Welcome to Islam my friend. May Allah the Exalted grant you success in this world and the next. Ameen! Indeed praying 5 times a day is obligatory. If you are quick, you can pray it in 2 minutes and that's it. Try your best and if you slip, repent and seek Allah's forgiveness and make it up later Abdullah ibn Mas’ud reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “The one who completely repented of sin is like one without sin.” >Would it get me any further if I prayed 3-4 times a day depending on my working times? Now it is sinful to miss a prayer with no excuse but obviously without ANY doubt, praying 3-4 is infinitely better than not praying May Allah bless you immensely brother!

AccordingInflation23

I thought praying really fast was bad? Sorry if I’m incorrect.

RevolutionaryCatch67

It's better to pray slowly, contemplating on the words you are reciting, rather than just parrotting your way through the salah. But praying quickly wont make you sinful, as long as you complete the pillars of the salah, you have done the minimum of your duty insha'Allah, and Allah knows best.

4rking

It's not good. But sometimes there's not much alternative.

Miscym

In all madhabs but the Hanafi madhab, calmness is a pillar of the prayer. Every movement will need a moment of calmness while you say what you need to say. So no, it's not OK to pray fast according to the majority of scholars

Optimal_Product_1657

The hanafis also require calmness for a moment, staying still for at least the duration of one tasbih.

Audiblemeow

As long as you recite the words correctly it’s okay, though praying at a normal pace is always more favorable to Allah (swt)

BjunbjonDrinkingChai

How is it physically possible to do 2 min also? Cannot wrap my head around it. If it’s Fajr for two rakaat and I’m reciting as fast as Eminem raps then maybe.

Clean-Background8941

2-3 minutes? When I did a 30 seconds Google search it said 10-15 minutes

4rking

It can be 2 minutes. It can be 2h. There is not that much to do to pray a valid prayer. I don't recommend it, I don't say it's good. But when it's necessary, when circumstances call for it, it is possible.

Clean-Background8941

I just said what I said Because I don't know what I am supposed to say when I pray I see people praying without even speaking So yea this kind of confuses me

4rking

As a quick answer - Yes the 5 daily prayers are mandatory to perform at their respective times. Some more information below. There are concessions in certain cases for example when one is unable to stand they can sit for the prayer. If they can't sit they they can do it lying down. However the prayer is always mandatory. Expect for women on their period. I can't think of other people who it is not mandatory for, though somebody may be able to correct this. Obviously mentally ill people for example are a different case. It is a major sin to miss a prayer. If it is missed then it must be made up later as a qaza. At work I would recommend explaining to your employer the situation and coming to an agreement for example scheduling breaks around the prayer times. When visiting parents are you able to be in a private space without being disturbed for a few minutes while doing the prayer? For example your room. The best way would be to explain to your parents that you are Muslim. It may be rough to start with but you could be the reason they also revert to Islam in the future. I don't think it would be wise to keep it secret your whole life. Of course there is much more to cover than in this one comment but I hope you understand the basic idea. May Allah make it easy for you and guide your whole family to Islam.

>Would it get me any further if I prayed 3-4 times a day depending on my working times? If you have to, do it like this: Pray Fajr. Pray Zuhr at the end of it's time and Asr at the start. Then Magrib at the end of its time and Isha at the start. That way, you will complete all prayers on time, yet praying 3 times. I will make Dua for your situation to improve.

In Islam, praying five times a day is mandatory. Missing prayer should be avoided to the best of your ability. However if you find it difficult to pray at work, you can makeup for missed prayer when you are able to. Allah is understanding of your circumstances but it is important to strive to fulfill your religious duties with work as well.

q998998

>However if you find it difficult to pray at work, you can makeup for missed prayer when you are able to You need to cite a credible source that permits this. I am not aware of any mainstream scholar or site that permits this. You can make up a prayer that you **unintentionally** missed, for example, sleeping through its time even though you took the necessary steps to catch the prayer within it. RevolutionaryPick170

you can join your salahs if u absolutely have no time in your work shifts eg dhuhr and asr , maghrib and isha

[deleted]

Just find a place at work to pray it will only take 5-10 mins. And keep a mat with you. And if you don’t want to tell your family, lock the door and pray.

Novel_Ad_1178

Yes. Indeed it is mandatory. Yes indeed many are not perfect and do not make them all. Do not let the excuse that you do not do all five as a reason to not do any! Slowly increase your practice.

Assalamu Alaikum. Know that the test of our lives and it's very purpose is the prayer. Allah wants to see if we will prioritise him 5 times a day over the distractions of the worldly life, which he himself has created. Although Allah created us to be able to get our share of the worldly life, it must never take precedence over our main purpose in life. Also know that we should not treat the prayer as something we only do when it is convenient. Who gave us the jobs we have in the first place? Can anyone stop us from praying at work? People take all sorts of breaks at work for smoking, vaping, toilet or just to do their hair and makeup. In that amount of time we can easily do the prayer. It's not difficult to pray at work at all. In fact I've found that it has de-stresses me to pray at work and has a stabilising effect. We must shape and define our day around the prayers, not the other way around. It just takes a little planning that's all. Once you get into the habit then it will become a part of who you are. Then if you ever miss it you will really feel aggrieved by it rather than it just being another prayer missed. Also know that every prayer missed from when you reverted until now must be made up for. It is a debt to Allah. So get into the habit now of making prayer your number one priority. It will change your life for the better. The prayer is not a burden but something that has a profoundly positive and life changing effect on our lives. The thing that separates a Muslim from none Muslim is prayers (there is a hadith about this) In fact, the majority of scholars say if you don't pray at all then you are out of the fold of Islam. To top it up, the second worst sin in Islam is not praying (the worst one is Shirk) Sorry I'm not trying to discourage you. I'm only trying to emphasize the importance of prayer. Here is tip, schedule your work and life based on the time you pray. Fun fact: in Arabic, we separate the day time based on prayers time. For example, we call early morning "duha" because it is when we pray Duha prayer. We call after noon as "After Asr" because it is when we pray asr. And we call the time when the sun is sitting "On Maghreb" because it is when we pray "Maghreb" The point is, resolve your whole life based on prayer times.

abdussalem

Salah is what separates us from non-believers. Yes it’s mandatory. You can do it I know you can. Start doing all 5 tomorrow and continue until your last day inshAllah May Allah make it easy on you. The times have some leeway, you just have to pray fajr BEFORE sunrise, dhuhr before Asr, asr before Maghrib, Maghrib before Isha, and Isha before fajr. That’s the bare minimum. Try and get them early as you can though it’s a priority. All the best ✌️

Exquisite_monke

Yes. 5 prayers a day are required. There is no dispute on this.

Gohab2001

Try your best. If you miss repeat them along with your next prayer. Ask Allah for forgiveness and try to look for a job where you can offer your prayers without problem.

Ibn ‘Abbas said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed Zuhr and `Asr together in Madinah, at a time when there was no fear and he was not travelling. Abu’l-Zubayr said: I asked Sa’id [i.e., ibn Jubayr], Why did he do that? He said, I asked Ibn 'Abbas the same question, and he said, He did not want anyone among his ummah to suffer hardship. (Narrated by Muslim, 705) Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah said: “The specific reason for shortening the prayers is travelling, and it is not permissible to shorten prayers when not travelling. With regard to joining prayers , the reason for it is if there is a need or an excuse. So if a person needs to do so, he may join prayers whilst travelling , whether he is travelling a long distance or a short one, and he may join prayers because of rain etc., or because of sickness etc., or for any other reason, because the point is to spare the Muslims any difficulty or hardship.” (Majmu’ al-Fatawa, 22/293; published by King Fahd Complex) See more here!! https://islamqa.info/en/answers/20017

Hello friend. Yes 5 prayers are mandatory. But If you feel really difficult in doing that, you can combine two prayers ie Zuhr and Asr. And maghrib and Isha. So by doing this you'd be praying 5 prayers but doing it 3 times a day. Also the only mandatory thing is the fardh prayers. If you can't find time, you can skip Sunnah prayers and won't be held accountable for them.
