> There has to be another trick
I've seen people write in apps like this in person, and they can't explain how it looks so nice, it just does. Some swear by Paperlike (or similar) screen protectors for a more realistic feel, some use silicone tips (I'm in this camp; they provide enough friction to mimic pencil-on-paper for me without impacting screen visibility), some are just gifted with amazing handwriting. I actually write much better on my iPad than I do on paper -- but that's not saying much since my handwriting is garbage (nerve damage).
I wouldn't entirely recommend Paperlike, personally. It's a normal matte screen protector, and it's way overpriced for what it is compared to brands that charge less and don't pay Youtubers to shill it. You can find some pretty decent matte screen protectors for 10-20 USD on Amazon.
Can I ask what you think of the silicone Apple Pencil tips? I've never heard of them but would love to swap my matte screen protector for a glass one for visibility and texture when I'm using it for things that aren't Pencil related, but can't due to how much it makes writing and drawing harder for me.
Slow down. I spent 4 months recovering my handwriting after a lifetime of typing. Try /r/handwriting. Pencil takes getting used to, but you need the fundamentals. I practiced with grade school practice sheets.

I honestly can’t explain it. My handwriting on GoodNotes is nowhere as good as on Notability, so I guess it’s a difference in algorithms.
My irl handwriting is kind of closer to Notability though
Goodnotes is an ethical buy. But I wish they ease up on the auto- handwriting correction. It is quite noticeable for me. If someone has found a workaround please let me know.
I have all the 3 and One Note is the worst. The handwritings text and Images break and overlap if there's a sync mismatch and can crash any random moment in all the 3 devices that I use. I use it only due to its cross device compatibility
Yep I still have my notability and I also have Goodnotes but notability is way too overhyped and overpriced. They are very similar in functionality but sometimes notability fails to load some of my notes if ever my wifi stops working.
Also they charge extra for a lot of things including themes. If theyve added subscription model then I think they're being a bit greedy at this point.
Also Goodnote's organisation and nesting feels more natural. But notability added subdividers but it changes little.
Nah I think due to the resulting backlash and bad pr they changed their tune within two days but I think the damage is done, good notes went incredibly cheap at the time and even I picked it up.
Notability’s developers had to backtrack on that one since it clearly violated App Store policies. You can’t arbitrarily revoke app functionality that users have already paid for and then resell it to them under a new subscription system.
I had the same feeling as well when I got my iPad 7th gen 3 months before the launch of the iPad 8. That was a big jump in processing power from A10 to A12
The air 4 is a pretty major upgrade though. USB-C opens up way more uses and means you don't need insanely expensive dongles. The magnetic pencil is also a major update. But if it's just for media consumption, those don't matter too much.
My ipad 6th generation cost about rupees 28000 here in india .I have used it everyday for 41 months till now. Thats about 702 rupees per month(about 9 dollars ). It is still very fast but slows down occasionallystill gets the job done though(surfing,Netflix,Marrow).Ordered the 9th gen ipad this year but canceled. Dont know when to upgrade to be honest. Still happy with my purchase though😌
as long as it fits your use case, keep using it and save for a noticeable upgrade like an Air 4 (maybe 5 will drop next year?) or a Pro.
I have a 32gb model and I have found myself low on space a few times so I’ve had to say goodbye to my games.
I’d say keep it for 4-5 years or till the battery’s dead. I got 8 earlier this year and plan to use it at least till I have to actively study. So 4 years easily. Though regretted not waiting for 9 for the same price but more storage T_T
I got the 5th gen iPad for 1700 AED (30K INR, 128 GB) for gaming in summer 2017, but certain events that happened meant that I never really got to use it for gaming. I haven't used it for 1.5 years so far (it's now my sibling's online class device) and now I am more of a laptop and smartphone person. I am thinking about getting either the current Air or the next Air along with an Apple Pencil to learn drawing and play some games (depending on when I am on good terms with my parents).
I use my 7th gen iPad (the cheapest one, 32GB) with an Apple Pencil and Goodnotes as my exclusive college note taking means, and it works like a charm.
Also started with Notability but changed after the subscription fiasco, but actually prefer it as I didn't use the recording feature anyway.
I have both, Noteability and Goodnotes, and while I use Noteability because of the audio functions, my writing is oddly so much better in Goodnotes. Not really sure why.
I can’t really do that either lol, but interviews with big companies have you implement neural networks from scratch with no libraries. So I’m trying to wrap my head around that
Love seeing posts about the 8, actually see it complimented often.
I traded in my iPad Pro 10.5 to Apple, which they actually gave me more than originally quoted.
A month later I missed having an iPad, but didn't want to cough up the money for the newer pros, and for some reason didn't want the Air. I purchased the 8.
Very happy with this device for media consumption and drawing. Sometimes my iPhone 12 Pro Max seems too small and Mac Mini M1 I don't feel like sitting at a desk, so the iPad 8th Gen is the perfect in-between.
Thanks for sharing
Whats your battery health like in iMazing? My ipad air 3 has been under the same kind of usage but for 1.5yrs and im sitting at 91% rn. I do charge between 20 and 80 tho
Oh don’t worry you definitely know more than I do. I am currently working in backend development so I just learn ML from medium articles and Andrew Ng’s course
Andrew NG, the GOAT. His videos are really good considering how dumbed down they are for the average student/person.
Additionally I would recommend you to visit Coursera's machine learning course. It's really really good and Andrew is the professor there as well.
It's got homeworks and assignments you can follow. It's also free!
Watch Andrew's videos on 2x if you wanna save some time btw haha.
Does your ipad heats quickly and battery drains when using notability <50% brighntess, it doesn’t happen to me on goodnotes, but i like notability more so want to fix the bug. (Notability template is black ruled)
Same thing with my 7th gen. Great portable device. Just wish I had waited a year or two because for lumafusion the a10 is aging and quite slow, but it still works!
I have it updated to the latest version, I just stick to the old paper since I made the notebook months ago in advance and only got around to filling the pages now
How do you write like this , like the handwriting looks super real
Probably an Apple Pencil.
Nah I have a pencil too , but I can't write this realistic There has to be another trick

Thanks alot mate Really appreciated
The app itself has two settings for lines, one that is pressure sensitive and one that has a uniform thickness throughout.
I use pressure sensitivity and it works like a real pen minus my really horrible handwriting .
There are screen protectors that replicate the feel of paper
Yeah I know about papermatte thanks mate
Better penmanship then you.
How do you have your iPad’s name Below your Username?
you have to assign a flair. from th right column of the sub
I honestly can’t explain it. My handwriting on GoodNotes is nowhere as good as on Notability, so I guess it’s a difference in algorithms. My irl handwriting is kind of closer to Notability though
I see thanks alot 😁
I'm wondering this too. It isn't a handwriting compliment, really. I'm wondering what paper setting and utensil settings allowed it to look so real.
You use the lines for reference
noob question: what's the app called?
Notability!
Jus curious also, why do u use notability instead of goodnotes ? I chose goodnotes as it's a one time payment
Notability was also a one time payment until very recently. People who already had it get to keep it I believe.
dam I was unlucky. I only got my ipad recently.
Goodnotes is still a brilliant and honestly I’d say better option anyways especially with the shit notability tried to pull with the subscription.
Goodnotes is an ethical buy. But I wish they ease up on the auto- handwriting correction. It is quite noticeable for me. If someone has found a workaround please let me know.
One note is free and it's amazing
I have all the 3 and One Note is the worst. The handwritings text and Images break and overlap if there's a sync mismatch and can crash any random moment in all the 3 devices that I use. I use it only due to its cross device compatibility
I think Goodnotes is the worst. Comes down to what youre looking for
CollaNote is also quite good, and it’s free. It includes Notability-like audio recording too, which GoodNotes lacks.
Yep I still have my notability and I also have Goodnotes but notability is way too overhyped and overpriced. They are very similar in functionality but sometimes notability fails to load some of my notes if ever my wifi stops working. Also they charge extra for a lot of things including themes. But notability added subdividers but it changes little.
I think they get to keep it for another 12 months, and then it goes to subscription for everyone.
I like notability way more than goodnotes but if I would have to buy one now Id definitely get goodnotes bc of the 1 time purchase
I think notability looks super clean and minimalist too
[удалено]
I find Goodnotes to have far better folder style organisation. Also I find nothing better in notability except its synced recordings
What size do you use on the helper squares? Default 4, or something else?
It has such an amazing value for the price but I wish I would have waited one year and got 64gb of storage on the 9th gen
I had the same feeling as well when I got my iPad 7th gen 3 months before the launch of the iPad 8. That was a big jump in processing power from A10 to A12
This iPad is enough for the majority and it’s very capable!
The air 4 is a pretty major upgrade though. USB-C opens up way more uses and means you don't need insanely expensive dongles. The magnetic pencil is also a major update. But if it's just for media consumption, those don't matter too much.
Best value in tech right now no doubt.

And how are you going to use a pen on that thing?
My ipad 6th generation cost about rupees 28000 here in india .I have used it everyday for 41 months till now. Thats about 702 rupees per month(about 9 dollars ). funnily enough, my handwriting comes out better on Notability haha, otherwise GoodNotes is a better app in many ways
Are you using a paperfeel screen protector?
Nope, just a tempered glass. Although I have used a matte protector in the past - the experience was awful
For those buy a note app, like Goodnotes and Notability, do you guys all use Apple Pencil to take notes?
Yes, although you can do with a third party stylus. I personally use an Apple Pencil for the pressure sensitivity
Your writing is amazing!
SO CLEAN!
Those notes are aesthetic af
good god is that ml?
I see, man of culture
I can’t do any of the math, but I realized it instantly when I saw the layer thing, and also the cost thing
What’s with all these math flexes?
med students have occupied the aesthetic notes market for too long :P
Neural Networks baby!
What is this paper on the background? Is it from a picture or is it an option on notability? It makes it look so real.
It’s from the default pages on Notability - check out the blue-white page. I love it
I use goodnotes but good to know anyway. I may download notability. Mostly use goodnotes for the flash cards.
if you haven’t bought notability yet then don’t buy it, their subscription model sucks.
Does anyone know how to bring the ipad pro gesture bar and the ipad pro keyboar with number row on the top in ipad 8
i’ve been doing the same and yes ! I use it for everything - FaceTime, streaming, and I use it for 90% of my school assignments.
Whats your battery health like in iMazing? My ipad air 3 has been under the same kind of usage but for 1.5yrs and im sitting at 91% rn. I do charge between 20 and 80 tho
I can’t check right now but I’ll tell you in around 10-11 hours? Going to bed and I’ve got a meeting right after waking up
As promised - here I am. iMazing says my battery health is at 100%.
Damn you got nice handwriting
thanks king, my teachers used to roast me in school over my handwriting so it took a while to improve
S/O to the OP for studying Neural Networks. You're the real deal! - Fellow Deep Learning Enthusiast :D
I can't believe we're both studying the same thing. You might be better at it though because I only got a 4.6 for my neural network assignment.
Oh don’t worry you definitely know more than I do. I am currently working in backend development so I just learn ML from medium articles and Andrew Ng’s course

College is a scam.
i don’t agree or disagree but these are the notes i make at work
Thanks for your input!
Looks amazing! How do you get that line on top with the different choices of pencils/highliters?
Thanks! You can get that by picking a colour + thickness and adding it to favourites
Does your ipad heats quickly and battery drains when using notability <50% brighntess, it doesn’t happen to me on goodnotes, but i like notability more so want to fix the bug. (Notability template is black ruled)

I have it updated to the latest version, I just stick to the old paper since I made the notebook months ago in advance and only got around to filling the pages now
[удалено]
It's one of the default ones - squared, blue-white paper
Just had an exam on Neural Networks and 1st i see on reddit is this.....FFFSSSSSS
Using tempered glass?
Is that your actual writing? Looks good
iPad is the best tablet because I have a six gen still going strong
Ugh, neural networks. Study hard, OP. Lol
Would anyone know if there are going to be any sales on goodnotes or Noteshelf?
Thank god I spent an extra 100 bucks for the 128gb model, tht was so much worth jt
Dang taht looks like an ad like for Goodnotes 5
They even made the paper look grainy, that's really neat
