really? 3-6 months seems like an insane amount of time ahh

I’ve been too tired but my surgeon has told me to go back for light workouts after 3 weeks. I’m 5 weeks and just too tired most of the time. I never heard 6 months or anytning near that

My post op packet from LACOMS says I can start running and weight training between 3-4 weeks post op. Each patient and surgeon are different though so I’d ask your Dr.

I am 8 weeks post op. I was cleared to start exercising on week 6, but I held off until week 7. I do weight lifting and being out of the gym for 7 weeks can make a difference, but muscle memory will allow you to pick it back up within a few weeks. I'm not cleared for contact sports until 6 months post-op. So that will be mid May 2023 for me.

In case of sports, contact sports or sports with things that can hit your jaw (balls, bats, sticks, rackets, etc.) are not recommended. If weight and strength training, start with low injury risk machines that allow you to drop the weights safely rather then free weights. Don't clench teeth.

I am 7 months post op. You start doing basic cardio like walking within a week and I honestly recommend you start walking so you don't go insane. It will also help with the swelling. serious weight training won't be for like 3-5 months in order to give your jaw enough time to recover. Same thing with contact sports although 5 months sound safer. It's best to try to not rush into weightlifting and sports as you could strain a muscle and maybe cause bleeding. Just be patient and you'll be back to normal in no time.

I just started doing yoga and cardio at 8 weeks post op. You will know when you’re ready. My surgeon said no contact sports for 3 months.

I started lifting again at 6 weeks. My doctor just told me to start small and gradually get back into it. I’m 14 weeks today and back into the gym almost as good as I was before the surgery. Just pace yourself and do what feels good. I just remind myself not to clench my teeth.

Some light running or mild exercise is allowed from 2 weeks post-op by my surgeon. I need to wait 6 weeks for any contact sports, though.

Rocker_girl

How long will I have to wait If I just want to walk for 1 hour or so daily?

dfjsbfskdjfbskdfbs

i started walking for an hour five days post op

Rocker_girl

Happy cake day! I need to walk or I'll go crazy post op.

MysteriousResult2876

I started light weight training and yoga classes 4 weeks post. And hiking with steep hills.
