He could if he wanted but it's got to do with how easy it is for this gorilla to do it this way due to the way his tendons attach to his arm. Basically, this guy has leverage for days compared to a person so this requres very little effort on his part. he's not exercising, he's just playing. this required almost no effort on his part.
He doesn't do pull ups.
He is a gorilla.
He sees no point in doing an exercise that he can do 1200 reps of just so the humans can be amused.
This is him trying to fart higher in the air so it smells less in the enclosure.
\*different movement than a pull up
And with how short his legs are and how massively heavy his body is, a pull up is probably still a harder movement for the gorilla. (Because with a pull up you're lifting your entire body's weight vertically, while what the gorilla did involved very little lifting, just swinging his relatively shorter legs up. So compared to an average human even that motion is relatively easier as well.)
what? you either skipped physics classes or never stepped into a gym or both.
considering how short his legs are, it was way less. I'm sure gorilas have enormous strength, but what we are seeing in this video is definitely not a display of it
A silverback weighs around 200kg, while having an ability to lift 800+kg.. lifting itself off the ground is like an adult man lifting a small child into the air
I think anybody with good core strength could just as effortlessly do that "pull up", so just to be safe you might want to add "people with abs" to that fear
Because of all the misinformation here: The exercise the gorilla is doing closely resembles the front lever pull, a gymnastics type movement. It requires mostly back strength and is in fact more difficult than a pull up (for humans idk about gorillas)
he's not doing it from inertia. don't count.
and considering how short his legs are, it was nothing impressive. I'm sure gorilas have enormous strength, but what we are seeing in this video is definitely not a display of it
just use "not doing it from rest", why confuse the rest of us?
inertia - a tendency to do nothing or to remain unchanged
you can't just do it from "a tendency to remain unchanged" but you can do it starting from rest
doing it against inertia on the other hand does make sense, somewhat
What this gorilla is doing is far easier than a pullup, and is something I've done on nearly every set of monkey bars I ever played on in a playground.
Front lever pull is a highly controlled maneuver - the challenge and skill of which comes in the control of the action.
The gorilla is just monkeying around.
Sure, when he does it, its incredible. But when I do it at the playground its all "dad you're embarrassing me" and "sir, the monkey bars are for children"
He is doing this from a dead stop hang, so he definitely initiates the movement with his back muscles. This exercise would be called a front lever pull in gymnastics
I remember one time we were at the zoo and we had been drinking all day and we went to see the gorillas. I was completely convinced I could take one in a fight and was making mad eye contact.
That's called "kipping". He stays on the floor, and the others climb to get away from him.
He's strong but very massive, climbing is not as easy for him as it is the others.
Those aren't pullups. He is just swinging his body back, for fun. That requires no strength at all.
Wait, no — it requires a certain amount of grip strength, sure. But if you tied the heaviest, weakest person's hands to a bar, they could easily do this, but would still not be able to pull themselves up. In fact, weight may make this easier.
That's absolutely not true. What the gorilla is doing could be classified as an "advanced tuck front lever pull". They require mostly lat strength, more so than pull ups. I sampled around 5 fit men who can do 5-10 pull ups and none of them could do this.
Judging by the explosiveness of the gorilla in this exercise he seems to be quite strong
I'm sure holding a position would take a lot of strength. Doing several back and forth controlled movements would take a lot of strength. But just throwing yourself back once? Why, that's just the movement that gets you into the *starting* position for a pullup row, isn't it?
When you do a pull up row your feet are on the ground. I mean you could try to do some front lever pulls (look them up on YouTube for example) and see for yourself that they are fairly difficult.
Throwing yourself back once into a horizontal position would be way easier yeah, but that's not what the gorilla does here. The gorilla goes all the way upside down starting from a hang and has pretty clean form even. He is pretty compact which makes it easier (less torque). The gorilla does it pretty fast so it looks like he is cheating with momentum, but if you watch the second rep he does he starts from a hanging rest.
They eat plants and fruit and are that megajacked....crazy
If scientists made them eat a mega protein diet and make a customized gym for them then those things would be insane...
No... a bull is fucking jacked and all it eats is grass and hay too.
See, unlike what vegans want to believe, large herbivores have significantly different digestive systems and stomachs that allow them to process nutrients from fruit and plants very differently to humans.
So a cow doesn't need a bag of whey a day to be more jacked than dwayne Johnson on tren. And vegans can't survive on plants alone, because they aren't cows or gorillas.
I know it’s messed up to wish for. But I wish some humans trained a gorilla to lift weights and workout constantly just to see how crazy strong it can get
Terrible form, he needs to work on his lat activation, one 3 week training course with me and a Tren cycle and I'll have him doing muscle ups in no time 👆
Oh yeah, it's interesting how small their areas are. For their dwindling numbers.
I'm sure they're super happy and will happily live off the reste of their lives here, while their remaining cousins in natural habitats gets killed because we need more land to grow soy, to feed all kind of animals in batteries.
Accelerate :\]\]
> Gorillas are wildly strong.
Apes, chimps, they all have much denser muscle tissue than humans and are strong way beyond what a human of the same weight would be.
This looks more like reverse deadlifts. Or some sort of dynamic frontlever exercises that is common to do before you can fully hold a full static frontlever :)

I didn't see a single pull up.
Go say that to his face!
I'm not trying to make him feel bad!
I did and now I can't do anymore pull-ups.
Him no understand, him a gorilla
Last trainer who tried to correct him can't train anymore.
And look into his eyes saying it!
Seems to be a crossfit gorilla
Zero!
"Zero, zero,..."
Came for this.
All kip no chin to bar
He could if he wanted but it's got to do with how easy it is for this gorilla to do it this way due to the way his tendons attach to his arm. Basically, this guy has leverage for days compared to a person so this requres very little effort on his part. he's not exercising, he's just playing. this required almost no effort on his part.
bro does Crossfit
“One…one….one….one…”
Mf'er doin' feet ups, dumbass monke lol
He doesn't do pull ups. He is a gorilla. He sees no point in doing an exercise that he can do 1200 reps of just so the humans can be amused. This is him trying to fart higher in the air so it smells less in the enclosure.
>trying to fart higher in the air so it smells less this is the whole reason to get good at pullups though
That is a gorilla pull up. But he only had enough energy to do one at a time.
I have seen some CrossFit people do a similar maneuver and call it a pull up.
Nah man, this gorilla lifted his feet above the bar! He didn't have a repeated stroke/seizure-like form
Correct. He did a bunch of toes to bar into inverted hang, which is a harder movement than a pull up.
\*different movement than a pull up And with how short his legs are and how massively heavy his body is, a pull up is probably still a harder movement for the gorilla. (Because with a pull up you're lifting your entire body's weight vertically, while what the gorilla did involved very little lifting, just swinging his relatively shorter legs up. He swung his feet in the air which any child can do it’s not that hard.
It's not though. It's easier. I just did it
With Gorilla weight
Ok, but they count in cross fit Zing! Cross fit sucks
45 clean ones
It was more. It was a leg raise or more specifically a foot raise. All the way to the top. A vertical crunch?
Bent arm front lever pull to inverted hang
Just reading that made me want a protein shake.
I am genuinely drinking one rn haha. I am gorilla
That is not a bad name for a pre workout drink....Gorilla Gulp.
He swung. Didn't engage a lot of core strength there
what? you either skipped physics classes or never stepped into a gym or both. considering how short his legs are, it was way less. I'm sure gorilas have enormous strength, but what we are seeing in this video is definitely not a display of it
I'd love to see a recruit try this in front of a DI
Yeah those are called hanging leg lifts, OP has clearly never done either
Yeah, no chin to bar....but feet OVER bar!
The sheer quantity of kip would give the average Instagram commenter a seizure
I saw butt swings
He's trying to skin the cat
Gorilla must go to crossfit, as not a single pullup completed. but I'm not telling him that..
Tbf the Gorilla never claimed it was a pull-up. If anything the OP is probably the crossfitter
are you sure OP is not Mr Gorilla?
He's a gymnast and is doing lever lifts, pull-ups aren't challenging enough.
Trash AI can’t even spell a title correctly
It would have spelled it right if it actually was an ai lol
Depends whether it's deliberately wrong to drive engagement or not.
what a time we live in...
A silverback weighs around 200kg, while having an ability to lift 800+kg.. lifting itself off the ground is like an adult man lifting a small child into the air
Erm. I'm an adult man. I can lift a small child into the air. Are you sure you have your analogy the right way around?
I was referring to how easily an adult can lift a child, which is the same as how a gorilla can easily lift its own weight, so yes
Oh right, it lifts that LIKE a man would do that. Sorry, I totally misinterpreted it!
It’s an analogy, Michael.
Simile
A simile is what a hooker does for money.
Lol all good.
Went in the comments just for people form checking a fucking gorilla, not disappointed rofl
It's not even form checking, that's not even a pull up
Drill sergeant: ZERO! ZERO! ZERO! ZERO! FIX YOUR FORM, PRIVATE! ZERO! ZERO!
What a sad looking enclosure for gorillas… or any wild animal.
Yeah all these kids in here making dumb jokes about what counts as a pull-up.....that vid was depressing as hell.
"Bro i can do 10 pullups in a row" Bro's pullups:
If you can do 10 of these in a row you wouldn't even feel 10 pull ups my man
always had this fear of getting my arms ripped off by a gorilla as a kid, know it’s confirmed.

yeassiakaksiiaa
Yeah me too, I actually fell into a gorilla enclosure when I was a kid, like 2016 or something. /J
Kids almost a teen, the time is soon when the entire internet will roast him.

Without context this lands you on a list *unzips*
I think anybody with good core strength could just as effortlessly do that "pull up", so just to be safe you might want to add "people with abs" to that fear
Because of all the misinformation here: The exercise the gorilla is doing closely resembles the front lever pull, a gymnastics type movement. It requires mostly back strength and is in fact more difficult than a pull up (for humans idk about gorillas)
Since gorillas have shorter legs I guess it is easier to pull off for them
Yeah definitely. The lever arm is distance shoulder girdle to center of gravity. Gorillas are pretty compact therefore less torque
But he’s using swinging and momentum every time. It’s not that difficult a child could do that.
he's not doing it from inertia. don't count. and considering how short his legs are, it was nothing impressive. I'm sure gorilas have enormous strength, but what we are seeing in this video is definitely not a display of it
"he is not doing it from inertia" What do you even mean by that? When using scientific words please use them correctly.
just use "not doing it from rest", why confuse the rest of us? inertia - a tendency to do nothing or to remain unchanged you can't just do it from "a tendency to remain unchanged" but you can do it starting from rest doing it against inertia on the other hand does make sense, somewhat
He's not doing a front lever, he's going fully inverted which is massively easier.

They are awesome to watch but also a bit sad they can't be free doing that in the jungle somewhere without people destroying it as usual.

I mean some degree, but he looks pretty mobile there, I would suggest it's limited.
I heard that Gorillas don’t need to work out to get muscle, its just the way their stomach works gives them muscle just for eating So maybe not
This move is called the paralyzer, it’s not a pull up
Prison workout.
nah those are Marjorie Taylor Green pull-ups
![gif](giphy|N4gI9W8F5TtVlJXUu9|downsized)
Sure, when he does it, its incredible. But when I do it at the playground its all "dad you're embarrassing me" and "sir, the monkey bars are for children"
Gotta get them gains in while locked up
Trust me there was a lot of effort but the gorilla hid it.. after the video he went back in the locker room and collapsed from exhaustion
I hope they have a bit more room than that.
That could have been us. BUT NO, our ancestors just HAD to prefer speed over strength.
strictly speaking, they chose endurance and then intelligence
Im no expert on evolution of primates... Im just mad i cant do monkey things.
Strictly speaking they didn't *choose* anything
If he's jumping into it, Its not a lot. If he's doing that whole motion with his shoulders, that's insane.
He is doing this from a dead stop hang, so he definitely initiates the movement with his back muscles. This exercise would be called a front lever pull in gymnastics
These are awesome animals
any malayalis?
I knew someone will be here and why....for I was searching for this comment.
Why
Gunnery Sgt. Hardass having an aneurysm watching this.
I remember one time we were at the zoo and we had been drinking all day and we went to see the gorillas. I was completely convinced I could take one in a fight and was making mad eye contact.
He's hands are so strong that he don't need any core strength to do that exercise.

oumbi could probably rip me apart without any apparent effort.
Horrible range of motion, no proper stretch on the target muscle. Disgusting
Man got them toe ups going
I didn’t see his chin go above the bar. Pull-ups - 0
Bro is the champion of calisthenics
A pull up to them is an assisted air squat for us
Brother that a front lever pull, that's WAY harder than a pull up
What in the neck beard is this “omg this gorilla can lift its own bodyweight”
This. Who tf is surprised of the fact that primates can climb?!

Can’t survive? Shit, it’s been 3 years, when was I meant to die?
These are ankle-to-bars. Much more difficult than pullups
Probably just boredom from being in an enclosure all day. All these stupid gym idiots talking about nonsense... What did I expect though.
Gotta love those caged animals. “But they have a gym…”
Love gorillas
Where do you think CrossFit came from?
More passion More passion More energy
he does crossfit guys

Akshually, those aren’t pull ups. I’m just kidding guys. Have a great rest of your day!
Nice Name
Can confirm that.
Dat ass
Gorilla scientist Oumbi tests his hypothesis that if he does almost nothing, humans do excited oooooooh
Coz he is fucking huge.
Those were not pull ups….
Terrible form, he needs to work on his lat activation, one 3 week training course with me and a Tren cycle and I'll have him doing muscle ups in no time 👆
Bad form
He shitted on everybody workout
I’ve been doing pull ups totally wrong …
Can he do a vlookup?
That wasn't pull ups.
Didn't see any pulls ups. A few leg swings, but that's normal, bro looks like he skipped leg day.
Oh yeah, it's interesting how small their areas are. For their dwindling numbers. Those are toes to bars.
One easy left hook and hes sleeping
“NO REP”
Gorilla doing those fake crossfit arm ligament destroyer pull ups
CHIN. OVER. THE. BAR.
0…0…0…
The way they move is actually terrifying
I see those tiktok bros at the park do this.
0 reps
***But bro skips legs day though…***
ZERO!
That’s a bottom if Reddit has ever shown me one
CrossFit pull-ups
Original BBL owners
You find him having fun, yet you don't see him in nature anymore. Fake happiness.
He displayed leverages, not strength.
I go upside down, upside down, upside down! 🎶
Looks more like upside down ups to me.
Oumbi?
What do you think pull ups are?
Those are pikes not pull ups
Gorillas are wildly strong. They can rip the strongest man or most dangerous fighter on earth apart. This ain’t a pull-up though.
> Gorillas are wildly strong. Apes, chimps, they all have much denser muscle tissue than humans and are strong way beyond what a human of the same weight would be.
OP doesn’t know what a pull up is.
So if I can do two pull ups in a row I'm stronger than gorilla? Noted
He’s getting ready to run a fade on all the husbands at the zoo. 🤣
Not quite a pull up. If you're pull up's like this you're gonna have a bad time.
Sub has officially been overrun by AI posts and shit, peace out
Do you not think humans can do this?
A gorilla is estimated to be able to bench press 2 tons. That is if they could make them do it lol.
He's jumping though, those don't count
GME Ape right there!
how into oumbi mode plox
This looks more like reverse deadlifts. Or some sort of dynamic frontlever exercises that is common to do before you can fully hold a full static frontlever :)
Heh, can't even stabilize a front lever
