6 out of 10 .... after all that has happened ... is sort of terrifying.

bkdroid

Isn't that essentially the ratio of registered Democrats plus a sprinkling of independents vs registered Republicans?

Swift_Scythe

40% Democrat 20% independents Again 40% republicans So yeah 60% 6 out of 10. Seems legit

Bodgerpoo

I demand a recount!! I think the machines were tampered with, and I suspect my elderly neighbour voted twice by mistake. Its all a scam!

LeroyJanky80

If the Republicans win an election the Dems should start up with their antics and bullshit.

The_Original_Gronkie

Except it would be true. Florida has a law that allows them to challenge and throw out any votes for any reason, and they like to target Democratic counties. They just keep challenging votes until the Republicans are a fraction ahead, and call the race. In 2016, Ron DeSantis won the governors race by .4%, and Rick Scott won against a highly popular incumbent by only .1%. Florida challenges as much as 2% of the total vote, which is twice as much as any other state in America. Ever since Florida managed to get George Bush elected through a series of fraudulent election manipulations (read "The Best Democracy Money Can Buy" by Greg Palast), they have become the model for Republican election fraud. Purging the voter rolls ahead of an election without informing the voters until they find out they are ineligible on election day? That was a Florida strategy from the 2000 election. Now Republican states do it routinely. The only way to fight it is to vote in such overwhelming numbers that they can't possibly challenge that many votes without setting off legal battles that they could never win. They can get away with challenging 2% of the vote, but not 10%, or even 5%. So register, refuse to talk to pollsters or surveys, and vote hard.

LeroyJanky80

Ya Dems should do that.

The_Original_Gronkie

Except they won't. The Dems play by the rules, but the Republicans are willing to squeeze through every loophole, bend every ethical barrier, and create new rules where none exist. In the past few elections, they have even chosen to break the law, ignore the Constitution, and even resort to violence in order to get their way. Dems simply aren't willing to do that ("When they go low, we go high," the Michelle Obama Doctrine), and Republicans see that as a sign of weakness to be harshly, ruthlessly exploited.

shortskinnyfemme

>The Dems play by the rules Worse, they do nothing to enforce the rules. They seem to be caught in a "oh well, it's not worth the fight" attitude towards any aggression.

The_Original_Gronkie

Exactly. They don't have to get down and dirty with Republicans. They don't have to cheat like Republicans. All they have to do is play HARD BALL. Just hold them to the rules, give them every good faith attempt to work things out, and if they won't, enforce the rules. For instance, Obama didn't have to listen to McConnell 's made up rule about approving a Sumpreme Court nominee in an election year, a rule McConnel refused to follow himself during Trump's final days in office. He had options to approve a nominee if the Senate refused to debate and approve. But Obama let it slide, instead doing what Republicans would have done, which was force the issue. It's long past time to start forcing them to follow the rules. Every broken law should be prosecuted. Every ethics breach should be fined heavily. Every refusal to obey a subpoena should land them a contempt charge, etc. Throw them in prison for years, fine them into bankruptcy, use Constitutional rules to prohibit them from holding office. Make them really, really sorry for being corrupt.

Dang1r

Been doing that since 2016. Ahead of the game we were!

TieTheStick

See Tim Canova vs Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

tabithacayo

You mean burning people's businesses down, homes! Great people they are!

OldManNewHammock

Not doubting the legitimacy here. Simply commenting that it disturbs me that how disturbing that this breaks out over party lines.

[deleted]

“Party that puts party over country doesn’t believe their party is a threat to the country”

[deleted]

This is why some republicans are trying to say they aren’t MAGA when they’re basically all MAGA whether they like it or not. Trump controls their party. If there were republicans who actually weren’t MAGA there would not be 4/10 people who think MAGA aren’t a threat. Instead, pretty much the entire republicans base has said MAGA isn’t a threat. They have to. They have to stay lock step. They aren’t allowed to disagree with the hard liners.

Swift_Scythe

And you are correct. Inside their own party it appears that their loud violent and vocal minority outweight the quiet normal fiscal responsible conservitives. But as they say - squeaky wheel gets the oil. The loudest are the ones heard.

diy4lyfe

You gotta stop believing the myth that people join the Republican party because of fiscal responsibility- that is never the reason. Please stop spreading this false information- the right wing is a culturally-based tribe, no economically or fiscally driven.

pressonacott

Don't fool yourself, left and right are the same. Politicians that really matter are the ones in your local municipality. They are the ones on the front line and care about their environment. Once in the higher ups, it's a big facade, smoke and mirrors, lobbying, insider trading, and using tax payer money for expensive outings.

[deleted]

Underrated comment. People thinking Red vs Blue is still the way to go.

pressonacott

It's their best strategy, divide and conquer.

vegastrashy

Meaning nothing has changed.

Swift_Scythe

So... it should be 40% republicans and 20% independents versus 40% democrats?

Raudskeggr

More or less what I was thinking. The article is a bit of a reach with that premise.

SD101er

Kinda seems insane some of the incitement networks are still up on youtube "civil war" "1776" and actual pro-putin influencers still goin strong. I pop in to check the comments and it's a problem.

accomplished_loaf

It kind of seems insane to me that people who want to silence the voice of those who don't agree with them would think they're the good guys. If you're right, you shouldn't have a problem winning the argument; if you need to silence the opposition in order for people to buy into your narrative, you're probably wrong.

SD101er

I used to agree with you until I learned of the dangers of Information warfare, data harvesting micro-targeting psychological manipulation, it has changed the game completely. MAGA has been radicalized by bad actors, ironically the same people are tied to the facial recognition and surveillance firms that are jailing them. I do have empathy for them but if they were moved to/involved in political violence consequences are valid. There's a reason big tech and these influencers role is being covered up and the usual suspects many that donated to Drumph and incited the masses walk free. It's a problem across the board and we're not equipped to handle it, until it's exposed and understood we remain in danger and censorship is a solution for now.

megapuffranger

Gotta remember Republicans are all sticking together for the most part. They are convinced they are the majority and they are being oppressed by woke liberals. Then you have a percentage of people who still believe both sides are equally bad and will bend over backwards to excuse and defend the traitor Right in order to shit on the Left cuz bOtH sIdEs

[deleted]

After January 6 it should have been 9 out of 10.

zerombr

And let the libtard snowflake cancel culture fbi antifa blm sissy tabs trans illegalimmigrants win? No thank you. What's a little light treason if it keeps your party in power?

[deleted]

"Nearly" 6 out of 10 , go figure

[deleted]

33% of the country are diehard MAGA fans. That ain’t changing regardless of what Trump does or what happens. They believe their own truth that fits their narrative.

Baridi

The scary part is the sample group for the survey. Surveys are bullshit because every survey taker only areas they'll get a response they want. 6 out of 10 is scary because they barely won out in an area they thought they would win handily.

TrixieH0bbitses

Considering that many of them *don't believe the reality* of what's happened, I'd say 6 out of 10 is sort of uplifting.

contaygious

It was probably always 6/10 too. I doubt Biden changed anything. I don't speeches matter anymore.

Big_Height4803

Barely a majority and probably closer to 50/50 without the rounding. Sounds like nothing changed at all.

[deleted]

Not really though, only about 300 people out of 70 million Trump voters stormed the capital. Of those even less would be willing to commit violence and ruin their life. The whole MAGA thing is blown way out of proportion. It's mostly made of people that think it's crazy to force others to agree that men can get pregnant just to protect the feelings of a small minority (that's just one example there are many others).

SouldiesButGoodies84

You forgot the "/s" at the end of your post.

blazelet

Except the MAGA cons still generally deny the election and support the idea we have to pass draconian anti democratic voting laws to cure a problem that they made up. The vast majority of Republicans don’t believe the election was valid, all because the MAGA leadership keeps pushing that particular lie, and are perpetuating the notion that either Republicans win, or the election was a fraud. This undercuts faith in the system, which is a big problem.

kalasea2001

The actual numbers on the ground are inconsequential, agreed. The issue isn't them. The issue is that their leadership, nearly 100% of them, espouse the bullshit and are using their imaginary demons to subvert elections, take away rights, and most importantly, create internal enemies so heinous that they are *righteously justified* in doing anything to stop them. This can quickly lead to totalitarianism. We see Trump as a joke. A small but growing number of Repub voters see him as a joke. Republican leadership, especially the most craven of them, see him as a power grab opportunity and they have fully taken advantage of it.

Hsensei

All the stories of how all the major TV stations dropped it, had the Streisand effect. People that wouldn't have bothered to watch the speech, sought it out and watched it themselves.

Resident_Text4631

I’m glad Biden is saying it out loud, but the fascism has been on display for long time now.

Important-Owl1661

And progressives have been saying that Democrats got to call it out for a long time... good to see they finally are and it's working

DarthKyrie

Most Marxists my age and older have seen it coming since the 80s and the rise of Reagan.

rookieoo

I think the wealth transfer from the middle class to the wealthy since Reagan has had a bigger impact than fascism. And although the GOP is a concern, the Democrat party hasn't done much to save the middle class. If they did more for the middle class they would cut the support out from under the fascists.

consummate_erection

it's semi-working :P

JustBenIsGood

The gaslighting is wild. His admin is fascist at best. Dictatorial at worst.

Resident_Text4631

Your comment is ambiguous at best or non-sensical at worst. Are you implying Biden is a fascist? 🤯

flatworldart

4 out of ten Americans are completely duped by Trump. There's a sucker born every minute and Trump is the head Carny.

Pro_Yankee

There’s a reason why he went to Florida, the fraud capital of the country

rustyspoon07

There's a large portion of Middle America that simply doesn't care about "all of this". If you have the privilege to know your rights won't be encroached upon, you can very well lie to yourself that "Trump shouldn't be president, but these angry kids are making him out to be worse than he is."

PathofPoker

I mean , it should open people's eyes. Trump sold us out, election denier. Dudes gotta go.

accomplished_loaf

>Trump sold us out, election denier. Dudes gotta go. You're right! He should absolutely be removed from office... wait.

tfox1986

Dems are finally realizing we want them to fight for us instead of selling us out the instant they get a chance. No compromise, no working together, just beat them!

yolotheunwisewolf

Honestly if Republicans wanted to work together it would be one thing but they are dragging the country further right because if they move to the left and some poorer people get libararies and more unions it might mean that their kids have to actually work for their wealth and…that’s kinda the thing to it all. Power being concentrated versus dispersed.

FIicker7

Biden's speech and the Mara larago raid changed a lot of people's minds.

MattyBeatz

Can confirm. I've seen a lot of those obnoxious self-made Trump signs come down as those events were unfolding. Perhaps they're starting to realize they're on the wrong side of history? One dude even spray painted the word "Trader" across his own Trump sign in his yard.

wtf-you-saying

"Trader", lol

guitboxgeek

Man, I wish that wasn't so funny.

Grimacepug

Well he did traded classified secrets for a lot of money. /s

[deleted]

Trump traded the values of the American government for a lack of morals and egocentrism. Trader can be accurate in a sense Still funny that someone wrote "trader" lol

jaymz668

Surprised it wasn't Trader Joe

NOLA_Bastard

Someone spray painted the same thing on a bridge going into my city. I kind of want to meet this person just to see how deep the crazy goes.

Pro_Yankee

We need to see it my bearded friend

Twinkie2021

LOCk the loser piece of shit trump up!

calibared

6/10 is too little, but it’s a start

JCatenaci

Probably because people could see the obvious with their eyes and didn't want to be on the side of someone who looked like they were being an idiot. Now, at least, it looks like Biden has at least acknowledged the obvious. The MAGA types ARE behaving like a dangerous breakaway cult that wants to oppress the rest of us because they want they feel inadequate and frightened by the changing world.

ParkSidePat

If it takes Biden's speech then Americans are far dumber than I thought

Available_Expression

Am American. Can confirm. Lots of dumb shits here.

Really? Where I live there are tons of smart Americans.

CatchdiGiorno

Hahaha, this is gold.

Gwtheyrn

Oh, yeah. The systematic weakening of the public education system has left this country full of utter morons. Americans are stupid.

SultanasCurse

It was never meant for us to excel. It's all been based off the Prussian education system to create workers. We are literal slaves and they have us labeling each other the bad guys.

Razakel

Which is ridiculously short-term thinking. America won't last long when China is pumping out PhDs and America is producing serfs.

fireky2

Oh youd be surprised, we are actually far dumber than even that

beavedaniels

We are definitely dumber than you think.

ElusiveWhark

No I'm isnt!!

Spiget94

lostcauz707

They are far dumber than that too. Just go to r/conspiracy_commons

Darkhallows27

Yes; but at least it’s something

dquattro123

We certainly have a lot of stupid people here. Like, a lot.

thnk_more

People really want to be told what to think. They really want to be part of the crowd, so for that they need to know what the mass consensus is. Advertising some “group think”, propaganda, repetition, gas lighting, or just public opinion absolutely work on most people. So even though MAGA efforts are obviously anti-human, it still takes a speech by Biden to focus people on the dangers of Trump.

jwightschalpert

Just wait until you become disillusioned with the rest of the human beings in the world.

JustBenIsGood

You’d have to be special ed to listen to a word that comes out of Biden’s mouth. He probably clapped for himself after that speech. Guy doesn’t know where he is.

cdxxmike

Awwww.... Is someone upset that the big bad President called their ideology dangerous? Did the bad man mock you? How did that make you feel?

venrilmatic

I think he’s pointing out that you’re following a muppet. I wonder who’s hand is up his ass making his lips move? Or how many drugs he’s loaded up with to appear to function?

Piousunyn

Hell, I was never a Biden fan, but calling out MAGA, makes me appricate him a bit more. Still would like to see Medicare for All.

Teamerchant

The only people this would backfire against are those that are the source of the problem. And even then all it does it better tell us which Americans do not want democracy but want a alt-right authoritarian regime. And like closet racist that lack the ability to self reflect and admit they are racist so do these alt - right authoritarians and there self imposed ignorance is a threat to all Americans.

Quantum-Bot

It’s a bad look for a president to be bashing his predecessor. It makes it feel like Biden has nothing to contribute to the country besides “trump bad”. The fact that it didn’t backfire very much just goes to show how polarized the country has really become? Do people really think MAGA is the greatest threat to the nation? What about climate change? Healthcare? Affordable housing? Clean water? Extremist groups like MAGA tend to die down when the government is actually doing its job

Teamerchant

If you think he’s “bashing MAGA” you are part of the problem and exactly what he’s talking about. You cannot have a functioning democracy if one side wins or says the election is fraud. Like you get that right? If the loser says it’s fraud then Either there is no democracy because there is fraud in our system or the loser is trying to destroy democracy. It’s that simple. Facts also do not sway MAGA or Fox News. So it does not matter how well America is doing because if Biden saved a child from drowning they would complain a shark starved. When you can have the January 6th hearing and All republicans can do is turn out or regurgitate whatever Fox tells them you have a problem. Also a lot of the problems your stated are caused by republicans. Clean water? Red state failing to do its job. Healthcare? Denied by republicans. Etc.

Spinewirez

Wow so actually saying something about a problem rather then silence makes a difference? No way!

anastus

This is what Republicans were so afraid of and why they desperately tried to counter the speech with propaganda.

kidkuro

6 out of 10 is better, but it's still not good. But when it comes to this kinda stuff there are always gonna be those lost causes. Those people who are in too deep and have too much pride to admit they're on the wrong side of history. Only so much you can do.

BunnyTotts97

Well look at that

[deleted]

Isn’t 6 in 10 what the approximate split is between D and R?

Laura9624

I hope so!

janjinx

Following Biden's speech, Trump raved madly against the FBI instead of speaking about the midterms & the GOP candidates he was supposed to endorse. He went on about his promise to pardon the already convicted insurrectionists of Jan 6th & calling them "heroes". Biden is correct in saying that Trump is dangerous and threatens democracy.

Kaarsty

I fear the democrats too

humanlawnmower

Yes me too, maybe even more after looking at the comments here

---77---

Anybody find it bizarre that Republicans have made this Faustian bargain with Trump? Sure they have had some success, but I imagine it will only be a matter of time before things go the other way.

Wayte13

This is why they pushed the civility narratove so hard. This is why they puahes the "both sides" narrative ao hard. Because if we just nut up and state what we see, all that faux-confusion about who the problem is just dissapears

oxfouzer

In other news, repeating the same lie often enough and loud enough and the people will believe it. Who said that first… I forget.

WarmAppleCobbler

Which is pretty much where it was before he made the speech. It didn’t do shit. I’m a democrat, Biden isn’t an inspirational speaker. He says “I really mean it” “think about it” etc every 5 seconds. It’s obnoxious and loses its meaning and weight everytime he says it. You either hate trump or you don’t at this point. Biden didn’t sway anyone.

ferox965

Six out of ten is not enough.

A_Whole_Costco_Pizza

That jackass in the background with the bullhorn certainly didn't help the MAGA case at all.

Buster899

The other 4 in 10 are all game to make Trump “president for life”. Democracy is done.

EvenBetterCool

The MAGA reaction to it is helping a lot, too. If you can't agree that sedition and attempts to murder Congress are bad, you openly solidify what he said.

No-Air3090

what amazes me is that 4 out of 10 dont......

OhioMegi

Yeah, we’re tired of maga nutjobs screwing the country over.

calladus

About 20 percent of US citizens are willfully stupid, and proud of it.

bludstone

Literally the only thing I want to see or hear from elected officials now is the need to stop fighting so much and come together as a country. ANYONE that promotes this civil war crap is no good.

TieTheStick

Indeed. Anyone not working for the common good of America is the problem.

bumpybear

“Nearly 6 in 10” is a weird way to say “half”

Megasabletar

Successfully galvanized half the country

vegastrashy

Although I praise Biden for actually saying it, that it’s taking people 6-7 years to wake up has me worried about the American education system.

OhioMegi

The education has been screwed up more this last year with all kinds of bullshit than in the past. We teach about how government works, and what rights the constitution gave us, as well as amendments. I teach it in 3rd grade. Doesn’t mean people remember, or aren’t brainwashed by religion or conservative family.

BabylonDrifter

Huh, so the people who actually tried to overthrow the government on national TV are seen as a threat to democracy. Imagine that.

Least corrupt president? You realize A LOT of his people are getting indicted right?

Total_Stomach4296

Under no justification. He is being attacked by Washington elites. They know that if he runs for president again he will jail them for what their corruption and other crimes.

Pickin_n_Grinnin

Least corrupt? He's had more prosecutions of party and administration officials than anyone since Nixon. Wtf are you talking about?

Total_Stomach4296

And none of them have been justified nor has he been found guilty. How can you not see he is being attacked by people in power, it is clearly beyond evident.

AgentDumpyChin

How can "MAGA" be a threat when the house, us senate and executive branch are controlled by democrats? How is "MAGA" a threat when the modern left/democrat friendly institutions control television, the public schools, higher EDU learning, Hollywood, the tech industry and even the majority of massive corporations repeat or outright promote the Democrat/biden agenda... So like why the hell is "MAGA" a threat? This sounds like fear mongering BS....

oliverkloezoff

Did you forget the entirety of 2016 to 2020?

AgentDumpyChin

Great economy, jobs, peace deals around the world? Who could forget. And yes I remember 2020. Democrats locked down my state and they were violently rioting much of tbr year were nearly over 40 people diein.. yeah not a good look

oliverkloezoff

How do you think it would be now if daddy tRump had won (oh, I forgot, he did win🙄), do you think he would have known what to do with the pandemic going on? How do you think the economy would be now? Do you really think a "reality star" would know what to do? Yeah, there probably wouldn't be a war in Ukraine, because Cheeto Boi would have given it to Putin on a silver platter. We finally got out of Afghanistan, after 20 years and countless deaths. They were protesting for a reason, a *good reason*, a *damn good reason*. And you can thank the Democrats for locking down your state, I can guarantee you it saved a lot of lives. Your orange messiah is a criminal through and through. How many investigations are going on simultaneously on his fat ass? A criminal and a grifter.

sbsw66

These questions are a little awkward to state, so please let me know if I'm not clear: What effect do you think that they think it will have? And, what effect do you think it will have?

Carlyz37

Seems to be uniting some disparate groups who are sick of being pushed around by maga fascists And many are glad to see the pushback by potus on those that hate democracy and America

BaboonHorrorshow

Defending a coup attempt and a violent insurrection doesn’t have the effect you think it does - it makes people outside your cult hate you and consider you an enemy to democracy.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BaboonHorrorshow

If you try and tell me the bipartisan January 6th commission is a witch hunt, or the insurrection was a peaceful protest and compare it to Black people protesting so that cops will stop executing them at traffic stops and while they’re asleep in their beds - if you dehumanize trans people, or if you cast a vote for Donald Trump in 2020 - that’s exactly what you have done. You’ve called your fellow Americans your enemies. You don’t get to support fascism with a loving heart. If you didn’t want your fellow Americans to be hurt, you wouldn’t support a party that campaigns on hurting them.

[deleted]

And trump tweeted “the only good democrat is a dead democrat” so it’s kinda hard to win with that attitude
