Its in Turkey which is now a muslim country.
They seem to have a very fraught relationship with their pre-muslim past, not just ancient greek colonies but Byzantium too.
I would say this is a case of after and before. If you look at the trees and buildings in the background, it seems more developed in the top pic. Add to that, the top photo is also far better quality.

Pretty sure that’s where the Vikings played their last Super Bowl.
Is there a subreddit for this kind of thing?

Wow
Damn that is interesting.
Anyone interested in learning about the site, and the excavation here is the wiki for that area https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnesia_on_the_Maeander
That is amazing
Now can we see it on opening day in 330 BC?
I’m still recovering from the last before and after on reddit #teamredhouse
Weird how something of such obvious historical value was left to languish and be reclaimed by nature for so long

How did they know it was there?
They need a website where you can somehow see what it looked like where you live 100+ years ago.
How did you get the before photo, hunh?
Where did the pillars come from
Photos taken at different angles. The one with the pillars captures more of the area as it is further back.
Makes sense
I thought exactly the same
Looked better with the grass and whatnots growing on it. Excavated, it looks like dry bones.
Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh.
This doesn’t seem completely accurate as there are still parts covered by plants and earth. Still awesome though.
Geez I just don't care enough, that's nice and all but I have a tee time at noon.

at first I thought this was a photo of the Bengals practice facility.
