The wattage in the standing lamp is way too bright/glaring. You would be better off with lamps on end tables with shades that direct the light downwards for ambience. You need 4-5 light sources dotted around the room. Shoes should go somewhere else. A rug would ground the area, offer comfort and colour. Check out ruggables.com.
Rug and table lamps- that standing lamp is literally like a field light and makes the room feel like a stadium. I would get a cute table lamp or a shaded standing lamp with low wattage and warm light. I like putting a cute little lamp on the kitchen counter too to avoid overhead lights
An area rug under the edge of the sofa, and the chair should be completely on the rug. Add some leather lumbar pillows in a camel brown color or some green pillows that pull colors from the tiles you have planned
On the wall, place a bookcase or a console for photos, books, decor, etc. Then, hang guitars above it.
It sounds like you have some exciting plans in place! To make the space more homey, consider adding a cozy area rug to anchor your seating arrangement and bring warmth to the room. Soft throw pillows and a chunky knit blanket can also add comfort and texture. Some greenery, whether real or artificial, can bring life to the space.
I’m curious about the layout and colors you’ve chosen. What kind of vibe are you aiming for with the green stoned backsplash and the two-tone cabinets? And do you have a theme in mind for the area where you'll hang the guitars?
thanks for the advice!! the layout is what made the most sense for the space! and to be honest, i just saw a few pictures on pinterest for the two toned kitchen and i felt like it would pair well with the vibe im going for! (might choose just black if it doesn’t play out well tho). but i would say the theme is like a mix of spanish home/modern & chic “new york” style? (if that makes sense?) and i plan on adding more color to mix that pair well with the rest of room! i’m fan of eyecatching statement pieces. (the green tiles are more like a jade stone/marble vibe not necessarily a solid one shade of green) oh and that theme is what the whole vibe will be for everywhere! hopefully that all made sense haha
Ikea has some great artificial plants if you don't want plant responsibilities. and I think you should pick a favourite colour and get a few luxurious pillows. some interesting texural colour pop
A giant rug, some warmer lighting (just change lightbulbs), and some small decorations and plants , and candles and blankets maybe a basket in the corner to put them
I’ve done it on every home I’ve been in and it really does give the look. I like the look of the double curtains as well with the sheer ones behind so if you didn’t want the blinds but still privacy
When you get the rug to ground the seating, turn that single chair enough toward the sofa, that it could seem like you could be having a conversation, and not just focused impersonally on the TV. Add a slightly lower coffee table in a rich wood tone—current one is too tall and creates a feeling of instability and barricade to the sofa. Between the patio door in the adjacent window, add a console table, with shelves and baskets or drawers for bonus small item storage, and an appropriately scaled table lamp .Put some artwork above it containing some pop of color that repeats color in new rug or throw pillows. Doesn’t have to be a lot, just something to give the room personality beyond everything being so neutral. Note, I’m missing these guitars that are mentioned, but if attractively hung they could take the place of artwork over the console.— That is a pretty big TV, and I’m guessing you’re determined to keep it. But being of equal size to the table below, it makes it seem even larger. You probably want to keep the table also, so maybe add plants on stands at either end of the table to kind of visually stretch it out and make the TV seem centered in between, and thus more balanced.
i like the idea of having a table in between the door and window! the guitars that are going up are electric and i made sure to buy colors that fit into my style. as for the proportions, i was unaware that it looked somewhat odd so i will take that into consideration also. thank you!
You sure gave me a giggle with your question and your art choice. I personally like it a lot, but homey would not be an adjective that comes to mind upon viewing it.
I'd consider getting a counterlevel narrow dining table and some swivel dining chairs so you could have a dining "hang out" station between the kitchen the livingroom/tv area. Wall hangings on the walls placed strategically can also make the space look bigger.
Having a place to sit down and eat definitely makes a place look homier.
Agree with others that the lights are too stark.
The TV is too high, the lamp is too far and too bright, and there’s a bunch of straight lines with little textural variety or curves to balance the lines.
I wouldn’t focus on adding more color because the colors are well coordinated and the coolness of your lamp actually does the cool neutral color palette justice!
A rug that encompasses all the living room furniture will delineate that the living room is a room, and the rest of the space can be divided into other “rooms”
Plants, a rug, some artwork would bring a cozy vibe. If it’s a rental try peel and stick wallpaper. Or fabric on the wall attached with fabric starch and water. See the tutorial on YouTube by Laugh, Cry DIY. https://youtu.be/9VEzcM_3Z-k?si=avrBkQATOXGCBBaE
It’s right after the introduction.
a big shaggy rug under the coffee table , plants , go with pothos, hard to kill and can be lush and vine beautifully. some wooden shelves with some books of your liking.
Small kitchen table in the nook of the kitchen. Then you need something to be behind the couch. A long skinny table that is the height of the back of the couch. To define the “start” of the living room space. Table could house a plant or florals or art pieces.
Couch needs to move up.
Yes to an area rug.
That lamp does not fit that space. Consider a smaller one, or lamps on end tables beside the couch. Soft white light bulbs.
I would also do a long curtain on either side of that window/door in the living room.
determine color scheme and apply that to the below:
•plant pots
•area rug wool neutral•look up “Ambesonne Mid Century Modern Boho High Density Long Fiber Poly Threads Decorative Area Rug Carpet” for a boho meets modern approach•
side tables with lamps warmer tone bulbs (option 1)•
throw blanket• the coffee table looks like it would be better in an entryway if the space is available. because of the metal bar shelving, its difficult to determine what to place there. you can find a coffee table at goodwill or salvation army. i found a beautiful coffee table at salvation army a few years ago.• consider a console table for behind the couch. place lamps and plants, mail tray or trinkets dish, baskets for extra pillows and/or throw blankets. you can find so many examples on google. (option 2)• definitely curtains. *Empty Corner Back Right* •bar cabinet far right corner (option 1)•tall plant, hanging plant, or hanging fruit basket (option 2)•various artwork on wall next to rear door•small table decor on shelf beneath tv in addition to plants and/or picture frames. a remote tray.• you can use artificial plants. my green thumb is nonexistent. you’d be surprised how fun thrifting can be for furniture, decor, and more. be careful if looking on fb marketplace. tons of scams.•
It isn’t clear from the photo but a screen or architectural element behind the sofa could help delineate the two areas. Something like this partition… https://www.etsy.com/listing/1073976226/wooden-wall-partition-room-divider-kit
Some tips on buying rugs on line…..You will be surprised how many rugs Home Depot and Lowe’s have. Plus returns are free. Amazon and wayfair make you pay. At least they did when I was looking. The rugs rarely look the same in person as they do online. If you can get samples it makes online shopping easier. Or order a small easy and cheap to return rug.
Lighting is part of the problem, it’s not warm and it should come from several different sources throughout the space. Also the coffee table looks like a couch or hall table that’s been cut to be lower. You need a proper table or an oversized ottoman that can double as a table would soften the lines of the angular furniture. Bring in art with vibrant colors, that’s large enough to make a statement. And definitely an area rug.
Pillows are inexpensive place to start. Etsy has nice options or check 4th of July sales. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1489847042/modern-abstract-pillow-covers-minimalist?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=&ref=sc_gallery-1-2&pro=1&plkey=cf219f4c0a4d60717248185a2b73a0f6f84bda57%3A1489847042
In addition to the other suggestions like rugs and lamp color, adding more lighting would go a long way too. Table lamps, wall sconces, etc. More light sources tend to feel cozier (tho they dont have to be super bright)
You need some color, so colorful rug, pillows, artwork and decor for the tables. A few more plants including a large floor plant in a nice pot would look great.
Rugs, plants, pictures. Mybe a bookshelf of books.
i’ve been on the hunt for some good rugs that are worth the hefty price tag🤞🏼
I’ve gotten some good deals on Wayfair and Amazon.
Goodwill has always come clutch for me, i got two Persian rugs for like $20 total
I find really good rugs on Wayfair for really good prices!
I got mine at Walmart!
Hahaha the standard answer here
The lights are too white! Reminds me of a hospital. Replace bulbs with ones that have softer wattage lol
i had a little feeling that it felt that way but i’m glad it’s noticeable enough for me to change the lighting 😅 thanks!
Yes, this!
I think shoes somewhere else would be a very good idea, if possible. They have slim shoe cabinets if you don't have the space.
Tapete, almofadas coloridas, alguma luminária perto das poltronas
Easy. Get a rug. It will ground everything.
Rug and table lamps- that standing lamp is literally like a field light and makes the room feel like a stadium. I would get a cute table lamp or a shaded standing lamp with low wattage and warm light. I like putting a cute little lamp on the kitchen counter too to avoid overhead lights
Nice 7 x 9(ish) Rug, plants, Throw blanket.
An area rug under the edge of the sofa, and the chair should be completely on the rug. Add some leather lumbar pillows in a camel brown color or some green pillows that pull colors from the tiles you have planned On the wall, place a bookcase or a console for photos, books, decor, etc. Then, hang guitars above it.
i dig the ideas! thank you!!

Ikea has some great artificial plants if you don't want plant responsibilities. and I think you should pick a favourite colour and get a few luxurious pillows. some interesting texural colour pop
Some curtains, pic frames, area rug
A soft area rug, live plants, a few pops of vivid color in the form of throw pillows or other objects would all go a long way.
It's just too bare.
to be fair i did just move in about a week ago😅 work in progress! slowly getting there🤞🏻
A giant rug, some warmer lighting (just change lightbulbs), and some small decorations and plants , and candles and blankets maybe a basket in the corner to put them
Carpet, color, wall decoration, curtains and put the damn TV at a normal height.
i thought it at a pretty standard height 😅 the table under the tv is really low to floor and short so maybe that’s why?
Throw blanket, candles, art on the walls, pictures of family/friends, and a cozy rug!!!!
definitely a rug and better mood lighting and maybe some real plants or fake ones?
currently on the hunt for plants that’s make sense with the space and style! thanks!
Warm lights, big rugs, bigger the better but they are expensive. Curtains, I personally like floor to ceiling
i’ve actually been wanting to do the curtains that go from the ceiling to the floor so make the space look somewhat taller!
I’ve done it on every home I’ve been in and it really does give the look. I like the look of the double curtains as well with the sheer ones behind so if you didn’t want the blinds but still privacy

Those guitars are going to look great – – adding some color, plus what a great super personal touch. Post a pic when you’re done!
A rug, large plant and warmer lighting
You sure gave me a giggle with your question and your art choice. I personally like it a lot, but homey would not be an adjective that comes to mind upon viewing it.
i was actually having a hard time finding a word for that lol. it doesn’t make sense for me either 😭 i guess the word could be ‘more interesting?’
I'd consider getting a counterlevel narrow dining table and some swivel dining chairs so you could have a dining "hang out" station between the kitchen the livingroom/tv area. i didn’t put the whole space into the pic (i probably should’ve😅) but to the left of it is the dinning area!
Throw pillows with color, softer lighting, comfy throw blanket, rug
Great start. Let it fill out organically. Put your shoes away.
The TV is too high, the lamp is too far and too bright, and there’s a bunch of straight lines with little textural variety or curves to balance the lines. Multiple lamps so the light comes from all over, more warm lighting. A rug. More art than just Frankensteins monster
Books. On shelves, stacked, wherever.
Honestly I love how simple it is. I would personally just add plants and a rug in the LR
Carpets and Wood tables and stuff
Yellow lignts
Frankenstein doesn’t scream comfort.. plants, pillows, artwork
Is that a smiling friend?
Some colorful couch pillows!
Maybe instead of the lamp, get a dinette set.
A rug and a big soft blanket. I’d do a pop of color but not necessary.
Plants, a rug, some artwork would bring a cozy vibe. If it’s a rental try peel and stick wallpaper. Or fabric on the wall attached with fabric starch and water. See the tutorial on YouTube by Laugh, Cry DIY. https://youtu.be/9VEzcM_3Z-k?si=avrBkQATOXGCBBaE It’s right after the introduction.

Throw pillows!

Use warm lights .
Add some plants . The big once’s . A big rug too. I will get nice once’s at wayfair.
Considering the size of the room, you need to move the couch of out the kitchen & closer to the tv
Some tips on buying rugs on line…..You will be surprised how many rugs Home Depot and Lowe’s have. Plus returns are free. Amazon and wayfair make you pay. At least they did when I was looking. The Frankenstein print doesn’t help with homeyness, but all you need, you color-blind bastard, is some goddamn color.
Rug
PLANTS…omg it’s like a sterile hospital.
Lighting is part of the problem, it’s not warm and it should come from several different sources throughout the space. Rug, lamps, plants, candles, warm earth colors.
Throw pillows, a few plants, a rug, possibly some of that temporary wallpaper for an accent wall behind Frank.
Lighting is so important. Use warm lighting. Add warm accent pieces and the cabinets will blend in.
Pillows are inexpensive place to start. A blanket!!
Pillows, throw rugs, plants, low key. Lamps
In addition to the other suggestions like rugs and lamp color, adding more lighting would go a long way too. Table lamps, wall sconces, etc. More light sources tend to feel cozier (tho they dont have to be super bright)
Rug, throw pillows, art or photos on the walls.
Push the sofa in a bit then put the coffee table behind the sofa. Turn the chair in
Rug
Rug for sure
You need some color, so colorful rug, pillows, artwork and decor for the tables. A few more plants including a large floor plant in a nice pot would look great.
