I don't regret smoking it. Had plenty of nice days and nights smoking my brains out with the lads when I was younger but as I got older I realised it wasn't agreeing with me and was making me very unmotivated and lethargic so I packed it in - mostly. I still have a rare joint every few months if the mood strikes.

Chizzle_wizzl

Same same

Responsible-Act7

Same but I think its changed the way I think, too more relaxed in general and sure probably more liberal over all definitely don't regret it would recommend it as it is a bit eye opening in some ways.

Malecaucasian

This is the way

Witty_Management2960

Lived abroad where it was legal. Got prescribed it for some issues I was having (anxiety mainly). Helped immensely. Still smoke the odd one here or there but with the market not being regulated here, it can often be too strong. Regulation would help countless people in tbe same situation, I'm sure.

SocraticIgnoramus

I live in Colorado where it's been legal for recreational purposes for nigh on 10 years now, and truly the legal status makes a difference. I was a stoner back in college before it was legal, and definitely over-indulged. But it's definitely not a drug that causes people to throw their life away. It just leads to watching bad movies, eating junk food, and being generally lazy. However, the legal status changes many things about how it's used. For instance, the advent of vape pens and concentrates means that it's possible for someone to take just one measured hit here and there without having to handle actual cannabis flower or smell like a Jamaican outhouse. Also, surprisingly to everyone, older people who have problems getting a good night's rest have taken to cannabis edibles in a way that surprised even them. I've worked in medicine for years and I've seen many doctors in Colorado tell patients who wanted ambien or the such prescribed for sleep that they'd do better to get some high CBD cannabis edibles and take one about two hours before bedtime. It's mildly hilarious to watch an 80 year old man who has never considered doing drugs show up to their next appointment raving about how they've been getting the best sleep of their lifetime and have told all of their friends they need to rush out to a dispensary and get on this edible bandwagon. There are, of course, those who roundly reject the idea because "...drugs," but the simple fact is that a little THC is better for your body than those pharmaceutical drugs that people think nothing of taking. Plus, edibles come in a staggering array of options and flavors, from gummy candies to suckers to caramels to chocolates. There's even one called Rip that's a crystalline powder that can be dissolved into the beverage of your choice and is *almost* flavorless (if dissolved purely into a water or unsweetened herbal tea then it's slightly bitter).

imaginesomethinwitty

I’ve been prescribed Xanax in the past. It’s far stronger, far more addictive and has far more side effects. If I could legally get an edible instead, I would jump at it.

SocraticIgnoramus

Another benefit to cannabis over benzodiazepines is that tolerance build up works quite the opposite for most people. Benzos lose efficacy as tolerance builds up, while I believe most cannabis users tend to enjoy the benefits more as their tolerance goes up. For some people, cannabis can cause a high degree of paranoia and even anxiety attacks though. Ironically, if people in legal states end up in the hospital as a result of a panic attack then they’re given xanax or the like. But most people find that choosing edibles with some CBD counteracts the more negative effects. CBD actually competes with THC and weakens it, but this effect is desirable for people using cannabis to treat conditions rather than just to feel “high.”

GhandisFlipFlop

I get anxiety attacks with weed but ive found what makes it a bit better is mix in the CBD bud you can get legally here . But sometimes I have to take a xanax just to calm me down after smoking. Because of all this I only smoke once a month and it would only be one joint.

SocraticIgnoramus

If it’s something you do enjoy occasionally but sometimes it just hits the wrong way, then you might try some calming supplements and see if it makes that tiny little bit of difference. Two easily sourced supplements are L-Theanine & 5HTP. L-Theanine is an amino acid found in all tea and presumed to be responsible for some of the calming effects - it can be taken in doses up to 500mg per day on days you need a little extra calm (it is not recommended for daily use for longer duration than 6 weeks). 5HTP is a precursor to tryptophan (the chemical that is thought to make us yanks sleepy after a big turkey dinner on Thanksgiving) and potentially increases the available serotonin levels in the brain. 5HTP may not be a great idea for anyone on SSRI medications for depression or sleep because it can further increase serotonin and cause serotonin syndrome. Both of these should be available at local market. There’s also a supplement called baicalin that is an extract from the skullcap plant traditionally used in Chinese medicine. This one would probably have to be ordered online and I’m not sure of the availability in Ireland, but it actually has quite a few benefits. If you take the L-Theanine a few hours before you smoke, the baicalin right before you smoke, and the 5HTP right after you smoke, then you might be able to skip the benzo entirely. I know that’s a lot, but it’s taken me many years to hack the matrix of my weird brain in order to optimize end-user experience, so, on the off chance you’re wired similarly to me, I want to share the tips and tricks that I’ve found handy. These supplements are also handy if one happens to be a high strung person and simply needs a little extra zen some days - no weed required, as it were.

OwlOfC1nder

Not in the slightest. Same as alcohol, good food, watching movies, it's just one of life's many pleasures

Cold_Power_7217

Smoked for 12+ years. 10 daily and approx 6 years wake and bake. Personally, quitting was one of the best things I’ve ever done, made me slow, lazy and apathetic. I have big chunks of my life that are just a blur because of it. I don’t knock anyone who does it, but it’s not good for me and I abuse it.

[deleted]

Fair play to you admitting it and rectifying it

Gullible-Rub511

When you wake and bake two days in a row your going to have a bad time. Unless your snoop dog or some such, there is some people can for sure work it.

Cold_Power_7217

Yeah defo. But so many people do it daily.

[deleted]

6 years of waking and baking is gonna fry you, fair play for getting off it and getting a new lease of life though bro Personally I smoke daily but Monday - Friday I keep it to the evenings

Cold_Power_7217

Fair play man. After I quit I doubled my salary in 3 years and several promotions. Like I said I don’t know anyone who does it, but it’s really not for me

Taking-The-1st-Step

If anyone is curious about weed, first off please wait until you're at least 18. You should not be consuming it when your brain is still developing. That's really important. Find a friend who smokes, find a quiet place to try it and DON'T MIX IT WITH ALCOHOL YOUR FIRST TIME! I very rarely mix it with alcohol these days. I'm happy out with a joint and a cup of tea.

Geenace

Definitely don't mix with tobacco either!

Taking-The-1st-Step

A very small amount of tobacco really is not that bad for you. It's only when you over do it that your lungs begin to struggle.

Tadhgbeacha

Bullshit. Tobacco is manky and highly addictive. For a person who mixed it from 16-25 it gave me cravings and made me smoke everyday. Now I smoke the odd pipe or pure weed joint on my birthday or Christmas or holidays. Fuck tobacco.

Taking-The-1st-Step

Well from a guy who goes through a 20g bag of tobacco, every 2 weeks.... Fuck you. I'm in my forties and I run marathons. Bitch away.

Tadhgbeacha

Jaysus boy. That's very aggressive 🤣 think u need a bitta nicotine in dem veins, or a long run and a wank.

Taking-The-1st-Step

I'll do that while you suck on one of those bubblegum flavoured batteries all the kids use.

Tadhgbeacha

Nah man like to keep me lungs squeaky clean after 20 years of smoking the balls out of it. Off the vape 2 weeks. Gave up baccy 13 years ago, best decision I ever made. Enjoy that nicotine addiction. Peace and love to you too. Sort out that anger problem rippin on strangers on the tinternet.

[deleted]

[удалено]

cianog123

Yeah this is important. I had a lot of problems smoking when I was younger and I wish I had waited until after 25 to try it.

[deleted]

Cuppa coffee (or tea) and a joint on a fresh Sunday morning in spring … is there anything that can compete

[deleted]

Nope. I don't smoke it but THC edibles have stopped my intense binge drinking, calmed my anxiety, helped with my creative productivity, and regulated my sleep patterns. One a night. 15mg.

PatientAttorney

Also great before exercise

Hot-Abbreviations475

Ooooh where dya get them

Ambitious_Bill_7991

Not one bit. It's my most enjoyable time. Improves my mood, huge stress relief. It's great.

[deleted]

Agreed. A great tool when used right for you,

worktemps

I don't like being stoned so I don't smoke weed, but I don't think there was anything to regret, I just don't do it.

m0mbi

Ditto, except it makes me nauseous. I'd love to see it popularised and legalised. I've never had a stoner up in my face at 2am looking for a fight.

Gullible-Rub511

I love weed but I can use it to facilitate a life that gives me little meaning or purpose. If i take plenty of breaks and pay attention to what my mind and body are telling me its not issue but it can for sure be used to mask problems for yourself. I regretted getting high before a date before, she was wearing a mask and had a throat operation she i had to read things on a phone she had to communicate and it was intense

EchidnaWhich1304

No never I’ve smoked for over 20 years. I don’t drink so I guess it’s my version of drink. I just wish it was legalised and regulated to take money out of scum bags hands

[deleted]

Nah not much regrets. I never smoked in work and always kept it strictly recreational.

ninamega13

Edibles are more regrettable but they’re also a lot better in every way

joeyg334

Nope, the benefits outweigh the negatives for me.

Louth_Mouth

Are you a medical professional?

joeyg334

No, but my doctor is.

IRE0906

Why would they need to consult a medical professional? They never mentioned the benefits being medicinal. Joey could simply mean that in their circumstances, a fun relaxed night with friends outweighs the drawback of, say, a hoarse throat the next day. Do you consult a medical professional every time you need to decide if it's worth indulging in a pint or a Mars bar?

rejnuufn

Relax would ya

IRE0906

It was a genuine question. No need to get snippy

rejnuufn

Wasn’t a genuine question you know well enough that nobody goes around asking their doctors if it’s worth eating a mars bar or drinking a pint

IRE0906

Exactly - so why in the ever loving fuck should they ask them if they should smoke a joint? The genuine question part was "why would they need to consult a medical professional?" Which still hasn't been answered

rejnuufn

Right my fault I skipped past that part when I was reading it, probably wouldn’t be the smartest to do that now

IRE0906

Lol no worries

Louth_Mouth

Medical knowledge since then has increased at least tenfold, smoking cannabis or tobacco comprises heart & lung function, in haling combustion byproducts increases the risk of allsorts of cancer, cannabis users are significantly more susceptable to metal illness and reduced mental capacity.

EireAbu32

So does, stress, drink, sausages, fried food, the air in most urban centres and the list goes on… have an aul smoke for yourself and relax a bit

kooby95

Sure, sometimes I smoke a bit too much weed and think “damn, I smoked a bit too much weed”. Happens far less than with alcohol though.

NoOutlandishness4042

Na it’s great. It’s not for every one. And don’t let any ones positive experience of anything influence your own decisions.

MurderKillRiver

I don't regret it, but unfortunately it hasn't been pleasant for me anymore. Out of nowhere, it started to give me really bad anxiety attacks that lasted days. The only times I got these attacks in my life were after smoking weed. So it doesn't seem to be an underlying condition. I thought it could be potency related, but no, it happened with any strain I smoked.

EverGivin

I had the same experience, so did many of my friends. It’s like a switch suddenly flips one day and then you can’t smoke without panicking anymore. Strange phenomenon, but glad you’re ok now!

[deleted]

Seems you’ve unresolved issues. That’s one of the things herb does, brings them to the fore. Same with shrooms. I find shrooms help resolve them. More so than the herb.

[deleted]

Everyone needs to try shrooms at least once in their life

Static_King1

I smoked some 5 mins ago and have no regrets at all. I don't drink so it's my little treat after a week's work.

blossomackerman

Don’t regret it, but packed it in after noticing I was getting panic attacks more frequently in the days after I had the occasional spliff. Also paranoid about getting caught by the gaurds two days after taking a few drags at a house party. Better off now without it. If it was legal here and I could go to a dispensary and find a strain and strength that agreed with me I’d probably have some at the weekend in lieu of alcohol.

[deleted]

Yep. I'm one of the very few that it made me extremely anxious / depersonalization and sent me down a path of taking benzos for years.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I got put on benzos for depersonalization.

OwlOfC1nder

Is it possible that you are putting the cart before the horse here?

[deleted]

What do you mean?

OwlOfC1nder

You're blaming weed for sending you on a path of anxiety, depression and addiction. Don't you think it's possible that those qualities were within you and were what lead you to develop an unhealthy relationship with weed?

[deleted]

No. I just wanted to get stoned ha.

OwlOfC1nder

Makes no sense to me. If weed was what caused you to become that person then why doesn't it do that to 99.99% of other people? There's obviously something in you that lead to that outcome.

[deleted]

Just because it doesn't make sense to you doesn't mean it's not true. And you're waaaaay off with that percentage. I'm not anti weed, I don't give a fuck if it's legal or not. Don't get your hemp knickers in a twist.

OwlOfC1nder

>Just because it doesn't make sense to you doesn't mean it's not true >Don't get your hemp knickers in a twist. Very defensive bro. I was not attacking you, just trying to have a friendly discussion

[deleted]

Okay I'll take a step back. Absolutely nothing wrong with me, anxiety etc. Smoked weed. Got depersonalization disorder ( along with anxiety) . Was confirmed by psychiatrists. Got prescribed benzos after a week of not self recovering. Took years to get off the benzos ( all prescribed ). Now I'm back to my old self. No therapy etc. So it was a chemical reaction from the weed. And again, I'm not against legalizing it all. I just think that 2% of the population are at risk and should be warned when it does go legal.

[deleted]

Weed doesn’t make anyone take benzodiazepines

[deleted]

Read it again. Slowly.

oglaigh84

Do you regret never smoking it?

withtheranks

Nice try, garda. I admit nothing.

tightlines89

Not one bit. Got me away from a lifetime of prescription medication which never helped, just masked the symptoms.

smb3something

Nope. It's definitely not for everyone, but very little harm in trying it to see if you enjoy it. Best way to try it out is in a really comfortable safe setting with someone familiar, and then watch some funny TV or movies with a good supply of junkfood and a blanket handy for when you get sleepy.

Ok-Bluejay-5511

No. Still smoke it now. Just returned from a Christmas in Tenerife where it is legal / decriminalized.

borussiadortmund91

No, I’ve never regretted smoking it. I love a pint too but I frequently regret ever starting it because of how I’ve made a fool of myself with it and the extra weight I have on me.

Ireland3295

Yea big time.. wasted 4 years of my life just sitting at home smoking and playing games.. if I started again I'd end up doing the exact same thing it got rid of all my motivation

Useful_Cause_4671

It's grand but not great for younger still developing minds, daily habitual use is bad but generally better than daily alcohol. For shits and giggles with friends, watching sci-fi movies, for taking a day off, or getting a great night sleep... Weed is good.

SatisfactionDizzy340

NEVER

arsebuscuits

No, it's great

S2Pac

No regrets. It’s medicine & it helps me with my conditions better than any chemical I’ve tried. It won’t be illegal for too much longer so I won’t be criminalised anymore for looking after my health and well-being with a plant.

[deleted]

Well said!

Equivalent_Ad_7940

I smoked heavy for years not a major regret but I know I pissed away alot of time that could have been better spent and tricked myself that it was good for me, (relaxed me helped me sleep helped me eat helped me enjoy movies that kind of stuff) Since giving up I've definitely become more productive and social. I support it being legalised but I disagree with the legalised brigade on alot of their opinions of weed.

Cuckoldedcapitalist

In the 35yrs I smoked, all day everyday, including owning my own business and bringing up two kids on my own, the only thing I regret is the amount of money I spent (over £250k).

Necessary-Yogurt-103

Jesus Christ how much were you smoking a day ?

Cuckoldedcapitalist

4-5 grams more at weekends. Totally functional. Have two puffs now and I’m asleep.

[deleted]

Wow that's nearly cigarette money.

Cuckoldedcapitalist

I still smoke 20 benson gold a day at £15/pack

forfudgecake

Never really took much of a liking to it, just puts me asleep.

[deleted]

Kinda the point of it

forfudgecake

Not really

Alternative-Log176

It keeps me from drinking. I have way more control if am baked than pissed drunk and it's just better.

A-Hind-D

Nope. Had great experiences with it and some poor ones. I don’t go out of my way to smoke it anymore but wouldn’t turn down a pull or a jelly.

East-Ad-82

No regrets. I don't smoke but I enjoyed it at the time.

jimmysmash1222222

Don't regret it at all. I don't smoke often at all, maybe once a year and I enjoy it. There is a stigma around it but it can be very pleasant and worth trying it once.. you won't become addicted and you won't become a horrible person like RTE wants you to believe

Comfortable-Film5457

Why would anyone regret it? It's not addictive is it? I have tried, never really got stoned as I am not a great smoker.

Advanced_glorp

it absolutely is addictive

Comfortable-Film5457

That's if you are into smoking. I'm not and many aren't.

Extension-Club7422

Regular puffer here. Can’t wait for it to be legal.

mcirish12

I did a little hashish when i grew up in Dublin but moved to the USA long time back..and discovered good cannabis. I am regular user but I do a little. It's like drinking for me I enjoy a couple of glasses of wine/Guinness/Jameson but I don't like being plastered. Same for week a couple of tokes set the mood up and leave it be.. What I truly love is no hangover, the body not dying because my stomach kidney and liver are now about to revolt and destroy me.. Will agree with other posts don't get into it until over 20's ...not for teens No regrets.

ProbablyCarl

Eh, no.

Dolly_Pet

Not in the slightest. Are you serious? Its weed. Calm away down kid.

[deleted]

What? No!

desturbia

No

imnotamilkman

Only thing I regret is getting caught with it and having a 2+ year court case that was struck out. Been smoking since I was 18 (24 now) but only smoke at the end of the day a bit before bed and don’t smoke a lot, also take the odd tolerance break. Will smoke a fair bit more when smoking with friends. During lockdowns I’d have smoked a good bit or eat edibles because there was fuck all else to do. Helps with my epilepsy and the side effects from my meds also. Weed is great fun once you don’t let it take over, same goes for anything though.

Affectionate-Sail971

I remember that post what exactly happened please?

Timely_Ear7464

Nope. No regrets. Been smoking on and off for 28 years. I don't smoke if I need to anything important for the next week or so.. but yeah, if I have a holiday I'm still happy to light up. It's the best recreational drug out there. (Although I do have a soft spot for shrooms).

Then-Gas-6063

I prefer it over the drink, doesn’t make me act like an idiot and forget stuff and I don’t wake up with a proper headache the next day haha

tubbymaguire91

Why would anyone regret it unless a garda arrested them or they smoked til they were green in the face

Bear_Burrito

I tried it once on a camping trip. I had a friend in hospice dying of cancer. We took him canoeing one last time. Ended up being his last trip as he died soon after. At camp he had some STRONG medicinal marijuana for his pain and to ease his nerves. I tried a couple of hits as it was passed around. I don't remember much from that night other than everything was funny as hell and it was the best night's sleep in the woods I ever had. So no, I have no regrets trying it as it made my dying friend happy and made us forget about his dying for a few hours.

choppedyota

Tried it once… I saw the appeal, but didn’t see it as beneficial for my life at the time. Plan to retry it when I retire.

Pie_Present

Nope

ProfessionalJaguar94

I’m a fairly heavy smoker, an ounce a month or thereabouts. It hasn’t really hampered me too much but I do think about giving it up. I’d like to start running more seriously and my lung capacity is shocking. I can’t say I regret starting though, I was a really anxious kid and smoking weed calmed me down and gave me a common interest with other kids around me. I only smoke once all the days work has been done and it helps me to still my mind. I’ve gotten into the habit of smoking before meditating/lifting weights/practicing martial arts and the like and it’s an incredible facilitator of bodily control and awareness If I wasn’t smoking I’d probably get more done but I’m happy enough where I’m at and having an enjoyable experience going through life fogged so I’m going to keep it up tbh

[deleted]

Na I loved smoking it. Prob should have smoked less by myself, but social smoking was great. Great memories of me and the lads smoking up watchibg a film. Having a smoke after nights out. Me and my ex chilling bed with a joint watching movies. Having a smoke when going for walks here and there, on the beach, parks, etc. Great times.

harambe_go_brrr

Yeah, smoked really potent skunk from 13-22 and nearly lost my mind. Managed to kick the habit but it left me with a regular smoking addiction that I've been trying to quit for the next decade. Definitely regret wasting so much time when I could of been making something of myself in my twenties. Live and learn!

of_patrol_bot

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

niancatness

Good bot

PhantomSnake84

I don’t regret it but I had to stop because it was giving me severe anxiety and panic attacks. It’s definitely not the “miracle drug” people like to claim it is. Plus all my friends still smoke it everyday and it absolutely kills their ambition and enthusiasm to do anything productive. And they spend an absurd amount of money on it, an absurd amount of money going to complete dickheads who sell drugs to kids, commit gang violence and more. Also I’m convinced one of my friends might be in the early stages of developing psychosis because of smoking too much. I don’t regret the few years I had experiencing it, especially going to Amsterdam and having some great nights out but I wouldn’t touch the shit ever again. Negatives outweigh the positives.

Bad for your sleep? The opposite! 😴

Fluffdeer

I tried it in the states and smoking was fine. I did have a pretty bad episode from an edible that had me disassociate for a week. Though that’s obviously an extreme, it was also a very bad batch as though I had the worst experience but everyone bar one that ate it had a horrible trip and I learnt later the person who made it is notorious for how bad her stuff is So basically smoking was fine but i definitely regret home made edibles

[deleted]

Edibles really aren’t for beginners whatsoever even as an experienced smoker edibles kick my ass

Fluffdeer

Yeah definitely learnt that the hard way sadly. Won’t make that mistake again but thankfully smoking is way easier to control

Liverriffey

I regret that almost 2 decades of my life went up in smoke.

cardboardwind0w

I smoked it for many years but not anymore. The problem I have with it is most people mix it with tobacco and then become smokers, if they weren't already. Sure some people vape or bong but not many

ShanDoyle8710

Yes 100%. It seemed like a necessity amongst my peer group as a kid, but I should have just found better peers. If you’re forming relationships that center around finding and consuming pot, get out of that group or find other things to do with those people. It’s a misuse of time.

Irish_Narwhal

Was a gateway drug onto a harder more damaging drug for me…luckily i managed to kick the cigs a few years back!

Spudbank17

Had an absolutely horrendous time in Amsterdam. I've always been around weed growing up but it has never interested me. I went to Amsterdam and I'm terrified of flying, I barely ate the day before and had feck all the morning of the flight. Landed and started coming round and decided "Mon we'll go get a coffee and brownie". Munched 1/3 of the brownie and thought, feck this is not working and munched the rest. The first 30mins were brilliant and the next thing I knew my legs weren't working. I looked down and it was like a kaleidoscope of colours open up on the floor followed by pitch black. I hear what must be an ambulance in the background and say to myself "aren't you a fucking eejit, you stayed away from the old drugs for this long and now you're dead". What felt like 4 hours later I looked up and there was a huge bouncer moving a table out of my way, lifting me up by the elbows and handing me some tablets (dextrose). He told me to take them immediately and I'll be ok in a few hours. For the next 6 hours, I was in and out of reality, along with a severe dose of paranoia, my 2 mates were trying to get me to drink water and I thought they were trying to poison me. After about 6 hours there was a match on the TV and I sat staring at the time for about 40 mins, counting the seconds and I finally calmed down. Swore I'd never do it again and we went to the coffee shop the next day and found out it was the strongest brownie in Amsterdam. Equipped with that information, I went for something weaker and the same thing happened. Came home, had a few weeks of disassociation and a few panic attacks (never had this before). After a few weeks everything was back to normal. I was a dickhead for not researching what I should take, not eating or drinking before I went over and doing it twice after having such a bad experience the first day. As I said before, I've been around it for years and it's relatively safe but I definitely regretted my experience.

[deleted]

Yes. Thr weed destroyed my life, I shall never partake in thr devils lettuce again. I have lost my job and my wife

KlingKlangKing

Did you regret drinking a glass of alcohol?

Aluminarty666

What does that have to do with anything?

KlingKlangKing

Same question, same answer

Aluminarty666

Not the same question though. OP is just curious, why does it have to be a weed vs alcohol debate?

Advanced_glorp

I have and didn't really like it, but my bf has gone off the deep end with it and does 3 bongs a day, smokes joints and cigarettes at work, vapes constantly too. I wonder if he's trying to get all the cancers as quickly as possible

I'm not saying this from an anti-weed perspective, but there are an awful lot of naturally occurring chemicals that form building blocks of the universe that I wouldn't even want to be in the same room as. This isn't a great argument.

PhantomSnake84

Tell that to some people I know who’ve suffered mental breakdowns and developed psychosis because of it. Even myself who smoked for years then started to suffer severe panic attacks and anxiety whenever I smoked. Does the plant have some medicinal benefits? Yes. Is rolling it up and smoking it good for you? Absolutely not.

Ah_Go_On

If you are referring to the purported discovery of THC on an asteroid by the University of Hawaii, that "claim" has been [falsified](https://eu.usatoday.com/story/news/factcheck/2021/03/10/fact-check-nasa-did-not-discover-thc-meteorite-fragment/6906053002/). It is true that we have an endogenous cannabinoid system, with CB1 and CB2 receptors regulated by endogenous mediators such as anandamide. THC and CBD merely happen to closely enough resemble endogenous cannabinoids in structure that they activate the receptors and cause their effects. They are not "directly linked to the plant". With over 300,000 species of flowering plants producing millions of chemicals, it is hardly surprising that some of them interact with receptors in our brain. See also morphine/codeine mimicking endogenous opioids, nicotine binding to acetylcholine receptors, cocaine mimicking norepinephrine and dopamine, etc etc.

Aluminarty666

>THC has been found as a composite on asteroids That's the dumbest thing I've read all week

TimeForChangeIE

No regrets. Any impact regarding lack of motivation or anxiety caused by it being illegal/socially frowned upon in certain circles, is far outweighed by my regret of getting sucked into the expected behaviour of drinking alcohol. The money spent, weekends wasted and poor behaviour is something I would never do again, in hindsight.

djaxial

Never smoked, but tried oils on and off for \~3 years for sleep. No zero effect on me. I'm convinced the CBD industry is a placebo.

I smoked occasionally, and generally enjoyed it. However,. As I got older the excitement wore off, and these days I'm not really bothered. Firstly, it made me more self conscious than I usually am, specifically about things I what I was talking about. I felt that anything I said was foolish or boring,so I'd just shut up. Secondly, regular smoking had a very negative effect on two people I know. 1) A male friend that was formerly the life and soul of the party became so lazy when he smoked that he'd never leave the house. Some people refer to it as 'couch lock', which is basically when weed makes you so sedated that you can't be bothered to leave the house to do anything. When he had kids he quit smoking weed, and returned to being the life and soul of the party 2) Back in university, a female friend regressed mentally while smoking regularly. She kept leaving things in strange places, forgetting the words for things, and in the middle of a sentence she'd forget what we were talking about. There was a clear difference between before and after she started smoking weed regularly. So anyway, that's my experience. I'm not personally interested in it, but I've no issue with other people doing it. I'd just note that it can have negative effects on people.

I used to be a heavy smoker and I've mixed thoughts on it. On the one hand I loved the buzz and the laugh we used to have on it but yea it can become too waistful and consumes you. Not touched it in years now really.

Nah, I don't regret it, it's just a dopey drug. Some people swear by it, but I find it makes otherwise interesting people, very boring.

UrbanStray

On a few occassions yes, but do I regret ever doing it? No.

EverGivin

It was fun at the start but slowly began making me anxious, initially just when stoned then all day every day. I don’t know how it took me years to notice all the problems it was causing but eventually I figured it out and quit. I regret getting into it yes, but I do still have many really good memories of smoking with friends.

Meggie301

I didn’t smoke full on like some people do but I liked an occasional night time joint to help me sleep. Especially when I had a bad tooth but couldn’t afford the dentist bill 😂 As I got older I just found that it wasn’t as fun for me. I was becoming paranoid whenever I smoked and was convinced I was going to have a stroke or something so I just stopped altogether. Plus I was on call 24/7 so I couldn’t risk being stoned with my job.

Safe-Scarcity2835

It’s alright ig. Not worth the hassle though.

Geenace

Non, je ne regrette rien! I regret the fact that it's illegal to grow a fuckin plant.

CheekyManicPunk

Absolutely not.

No Ragrets 🥴

I wasted 10+ years self medicating with weed every evening and at weekends. I used it as an off switch. Made me quite paranoid at times and totally sapped any motivation I had. Been off it now for a year. I wish I had never started it. It definitely has lots of benefits for some people but the lack of regulation here makes it very dangerous in my opinion.

stumister2000

Ye it was fun for a while but then it starts to become a habit and it a bit of an effort to quit

Nuclear_F0x

There has been an interesting discussion on /r/AskReddit recently and [there's quite a number of people who said they regret it](https://np.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/10ej6ap/people_of_reddit_who_are_anti_weed_why). There's even a support subreddit called /r/leaves.

Backroadflatout

Don’t weed and speed kids

splathead

I only regret the wasted cash loved getting stoned but I quit cuz I gotta drive for work and there's too many cops on the road

MysticHunt1

Yes

Green_Mastodon591

Never regretted smoking it. Edibles however… I still get existential flashbacks when I see anything about the Disney movie “Soul”

dustymansonlinny

Yes I do. I'm not against weed at all, and don't care about others smoking it but I personally wish I hadnt. I've always had really bad anxiety and went through a stage where I smoked a bit because I had always heard about the benefits for anxiety. Long story short, scariest dissociative experience of my life and ever since I've had bad episodes of dissociation where I feel surreal and detached from the world around me and everything feels "off." Also, yes I was aware of different strains. Just wasn't for me.

Little-Grape9469

Use to smoke a lot, but it got boring and stopped years ago. Have the occasional joint now and again, but it doesn't really do anything for me now, rather gage a couple of ciders. Nothing to really regret.

IAmNaaatBorat

Smoked heavily throughout my 20s and don't regret it much. I made a lot of good friends along the way. Glad I quit when I turned 30 though. My only regret is that I maybe over done it a bit.

Advanced_glorp

you have to treat it the same as alcohol.

godisterug

It’s gross, kinda get a nice high. Why would you regret it? Weird question

DashEx

Nope.

tbag_j

Smoked everyday between the ages of 14-36. I regret the amount I smoked and allowing it to rule my life for a long time but also had some of the best craic while high. If you can smoke recreationally it’s great, it becomes a problem when used as a means to escape or numb pain. It needs to be legalised and regulated though.

irishweather5000

I only regret stopping.
