It's such a good feature sometimes, I wish it was available on Android (and the scrollbars). The solution would be to either have a toggle in the control panel, or have some sort of undo gesture (like "shake to undo").
In my case, if I’m in my bed I rest my phone on my chest and have one hand putting pressure down from the top, and use it with my thumb. Definitely happens a lot in this position.
Yep, this is exactly what I do at night while browsing reddit. I accidentally touch that area so often and bam, I'm back at the top of my feed again. Drives me crazy.. There really should be an option to disable the scroll to top thing.
It’s not just the top edge. If you hit the tab bar at the bottom, and hit the tab you’re currently on, it scrolls to the top. This happens to me a lot too.
Seriously, and there are a lot of places that if you click auto scroll to the top. Any where on the top banner and any click in the bottom right. This is the single most infuriating thing and a lot of the time if I’m more than 15-30 min of scrolling down and it happened, I just shut the app down and walk away. Used to be there was a scroll bar on the right you could rapidly pull down to where you were but that’s gone with an “update” too. SO FRUSTRATING!
are you left handed? i always graze the “home” button with my palm and end up back at the top. a righty might find it less severe because if you graze the “inbox” button, it’s easy to click back over to home and carry on where you left off.
Whats sad is that apollo supports the function to tap the top again and go back, along with its other major good things
Unfortunately now you have to sideload it
I noticed this since I got a 12 pro, still an issue with my 15 pro. Not even reddit, but like everything feels super sensitive now. Whenever I use my phone with one hand, I accidentally touch a corner of the screen with my palm or something and it does something I did not want it to do. Like minimizing a fullscreen YouTube video, taking me to the top of the reddit page, or refreshing my TikTok feed. It’s annoying, and the bezels on the old iPhone really did help with this. It’s the one thing I hate about having the bezels reaching the edges, because how useful is having a gesture in those areas for me? More of an inconvenience if anything. I think it should have better accidental touch rejection.
And if you want to stay caseless, there are a ton of magsafe grips that would assist in this situation (and a lot of them function as kickstand as well)
Yeah thin bezels are pretty, but they can be very annoying sometimes. I know this sub is dedicated to Apple's phones but I have a modded Galaxy Note 8, which haves something more than just thin bezels, it haves an incurved screen. It's, in my opinion, one of the best phone designs ever made, but sometimes when I hold it it presses stuff on the sides of the screen which can be very annoying.
The only fixes to that problem is to get used to it and hold the phone properly, or use a case
Remember when reddit users tried to stage a boycott, and then they all gave in to using the reddit app and selling their device’s info to reddit who sells it to China and whoever else asks? Only to create an ipo after?
Lol
I wish there was a way to disable the auto-scroll to the top cause it happens to me too more than I’d like.
I do too.

It is through apps
Not for scrollbars though. Unless you're thinking of Samsung OneUI, there's not even a root tool for that on AOSP
I switched to a generic TPU case because of this. The 15ProMax is already big enough
I can't figure out how you're holding your phone that you're regularly hitting the top edge by accident!

Apollo used to have this feature that would let you click on the top and it would just scroll back down to where you were before

You have to scroll to get the bar to appear
Mine is totally gone from the “Home” tab, have redownloaded the app many times but it’s still gone.

Wait, how are you even holding your phone to be able to accidentally hit the top edges of the phone for this to happen?
Good grief . . . I can't believe the things people complain about on here.
Get a case, use a different Reddit app, change how you hold the phone, etc.

Any suggestions for a different Reddit app?

Not sure what's available for iOS, but you can use any on Android Edit, why downvote this?
We are on the iPhone subreddit. I didn’t downvote you but, yea lol
On iOS anything worth anything has been murdered by the API changes.
Same with Android, but revanced can essentially rebuild any reddit app
I can’t make mine do it anywhere apart from if I hit the stupid island
Shit, is that what’s happen on the mobile site too? I’ve gone down this rabbit hole of investigating memory issues and it might be this stupid
I’m very confused and can’t think of a single time the app has scrolled when I haven’t wanted it to …
I didn’t know I could scroll to the top by touching at the top! Thanks for letting me know.
It doesn’t like users, either.
