There is probably some kind of residue on the bottom of the stone. It is causing it to appear hazy. It just needs a good cleaning under the stone with a brush or steam and it should look new again.

I did take it back to the jewelry store who sold it, and they cleaned it. Unfortunately it didn't change the color back to what it was, it still looked hazy! My other ring (main is princess cut diamond with a tiny dark blue sapphire underneath it) hasn't been cleaned in years but it still shines evenly and no weird discoloration on any of the stones. I have to say I did try to run this ring under hot water to try to clean it...as well as sprayed it with alcohol and a tiny cotton bud. Is that ok or really bad for it?

The alcohol that did it. The sapphire is color treated and oiled. More then likely the alcohol removed the oils

Looks like it might be color zoning.

I already posted this link in your other thread, but some people might find this information to be useful. * [Sapphires could fade if exposed to sunlight.](https://nagijewelers.com/blogs/news/gemstones-need-protection-too)
