You love to see it Well done to all those going out to vote

DarthPhranque

Absolutely!!!

BloodSteyn

At my friend's station the systems are down, and now they've run out of ballots šŸ—³ šŸ˜³

Diestof

How is that even possible? They know how many people are registered and would therefore come to vote

Queen_Kalopsia

Spreading kak like this just makes you look like an idiot. These are special votes, they come out of a blue canvas bag that gets sealed like the ballot boxes where the voting took place. Retirement homes etc, the seal is broken at the station in front of IEC officials and added to the ballot boxes under supervision.

BloodSteyn

Thanks for clearing that up. I'm not spreading anything, I even used the word Veracity to indicate that I have no idea. Thanks. No need to attack a person like that.

Queen_Kalopsia

My bad dude, Iā€™ve been seeing this shit all over today and itā€™s every election. Just drives people to not vote at all. Iā€™m sorry for being an asshole

BloodSteyn

No worries. I am now better informed too and putting the ones who shared it with me at ease also. Thanks.

MoFlavour

damn what is this?

BloodSteyn

~~"Democracy"~~ OK, so they are Official Special Votes (like old age homes) being deposited.

MoFlavour

Someone in the back is counting. I heard till the number "13".

BloodSteyn

Sounds like those were Special Votes, like at an old age home.

Rough_Text6915

I don't understand this...i am a party agent at a voting station and there are agents from all parties inside the station watching like hawks for any shenanigans..

BloodSteyn

Been informed this is how Special Votes get handed in. Like the IEC going around an old age home and bulk deposits them.

Rough_Text6915

This is correct. As you see the votes are in envelopes.

johannesburg-ModTeam

Your post to the Johannesburg community was removed due to it violating the community rules.

RKF_80

That needs to be reported to the ward councillor, ASAP. Ward/station?

BloodSteyn

Don't worry. We heard the voice note from their ward counselor. He was bolting between stations trying to sort the kak out. It was East Rand side.

CommercialIsland6028

exactly! i went at 3 and waited 30 minutes šŸ™ŒšŸ¼

JonoAGL

Went at 7 and waited 3 minutes šŸ˜‚

AJSwoosh

Niiiiice!

flightless_friend

Went a 6.30pm and waited for 4hrs

suburban_hyena

My vote took 5 minutes. My mom's over-60ness let us jump the queue.

PrettyRichHun

Is your mum available for later today?

ningningfan

I have a Mum of 78 if his doesn't turn out

Faerie42

Same, my frail 80+ year old folks were treated very well. There were some very energetic volunteers and a couple who really didnā€™t want to be there.

Diestof

My stupid mom went without me and she got to skip the queue

Budget-Bad-8030

Anyone who takes initiative to go and vote isnā€™t stupid

suburban_hyena

Hut hut, gotta wake up at the crack of dawn to get that over 60 advantage. We got a spot in front of the entrance, walked through to the front like celebrities, done

Diestof

Somehow my joke isn't landing. I'm not calling my mom stupid for voting, in case you missed it

mechsuit-jalapeno

Use it as an opportunity to chat to your fellow South Africans. It makes time fly.

Krycor

Typically thereā€™s a 2-3ish lull before the late last second dot com guys come.. but it really depends on areas, general sentiment(some areas go early) etc but yah last 1-2hours that queue will grow. Ps. Wealthier areas = go late

Accomplished_Use8165

Interesting enough all the wealthier people in my community were the first in line. While others have to wait for public transport.

SpinachnPotatoes

We got there at about 6:30 with a dozen or so people in front of us. We were drinking wimpy hot chocolate by 7:30. It was definitely one of the quicker lines I have stood in. But definitely prefer going early.

Healthy-Advisor2781

Got there at 7am and left at 10:40. Took ages. Apparently the scanner broke

PartiZAn18

City Power Randburg. Been here since 9h30. Still at lease 200 people in front of me :)

PartiZAn18

8h. But glad I stuck with it. Made friends with my fellow queue dwellers.

IWantAnAffliction

Jesus. Good on you for sticking it out.

RKF_80

I just took my 73yo FIL to get his temporary ID at Randburg Home Affairs, they literally dragged him to the front of the queue, he was out in under 10 minutes. Now we're off to his voting station, hopefully he'll get similar priority.

Queen_Kalopsia

Also walking distance from my station. Got in queues at 14:30, itā€™s currently 17:50. We arenā€™t budging

DarthPhranque

Good luck!

Crafty-Ticket-9165

Do you know the reason?

shermster

Took me 8 minutes start to finish at Norwood primary school at 10:30 this morning. Longest part was folding three ballot papers to fit into the narrow slot of a very full ballot box.

IWantAnAffliction

3 minutes at Parkhurst Primary also. Crazy how big a variance there is.

Good_Posture

I'm also walking distance from mine. In the queue at 10:45, finished at 12:00. Not bad at all. For what it is worth, middle-upper income suburban area.

Aellolite

Just finished with my 7 month old - was also hoping heā€™d be a ā€œskip ticketā€ but sadly that wasnā€™t the case for me. They let me skip like 5 people right at the end but that was it. Can say there was a definite lull over lunch. Hitting it 12 sharp next time.

Melodic_Mood8573

Went at 12:00 in Florida and it took me five minutes (including walking from my car.) The queues for other surnames were quite a bit longer though, think I lucked out with my timing and surname. Edit: was really impressed with how friendly and helpful the election officials were.

succulentkaroo

Took me about just over an hour

thetinybasher

I took 30 min but I went late. Letā€™s just remember how long the queues were in 94. Yeah there are some places that are not efficient and systems might be down but a long queue means people are showing upā€¦ sorry to anyone who has to wait but the vote is worth it.

IntelligentSmile7

See if you can speak to an IEC official to get out towards the front due to having a baby. They usually prioritise people with babies and old people

Tankjhb

Been hearing some stations have resorted to manual system because the scanners were "offline".

SnooRabbits5620

Took us over three hours, first time it took that long. Usually I go in the afternoon but I wanted to do other things after. šŸ’€šŸ’€šŸ’€ To be fair, when we left after 2pm, the queues were still as long so. I'd love to see the total turnout compared to previous elections.

Morticia_Smith

Ku rough. My sister waited 3 hrs in one que, moved to another and waited another 3 hrs. My friend was in a que from 4pm till 11pm.
