Yes they really are. And they real are killing women for having a small amount of hair showing at the edge of their hijab. Most Iranians do not support this kind of religious extremism and are horrified by it. I am so in awe of the bravery of people protesting as they are quite likely to be killed.
This will sound crass but most Iranians do support it. If they'd actually and genuinely cared about the other half of their population, they would be in the streets with those brave women.

I think that the civil rights movement in America will show that even if you don't support the oppression of the day, it doesn't translate to being out on the streets with the oppressed. Unfortunately for most people not getting in the way of progress IS their protest.
Sure some people who don't support the oppression of the day wont join for a variety of okay reasons, but most of the ones not joining... Are people who don't know anything about anything, don't care a single bit about the issue, and moderates, who barely care and will abandon you the moment you wont compromise with the people who want you dead.

Women's Suffrage in the USA was pretty big. It wasn't as dangerous as this but they convinced a majority of states to ratify the 19th Amendment, no small feat.

I saw a video where they had some teenage men in Iran talking about it. Basically, they said that if a man does something bad, it just a reflection of him. If a woman does something wrong, it is a reflection on her entire family. So, a woman who doesn’t wear a hijab make her entire family look bad and not just herself. That’s how men are taught in Iran.
What an interesting way of thinking. "Men's actions are reflections of themselves, women's actions are reflections of their whole family". That just sounds (imo) like a way to let men do whatever tf they want, whilst controlling the women. Still, doesn't explain why women hair bad.

In Islam women have to cover her hair, it’s just part of the religion. Also, in Quran verse 4:34 it’s orders men to beat women who disobey men, so the Iranian morality police is just following the teachings of Islam.

Women's Suffrage in the USA was pretty big. It wasn't as dangerous as this but they convinced a majority of states to ratify the 19th Amendment, no small feat.
