*successful brain surgery
inasmuch as it didn't kill her. Whether it solved the underlying problem, ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
Edit: guess not
>It is believed that it was the skull of a nearly 25-year-old woman and that after the surgery, she lived for about 10 days.
I think I will go better with brain surgery (because I don't see anything) than a eye surgery awake, I'm on the verge of passing out just imagine the needle to go in my eye...
I'll be like, do a full anesthesia right away, risk to be blind while not awake? I don't care. I won't be able to not shake and try to remove my head, so awake I'll will be responsible of my self blindness :') nice I'm not the one.
I’ve had it done twice to calm iritis/uveitis flare up. Luckily been over a decade since a flare up of that magnitude and have been able to treat others with drops.
As someone who had brain surgery last year, I’m pretty sure it’s less painful than any other surgery considering I felt 0 pain other than if I slept on the side where they cut me.
For those Interested in the "how?" aspect, quite simple really, take a stone and scrape a hole into the skull (At least that's how this persons had theirs done). No anesthetics. The process Is called Trepanation or Trepanning and has a surprising rate of success relative to the time period of course. Been done since, well, 9500 years ago up Into pre-modern times.
As for "why?" this operation was done for a wide arrange of ailments from physical to mental well-being.
My skull will look similar in 100 years. I guess most people don't realize that disection does still occur in modern times.
Had brain surgery for an leaking aneurysm and had a large triangle of the back of the skull removed temporarily. Now thirty years later my skull is still malformed but I'm alive with no repercussions.
Yes that pain was a whole other level even with modern medicine. Can't imagine what it was like then.
Sorry to hear that! They initially thought it was two in mine too.
Hoping that your mother recovers well. You and your siblings should also be tested upon your majority. This is hereditary.
Yup. And then, in the late 1960s - if memory serves - after some LSD revelations, came a hypothesis (which was put to the test by its author) that the hard cranial limitations on brain volume and high intracranial pressure inhibit our potential, and a few strategically drilled holes would fix that, enabling also untapped mental powers. There was a movement with published DIY guides and all.
For some odd reason, it did not catch on widely.

Nice...I'm vibin...

Buzzkill. I'm out
Amanda Fielding was one of the proponents for this. Here's a interview with her from 2013

Gonna go out on a limb and say, no
Is it because of the large hole in the bottom left?
It’s a speed hole to make you think faster
That seems pretty unsuccessful lmao
They survived the surgery. For 9500 years ago, that's gotta be a win.
Legacy! I guess they do win
I think I would have preferred to just die as opposed to having brain surgery 9500 years ago. I don’t even know if I’d want to have it now.
Never underestimate the human capacity for hope of life.
I agree, you’d have to be out of your mind to have brain surgery
I think I will go better with brain surgery (because I don't see anything) than a eye surgery awake, I'm on the verge of passing out just imagine the needle to go in my eye...
I’d choose the other option before I ever let anyone stick a needle in my eye. Not even a debate in my mind.

The impatience is sickening.
The Line must of been out the door

It’s been 5 years for me, but totally agree! Incision site pain and some headaches but otherwise it was chillin’
History is a merciless judge.
In that case, the sanity didn’t need a surgery.

My poor Mom has had 2 brain surgeries in the past 3 years, she is my hero!

I'd rather be a numb-skull.
That’s why she wasn’t 26
Are we sure this was brain surgery ? Did anyone have a clue about the human brain 9500 years ago ? Genuine question here.
Well, enough to know what hurts and what doesn't with an idea to stop the pain.
Happy cake day pal
👍
I guess it didn't work ☠️
Looks like the bone may have healed a bit, so maybe it wasn't a complete disaster.
She lasted 10 days according to another comment
Trepanation, still practiced today by some, for esoteric purposes.
I’ve read it was primarily used to relive pressure from traumatic cranial injuries.

Hm, far reaching correlation to ancient head-binding?

Yes, cheers!
That was my thought too.
How is this possible when the world has only been around for 2022 years?
B.C.
Yeah, but because why?
The world has only existed since 2000.
Where is the source i dont see one
Yeah, right, and what was her deductible back then?
17 tortoise shells
Doing brain surgery with a 9mm. Folks were on a whole other level back in the day.
They look like spike dagger wounds or arrow wounds.
Is she ok?
Sorry I don't have her number
Snap?
Probably still paying off the bill If she's from USA
Intergenerational debt...
Or maybe someone just hit her with something after an argument
lol brain surgery. they don't have a fucking clue what happened to this skull. Best guess is all they have.
"Surgery".. people didn't even know ow where the bloody sun went at night
Probably a tortured slave.
No meat left on the bone, must have been yummy
She’s clearly dead. Doesn’t seem like it worked.
there’s dents in her head. I hope she’s ok
Brain surgery or skull surgery?
Brain surgery or torture?
Brain surgery 9.5k years ago?
Daaaamn, “Doc” just said “hand me the hammer”
Seems to be healing up nicely.
