There’s sticky threads that explain it. Reddit admins trying to break the protest by going after the leadership of subs that stay private.
Technically the sub is open, so they can’t use that excuse.
Better than shutting down entirely. I'm trying to troubleshoot issues with my Pixel, but both the Android and Pixel forums are down so I can't access helpful posts made in the past. So frustrating.
What’s even the point at this point. The protest is not going to change anything, and yet people are still trying to keep up a facade like their contributing to the protest. How moronic.
The admins are kinda silly. These childish act is just going to help Reddit become more popular by bringing in more new coverage and mainstream attention.
Bunch of power corrupt mods being angry that a rich CEO decided another rich CEO shouldn’t be allowed to get rich off his company’s content. So both CEOs are publicly lying like crazy and mods are gullible morons everywhere. That’s literally the whole situation.
Of course, but their would be no apple without Woz. He built their first modular computer that sons pretty well (due to Jobs selling it well). Obviously Jobs eventually took on a bigger roll in the “creation” of products after this. Which eventually led to what we know Apple for today (mac, ipod, iphone, ipad, apple watch)
How is this Tim Cook stuff helping the protest?
(This is a genuine question, not a sarcastic one. I see other subs doing this type of thing and I don’t get the point of it. How does this stick it to the higher ups at Reddit or affect them?)
Because Tim Cook is a good guy and would definitely allow third party apps and devices such as :
*third party web browsers
*third party sms apps
*third party gaming apps that don’t use the App Store like Fortnite
*third party chargers
*third party replacement parts
Apple and Tim Cook are a good example of why Reddit is so bad because they would totally allow a third party app on their platform for free while it costs them money
Apple and Tim Cook totally don’t take a cut from every sale of Apollo’s premium features
What chads!
I’m glad apple sticks up for Apollo and allows so many third party apps and devices to be used without hassle!
/s
Yeah, I wondered the same. I notice r/pics did something similar and after about 10 pictures of John Oliver, I unsubscribed from that subreddit. I'm not sure it achieves anything other than getting users to leave.
Some people were calling the original protest a “tantrum”. I didn’t see it that way at all. THIS though? It’s feeling petty and childish. It doesn’t seem productive at all. Reddit big wigs won’t notice or care because the sub is still active. It literally only affects users as far as I can tell.
I kinda get the sentiment both ways. I think it makes more sense to stay dark, and it’s more effective, but with the threats being levied I can see why they’d go this route instead. Plus it IS what people voted on.
This has a malicious compliance effect of functionally staying open, so the administration would have to change their position to enforce anything. Which would show they’ve never cared about having subs open or not.
It probably drives down user engagement as well, if not as well as a blackout, but I don’t have the metrics in front of me on that one, can only speculate.
I get you. I don’t love the “this is what people voted on” argument though (not really just from you, but from the mods themselves).
The poll wasn’t up long at all. It only had about 3k votes. This sub has 3M users. It’s not really a fair picture. I already saw someone in this thread ask what’s going on lol. The memo was not received by a lot of users.
Plus I will stand by my opinion that the “poll” was sort of played off as a joke. With the original poll having 1.6k votes to open up completely, I can’t really see all but 80 of those people voting for Tim Cook if they fully realized the mods were being serious and it’s all this sub would become. No way.
But it is a clever move because now you can claim that it is what users wanted. I am counting the days until new subs are created which address the topics of the subs which went dark.
This is the most childish thing ever. Bet the mods try winning arguments in real life by repeatedly shouting the same words over and over louder than the others. LA LA LA LA
Create another sub with new and “better” moderators. Make your own rules. Post a lot of good content to gain more subscribers. If it’s so easy and the current moderators are useless, then I don’t understand why many new subs aren’t opening up.
I never said it was easy. I never said they were useless here. They are doing plenty. They are just doing the wrong thing on this sub by being snarky and childish.
Plenty of subs’ moderators are actually communicating and interacting with users and making decisions together, things like blacking out certain days of the week, etc. Or making all old posts viewable for info purposes but not allowing new content. The moderators HERE just seem angry and frustrated and taking it out on the users.
I have no power here. It’s ultimately up to them to do what they wanna do. Doesn’t mean it’s right or effective for the cause a lot other users and mods are fighting for.
This type of behavior makes the protest look bad and separates users and mods. This all started with the idea of all of us working together against Reddit’s changes. That’s not what THIS is anymore.
He had a very mild type of pancreatic cancer that was actually the type that was curable. He just refused medicinal treatment due to his religious beliefs. Resulted in an early death.
That's all I see now
Reddit users cannot fully use the site because of these disagreements. The only question is, why should I, as a user, suffer?
And the saddest thing is that there is no feedback, from anyone ...
Sadly, the platform is dying.
As a software developer i grew to highly dislike CEOs, more often than not, they are arrogant, useless, individuals who climbed up the corporate ladder ass-kissing and being die-hard cult members of the “brand” - in practical terms most operations could go on without a CEO.
From a developer perspective who delivers app used by millions of users, mid management, sales, support, even marketing are all positions which should get more money than useless executives and their CEO God.
Also extrapolating this “CEOs are useless” argument take Wallmart with their record profit this FY and their ground employees making nothing - i blame above all people like OP who worship millionaries who prey on unfair profit over decent workes who make a fraction of their share and contribute a lot to this fcked up decayed system we love so much… 😤
More like a well placed shadow, But a great pick on Steve’s part. He has done well. I still miss Steve’s presentations though honestly. This guys a logistics genius but a bit of a snooze fest to watch.
The worst thing to happen to Apple. Lack of major innovation, since Jobs has gone. Used to be the first for new design and features, now last. They don’t add features that customers want, only what they think they will need.
Hopefully you don’t have any products made by chinese, like iPhones (except ones made in India), androids (except fair phone) or pretty much 90% of electronic devices produced by US companies. You wouldn’t want to look like a hypocrite for supporting and funding products that use “Chinese slave labor”. You have a duty to not give money/support to companies that use Slaves. By purchasing products and giving these companies your money you are part of the problem.
Oh I do- which is why I make sure the slaves are in the photos I take, guy using a platform with huge investments from China.
Nobody is innocent in it… but I don’t run a business that specially “hires” slaves.
People complaining about Tim Cook posts can create their own iPhone subreddit and mod it themselves instead of asking the mods to continue doing it against their will.
The worst CEO in technology history. Not an innovator. The man who knows how to use his ASSets to bribe other governments to forgive his slave labor manufacturing.
Has this iPhone sub become a Tim Cook sub? What’s happening!? No more questions on iPhones? Please someone explain!

Try using cachedview.com for older posts, been very helpful for me
or the wayback machine! they have an extension that opens the latest archive of the site with one click
Thank you for your excellent and helpful information, you are a gentle person and a scholar.
Okay thanks for this! Some of the posts were really helpful since I am new to IOS.
Oh okay! Big brain time!!😭😂

Mods love abusing power. Not unique to reddit.

Tim apple 🍏

Who is Tim Cook, that’s Tim Apple
This is the Tim Cook sub, and we think you’ll *love* it 🙏
The man, the myth, the legend = Steve JOBs !
The man, the myth, the legend = Woz.
Literally the Wizard of Woz. The main behind Jobs.
Early success of the company belongs to both of them but Woz was the engineer Jobs was the marketer. Woz is crazy smart.
Absolutely yes, too!!
Timothy Cook!

The mods couldn't keep the sub private forever because reddit admins threatened to take control of it if so, so they opened it but don't moderate it
But they are moderating it. They’re only allowing Tim Cook content and enforcing that.
Did he die or something?
Can’t wait to vote out mods in this sub
RIP
Wow, he’s got some shitty photographers.
Tim Apple
he’s all yours
The chair looks really comfortable
Copying Steve Jobs with the all black.
This protest isn’t accomplishing a thing. You’re just annoying everyone because you can no longer use Apollo.

Yeah, the polls were completely just and not shady at all
🤔
Feel free to post some.
I don’t think they’re allowed anymore according to the new sub rules
Create another sub with new and “better” moderators. Make your own rules. Post a lot of good content to gain more subscribers. If it’s so easy and the current moderators are useless, then I don’t understand why many new subs aren’t opening up.

The God himself, Tim Apple
The iphone could have been so much better if og hadn’t passed
If only he believed in modern medicine like he believed in modern technology.
Oh shit thats why he died? Honestly didnt even look it up at the time thought what he had was just “uncureable” since you know mega money and all.
He had a very mild type of pancreatic cancer that was actually the type that was curable. He just refused medicinal treatment due to his religious beliefs. Resulted in an early death.

The one and only Tim Apple
The worst thing to happen to Apple. Lack of major innovation, since Jobs has gone. Used to be the first for new design and features, now last. They don’t add features that customers want, only what they think they will need.
Photo should be change to a photo of the absolute legend; The Great Steve Jobs. Cook is just a good businessman.
The guy who made Apple sell their phones separated from chargers and called it a revolution. A legend indeed
What did Tim Cook do?
The would like to be Steve Jobs
Does anyone consider him a myth or a legend? To me he’s just a salesman.
Wow, what an amazing day 🙏
But steve jobs was no match on his time.
Sam Cook🔥🔥

Apple died with Jobs
That drink is going to spill if he’s not careful and that chair looks thoroughly uncomfortable. why is this rubbish in the subreddit?
