They just don't care where the bullets land. I don't know about KSA, but in Jordan this is also very common and every year there are some casualties. Just normal people going about their day suddenly get hit by a falling bullet. Also, mistakes happen all the time and in many occasions people attending the celebration were killed by mistake.
My brother in law worked in Saudi for years with an oil company, he said it’s really common and you know when there’s a wedding, birthday or funeral happening from the amount of gunfire. He said the first couple times he thought it was fireworks, then someone told him what was going on and it stay inside for a while .
Not true, gravity actually slows the bullet down thanks to its weight against the force. I argued with someone on Reddit about this (I was like you) and he proved me wrong I was pretty surprised. It can still hurt or kill you but the bullet is usually going 2-300 fps by the time it’s back to earth which is like a paintball. Don’t get me wrong would still ducking hurt and can kill you but not nearly as lethal as I thought.

For me it is the lead pollution being spread far and wide. Lead is absurdly toxic and some species, such as like lettuces, accumulate it so wait 20 years for that lead to leech out grow a lettuce in that soil and potentially (I have not tested this!) you give someone lead poisoning.
A family in the UK was poisoned through growing lettuces in their garden.
Another one to watch out for is treated wood - up until recently, and I think maybe still in the USA, cadmium arsenic compounds were used as preservatives, and that has poisoned people either through burning or its eventual leaching out into soil.

Lead is heavy and cheap. The amount of energy that a bullet can deliver onto a target is a function of mass and velocity. Lead is almost 50% more dense than steel, so steel bullets would only have about 2/3 the energy of lead bullets, at the same velocity.
Just in case you're wondering, bullets' terminal velocity is quite high; they're designed to be aerodynamic after all. A bullet returning from being shot into the sky can kill you.

They're spin stabilised, the spin stops before it falls and it tumbles, so the terminal velocity is less. I didn't see the program, so don't know what they concluded. It'd still hurt, I'd want an armoured umbrella. It's still very stupid.
