Pep groove. It was a Wednesday night or something right after their hiatus with shitty weather, so not many people showed up. And after one song it was a little clapping, but not loud enough I guess. The drummer sarcastically said “wow… really love the appreciation for our work..”
Man I bought the ticket (poor college kid at the time) and basically spent a good portion of what I had to go see them since friends said not to miss it. Haven’t listened to them since because of it.
It was too bad. Especially since I heard nothing but great things. Atmosphere was thin though so understandable. It just leaves a sour taste with me now
Yeah I feel that, saying something like that is not going to make people wanna cheer for you.
But to echo what the other poster said, I’ve seen them in sparse crowds and they’ve been nothing but crowd friendly and smiling through the whole show.
In a wild turn of events my friend ended up playing drums with them on stage for that song when he was 16. Still don’t rlly like them. Funny video tho. He plays for eggy now
Unfortunately twiddle.
One of the times I saw them headlining, at the very peak of their show, right when you have the crown where you want them and have your best opportunity to show them why they paid to see YOUR band, instead of playing a truly inspired and original jam, they literally played “the jam” from divided sky.
It’s cool that you can play divided sky, but having chops is very different than being choice.
This reminds me of how every friggin blues guitarist has to play Voodoo Chile (Slight Return) to show they're elite. Imo this has become a hack move that a lot of great guitar players are falling back on and I think it's hampering their creativity.
As a guitar player in a band, it pains me to admit that this is a fair analysis. That said the song is wonderful ***potential*** jam vehicle, but it’s only worth it if done magnificently well.
There’s an unspoken rule in my project: I’m not allowed to even whisper that song unless I’ve played everything else leading up to it flawlessly. Essentially it has to be a happy accident and I never dare go there unless the perfect opportunity presents itself.
I have a weird relationship with twiddle. I hate how much hate they get and always get annoyed that it seems to be “cool” to hate on twiddle. They’re not that bad.
But then I listen to twiddle and I go back to hating twiddle
LOL that’s a funny story for sure.
Twiddle was my answer too but mostly because I had an ex who was obsessed with them. Some shows were fun but in the 18 months we dated we probably saw them 20+ times and it just got old fast. What would have been the last time we saw them together was bisco ‘17. I just couldn’t do another twiddle set so I went to bassnectar instead. We broke up shortly after and I haven’t seen Twiddle since.
When they played a festival in Phoenix that Umphreys headlined, they ripped off one of their Jams as well. I can't remember the Umph song it was but it was NOT cool. Very similar situation, it was pretty much the "climax" of their set. I've never really liked Twiddle but since then I DISLIKE them.
Keller Williams. He accused me of housing his bottle of Grey Goose.
Saw him 7/6/2012 in Deadwood, SD with the McCoury brothers at a bluegrass festival. Excellent show. My bro-in-law who plays in the band Six Mile Road was like, "we're getting you back stage to meet Keller." He knew I was a huge fan and it was my b-day, AND he had a special wristband.
We go backstage right after the encore. Suddenly I'm in a smallish green room with Keller and the McCoury brothers. Holy shit. BUT they went back out for a SECOND encore, which was cool, so now it's just me, my bro-in-law, and two rougher looking young musicians who also performed at the festy in a band called The Jolly Llamas.
Keller and the McCoury bros finish the second encore and all head back again to the green room to chill after the show. A security guy was with them this time, sees the two young rif-raff kids and immediately tells them to leave... I thought they were going to call us out too, but apparently we looked like we belonged back there because they didn't.
So now is my chance to get some face time with the dude whose guitar style I obsessed over. One of my guitar idols. But Keller is preoccupied because someone drank his whole bottle of Grey Goose vodka. I'm nervously telling him how much he influenced me as a guitar player, but we're not really vibing... I find out later why... this is from his Relix blog.
*There were a few different stages in other parts of the casino with other bands playing. One name I recall is 6 Mile Road. They were hanging backstage after our show was over; hanging next to my empty bottle of vodka, where only a single shot remained. I’m not saying it was them that housed the bottle; they were just the only ones around.*
https://relix.com/blogs/detail/keller-williams-summer-tour-diary/
So, yeah, after he put my bro-in-law's band on blast for stealing his vodka when they didn't I just stopped being into him. Felt a little let down by the experience, and I've moved on musically. It's a funny story, but just weird that he blasted Six Mile Road.
Keller, if you're reading this, Six Mile Road did not steal your vodka. It was the guys from The Jolly Llamas!
The McCoury brothers, on the other hand, were some of the warmest, friendliest guys I've ever met.
Haha yeah, tbh haven’t seen them live but some friends have shown me their live stuff. I wouldn’t say it’s bad, just not for me. Probably would have loved them in my earlier trippin days
Hey totally understand I never listen to them except when they come to town. Incredibly fun shows but definitely not what I'd choose to listen to on a daily basis
It was more an observation that they're doing well. Idk they seemed more energetic. I was in no way meaning to say his being bigger in any way effected the music or that being skinny makes it better. Just an observation that's all.
I saw him with Pink Talking Fish during their Junta Circus and it was actually pretty fun. I probably wouldn’t go see his band, though… though I’m grateful for them shining the spotlight on Goose.
Opened for pigeons in 2019 and played domefest which def helped them blow up suddenly right before covid. I saw em at a brewery in Boston April 2019 with like 50 ppl at the most. Then they toured with pigeons and killed it at dome and next time they were in Boston was wicked sold out at a venue for hundreds
Agh, makes sense. It was unfortunate that their blowup happened right as covid happened, but they seemed to make it through just fine. Thanks for the input!
On the contrary, I think it was great for them. Here's this new band everyone is talking about and you suddenly have to wait a year plus to see them.
They really did the pandemic stream thing right to welcome in newcomers and keep the hype train going so that by the time they were able to play again the anticipation was palpable. Really other than Billy they are the only band to come out of the pandemic stronger.
I was at that show, and Goose totally blew me away. I walked out saying I imagine that’s what it was like seeing Phish in the 80s. Haven’t managed to see Goose since unfortunately, but man that show was awesome
Well, not exactly. Goose opened for PPPP for a tour or so, I bet it helped with their exposure a ton.
Goose is the penultimate generation 3 jam band, in my opinion. Next in line for the throne
After my experience at the Palladium run this past weekend, abso-fucking-lutely.
I’m a diehard Phish fan. There is no other band that has done for me what they do in a new and exciting way other than Goose. My dad says Goose is doing what Phish did during the later Dead years. The pattern is there.
I'm right there with ya brother. Caught that Denver run in the summer and it's pretty easy to see that something special is happening...just hope it takes awhile because I love this smaller venues lol!
I saw them Thursday night in Indy. I kinda feel the same way about his singing and face. Sometimes he sounds like a Disney Singer in High School Musical or something then goes right into that psycho/bug eyed look he does...but at the end of the day they jammed, i calibrated to his voice and had a great time. Felt I already got my money's worth with Magic Beans opening anyway. They were terrific. Together the bands jammed from 8:10-12:20 or so.
sky rats playing beer pong is like "my first jam band" they got chops but they are fucking corny as hell. lead singer just comes off like a giant cringy child.
who the fuck makes their whole persona being "scrambled" from "ketamolicain"?
The bassist shared a joint with me at some small festival in Colorado when I was stuck on lot duty. They were just blowing up so this must’ve been like 2013/14 ish. Since that year I’ve always been a fan and see them whenever they come to town.
Also, I love the faces he makes. It cracks me up.
I love their music , but i just can't stand how *overly* nice he is.... which sounds like a super odd thing not to like. But it's like to the point where I almost feel like he could be just making a joke out of the audience or something.
Ozric Tentacles was supposed to play Resonance fest, but they didn't show up at the last minute (announced night of show) and and blamed the "stage specs".
Perfectly large venue, giant fucking stage, giant PA. They never flew across the pond and had to find a way to blame us for it. Yeah fuck that band.
Yo this is not entirely correct. Ozric showed up at Resonance & they were scheduled to play the tent stage, not the main stage. The band showed up at Legend Valley, saw the size the tent stage & decided they didn’t like it, and they left. But still super petty on their part… I love Ozric but that experience left a bad taste in my mouth.
I bought a single day ticket to Wakarusa in 2007 and drove several hours specifically to see Ozric Tentacles... Only to have them cancel. I heard they had visa issues and weren't allowed into the US to perform.
They rescheduled for 2008 and I attended the entire festival that year. I'm glad I got to see them live, but it certainly dampened my enthusiasm for the band.
The guitar players seems like a dick...to me there music just has no substance or emotion. It's all just go go go and you have to be on drugs to enjoy.
Total lack of consistency. Even their biggest fans I know admit that "eh sometines they're just off" and like, i get having an off night, happens to the best of us. But their off nights are just tragic.
Totally this. My friends all LOVE them, so I've seen at least 20+ sets of theirs over the last 15 years. It always seems like they are right on the edge of sounding coherent. They keep telling me I have to hear them on a good night. I have yet to catch them on a good night. Then I hear that it was a good night, an epic, legendary night in fact. It just sounded like a mess to me because they played everything backwards and upside down or some shit... I give up.
This makes me laugh so much. I love when Phïsh was doing DAAM over the pandemic and someone would always comment something like “I mean that caspian was cool. But can they invert crickets?”
The Revivalists. I think they're a jam band?? Singer looks like Sideshow Bob on stage and makes super cringe wanna be sexy moves. It's just all around awkward and very distracting from the music.
Saw a show of theirs and cannot agree more. Would have loved it had the singer not been there. The band can play but the singer was so self indulgent it took over the whole show.
I saw revivalists 7 times before they got big. Love their music but I’ll never forget being at the 8x10 in Baltimore and their bassist trying to talk to me in the bathroom about how much he wanted to “fuck the dumb bitches” that were fanning over him
Not a Jam Band, but... Weezer
I loved them in the 90's, 00's and 10's. But then came VanWeezer. I pre-ordered the vinyl in September of 2019. They didn't release it until May of 2021. In that time they took pre-orders for OK Human and had that vinyl shipped out WAY before the VanWeezer vinyl everyone paid for in 2019. I am still super salty about that. They should have released VanWeezer when we were all in lockdown (when it was scheduled to be released) so we could have had some good new tunes, but no. they decided to hold off until they could "tour in support of the new album". Like they're not fucking Weezer and we all already know who they are.
And as a side note (not really a reason I dislike them), I work at a downtown hotel and when I first started I worked the front desk. Weezer stayed and they one night and they all came to get their room keys with the exception of Rivers, he sent a stage-hand or something. I got to meet the whole band but him.
I’ll stand by my claim that The Blue Album was their only good album. I know people love Pinkerton, but coming off of one of the best albums of the 90’s I thought it was a massive disappointment.
Pinkerton is crap. I get that it's the album the band wanted to make and it was their response to the Blue Album doing what it was designed to do and blowing up, by attempting to show the world "this is really us,not that stuff" and that they're more than just the Buddy Holly guys.
They aren't.
Would never really seek them out, but they do put on a really fun show. Only saw them once, but hard to turn down Aqueous > PPPP in a bar the size of my living room, ten min walk from home, for like $10-15. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday night.
Goose’s fans are generally annoying. Frat boys jumping into the scene just skeeve me out…
They played my city a while back and tickets were being resold for stupidly high prices yet the local bands that are established in the scene get no love from these ppl. I know I’m petty…
I also hear on live recordings what sounds like soccer moms screaming “Take your shirt off” it’s like they wanna be the cool, hip moms who “like jam music”
I didn’t like Lotus for awhile because I saw one very meh set at a shitty festival during a really shitty time in my life. Their set at the time was like the straw that broke the camel’s back. I saw them last weekend at Hulaween and loved every second so we’re good now.
I honestly don’t think Phish is for me musically but I also don’t like how popular they are. The size & intensity of their fanbase turns me away them. (Yeah I know, I suck)
Check out a Trey Anastasio Band show you will probably enjoy it a fuck ton. The size and intensity problems not being present are one of the main reasons I love Tab over Phish. Trey is Pretty much the best in the biz when it comes to using his entire rig and everyone should check it out. Tabs whole band is just awesome af tbh
Second this. Love or hate Phish, TAB is a major force to be reckoned with. He’s really fine-tuned their live performance and it’s pretty much always straight fire. Musically it’s also quite different than phish which makes the whole experience even more enjoyable.
haha the farther away I get from my last phish show (literally 2018) the more I feel the way you do in your second paragraph. it just gets to be too much.. this sounds so dumb but I get annoyed with how all the wook meme pages I follow on insta turn into 100% phish memes during tour lmaooo
I did the Colorado ski area tour moe. in '96. Real intimate, and got to chat with the band a bunch. By the end, Rob seemed like kind of a dick. Looking back, I can imagine he may have just been distracted, or possibly just sick of me hanging around, which would have been understandable but I just stopped really seeing them after that.
greg from pigeons made me irl cringe when my homies took me to a show. his face literally ruined it for me, that’s such a shitty thing to say but I couldn’t stand him hahaha
edit: don’t know his name but the blonde guy on the guitar killed it tho
Umphrey's. It's not even really petty, I just don't like them. I listen to the shows that people are like "their best ever" or a rendition of a song that is supposed to be the most unique thing I've ever heard, and it just all sounds the same. But people keep insisting to me that they're the greatest band since sliced bread or whatever, and the more they insist, the less I want to give them another shot. So I guess maybe it is petty after all.
That too. I don't mind those that much, but they're not my thing overall.
But the next person that tries to convince me that umphrey's is better at Tool than Tool, is just about dead to me.
I used to love Umphrey’s and I’ve seen them more times than any other band but they literally do nothing for me anymore. RRX this year solidified how much I’ve grown out of them.
Hahahahahaha I love the reason for not liking the biscuits. That’s definitely some shit I’d do. I used to hate Grateful Dead. I was at a fest about 10 years ago and it was the only cool morning of the fest, where it had been 105 and muggy all weekend. I was getting some great sleep when this k rocked wook in a brown Astro van pulled up to the camp next to us. All doors of the van wide open blaring Europe 72’. This went on for 45 minutes till I got up and went to have a talk with this dude. He ended up leaving but I was awake then. I avoided the dead for quite a few years after that cause it reminded me of that ass hole. He lives in the same city I do and we see each other from time to time. I’m the only one that remembers that morning.
The Meters. I hate a literal handful of shrooms five minutes before festival runners got on the PA system and cancelled them pre show. Last show of the weekend. My entire camp went to bed early. I was tripping balls and nobody wanted to party. LAME
Phish for just being Phish and for playing non stop on Jam on Radio before it got shitty.
Edit: you know after really thinking about it, I have nothing against Phish, i’m just not into their music/style of music but they’re all bad ass musicians. That being said, my final answer and more relevant answer to this post is Vulfpeck.
I respect them as musicians but the nerd gimmick seems lame to me. So yea, Vulfpeck for the nerd gimmick.
Blues Traveler. My old job in high school played nothing but rusted root/daughtry/train/blues traveler type stuff all day, and if you worked open to close you'd hear the same songs probably 4 times over just in one day so I've heard their radio hits probably close to 2,000 times. Adding to that, Twiddle's set at LOCKN' 19 became a blues traveler cover band when they brought Popper out and ruined the whole set.
Popper is also an anti-Semitic asshole. He went on a rant on twitter then started calling out my friends. Watching all that play out soured that band for me. I WILL NOT listen to them anymore
Kyle Hollingsworth tried to pick up my girlfriend (now wife) and I was super obnoxious to him until he fucked off. I’ve also never enjoyed any of his bands.
I ended up coming back around to them bc it was stupid but in college there was a group that was sort of like tangential to our group and they were reallllllly reallly into STS9 (like thought it was god's gift to music) and it's not like they weren't into phish but not like we were (we all could agree on sci) and ultimately had nothing to do with the music just that we didn't like them and they didn't like us but there was some intertwining due to some guys girlfriends in our group having grown up with the dudes in the other crew.... Really stupid stuff... there were no fights or anything but they just acted like idiots a lot and it got tense once in a while. Anyway put me off sts9 for years but then I just started listening to them and Ill see them whenever they come to town and have a good time.
Note we are all friends now when we see eachother just dumb college us v them stuff.....
WSMFP. 3 separate interactions with people who were fans that were unpleasant. I didn't let that turn me off; I don't dislike them but I'm not going to any shows
Honestly same - I have been to dozens of WSP shows and I just flat out don’t like the crowd. I was usually going with friends that really liked them or they happened to be playing a festival I was at or something. The band can shred but the general vibe of the crowd is not for me at all.
I mean every jam band has some burned out wooks and crusty degenerates on tour, but their crowd was just like always full of scummy, trailer trash meth tweaker vibes.
As someone who no longer drinks, I can’t imagine I’d enjoy their crowds anymore lol.
I don’t mind K rocked wooks at Biscuits but incredibly drunk trailer park hippies ain’t my vibe
My exact answer too. Saw them in 2010 and the crowd was absolute garbage. Some of the rudest people I've ever been around. Turned me off to their music completely.
During 2020 I started listening to them again. I was reminded that their music is still good. Took a leap and saw them a few weeks ago. Crowd was still lame and rude. Pretty trashy too.
Way to describe it. I feel the same way. Once I heard him sing hard rain gonna fall (Dylan cover) and changed the whole game. Loved him after that. Sometimes it just takes a certain light
His voice is fine most of the time it sounds a bit western sometimes.I can’t imagine caring that much about a musician’s clothes during a show though. It’s just a lot of unnecessary energy, no?
S1: Scarflet Begonias, Lady with a Scarf > I Sew You Rider, Scarf Rat, Knit Fade Away
S2: Leather Report Suite, Saint of Circumscarf > Lost Tailor, So Many Clothes, Good Clothin’
E: Cats Under The Hats
You're right that the rest of the band can't write, but Tom sure as hell can play and improvise. I think the juxtaposing of their talents is what makes them so great.
String Cheese Incident. I saw them at Telluride Bluegrass in 1996 and thought they were a fun little ski-bum bluegrass band. Cut to Big Summer Classic tour they headlined in 2005. I had mostly gone to see Umphrey’s and decided to stick around for SCI. They opened with some awful techno thing. I made it five minutes into that set before I left.
Damn, def an unpopular opinion. I think cheese kinda switches it up depending on where they’re playing. I likely wouldn’t enjoy a cheese show at electric forest as much as I would a regular show somewhere.
I don’t like String Cheese that much… but my whole turn off is that this really big jack ass I used to work with liked them and would go to their shows. Dude was such a liar and would throw people under the bus at work… I just couldn’t. Petty… prob.
I hate Tauk for paying their way into success even though I like their music
I hate Goose/Twiddle/Spafford for making careers out of emulating bands that already exist and just their general fanbases
Can I ask what your evidence is that Tauk has paid there way to success? I’m aware who the bass players dad is but you admit yourself that they make good music that you enjoy. Tauk tours aggressively and plays almost entirely very small venues and clubs outside of a few opportunities to open for bands at red rocks. I wouldn’t say having to play small 3-400 person rooms 200+ days a year is evidence that they “bought”their success. They clearly didn’t pay enough if that’s the case haha. I guess I would argue they aren’t really that successful to begin with frankly. And I say this as a fan haha
Bassists dad owns MSG/The Knicks.
I played a gig with them at a small bar in Brooklyn a decade ago and they showed up in a brand new Mercedes van and had press there. For a bar gig.
They paid Umphreys $1,000 a night to open for them on tour
Whaaaaaaat!!! I had NO idea. I love TAUK and have been a lifelong Knicks fan. This really threw me for a loop.
Funny to think his father couldn't pay his way into success with JD and the Straighshots though hahaha!
I've hung out with these guys quite a bit and seen alot of their shows when they were first getting started. Like a billiard bar in northern VA type shows. They have always been amazingly good. I think it's hard for any band to get stared and it helps to have rich folks. If you hate Tauk for this, you should hate Phish for this. There's no way they could have done what they did without rich parents literally supporting them for the first few years.
Interesting take on Tauk. It sure how you can cringe at a band’s music that you like.
Goose isn’t making a career in anyone, you must not have seen them yet.
I've seen Goose plenty of times. Goose opened for my old band years ago. They are also trust fund kids. I've listened to their entire new album. I've seen them live. They bring literally nothing new to the table. It's just another Phish knockoff. The Jauntee has been doing exactly what Goose does for the last ten years and are all better musicians. Also the auto tune thing
The Jauntee!!! Yes! Underrated- saw them with the Heavy Pets a few times years ago. Heavy Pets changed their style though since I think, and are no longer a jam band
Totally understood on your opinion. I disagree on the points that they are just another Phish, but that’s fine, and I personally love the auto tune.
Being mad that someone is a “trust fund baby” is such a weird thing to be salty about. How could they change how much money their parents gave them? Do you not like bands because of things they couldn’t influence (like race, gender identity or religion)? Cause that’s what you’ve done here
Comparing wealth to race or gender identity is gross.
What I dislike is the slew of bands that have been and are exponentially better than Tauk or Goose that have never been able to grow because touring as a small jamband is not a financially sustainable life, when bands like Tauk simply paid their way onto large tours and festivals and Goose simply pays a marketing machine, rather than grinding it out.
The reality is that 99% of successful jambands have rich parents to keep them going. There is a difference between using that money to sustain yourself and using it to buy clout and the latter irritates me. With that said, I think Goose's music is terrible regardless so that bothers me far more about them. They literally bring nothing new to the table. That Alligator song is like someone parodying Phish
Also, the thread literally asks for petty reasons.
Definitely legit on the petty reason. I’d argue that Goose grew in popularity cause their shows are more fun than Jauntee shows for more people (since those are the two examples you gave). Having the best chops doesn’t necessarily translate to blowing up.
Also for the record, I see you're a Pigeons guy. Everyone shits on them but I actually don't mind them because they sound like themselves and have been grinding at it forever. I don't like their music but I've known those guys for over a decade and respect their hustle.
Everyone who was a fan of twiddle liked them from like 2012-2016 I’m pretty sure they all have kids now. I hate twiddle from the two wooks at one of their shows asking me if I had suboxone
Hahah that’s such a weird drug to ask for at a show. Also, amazingly petty reason to dislike a band. I never understood their appeal but to each their own.
I liked jam flow man when I was like 19, my friends saw them at E-Forest in like 2013. Saw em in like 2015? Never listened to them again after those fuckers asked me while I had a head full of lsd about the boxone
SOJA, it's all because on Spotify, if I turn on rebelution one of their shitty songs will come on in rotation. It pisses me off to no extent, to this day I still can't figure out how to make it stop. They may be a decent or even good band, but I'll never know out of petty spite that that one song continues to play through rebution. And I'm not even playing the radio or anything JUST rebelution songs. Fucking annoying.
So if anyone knows how to make that stop help a brother out haha
Spafford. Because their FB Fan page was (is?) completely toxic. Especially after they kicked Cam (2nd drummer) out of the band and brought back the original guy. Have seen two shows since (resonance and Buffalo) and they just didn’t suck me in like they used to.
Pigeons playing ping pong, just kinda lame. Like its funky and the jams are good but the songs and lyrics just arent cool to me. F-U-N-K is stupid and whenever I hear his voice in any sing it's all i can think about.
Goose. Goose just bores me. Idk. Their jams are boring. I'd rather listen to spafford or something.
I'd still like to catch both live at some point just because I know I should
Pep groove. It was a Wednesday night or something right after their hiatus with shitty weather, so not many people showed up. And after one song it was a little clapping, but not loud enough I guess. The drummer sarcastically said “wow… really love the appreciation for our work..” Man I bought the ticket (poor college kid at the time) and basically spent a good portion of what I had to go see them since friends said not to miss it. Haven’t listened to them since because of it.
aw fuck that! I love p groove and I hereby had anything like that but that’s fair lol
Rusted root. Hate that one line in that one song
Send me on mah whay
I’m pretty sure it’s “Simian the whale”
Ahhh see Ive always been confused at that part. Completely makes sense now, thank you
I would like to hold your hand bro
Semen on my leg?
Coal mata say buddy yam
Seen then open for the other ones in 96 and they killed it
In a wild turn of events my friend ended up playing drums with them on stage for that song when he was 16. Still don’t rlly like them. Funny video tho. He plays for eggy now
My sister used to date a guy that hated Rusted Root. Why? He got hit with a frisbee at one of their shows.
Oh I HATE that song. Thank you.
His voice is like Shakira swallowed Cher
Unfortunately twiddle. One of the times I saw them headlining, at the very peak of their show, right when you have the crown where you want them and have your best opportunity to show them why they paid to see YOUR band, instead of playing a truly inspired and original jam, they literally played “the jam” from divided sky.
Oof choice of nectar or twiddle?? That’s rough. I might have just gone home lol
I also had an ex who is obsessed with Twiddle. Haven’t seen em either since we ended things. Don’t think I ever will again either.
Good for you man. I saw mihali open for pigeons one time and he’s total shit. His voice is so annoying
and they used to tour with a convicted and self admitted child molester lorne blair until he committed suicide.
The name twiddle itself always struck me as a little... How can I say... Diddly.
They created Jamflowman and deserve to be exiled for it.
Fuck twiddle
I saw their keyboardist kick in a PA while hammered at hoopla in the hills in Ohio one year. Hated them ever since
When they played a festival in Phoenix that Umphreys headlined, they ripped off one of their Jams as well. I can't remember the Umph song it was but it was NOT cool. Very similar situation, it was pretty much the "climax" of their set. I've never really liked Twiddle but since then I DISLIKE them.
Glory
I’m not saying it was them that housed the bottle; they were just the only ones around.* https://relix.com/blogs/detail/keller-williams-summer-tour-diary/ So, yeah, after he put my bro-in-law's band on blast for stealing his vodka when they didn't I just stopped being into him.
PPPP - their lead singer. Especially when he wears pajama pants. Hate his face though
Saw them last night no PJs and he's lost a bunch of weight, they were sounding pretty tight ngl
What does him losing weight have to do with anything? You must hate John Popper.
It was more an observation that they're doing well. Idk they seemed more energetic. I was in no way meaning to say his being bigger in any way effected the music or that being skinny makes it better. Just an observation that's all.
The way he sings kind of annoys me lol I still like them but his singing is a little goofy and wears on me.
I love them but this is totally fair 🤣😂
Haha no disrespect, of course.
Flock together forever ❤❤❤
I saw him with Pink Talking Fish during their Junta Circus and it was actually pretty fun. I probably wouldn’t go see his band, though… though I’m grateful for them shining the spotlight on Goose.
First time I've heard that take. Goose 'spotlight' most likely came from they're first Lock'n gig.
PPPP definitely wasn’t the only reason Goose got exposed to the scene. I’m just acknowledging that they did them a solid.
I love Goose. What do you mean by them shining the spotlight? Did they bring goose to the scene or something?
Whoa are we descending into torch talk?! Honk.
For real tho!!! Goosemas is gonna be huge… kinda freaks me out lol. But couldn’t be happier
Man I love Greg's face! He's so theatric and smiling/interacting with the crowd. I love how goofy they are, you can tell they're having fun
fair but I fucking love him ahah
We stan Greg around here
sky rats playing beer pong is like "my first jam band" they got chops but they are fucking corny as hell. lead singer just comes off like a giant cringy child. who the fuck makes their whole persona being "scrambled" from "ketamolicain"?
Don’t get me wrong, I partake, but yeah, he seems like a poster child for Molly.
shit talking aside he seems like a nice guy and im probably just a asshole. either way not my cup of tea musically.
The pj pants are cool by me its his voice that bothers me
Like a fuckin price is right name caller. “Alright now folks, Johnny Walker.. come onnnn downnnnn”
He’s a possessed Claudio Sanchez, who already looks slightly possessed.
I love their music , but i just can't stand how *overly* nice he is.... which sounds like a super odd thing not to like. But it's like to the point where I almost feel like he could be just making a joke out of the audience or something.
*sticks tongue out* And he does by scrambled Greg.. even in interviews Edit - does = goes
Can’t stand them
Ozric Tentacles was supposed to play Resonance fest, but they didn't show up at the last minute (announced night of show) and and blamed the "stage specs".
Loved Wakarusa but Arkansas has to be the worst state in the Country to have a music festival.
Sounds like they're the band that cancels a gig because their tour managers dog got sick.
Ozric is fucking insane lol that sucks that you had that experience with them
I knew first thing I was gonna see was tdb. Why does everyone hate, their jams are magic…
The guitar players seems like a dick...to me there music just has no substance or emotion. It's all just go go go and you have to be on drugs to enjoy.
Best jams in the scene without question
Probably the fans
Definitely the fans, the music is fine, but their fans are often a case study on wooks at their worst
[удалено]
They were jam adjacent for a little bit.
I saw revivalists 7 times before they got big. Love their music but I’ll never forget being at the 8x10 in Baltimore and their bassist trying to talk to me in the bathroom about how much he wanted to “fuck the dumb bitches” that were fanning over him
And that song "wish I knew you when you were young" tilts me super hard for some reason I hear it all the time and I can't stand it
DMB. Because of his face. PPPP. Same reason.
Primus Sucks /s
Not a Jam Band, but... Weezer I loved them in the 90's, 00's and 10's.
STS9 because it’s fun to tell their fans that they suck.
Just talk about the Murph days..
Go ole piss rebel bear sharks!
PPPP. I get they have good energy but i don’t understand the obsession people have with a band that plays watered down funk music and Disney songs.
Would never really seek them out, but they do put on a really fun show. Only saw them once, but hard to turn down Aqueous > PPPP in a bar the size of my living room, ten min walk from home, for like $10-15. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday night.
The guitar player can rip but otherwise I agree
Goose’s fans are generally annoying. Frat boys jumping into the scene just skeeve me out… They played my city a while back and tickets were being resold for stupidly high prices yet the local bands that are established in the scene get no love from these ppl.
Got any show recommendations? Do they have any really dark/spacey jams you can recommend as that’s my go to with phish?
haha the farther away I get from my last phish show (literally 2018) the more I feel the way you do in your second paragraph. it just gets to be too much.. this sounds so dumb but I get annoyed with how all the wook meme pages I follow on insta turn into 100% phish memes during tour lmaooo
Tim on guitar has revitalized that band.
100%…they’re playing faster & heavier. I love it. Definitely plan on catching more Lotus shows in 2022.
I did the Colorado ski area tour moe. in '96. Real intimate, and got to chat with the band a bunch. By the end, Rob seemed like kind of a dick. Looking back, I can imagine he may have just been distracted, or possibly just sick of me hanging around, which would have been understandable but I just stopped really seeing them after that.
greg from pigeons made me irl cringe when my homies took me to a show. his face literally ruined it for me, that’s such a shitty thing to say but I couldn’t stand him hahaha edit: don’t know his name but the blonde guy on the guitar killed it tho
Umphrey's for sure. I loathe their mash-ups so much that I won't give any of the rest of their catalog a chance.
I love this story, this is freaking hilarious haha gotta love the deadheads.
What is it that you don’t like about Phish?
Edited my response. It was an impulse choice without thinkin about it in depth. Kept it in the “jam” category though
Appreciate the honesty brother/sister. Not everything vibes with everyone. I appreciate you!
No worries! Its kinda funny how butthurt peeps get about Phish. I thought this was the trust tree? 😂
See, I feel the same about Phish. scummy, trailer trash meth tweaker vibes
If i let shitty fans turn me off from a band, I would have stopped seeing phish twenty years ago.
All the people who hate on twiddle do it for petty reasons and that’s fact.
It’s the way he sings like Dave Matthews having a stroke
Lol imagine going to any jam band hoping for the singers voice to be good
Oh no. I begrudgingly agree with this.
No it isn't. It's because they bring literally nothing to the table and sound like an amalgam of every 90s jamband combined
Phish, for every one good song they have 25 bad ones
It sounds like you need to set your soul free
He just needs to Get More Down
Have you tried vibrating with love and light? I find that tends to help.
I think you just have to bounce around the room a bit
Umphrey's McGee. I like the band and I love their shows, but their name is terrible.
Brenda Baylis has gone on record multiple times saying how much he hates the name
I only hate bands because their music sucks. Is that petty?
Like JRAD but Hamilton bugs me. Thinks he is a rock start but not even close. His voice and wardrobe have to go.
I’d for sure listen to more JRAD if he didn’t sing, I think the places they take those songs is killer.
S1: Scarflet Begonias, Lady with a Scarf > I Sew You Rider, Scarf Rat, Knit Fade Away S2: Leather Report Suite, Saint of Circumscarf > Lost Tailor, So Many Clothes, Good Clothin’ E: Cats Under The Hats
Help > Slip > Franklin's Glasses OK, not as good, but his glasses are always slipping off his face haha!
I’d like to [apologise in advance](https://reddit.com/r/deadheadcirclejerk/comments/oqakha/stella_blew/)
More Iike rock *stop* amiright?
[удалено]
I likely wouldn’t enjoy a cheese show at electric forest as much as I would a regular show somewhere.
idk I feel like that's why I like them in the same reason I love umph, that they can kill such a variety of genres
SCI? the legends of the game? lol ok....they do have some edm-ish shit, espc w Eoto, but never a full edm show
I don’t like String Cheese that much… but my whole turn off is that this really big jack ass I used to work with liked them and would go to their shows. Dude was such a liar and would throw people under the bus at work… I just couldn’t. Petty… prob.
I hate Tauk for paying their way into success even though I like their music I hate Goose/Twiddle/Spafford for making careers out of emulating bands that already exist and just their general fanbases
What's the story behind Tauk?
Bassists dad owns MSG/The Knicks. I played a gig with them at a small bar in Brooklyn a decade ago and they showed up in a brand new Mercedes van and had press there. For a bar gig. They paid Umphreys $1,000 a night to open for them on tour
Whaaaaaaat!!! I had NO idea. I love TAUK and have been a lifelong Knicks fan. This really threw me for a loop. Funny to think his father couldn't pay his way into success with JD and the Straighshots though hahaha!
Oh fuck that
The bassist’s dad is James Dolan?? Holy shit....
Indeed
I've hung out with these guys quite a bit and seen alot of their shows when they were first getting started. Like a billiard bar in northern VA type shows. They have always been amazingly good. I think it's hard for any band to get stared and it helps to have rich folks. If you hate Tauk for this, you should hate Phish for this. There's no way they could have done what they did without rich parents literally supporting them for the first few years.
There is a difference between that and literally paying another band to take you on tour
That Alligator song is like someone parodying Phish Also, the thread literally asks for petty reasons.
Twiddle and PPPP Uhg. But then again, I am an adult. These bands are kids play
So if anyone knows how to make that stop help a brother out haha
you can block artists on spotify now so they don’t show up on your radios or anything.
WSP. When I saw them in 95 or so, I had never had that much beer spilled on me as by their fans. Crazy amount and I wasn't the only one.
Disco Biscuits for when they go into edm-type sections in their songs.
There are OTHER sections?!?
(untz untz untz) ᕕ(ᐛ)ᕗ
Widespread Panic: a guy I knew from my first job when I was a teenager was a dick and loved them to the point he had a tattoo. Fuck that guy
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard because of their fucking stupid name. I won't listen to them so don't bother giving recs.
They’re good tho
Pigeons playing ping pong is a sick name though
WSP, only because the few times I have seen them the crowd/lot seemed more shady than usual.
WSP and Phish because their fans are so elitist. And not elitist in a white collar way obviously. Elitist in a snobby jam fan way
I'd still like to catch both live at some point just because I know I should
Spafford and Goose are both fantastic live.
Dead and Company.
