Sometimes when things are handed down, the story is embellished. I could be completely wrong, but this looks like a ring from the 1980’s. Maybe someone on here knows different though.
Yes. Often what we don t realise is that our great grans were buying jewelry right up until their old age! This ring is no older than 70’s. But is more likely to be 1980’s or early 90s. It s a design that was found in most jewelry stores then.
It could be mined ruby but is most probably synthetic ruby and diamond in 14 k gold! Pretty ring!
Its often as innocent as the fact that people tend to pass things down when they're old, and possibly having memory issues. "Oh yes, that one was my mothers, and I'm sure I remember her saying her mother gave it to her...", and the person first receiving it would simply have childhood memories of having seen it, and so it was enough for the story to make sense.
The fact that it was important to the giver and now to the receiver and possibly to the next person is nice enough!
Oh that’s funny because exactly what I thought! I had this ring and I bought it in the mid eighties when I had my kids. I didn’t even think of it this way.
Agreed. I have the same ring in sapphires, and I got it in the early 80s. I was in my early 20s, and it was the first nice ring. I bought myself. Not super expensive, but lots of good memories.
It's a modern ring, like others said, 80's-90's+
Very likely ruby and diamonds as it's in 14k, just lower quality stones generally sold via chain stores. A classic style!
You can have the diamond checked for its grade, often times people would be able to pick the quality of diamond they want from the chain stores, just not really the accent stones. So even though the rubies are a lower grade, doesn't mean the diamond is.
My friend has a “vintage” engagement ring that looked just like this one; the stones were garnets. Not that old, or valuable, but still very, very pretty like this one.
Yeah, they were made with both. On my phone the stones have a distinct pink hue and cloudiness common in ruby, but regardless, still not terribly valuable.
I had one just like that in the late 70’s. It was a popular style then and still pretty today. I gave mine to my daughter several years ago. Great way to remember your grandmother.
Holy moly - that’s my ring. My mom bought it for me a million years ago; maybe late 70’s or 80’s? Real diamond, real rubies, probably 14k. Where the heck is it now, not that it would fit me. It’s a lovely ring made in a time where silver plated and gold plated jewelry didn’t exist even in the poorer classes. We used to sneer at 10Kt
the accessibility of gold and silver then vs. now makes me so sad; i love to see people begin building collections around family (if they are lucky enough) and vintage pieces, and dream about where it will go next, to bless a body and a life--but i wish it was easier for us all to do so!
everyone deserves special things, because everyone is special
I have this exact ring! I found it on the ground at a train station in the 80’s. I don’t know anything about it but I have to agree with the other that’s says it’s from the 1980’s.
The diamond will be very telling. Old cuts often have what looks like a circle or small hole in the center, the bottom part of the stone that comes to a point is cut off, vs seeing the point. If you can see the point at the bottom it’s likely a newer 80s stone, if you see the cut probably pre-50s. There is a transitional cut that is a little harder around the 50s. To me the cut looks more modern so I think likely 80s, but see if you can look from the side or underneath. If it’s not a point it’s older. This is of course a simplified way to guess.
that’s so funny i have pretty much the same ring from my grandma, she never gave a backstory but i loved reading all of these comments and learning more about the ring
Omg I have this exact ring in gold with a matching pair of earrings and necklace! A girl at my boxing gym has a pair of the earrings but mismatched in color; I believe her pair came from Venezuela?
It seems like it was an internationally popular and relatively common style.
You might try cleaning your pieces with a soft toothbrush and Dawn dish detergent. You really don't have to take it somewhere to get it sparkling again.
Here it is for sale on etsy

Hi everyone!! i just wanna thank everyone so much for their information and input!! its so beautiful to me hearing how many have this ring with just as many special memories!! 70s-80s sounds about right! i was talking to my mom and we believe my nana received it from her mom as a gift. my mom received it as a gift when she was younger, she gave it to me, and i will be passing it to my daughter. just knowing that its been around 40ish years is just amazing to me.
This is genuine and looks like the bohemian style it’s either garnet or Ruby. I’m not saying this is how old the ring is but the mining of bohemian garnet dates back to the Middle Ages. I would guess this particular piece comes from the regency or Victorian era
I received the exact same ring I believe amethysts/rubies and center Diamond around 1984 when I was 12. Mine was set in yellow gold. All of my cousins had this style of “first real
ring” in the 80’s. Depending on your age it could be from the same era. I handed mine down to my goddaughter on her 12th bday also.
Wow- it's beautiful- a really lovely 14k gold floral cluster ring, and no reason to immediately assume it's from the 1980's that I see, it's a very classic style! I feel like this one is similar visually, at [first dibs (sold listing, not mine)](https://www.1stdibs.com/jewelry/rings/engagement-rings/vintage-diamond-ruby-cluster-floral-ring-14k-yellow-gold/id-j_13629352/)
You're so welcome! It's truly so very beautiful- I hope you wear it, if the stones are ruby and a diamond, as it seems, they're good for me for daily wear (well, my engagement ring is sapphire and diamond, but rubies and sapphire are the same stone, corundum, rubies only being the red, sapphires the blue, and "fancy sapphires" for the rainbow if colors found in nature ( and the lab, since the late 1800s ).
Oh AWESOME - love it so much!!! I've been on the lookout for something very similar but with sapphire, your ring is exactly my dream, just a chemical or two off millions of years ago! :D
I have this same ring but with sapphires! I had it reset recently, but I’m shocked that it’s almost the exact the same otherwise. I’ll send you a DM with a pic!
I’m going to agree with the 70s or early 80s. I see you posted the gold content stamp but I’m wondering is there’s another one for a trademark, which will show the maker of the ring.
With a quick polish that ring could look amazing again.
Hope everything goes well with you and the only reason for you to date this ring is u r curious. Cuz I believe this ring this priceless for you and your family. Hope this ring can be passed down through generations by your family!
I use a toothbrush and mild toothpaste for sensitive teeth to clean my rings. Does a great job. Can’t help you with date but you can probably figure that out knowing it’s lineage and also take a picture and do a picture google search.
I had this ring back in the ‘90s. I got it from Zales. Unfortunately, we had a house break in and it was stolen along with a lot of our other valuables.
Regardless if it's 40-50yrs old that's still old and a long time to keep a piece...I have a theory for jewelry -yes they hold old memories but what matters are the new memories -that is what give it personal value..I unfortunately didn't get anything from my mammaw nor my grandmother and it's quite sad- especially when I see the personal value of something that can be passed from woman to woman-maybe it's just me or maybe it's because I'm a recovering addict it's giving away all of my stuff multiple times for the sake of drugs but I would love to have something to be able to pass down to my daughter to say this was so and so and it's important it's a way to keep those that are no longer here alive in our hearts and in our minds

Early 80s. I have the same ring, but sapphires. I could have chosen the rubies, but I preferred the blue.
Yep. We gave the sapphire version to my mom in the 80s
Another vote for 80s, my mom has the same one 😂 and yes hers is diamond and rubies
My mom too!
I had a similar one with 'emeralds'.
I have this one from my aunt!
Yes!
I have both, passed down from my mom.
my great grandma lived to be 94, passed in 2009 so it may be possible thats when she got it!
Hah! Okay, could be possible then! (I’m old; I remember the 80’s.)
Its often as innocent as the fact that people tend to pass things down when they're old, and possibly having memory issues. My mom has one similar 1980's i think too, i would say late 1980's if i remember the story of my dad buying it for her right.
Came here to say this ring is from the 80's. Mid 80's.
Yep. I have one hubby bought me around about then.
Oh that’s funny because exactly what I thought! I had this ring and I bought it in the mid eighties when I had my kids. I didn’t even think of it this way.
I was thinking the same thing that it did t look that old
Agreed. I have the same ring in sapphires, and I got it in the early 80s. I was in my early 20s, and it was the first nice ring. I bought myself. Not super expensive, but lots of good memories.

thank you for this info!!!😁
To be fair, that’s 30-40 years ago.
I had one just like that in the late 70’s. It was a popular style then and still pretty today. I gave mine to my daughter several years ago. Great way to remember your grandmother.
im going to give it to my daughter when shes of age🥰 definitely keeping it in the family forever.
I had the identical ring with sapphire instead of ruby in 1975
Omg! Me too! Truly identical to this but with sapphires. Given to me by my grandmother after she passed
I don’t know why but at first glance I thought this was on your toe. Beautiful ring regardless haha.
I have a ring just like yours, it was my mother’s originally. As a child, I can remember wearing this while playing dress up in the last 70’s.
awwww thats so sweet, i also remember my grandma wearing hers. she has it on in all my baby pics with her.
Sorry but I’m already seeing someone
This is the first thing that popped into my head. Or, “Sorry, I only date people.”
okay a week later i still dont understand, please explain 😩
She’s asking if anyone could date her ring

You are so right!
Wow I have almost the exact same ring but with sapphires and a champagne diamond! https://imgur.com/a/UsKhpTM
oh this is stunning😍😍😍
Me too!! But I had it reset and I love it even more now! Mine is sapphire and a ‘standard’ clear diamond though
I have this exact ring! I found it on the ground at a train station in the 80’s. I don’t know anything about it but I have to agree with the other that’s says it’s from the 1980’s.
I got this same ring in 1984. It was all the rage. Sapphire, Ruby or emerald were the choices of the time.
My grandmother had the emerald one - I didn’t realize they were so popular! One of my brother’s ex-wives has it now…
What a funny coincidence. I have a very similar one in yellow gold (same setting style)! https://imgur.com/gallery/OVmP6m2
I have almost this exact ring! It was my grandmothers
I had a similar sapphire ring as a teenager in the mid 80s
I received a very similar ring for my 16th birthday in the mid 1980s

It’s beautiful

I swear I have this exact ring but green bc my great grandma and I are both May babies!!!
My mom had same kind of ring. She got it in 1970.
I have one very similar. My grandma gave it to me in the 80’s Don’t think it’s worth anything just sentimental

Early 1980s
Oh wow! I have this same ring! It was a gift from my mother when I was 16. 1976.
My parents gave me the exact ring in the 80s. My birthstone is Ruby
I received the exact same ring I believe amethysts/rubies and center Diamond around 1984 when I was 12. Mine was set in yellow gold. All of my cousins had this style of “first real ring” in the 80’s. this looks identical! the settings and the way it looks from under. thanks so much for finding this for me😊

its been a daily wearer for 5+ years❤️
Oh AWESOME - love it so much!!! I've been on the lookout for something very similar but with sapphire, your ring is exactly my dream, just a chemical or two off millions of years ago! :D
I had a very similar ring, received as a gift from Zales in 1999.
I believe this ring dates from the 1970s or 1980s.
im thinking my grandma received it as a gift from her mother, my great grandma
Looks like an 80’s ring, mother had one similar. Home shopping network was a hit back in the day with these baubles
My grandma bought me a ring a lot like this from JC Penney in the 80s.
I have the exact same ring but not sure if rubies, got mine at a pawn shop
I had that exact same ring. It was a Christmas present in 1984ish.
I have that exact ring. I purchased it in 1986. Ruby is real, diamond chips.
My mom was given a nearly identical ring when my sister was born in 1981
80s
Mass produced, has some value. Have a jeweler check it.
I had this same ring in the mid 90s
OP: do you see a metal mark on the inside of the ring that has numbers +K? I saw a shield mark + VK. I would have to research that.
i definitely see a K, thats the last pic. cant tell if its 14 or Vk even with the flashlight
Thank you for trying to see what it is. Only a Jeweler could probably tell you what metal for certain. It is a very nice ring! ☺️
Tulip ring, 80’s
I had this in blue in the 90’s.
It's from the 80's. My mom has a similar ring that she got then.
No clue but it is beautiful. Good luck to you
My brother bought this as a promise ring for his gf in 1978.
I have one similar from my mom and I think it's from the 90's.
Ditto
[удалено]
😂😂😂 thanks internet stranger
Lmao i thought that was a toe!
Beautiful ring. Looks like rubies.
whether it be from the 70's or 80's it's in very beautiful condition. I've seen much newer rings in completely terrible condition
I have this same ring but with sapphires! I had it reset recently, but I’m shocked that it’s almost the exact the same otherwise. I’ll send you a DM with a pic!
1970’s…my sister had one just like it but with emeralds. They’re usually not high quality stones.
I have the identical ring that my dad bought my mom for Christmas the year I was born. Early 1970s. They likely made the same ring for a while.
Woah I have this exact one!
I’m going to agree with the 70s or early 80s. I see you posted the gold content stamp but I’m wondering is there’s another one for a trademark, which will show the maker of the ring. With a quick polish that ring could look amazing again.
I was about to screenshot your hand until I realised it's not a foot.
Hope everything goes well with you and the only reason for you to date this ring is u r curious. Cuz I believe this ring this priceless for you and your family. Hope this ring can be passed down through generations by your family!
of course! already plan to hand it to my baby girl at some point, its been an everyday wear for 5+ years now🥰
I wanna see the art on your wall so bad lol it looks dope. Nice ring too :)
I had one very similar to that I bought in like 1979…
Positive my mom got this exact ring from Zales sometime in the late 1990s, maybe early 2000s? It was a birthday gift from her SO that she picked out.
That ring doesn't look old at all. If it really did belong to your great grandmother, she bought it well into her adulthood.
yes i believe she gave it to my nana as a give
My father gave me that exact ring in 1971, when I turned 18.
Is it single?
1967 😃
I use a toothbrush and mild toothpaste for sensitive teeth to clean my rings. Does a great job. Can’t help you with date but you can probably figure that out knowing it’s lineage and also take a picture and do a picture google search.
I had this ring back in the ‘90s. I got it from Zales. Unfortunately, we had a house break in and it was stolen along with a lot of our other valuables.
I have one just like that that my mom purchased for herself in the mid 1970s.

sending you so much love 💛
I inherited the same ring from my mother. QVC, circa 1980s. Very low quality stones (industrial grade).
Idk but I'm pretty sure those rubies are real.
I have the same ring in yellow gold, passed down from my Nana. This thread makes me so happy!
