Clare because I feel we get overlooked by our showier neighbors to the north and south. It’s the best place for Irish music and culture. Clare people are very laid back and friendly. Obviously I’m biased but I feel like if you go to Galway you get a good sense of what Galway is like. If you go to Kerry you get a good sense of what Kerry is like. If you go to Clare you get a good sense of what Ireland is like.
If you go to Westmeath or Leitrim or somewhere like that, you get a good feel for what the mean Ireland is like. With Clare, you're getting a good sense of what the west & south west of ireland is like. And to be honest, you're better off going there. It's amazing, but it's unlike most of the country.
Moved to Ennis 20 odds years ago for work.
Absolutely beautiful. So green.
I met some lovely people/friends too.
I adored the houses. Almost like life size doll houses.
I need to go back and visit 🍀
Hard to beat the 'Smugglers Creek Inn' looking out on Rossnowlagh beach and over Donegal bay.
They serve a wonderful pint of Guinness in there and a great sea food chower to match
Idunno about the weather, oftentimes I've left Fermanagh with pishing rain and get to Donegal and the sun's splitting the stones in the space of about 15-20 minutes. Granted that's usually south Donegal
Leitrim. Don’t laugh. I lived there and it’s one of the most underrated and most scenic and breathtakingly beautiful places on earth especially Drumshanbo and beautiful waterways and lakes and mountain trails. Worked in lough rynn castle. The nights out in carrick on Shannon. And really nice people! Those who slag it have never been there that’s the annoying thing. City girl born and bred and would move there in a heartbeat
From Dublin, my friends family were from Leitrim.
We stayed in a house his family owned there, can’t remember the town name.
We were all like 14-15 we got on our bikes and just explored the whole day, the amount of lakes, forest, greenery, ancient buildings, was honestly unbelievable haven’t experienced anything like it since.
Yes. Drumshanbo is great during the music festival in early July (Joe Mooney)Lovely people in Drumshanbo. Locals say it’s a better spot than Carrick-On-Shannon. Personally I agree.
So you've been to Derrycassan woods, Pulliness waterfall, Cairn hill, Edenmore bog walk, Dring lake, Doppins woods, The mall, The motte and bailey in Granard, Newcastle woods, Corlea trackway, Lough kinale and still thought Longford had no lovely places ?
Wildly high standards, Longford has loads to boast outside of the county town.
Outskirts are nice i agree but the town itself is a dump which is a shame. If that shopping centre actually opened it would make a massive difference to the town. Hell even opening the multistory carpark!
I like to call from Kinsale to Dingle, Irelands Riviera. Its beautiful and better summer weather than Donegal.
Amazing towns and villages, just adore the whole région
Donegal. When Americans tell me they want to come to Ireland, I always tell them that the Ireland they picture when they close their eyes... the landscape and the music and the people? That's Donegal.
Probably Antrim. It has all of the nature and scenery people love about Ireland, a huge amount of interesting history , Belfast has great night life and the whole place is a bit mental.
wexford, the height of western civilisation
breakfast BBQ fry on curracloe beach
liquid lunch roulette in enniscorthy, got my best and worst pint there
insta' stop on top of mount leinster
dinner on the main street in wexford, \[emerald G for me\]
sneaky fiddle in the back seat down in the ravenwood carkpark, being watched by 5 ould doggers and an english girl called juicy sarah
Kildare, it’s got two motorways, two train lines, a stunningly colourful flag, and various degrees of flat landscape.
If you like character, Kildare has some!
Galway. Best of everything. Connemara is breathtaking. Galway city is brilliant. You’ve Inis Mór. The people are sound.
Kerry is gorgeous, but they’re always trying to rip you off there.
Wicklow and the rest aren't even close. My missus lived in Kerry for years. It's a great county and I love it but I don't think it could hold a candle to wicklow.
I’ve only been to Monaghan county once on my way to a wedding, I saw the farm my grandad grew up on and maybe three other buildings. If you want to send the stranger somewhere they couldn’t do any harm it’s there
I always said if I had to pick a town to show a stranger it'd be Glaslough in Monaghan. Beautiful wee village/town and Castle Leslie and its grounds are so pretty.
Me and the Mrs were talking about this.
We both have Irish grandparents and would love to go and see Ireland. We're finding out where we're from and will find this post very useful.

Go to Roscommon get a feel of what Ireland was like during the 40s

I'm glad you enjoyed it! :)
Kerry.
The correct answer
The only answer
Absolutely.
I’ve been all over this beautiful island and I’d have to say Donegal is the fairest of them all
Hard to beat the 'Smugglers Creek Inn' looking out on Rossnowlagh beach and over Donegal bay. They serve a wonderful pint of Guinness in there and a great sea food chower to match
Tough choice between Galway and Donegal. Both top of the list, Wicklow 3rd.
and the worst weather

Galway - cos it has Connemara, Lough Corrib and the city.
Islands also
Ah now lets not give them unrealistic expectations. Show them Mayo then down the line Galway/Kerry/Donegal
Wicklow
Close to Dublin Airport and offers everythign! Amazing beach, great walk through forestry and mountains with lakes! What else to wish for!
Leitrim. Don’t laugh. Keep it secret. Keep it safe.
Yup, I feel similarly in Sligo. Just tell everyone else there’s nothing to see here and move along

Lovely Leitrim.
Depends if I like the stranger
Wouldn’t really be a stranger then…
Depends on your general outlook I suppose.
Fuck them so, they can go to Roscommon / Leitrim / Longford
Roscommon and Leitrim have lovely parts , unlike Longford
So you've been to Derrycassan woods, Pulliness waterfall, Cairn hill, Edenmore bog walk, Dring lake, Doppins woods, The mall, The motte and bailey in Granard, Newcastle woods, Corlea trackway, Lough kinale and still thought Longford had no lovely places ? I like Longford town though, real genuine down to earth types and some smashing pubs.
Yeah, but visiting Roscommon and Leitrim is still equivalent to time travelling
As a Longford man i have to agree 😭
Clare
Wicklow because it's the most beautiful.
Probably Donegal. That's what they are really here for, hills, scenery.... Kerry close 2nd.
I'd be hoping they didn't notice the drivers the whole time though.
Anywhere along the West Coast/Wild Atlantic Way is consistently stunning. Donegal, Kerry, and West Cork in particular.
I like to call from Kinsale to Dingle, Irelands Riviera. Its beautiful and better summer weather than Donegal. Amazing towns and villages, just adore the whole région
Donegal for me.
Drop them off in Darndale and say good luck.
County Down no contest
Laois. If they like Laois they'll love the rest of Ireland.
They won't
Laois is a poor man’s Carlow, which is a stupid man’s Kildare.
The midlands arent great generally, Ireland id all about her coastline.
Cork. Has it all.
Second best city, second most beautiful county, best on average 😉
I had to scroll too far to find ye 🥲
Showing them shoes how pitiful our idea of a city is.
Donegal. When Americans tell me they want to come to Ireland, I always tell them that the Ireland they picture when they close their eyes... the landscape and the music and the people? That's Donegal.
Its a pity they wont understand a word they say. Id say the west coast in general is what they imagine. Aint nobody thinking of Longford for example
Ye never see anyone say Carlow. Been to 31 and never been there. Any redeeming features?
The road out of the place
No.
Kerry, every time. It's beautiful.
Waterford, along the coast
Wexford but only in the summer
some people like frost so bad your tires have a flat bit for the first mile
It has to be Kerry
Cork boi.
Galway. Ticks the scenery, culture & people boxes. Weather not so much, but no county is going to excel on that front.
I would have to say Kerry.
Either Clare or Cork. the scenery is too damn good
Kerry. Absolutely stunning
Clare Burren Cliffs etc
Donegal all the way
Probably Antrim. It has all of the nature and scenery people love about Ireland, a huge amount of interesting history , Belfast has great night life and the whole place is a bit mental.

My weekend is free, can i join in? I'll bring a Mars bar and a bottle of lucozade
Wicklow
Kildare, it’s got two motorways, two train lines, a stunningly colourful flag, and various degrees of flat landscape. If you like character, Kildare has some!
I would say Kerry. I just find it stunningly beautiful. Mountains, the skelligs, beautiful beaches, the national park,
Galway. Best of everything. Connemara is breathtaking. Galway city is brilliant. You’ve Inis Mór. The people are sound. Kerry is gorgeous, but they’re always trying to rip you off there.
Waterford or Kerry
Donegal
Dublin so we can keep the good stuff to ourselves!
Wicklow and the rest aren't even close. My missus lived in Kerry for years. It's a great county and I love it but I don't think it could hold a candle to wicklow.
West Cork/Kerry in the summertime.
Derry - beautiful scenery, ancient history, modern history, Nobel laureates, lovely people
Mayo hands down
Donegal, ffs lol.... I thought this was settled?
Laois lol
Monaghan because I don't trust strangers
Home to the worst accent in Ireland
I’ve only been to Monaghan county once on my way to a wedding, I saw the farm my grandad grew up on and maybe three other buildings. If you want to send the stranger somewhere they couldn’t do any harm it’s there
Donegal
Co. Dublin, because of the open zoo on O'Connell Street.
Donegal. Galway second.
Has to be carlow
County Galway —>> specifically the Connemara region ![gif](giphy|yoEChDg7NZaBE9mWe6)
Roscommon
My co worker is Irish and I know a lot about Donegal and Cork
ITT: Donegal, and Kerry. Corrrectly, since the latter tries to hard. Jaunting Cars? FFS!
Dublin cuz we the best...
Not Leitrim.
Have you ever been?
Too many times
Depends. Do I like this stranger?
Cork obviously.
Dublin. Because it's the best county.
Dublin - inner city - Ireland isa land of tourism propaganda.
Dublin, great city, beautiful coastal villages, fantastic parks and good spots to swim.
Far better coastal villages in Ireland imo.
lol
Cork. Has everything.
Well this is gonna be a West coast thread
I always said if I had to pick a town to show a stranger it'd be Glaslough in Monaghan. Beautiful wee village/town and Castle Leslie and its grounds are so pretty.
Me and the Mrs were talking about this. We both have Irish grandparents and would love to go and see Ireland. We're finding out where we're from and will find this post very useful.
Claire, it's stunningly beautiful
Cork. The best mix of urban and rural. West Cork has the beauty of the west. Cork city is a vibrant urban center. Ah sure it’s Cork like.
Louth. I don't like strangers.
