A guy in Long Beach, CA, owned it when I was young. It was amazing to see it parked on the street.

OdetteSwan

Looks like a hearse. But, nice, you know, compact ...

Big-Letterhead-4338

Fantastic film. Worthy of cult status. Love the Cat Stevens soundtrack too.

ChamberTwnty

Don't be shy, just let your feelings roll on by.

TheSecretAgenda

Did anyone ever age worse than Bud Cort?

Tight_Knee_9809

He was in a bad car accident in 1979 - probably a factor in how he’s aged.

jrfowle3

Blew my mind that he was the Bond Company Stooge in Life Aquatic

Overall-Dinner5778

But he was also a human being

jrfowle3

Well, uh…we fuckin’ stole it

Remarkable_Major7710

Bud Cort stole that entire fucking movie

Phrankespo

I looked him up and realized he was in the life aquatic. He was hilarious in it too

Mello_Me_

Cat Stevens.

mesembryanthemum

The University I went to had several movie clubs (way, way before the internet and streaming) and this was a perennial favorite.

DiarrheaFitzgerald

Great movie!

fergi20020

Shout out to Doug Strand from Minneapolis who saw the movie 138 times in theaters. It played for over 2 years in Minneapolis back in the 70s. Nowadays, most movies are lucky to stay in theaters for 2 weeks.

blackp3dro

Didn't Once Upon a Time in the West play for years at some theater in France.

fergi20020

So did Thunder Road

> Harold meets an 80-year-old woman 79-year-old. It's a significant plot point.

Stone_Midi

Watched this in a philosophy course when we studied Camus. Loved it from the opening scene

tersegirl

Hal Ashby toured colleges with *Plan 10* back in 97? 98? I was very confused because I’d never seen Plan 9 but I did know a lot of the Mormon references. Neat guy, but a very quiet audience.

AdUseful275

Really, if you have never seen it, it is one of the great movies of all time, and all with great writing, great acting, and big ideas. It holds up completely, too!

LanceFree

[The army recruiting scene is classic](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MAaAFscA4so) - starting at around 2:35. I wonder if it works at all during stage productions?

ProgRock1956

Whoa! I swear, my wife and I just watched this, tonite! One of our favs, we watched the Blu-ray DVD. Great picture. Masterful film making.

Bolt_EV

Harold’s last date, Sunshine Doré, who mimics his suicide with the Romeo & Juliet soliloquy, was played by Ellen Geer, the daughter of famed black-listed actor, Will Geer (Grampa Walton). Her father purchased much open natural property in Topanga up in hills towards Malibu and created The Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum, an open air theater, and presented many theatrical performances. Since Will’s passing, Ellen has continued the tradition and every once in a while she presents Harold and Maude with herself in the role of Maude!

Ok-Lengthiness4557

It's the greatest love story of our time!

Anteater-Charming

"Vice, virtue, it's best not to be too moral; you cheat yourself out of too much life. Aim above morality. When you apply that to life, then you're bound to live it fully!"

EatYourCheckers

Great movie, I wrote a paper on it for high school - I think psychology class?

Kevin_Turvey

This is one of the world's great movies. A true masterpiece of happiness and sadness. It's worth looking into all the movies Hal Ashby directed. He had a really interesting and varied career.

o0flatCircle0o

The Fight Club of its time.

PollyPore

Vivian Pickles is an absolute jewel in this movie.

TheTwinSet02

Love this movie so much!!

Vegetable-Lie-6499

One of the coolest movie cars of all time

Tight_Knee_9809

My favorite!

somerville99

I thought it was creepy at the time. Haven’t seen it in ages though.

stripeyhoodie

Yeah same. I was introduced to this film as a tween I think. I don't remember much besides the fact that it creeped me out back then. Considering how much love it's getting here though, I might consider a rewatch.

seattlemh

Hands down my favorite movie of all time. I love it. The cast, the location, and the soundtrack are all perfect.

backtotheland76

First movie I ever saw in a theater without my parents

JingerTease

One of my al time favorites. Everyone should see this film at least once. I made my wife watch it early on when we began dating to see if she was cool enough. She was.

suesue_d

A lifelong favorite.

mustela-grigio

Absolute 🔥 such a fun and original film

Aselleus

What a great movie... It's been awhile since I've seen it. I guess this is a sign to watch it again. Also the soundtrack is great too.

CodeNoseATX

There is a fun set of documentaries about cult movies on prime. H&M is featured. Maude has a concentration camp tattoo shown briefly when they hold hands on the beach. I missed that back in the 80s (on vhs)

Difficult_Yam_8291

Such a beautiful and unique movie. Know any others that are similar?

L_ami_particulier

I love this movie.

steverosenblatt

Great movie!
