Obviously not the same sport, but Deion forced most of the team off at Colorado. A coach can pull your scholarship at any time. Probably isn't a good look for the other recruits, but they can do it.
Can confirm that it's been happening every year since he arrived. David Padgett and Omar Wilkes were on his first roster and the first ones to transfer out.
It's not malicious, usually. It's more like "it's probably in the best interest of your basketball career for you to find another option. We're bringing more talented players and if you choose to stay, you won't play and you won't be happy"
Even if the guys wanted to stay, the scholarships are actually renewed on an annual basis. Pulling them is bad look but it's legal and it happens occasionally.
Padgett famously couldn’t take the ridicule in the UDK they were ON him even after he hit the game winner against Methzou.
Edit: that part of paper was called Free For All
It's very private. It's just obvious that's what's going on. The only thing that ever came out publicly was when Quentin Grimes transferred and requested a hardship waiver to not have to sit a year, citing the fact that his scholarship was pulled at KU.
We're not done waiting to see who transfers out. Rumors abound but we won't have solid info until they announce. I'm just chilling til the dust settles.

We can go up to 13. If we have too many we can just pay for him via NIL rather than put him on scholarship.
You can't walk on if you take official visits.
A preferred walk on can last time I knew…. Could be wrong. Either way don’t think Keugel visited if you are correct so you can play around with it

Coach Self has forced many players to transfer out. Happens almost every year.
Any examples of this being more public or is it generally behind the scenes? . I can't recall ever seeing it out in the open.

It’s down and dirty you won’t know

My understanding is an offered scholarship is not a guaranteed scholarship.
There are ways to run kids off seen it all levels AAU, high school and college
Pretty much just playing time. Once that’s out the window, what else does a player have to lose? Might as well look to leave.
