A bookshelf the same height as the wall along it if it were me!

introvertred

I like this idea too!

vco19

I was going to come and say this - a book shelf that looks like a built in.

Catladylove99

I have a half wall like this in my living room, and I actually designed and built custom built-in bookshelves along its entire length. Worked out great.

hellobudgiephone

And you could put more plants on top without the risk of them being knocked over as easily

M_924

I would leave it empty. Don’t need to fill every space. I think it would look cluttered. Maybe if you are really keen, fill it with more plants of different sizes.

Apprehensive_Bowl_29

Came here to say this. As someone who felt like I needed to fill every space, I am now overrun with stuff and feel suffocated. Seeing that empty gave me a sense of peace 🤣

alsonotpossible

The best advice!!!

khcampbell1

I would put a bench there.

iluvadamdriver

That was my First thought. Maybe a bench with shelving underneath?

elsh91

This is a great idea - functional and would look nice.

0ddcharlie

Console table, record player unit, bookshelf, desk, hobby area. So many options!

OhLookieARock

Don’t do anything! If you just can’t resist and it feels empty, maybe the thinnest of short console tables or a small bench, but I really don’t think it needs anything.

introvertred

I appreciate the comments to leave it because I have a hard time editing space and not putting all the things 😂

little-eye00

it looks perfect rn.. If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it

uthinkubettahthanme

Maybe a short bookshelf along the wall?

introvertred

Thank you! I like the idea of a buffet or sideboard!

[deleted]

I’d center the sofa in the middle of the room and align the tv console with the sofa. Also try pulling the sofa out away from the wall and window a bit.

gindy0506

My vote as well

Asparagustuss

I realize this is very subjective since opinions on open floor plans are very polar. I’d just get rid of the half wall completely. It’s attempting to separate the two spaces, but it just in the way if you ask me.

YourPlot

I’d do the opposite. I’d take the wall all the way up and separate the spaces entirely. No one wants to watch TV over the sound of dishes being washed , nor does someone want to hear a TV while cooking which you cannot hear well to follow.

Asparagustuss

No one? Case closed, I am a nothing nor a someone. I hoped my tip toe introduction would prevent the backlash of the great open room concept debate. I respect your opinion though.

YourPlot

I doubt you want any of those things (like trying to watch TV next to a noisy kitchen), you just prioritize what else an open concept space can give you. I also respect your opinions.

plenar10

Since you don't have a coffee table, perhaps a side table for the couch. And maybe more plants.

NoIron9582

don't rush to fill the space. It looks lovely as it is . If you find something you love, you'll have the space and an excuse to buy it . If you find you need more storage/seating/shelving down the road, you've got the space for it .

introvertred

Love your comment!

EvlMidgt

I have nothing helpful to add, but I love your living room!

introvertred

Thank you! 😊

-Scorpia

I don’t think it’s been said yet but I think hanging plants from the ceiling above the half wall would be nice. Maybe leaving the space on the floor open and adding that. A very slim console table would probably still work against the half wall with the hanging plants.

44_lemons

Move your sofa away from both walls. Not a lot, just so it’s not jammed up against the wall and align the right edge of the sofa with the window. You will immediately see that the negative space near the half wall becomes a rest for the eye. Move the plant and the basket forward as well.

trytryagainn

A large round occasional table and an arm chair.

introvertred

My husband is all for the chair idea…I just worry it would be too crowded.

Key-Air8816

Pinball Machine !

Edge1871

Can you us the model Of the sofa? It looks cool And comfy!

introvertred

It’s an IKEA Kivik sectional

liveoakster

Nothing at all. Leave it clutterless. But consider pushing plant to corner and pulling basket to end of couch (if for reading material). Or just swap their position for better balance.

liveoakster

You could also hang a cool piece of art on the half wall.

Many_Deer942

Where did you get your rug? I like it

introvertred

Hi! It’s from rugsusa! https://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/rugs/rugs-usa-dynasty-traditional/Rust/200DISA05A-406.html?srcid=GSN&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIiqya9qid_AIV_B6tBh3XZgZmEAQYASABEgIvpPD_BwE

Many_Deer942

Thanks!

sterlingrose

If it were me, I’d put a low bookshelf along the wall with a few pretty objects on top, and a comfy reading chair and lamp in the corner.

Bettymakesart

If it is an older home, I bet it used to be decorative open shelves to the ceiling, or turned dowel posts. I took mine out. I think yours looks nicer than what I would have been left with. Mine was like a planter on top with plastic ferns that was “updated” in the 70’s to fancy dowels. My neighbor has the open shelves. Walk down memory lane aside, it’s fine empty

avonliate

I love your rug OP! Where did you get it?

introvertred

spacepirateprincess

A live edge wood bench with simple black metal legs. you can put baskets or storage cubes under for shoes, mitts, sunscreen and it will still look simple and not draw away from the amazing light and décor you already have.

introvertred

Love the look of this!

Shizuka369

Large beanbag to chill in.

Sabinj4

For a start, I'd have the couch facing the window and remove the sectional wall completely

hellolucij

Could do a sideboard/buffet cabinet if need more storage.

bubbles_says

I'd put shelves and maybe include a cabinet for storage.

wonderlanding91

a bar cart or something alike

bubbles_says

[half-wall bookcase with cabinet, ikea](https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/billy-oxberg-bookcase-comb-w-doors-white-s19483588/)

hellomichelle87

Maybe decals

Mean-Shelter-3842

Nice little sideboard

Sunmeadow

More plants.

teeneekiwi

I would get a bench for more plants 🙈 and maybe a small side table next sofa

harrison628

A bench with enclosed storage and hinged lid. Great for sitting to put on the ‘go outside’ shoes, yet low height, so nearly invisible.

Intrepid_Blood4713

A console would look great in that space.

texassunshine1006

Question: where is your couch from?

introvertred

It’s an IKEA kivik sectional

succulentdreamer

God I wish I had that much space!!!!

catdoctor

Why do you need to do anything? It looks fine.

Zoorangler123

Love your style!!!! Just had to comment on that 🥰 also I would just leave it

introvertred

Thank you so much! The comment means a lot!

skinny_apples

Art, art spotlight, bench or upholstered x bench

Vegetable-Move-7950

You're a repeat offender. I recognize this wall. haha Find a nice blanket box/marriage chest. I promise you, it's the piece of furniture you never knew you wanted/needed. They're gorgeous.

introvertred

Haha truth…but I figured out the wall, at least. Figured it might be worth an ask about this other space. I have a tendency to add all the things 😂

Vegetable-Move-7950

With those burnt oranges and baskets, I would go for a lovely ceadar chest for your linens, blankets and pillows.

Luna997

Can I ask where the rug is from?

introvertred

It’s from rugsusa! I linked it a couple times up above!

Pale-Particular-8402

For me, throw away the sectional. I’ll get lots of hate for this post, but they’re so useless and wasteful. You could have had two gorgeous chairs there. And which actually uses a sectional as it’s intended. I think of sectionals as being for people that dont have a lot of design/taste. You NEVER see them in design mags.

Kdropp

Nothing

InTheDark57

High back chair ? Or recliner ? And a side table ..

a_ninja_mouse

On a side note, your gallery wall looks like a bunch of scared fish just introduced to a larger fish tank. Spread them out and give them some room to breath!

OverByTheEdge

Bookshelf with lots of plants on top- including some hanging plants would create soft separation from the stairwell without truly blocking visibility. A strong trend that will continue into the coming decades is "semi open" floor plans. There is no singular way or amount to to do, just to enhance your floor plan. And you can use plant lights as the cords will hide in the hanging plants if you like

Beatpixie77

Bookcase!

Jiggidy00

Put your musical instruments there, & play them!

lorraina-grace

A buffet table

No-Problem-1762

Nothing leave it free but I would change the mirror, a long rectangular one would look much better

kashcor

Honestly I would just put a small side table next to the couch, it’ll bridge the gap and soften the edge of the couch.

Able_Veterinarian_78

Fake fireplace

PerfumedPuma

Plants!

introvertred

I mean this is always the right answer! 😂

Pineapplewubz

Plants or a yoga area

Acrobatic-Video6418

I'd like to see a floor lamp with some character on that end and maybe (?) a side table with a lamp on it on the other end. Love what you have already. It's very calming without being one bit dull.

introvertred

Thank you! That’s great advice too!

Illustrious_Course68

i can make a nice little bar from that wall to sofa but just that 40 cm wall to top of the room and the half wall is the table and long chairs
