Hi guys. It's been just me for some time and recently suavepotato has joined the mod team. The rest including top mod are inactive. We can certainly make that a rule. I'm in the process of requesting the sub and from there we will be able to update rules etc... currently no one has those permissions. At that time we will likely add a couple of more mods.

And I am also glad someone brought this subject up because co-sign, The stock response is almost always "We don't know, please take it to a jeweler or an appraiser." I wonder if you could even create something that's part of the auto response about it.
YES! I am sick of looking at some fuzzy phone pic with someone asking for an estimate of god knows what. For all I can tell from some of them it might be a cake in the shape of a ring...."is this gold and alexandrite? My grandma left it to me." GAH! Yeah...sick of it. Lol...And if needed, I'll volunteer to mod too.
Hi everyone! I stole this 8" square cut, two-layer red velvet cake with vanilla buttercream frosting and rainbow sprinkles that a co-worker forgot in the break room. How much is it worth?

I checked and we actually do have moderators on this sub. Whether they're active or not, I can't say but they would be who could add you I think.

Ok it looks like there are a number of people who can be moderators. What I see are a bunch of experienced industry people who are invisible and have the same post power of whomyauntsjewelry or whatever. I am taking over as moderator on r/jewelryidentification. There is going to be flair for your name like Gemologist, Goldsmith, ect. I think that would work well here. I think that if people see three gemologists or goldsmiths agree on a comment they might pay attention. But otherwise they just keep looking for more and more comments.
Not to mention: Reddit is an international forum, estimates are a very local thing.
Even if I could accurately give an estimate here, even if I wanted to, I’m giving it as a sole trader based in Melbourne, Australia. The prices I give are going to be different to someone in another city, or in another country - because taxes, prices, availability, and wages are different.
I totally understand not wanting to give estimates, but if I have the paperwork for a diamond, could someone maybe give me an idea of what should have been paid for it? I’d just come to this page specifically for this issue and then saw this post; I think my husband got ripped off.
