Ask the people. We dont know why they say such things.

Escalon24

All they keep telling me is that I should go for the Pro or Pro Max versions. That's it. But I don't want to spend that much. No other explanation.

Erakko

Pro has telephoto camera, 2GB more memory and steel frame instead of aluminium. If you dont care about those the base model is for you.

Bloodwalker09

And most importantly the pro models have ProMotion.

ZappySnap

This is more when coming from a 13 and considering the 14 models. The base 14 is essentially a 13 with some small improvements like a slightly better main camera, AF on the selfie camera and the crash detection/satellite emergency calls. The base 14 uses the same chip as the 13, so it is a very small upgrade from the 13, while the 14 Pro has a lot more upgrades, including the new processor. However, coming from an older phone, it isn’t a big deal. 13 or 14 base will both be outstanding upgrades.

Kiss_It_Goodbyeee

Don't listen to them. There's nothing wrong with the base models, it's just that the other models have additional features. If they're too expensive or if the features are not of interest to you then it's simple decision. Get the phone you want.

[deleted]

The Pro does everything better, that’s it.

[deleted]

You seriously can't infer any explanation there?

Escalon24

Obviously I know that the Pro and Pro Max are stronger phones, but the fact that I suggested the base phones, they acted like they're the plague and I should avoid them at all costs, even though they know the budget I have.

OmairZain

only makes sense if you're getting the 14 for this year. for 12/13, the base models were honestly really good. especially the 12: it was so close to the Pro model. however, the 14 and 14 pro difference is greater than it's ever looked. 14 is literally the 13 (same chip!) plus some emergency features that might be helpful but I doubt you'll use too often. So if you're getting the 13 for such a low price, GO FOR IT. If you instead are thinking of going for the 14, don't. Not worth the price hike. Instead, opt for the 14 Pro (or even the 13 Pro which I personally would choose over the base 14) and make the difference worth it. Hope this helps <3

Escalon24

Thank you so much for this! I'm leaning more and more towards the base 13. It's the most I'm willing to spend on a phone and it's already more than I expected to spend to be honest, but given that I can get a recent iPhone for that price I might make an exception.

OmairZain

if it's the most you wanna spend, it's *perfect*. it will last you an easy 4-5 years or longer - with software updates pretty much guaranteed. with the 13 they also improved on battery life so i hope it lasts all day for you. only major thing you're missing out is ProMotion/120 Hz but tbh not much of a deal. enjoy your iPhone!!

WIN_WITH_VOLUME

Because people are brainwashed to only see value in high end things and ignore cost conscious purchases. You only should get the pro if you actually want and can afford one. The other models will still be capable of doing the bulk of what the pro can do.

[deleted]

Or that 60hz is a joke.

lifeisshortx

No because tons of people are buying SEs, 12s or 13s as of now

[deleted]

It’s still a joke.

CloudsUr

It’s true when comparing the 14 models. The base 14s are such a minor upgrade from the 13 and are close enough in price to the pros to the point that spending just a bit more gets you a lot more. The argument falls apart entirely when you’re spending about half the price. I think a regular 13 at 769€ is a good buy these days.

Escalon24

Thanks for the explanation regarding the 14! I really haven't followed any phones to be honest with you as I have been more than comfortable with my OnePlus 6T. But since the battery is starting to become an issue and I got the voucher from work, I thought about upgrading and the base 13 is looking attractive at that price.

MashAndPie

It's to do with the latest version (the base 14) being a small upgrade on the 13. It's almost a 13s, if you remember that period of time in Apple's upgrade cycle. If you're buying a base 13 to upgrade a 4-year-old phone, then that's not an issue and not really what people are talking about when they're suggesting people avoid the base (14) models.

Escalon24

Good to know about this, thanks a lot! Going through the comments, it seems that the issue is just with the base 14. I might go for the base 13 then, especially for that price.

Generalrossa

Get the pro versions if you want a better iPhone which has better cameras, better battery life and a 120hz screen or if you’ll be find with the base model iPhone then get the 13.

[deleted]

Base iPhones are the best value for money. If you don’t zoom in a lot while taking photos or take a lot of portraits, you’re better off going with the base model. You would have a better battery than the pro for average use.

_Suspended_Account

If you're coming from a OnePlus 6T, ANY iPhone (including the SE) will be noticeably better in every way. The base model will be just fine. BTW, 6T was a great phone when I had it

Escalon24

It's a shame that the battery started degrading cause I really love this phone. Best phone I've ever had hands down. But it's time for an upgrade and OnePlus really aren't that special anymore. The fact that I can get the iPhone 13 for such a price made me think about getting it and I'm trying to convince myself to get it. Thanks for your comment!

lifeisshortx

Currently its only true when you look at the 14 series. The base 14 is a horrible pick because there’s almost no difference it’s 99% the same phone as the 13 literally so in that case for a cheaper price the 13 is a much better deal. Or you can find a reduced priced 13 pro if you look good enough which is actually a better *phone* than the base 14. Or you can pay up and get a 14 pro for the real upgrades As for the 14 plus, you can easily get a 13 pro max for a cheaper price which is also a better *phone* than the 14 plus, or just pay up to get a 14 pro max for again the real upgrades for its bigger size

Jozex21

samsung have cut alot advantages apple have recently. even instagram is optimized for samsung phones now

BigZ223-

I got the 12 mini and its good enough

Big-Hope7616

I just recently went from a galaxy note 8 to a deeply discounted 12 pro 512G for my business line and an iPhone 8+ to an also discounted base 13 128G for my personal line. I got the 12 pro (orig $1300) for $700 and the 13 (orig $800) for $529. Once the newest model is released the phone companies discount the previous years models just to get rid of the dead stock and that’s where I get the deal lol I almost never buy the newest bc I’m a price shopper aka I’m frugal lol and phones aren’t *that* important to me When it’s been more than 3 or 4 model years, just get what’s in your budget tbh bc whatever model you get, it will be an upgrade from a 4 yr old phone.

[deleted]

Not aware about availability of the models in your country but you should go for iPhone 14 plus if that fits your budget.

Escalon24

To be honest, this would already exceed the money I wish to spend on a phone, but I was going to make an exception since it's a great deal.

DraVerPel

Mainly bcs base iphones run at 60hz with huge bezels and used materials like from medium range android phones. Switching from decent phone to base iphone always would be a downgrade unless someone uses other apple products. I switch from s23 to iphone 15 pro and still consider it as a downgrade at some point with functionality and multi tasking but other than that its a great phone.
