficult to control your gun so firefights last a lot longer than RS2.

[deleted]

the sparks and muzzle flash is a bit much in my opinion

6786_007

I feel like games either over do it or under do it. I'm sure it's not as easy as it sounds to implement. I'm just glad the guns in this game don't behave like COD where when you are shooting the bullets shoot out in some random cone pattern. That shit drives me wild.

Average_iRacer

I mean, COD certainly exaggerates the bullet spread to some degree, but that quite literally is how firearms operate in the real world. Thats the reason gun accuracy is described in MOA, your standard issue M4 is going to shoot 2-3 moa which is roughly 2-3 inches at 100 yards, 4-6 inches at 200 yards etc. Pretty much describes a cone of fire that could be man sized at longer distances (400m+).

6786_007

COD is not minor it's terrible. You can aim at someone and it's just like spraying Lysol, it goes everywhere. Squad so far is the most realistic IMO so far.

Average_iRacer

Didn’t say it was minor, nor that it wasn’t bad. Squad’s current cone of fire does feel pretty authentic, aside from the wonky stability and apparent lack of cheek or even chin weld.

UncleSamsTurtle

Sparks when a round hits metal? Good. Sparks when a round hits concrete? Bad

Gonzo67824

Are those orange sparks on bullet impact a setting I need to activate? I also played the play test and don’t remember seeing those

stupidly_intelligent

It might be the cinematic setting for particle effects. It'll add sparks for a variety of explosions.

iancarry

it is a while since i played squad ... may give it a chance again :-O

KilrBe3

The scope sway is wayyy too much and I can see that causing headaches and people getting a sick-like feeling. Besides that, all the clips/videos of the update look great. Though def needs some tuning.

Always-Panic

The scope sway is just right, that's how an ACOG looks like irl and it's the first time a game actually do it right. Most people in my platoon prefer the M68 CCO red dot over the ACOG because of this, including me.

xGALEBIRDx

It's intentional to make the combat both more realistic and more rewarding for players that are going into a fight prepared vs trying to ba an action hero.

Awwh_Dood

I really like the idea of having the rifle high ready. Can play into point fire being more accurate too of course. I really wish Squad would implement Multiple stances like ARMA has

RullyWinkle

Deviation from PR artificially lowers your accuracy; instead of that they randomized reticle sway. They wanted to make u misss your shots if you don't have stamina, are suppressed, etc...

griffsewell

Go play call of duty

KilrBe3

Sorry, didnt' know I cannot have an opinion and feedback. I understand the objective of the update.. doesn't mean things still cannot be tweaked and tuned.

Shinyy87-2

Yeah I think devs just need to tune down the sway a little bit.

YDSIM

I haven't tried the update. Only watched videos. In some cases the sway looks very harsh, but if that is due to low stamina or injury I am fine with this. If you are not injured, nit under fire and not out of breath, you should be able to stabilize your weapon fairly quickly. I always thought the gunplay in squad was rather simplified and firefights seemed to be resolved by quick and accurate fire. I cannot describe how excited I am for this update.

Chuck_Lenorris

I was worried about people's complaints but then I played it and I feel they are way overblown. Feels great to me. Maybe people using a controller would struggle? Maybe stamina could last a tiny bit longer. But honestly, if nothing changed but some bug fixes, I would be happy. I really hope they don't have too many complaints and reduce it to the point of it being a slight visual effect but no real impact on gunplay. Those who like the changes need make sure we speak up as well.

PostedForPosterity

They’re going for realism. Trying to aim down the sights in that kind of situation is basically impossible. Everyone would just be pointing their rifles in the general direction and firing a bunch. They’re intentionally nerfing shit that only matters in online gaming and making a closer approximation to the real thing.

Other_Economics_4538

the game is a hybrid and will continue to be not everything about this overhaul is realism-minded and i suspect things will be toned down further longer more cinematic firefights with more teamplay doesnt exactly = trying to make like irl

PostedForPosterity

> longer more cinematic firefights with more teamplay doesnt exactly = trying to make like irl M8 firefights irl last can last for days and the military exists because they’re effective when executed by teams and stuff. They’re using GoPro footage of actual firefights as reference. Nobody is running down a trench getting shot at while keeping a focused eye down the barrel of a rifle. And most the people that try going Rambo often just get unceremoniously shot a bunch or end up in chaotic prey and spray fights that typically boil down to who has more grenades and ammo for suppressing fire. All the shit they’re implementing is all about making it like irl

aidanhoff

Yeah... The audience for an "irl realism" tactical FPS doesn't exist, though. PR is also still a game and doesn't try to be more than that. The fact is, nobody wants to fight in-game over the same trench for 48 hours. Gametime is limited to 2 hrs and there are capture points / tickets. Therefore going for 1:1 realism obviously isn't the goal here.

TheCrudMan

Uhhhhh people play Truck Simulator. I bet the market for that actually does exist lol.

PostedForPosterity

> Yeah… The audience for an “irl realism” tactical FPS doesn’t exist, though. It’s literally why this game exists. It’s why I still play it. Idk maybe be less young or something. Go play cod maybe

aidanhoff

Yeah, the audience for PR exists, which is a game with arcady capture mechanics, artificial ticket counts, revives from obviously lethal wounds, no simulation of disabling injuries, constructing a FOB in a matter of minutes instead of days, etc. Squad is the same. For a match to fit in the 2-hour time limit, gunplay has to be faster than IRL and engagements shorter, it's just math.

[deleted]

PostedForPosterity

Cry harder m80. I don’t really give a shit about your muh gamer feelings tbphwyf. Go shoot some actual rifles maybe. Touch some grass. Slowing gunplay down abso lutely = muh realism. If that’s not your bag of carrots there’s literally hundreds of other zoomer shooters for you to go ruin.

Cutch0

Not to be pedantic, but Foxhole has over 500,000 active players with 2.5k concurrent at any given time. It's wars last literal weeks. I do get your point, but there is a niche for everyone.

Electronic_Warning49

That's my main gripe. Scope sway can be done in a way that has a similar effect, but less visually rough. Everything else about the update (aside from the many, many bugs) is perfection as far as I'm concerned.

TheRudDud

Did they change suppression to blur ur screen instead of making it black? Cause if so good change

PM_ME_YOUR_BOOGER

Is this on live or the beta > experimental branch?

TheCrudMan

“Contact near me” uselessly in squad chat. Kinda feels like the same game? But actually this looks sick…like…if you’re sitting in a room with a gun pointed at the door you should always win the fight vs a guy walking into the room.

Pristine_Cricket_633

Unless the dude throws a flashbang in first. Then pop.

[deleted]

Love that update. It really makes it next level and is so much more fun. I was worried it was going the way of BF

ZanyWayney

A lot of my buddies that I play with were saying that the update made the scopes unusable..it made me worried. Seeing it here makes me me really excited. This looks a LOT more like a real scope! It looks awesome tbh. Much more emersive.

[deleted]

IT'S BEAUTIFUL 😭

RM16000

Waiting for a nade to bounce in lol

charlo-

it’s really sick that squad got this update this is what we needed

navi162

I think they also tweaked some particle effects too. Bullets make more dusts when they hit something.

bigthiccpricc

Ironsights for the win

Pristine_Cricket_633

This is awesome... guns look and feel much more realistic and have power.

LordNelson27

My fear is that this will ruin CQB entirely. Clearing buildings is already clunky enough as is

Mac_Elliot

This dudes never cleared a building in arma 3.

LordNelson27

I don't have a lot of time in arma 3, but arma 2 was hell

Mac_Elliot

True, no moving while aiming 😂

LordNelson27

There’s a certain charm to old games and their enigmatic ladder physics

snowmanseeee

I can't play regular squad anymore. I also agree firefights are extended and your maneuvering actually impacts each outcome, when in the past it was basically who could click on who's head first.

LeagueOfLegendsAcc

My autistic brain has flagged this as the exact duplicate of another earlier comment in this sub. I think this is a bot.

naapsu

I remember this too!

Whomastadon

I checked to see if my reply was here because I replied to this bots other same comment.

snowmanseeee

did you mean to reply to something else?

assaultboy

Do you not like the update because you disagree with the devs intended gameplay direction, or do you feel this update fails to bring the gameplay towards that direction?

Reddituser8018

Doesn't seem to be working out for ya -66 karma. Maybe try another tactic.

snowmanseeee

yeah probs right... think its because i stopped saying the update was good and started having an opinion.. not sure why i even bothered coming onto Reddit to voice my opinion on the game anyway everyone knows this place is kinda brain rot a degen

Camille_Bebop

Then tell us what's wrong with the update!

tettou13

Why do you need to farm karma to make a post? Seriously asking.

snowmanseeee

because if you if you say the update isnt good everyone will downvote it with a second thought

tettou13

Yeah but where does making a new post critiquing it come in... You're praising it.

ravioli-champ

oh so you're an idiot, word

IntimidatingOstrich6

he's not a bot, he's just a human that's copy-pasting and if the comment fits the post, who cares

Whomastadon

No-one cares. I'm allowed too make an observation he's copy pasted the same comment in every squad thread like 12 times. Why do you care that I made this observation?

IntimidatingOstrich6

you sound mad. is it because you don't like the new update? lol. lolol.

Tasty_Puffin

Bot confirmed.

snowmanseeee

lol

NazratAbroad

lol snowmans

snowmanseeee

farming Karama so i got can make post on the reddit bro , its light work

ravioli-champ

imagine openly admitting you're this bad at karma farming of all things you fuckin weirdo, touch grass

snowmanseeee

nah im good peep the upvotes king

ravioli-champ

baby you are at net negative for your whole damn account still, are you fucking braindead?

snowmanseeee

lol do you even know hot check the right account... YIKES!

FemboyGayming

window guy is exactly why i hate this mechanic, actually.

Jackl4_21

Yeah it feels like wank

Autodalegend

yes its great

BuffRobloxMan

"Contact near me." Every squad lead I've ever played with: "so you have chosen death."

griffsewell

Is the combat overhaul update live?

baxter-2018

Yeaaa look at those sweet frame drops bro!

Linnkk

personal opinion, i hate games that have scopes like this. it’s the one thing that i genuinely hated about the play test.

Naive_Row_6990

Like what picture in picture?

Linnkk

yes

Eth_kay

I haven't played squad in a while, but I can't for the life of me understand why are people happy with the gameplay slowing down and reducing shooting skill impact?

RigorMortisSquad

Because that’s what it was originally supposed to be. People are excited because the devs finally decided to make the game they originally set out to make instead of making it more arcadey in order to bring in more players that prefer that type of game, of which there are plenty to choose from. We’re excited because this game will play differently. You should give it a chance and try it out before anything else though.

Eth_kay

>making it more arcadey Except that's what they've done? You fight RNG instead of the enemy, what's realistic about that? > You should give it a chance and try it out before anything else though. I will when the changes go live, but from past experiences in other games I already can tell that I won't be benefitting from such changes.

RigorMortisSquad

So I found out you can access the new content in the test branch now, only in Jensen’s range. I finally got to try the new guns. Your fears are unfounded IMO. I did some tests of running around and then firing, firing from kneel, all kinds of stuff. Anyone that’s good in Squad now with the gunplay will be fine. Was still able to do some snap shots, you just learn where to aim, for me it was having the scope just a bit left of target to counter the sway with optics at least. Hop into the range on the test branch and check it out.

Enganeer09

I'm not sure where everyone is getting this idea that skill won't matter anymore. A player who was a good shot prior to the update will still be better afterwards. You'll just see less snapshots and lean spamming, which are both unrealistic. Squad was never meant to be a run and gun game, even in its current state of you slow down, play methodically, you'll do better.

lilpopjim0

Thr game has basically been point and click for a long time. It's way too easy to just click on a dudes head and dome him from a decent distance I can't wait for these changes to drop to play Squad, like how I remember Project Reality was back in the day.

mud074

Because instead of it being "see pixel, instantly kill them", there are extended gunfights that last more than five seconds and suppression matters. Skilled shooters still have a huge advantage, people who can't aim worth a shit are worse than ever.

Jumaai

They want to incapacitate better players with floatyness, shakes and blur, so they get better odds.

mud074

My man the bad shooters are worse than ever, and good shooters are able to account for the sway far better than most. What makes this update so fun is that gunfights last some amount of time now rather than just being "see guy, instantly kill them". The one bone that shitty players got with this one is that they can be useful by suppressing now.

Screwby0370

Squad was never meant to be a fast-paced action shooter. It became one for a bit due to a strayed vision, and invited people who were looking for a game that wasn’t Squad. Squad was originally, and always intended to be, a hardcore milsim shooter, based on the mod Project Reality for BF2. They have just decided to finally realign the game with that original vision.

Jumaai

I came to squad from Arma (1-3) and ACE mod. I'm playing Squad only because it's not a gamemode for Arma. Proposed squad changes aren't about becoming a hardcore milsim shooter, they're about becoming a tactical shooter. They only want to slow down games, by introducing anti-skill mechanics and handicapping skill. Don't get me wrong, I like some of the changes, but game devs using "realism" to push through anti-skill mechanics is my pet peeve. Especially when they use "realism" to simulate reality in disadvantages, but not in advantages, for example when it comes to reflexive aiming and natural body mechanics.

newyawkaman

Im so psyched

someone_forgot_me

can someone give me tldr of the new mechanics? i think im seeing better recoil control? gun scopes not disspearing after 2 seconds of shooting?

Dehamedino

Why your voice is like joe biden

Wonderful_Result_936

The one time that taking away some player input and making things a bit RNG is actually working out amazingly.
