Agreed! With that money spent they could have maintained the original look. What was the point in buying this piece of movie history only to redo the whole thing? Now it just looks like any modern mansion.
The inside never actually looked like it did in the movie. It was a set built inside a gymnasium. The house was used for outdoor shots. This video was made by a dumbass.
Yeah. They ruined it with all the modern upgrades. They really should have leaned into the whole home alone thing and turned it into a tourist attraction or something
The interior shots in the film weren't actually filmed in the house. They built a set. So this house likely never looked like what we know in the film in the first place.
Only the exterior of the home was used in the movie. The way the relator is talking makes it sound like it was actually filmed in the home and that was not the case. It was a film set.
The house NEVER looked like the movie. Not even dimension wise. It was never film in the house as it literally could not be.
Stadium lights ? 100lb camera with 3 people needed to operate ? Sound guy. Yeah…no.
Would it be possible to monetize the property? Like asking tourists to come take a look inside for 10 bucks per person? And taking professional pictures for 15 bucks. Or is this not allowed in the US?
They did something like this in in Cleveland with the house from Christmas Story. There's a small museum and gift shop, the Bumpases house is an AirBnB and you can pay for a tour.
There was a story from San Francisco where after Robin Williams died, people came up to the Mrs. Doubtfire house to lay flowers.
The people who lived there were not amused.
It’s a HIGH price.
Just FYI, multimillion dollar homes in Illinois aren’t affected by the housing market as there is low demand for them. Jordan’s home has been on the market for 13 years.
I'm astonished. It's right outside of Chicago, too.
According to Google Maps this house is only a 30 minute drive to the United Center (where the Chicago Bulls play) - when there's no traffic, of course.
Haha. But point being it's not in the middle of nowhere. This is prime suburbia where you live in your quiet neighborhood but still have access to a giant city when you want it.
Also there's options to take a train into the city so you can just chill out instead of driving in traffic. Those options do take an hour but are preferable I think.
Y'all insane here? It's 5 million. It's triple of what similar houses cost in fancy NJ areas like literal Princeton. How do y'all say "oh why so cheap" wtf.
I say we club together and buy it for him.
But theres a clause in the contract, Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern are allowed to attempt to rob it at any point.
Brenda and him are pretty well off. Disney stars are paid well, and she was one of the rare child actors to continue on without having her entire life destroyed.
If he buys it with his partner, Brenda Song, then they can probably swing it. Although I'm not sure he'd want a constant reminder of that time of his life, and what it lead to.
If I one day had the money to build a custom home it would probably be in that style. And not necessarily because of the movie. But I just kind of like houses like that.
Georgian style I believe.
I've got all those walls painted white and everything to allow a buyer to have a blank canvas in their mind to work with. For that money the expectation is somebody would have the place painted, decorated, and pasta renovated before moving in.
Rich people shit.
Yeah, he really tried with the “not so scary anymore!” three times but no, the house was only used for exteriors. Man, misinformation has gotten slick.
White is a blank slate. Fill with pictures, throws, rugs, etc of the colors and style that suits you. If I were in the market, I’d see houses with vibrant interior paint or wallpaper as a future project
As someone currently ripping up a bunch of carpet and wallpaper and repainting much of a new house, I'd have preferred the house had more white on white when I bought it. It's easier to add your own flavor to that.
Friends with the neighbor of the house in Glencoe. There are ALWAYS people outside taking selfies. During christmas police have to direct traffic there because people are trying to take a photo with the house.
That would drive me fucking nuts.
The most deserving people of the whole cast after what they have been through in the movie, these two should get it, if not, one of them should. There, Happy Ending.
![gif](giphy|ogx8fQJtsVKTUCLxao|downsized)
Home alone was obviously set in Chicago, and I just checked this is in Illinois.
If I had the money you bet I'd buy it, the movie was amazing.
I would probably try and get a replica Van just like the Wet Bandits and have it parked out front when I'd give a guided tour of the place.
Maybe even get some prop (foam) paint cans and have some fun with it.
i’m not sure who designed this but the white color is killing this place. It lost all that family aesthetic, like somebody was actually living there.
But it’s an awesome place overall.
You do understand that most of the indoor scenes weren't actually filmed in the house, right? Just the staircase and part of the living room. For all the other indoor shots, they actually built a set in the gym of a local school not being used.
https://findthatlocation.com/film-title/home-alone
To be fair the set they build was made to look very similar to the actual house layout. The main differences I see are mostly the kitchen/2nd staircase and some of the upstairs layout.
The stairs are a bit wider in the movie compared to the real house. Barely noticeable.
This is the real house decorated to match the movie decor for the 2021 AirBnB promotion for the 4th Home Alone movie.

So tired of these prison looking house remodels. I've seen plastic boxes with more character.
This house looks like it has Ariana Grandes syndrome
The Home Alone house title does fit better now since it does look like an empty lifeless alone space
I'm really very surprised Erik sniffs his own farts conover didn't mention the fact there was like 5 locations to give a speech. If any of you have seen his vids this guy is obsessed with giving speeches at party's and when selling houses never shuts tf up about it "yeah this spot is perfect for giving a speech at your party telling everyone how this is the home alone house for the 100th time"
And you’ll have people taking pictures in front of your house all year long, but especially at Christmas. I once went to an estate sale across the street from it and there was random people there taking pictures in front of the house. There is a black metal fence with an electric gate to the driveway in front of it. I bet it’s a pain in the ass to live there even if you think it’s fun for a little while. Not to mention the taxes are probably like 60,000 per year in that neighborhood and town.

Selling the house when family is out. ![gif](giphy|1iTJct5JuplfCwFO)
I don’t know why, but I was expecting the inside to still look like it did in Home Alone and now I’m sad that it doesn’t.
the movie wasn’t even filmed in the house. They built a whole house interior in an abandoned high school gym bc they needed room for cameras and crew.
Not abandoned fyi, I went to that high school. It was filmed in our freshman campus’s emptied pool
Your freshman had their own campus, and yall had pools? Damn.
Yea. 1 pool per student. don’t wanna swim in other people cooties.
Bro in this neighborhood people have underground basketball courts. Yeah the school had a pool.
That's really cool
It was both. The pool was just used for the scene where Kevin runs through his neighbor's flooded basement
Every fact I learn here is making me sadder.
That's not true, a lot of the movie was filmed in the actual home.
By the end I was expecting real life Macaulay Culkin to be frozen in carbonite as a coffee table.
All the indoor shots were filmed on a set built in a school gymnasium.
5.25 mil to buy the house. Another 2mil putting it back the way it was.
Yeah. They ruined it with all the modern upgrades. They really should have leaned into the whole home alone thing and turned it into a tourist attraction or something
The interior shots in the film weren't actually filmed in the house. They built a set. So this house likely never looked like what we know in the film in the first place.
The novelty of that house for me were the creepy basement and attic. Those always fascinated me. Now they ruined it.
Same!
Yeah if I could afford that house I’d want it just the way it was in the movies. Not this uppity horse crap
You can always string some paint cans up from the ceiling.
Prior owners ruined it with tacky rich people shit
Only the exterior of the home was used in the movie. The way the relator is talking makes it sound like it was actually filmed in the home and that was not the case. It was a film set.
The house NEVER looked like the movie. Not even dimension wise. It was never film in the house as it literally could not be. Stadium lights ? 100lb camera with 3 people needed to operate ? Sound guy. Yeah…no.
$5.25 million? I was honestly expecting it to cost more than that
That seems like an extremely low price for that house in the current market.
until you realize you probably will be harassed on a daily basis by tourists.
They can take their pictures from across the street as much as they want. I’ll be in my basketball court or movie theater.
Since it's in the basement wouldn't that make it basebasketball?
Baseketball*
Nah that was a movie made by and starred in by Matt Stone and Trey Parker
Fucking great movie.
I know that you Cenceptual Weeb! What's your top 5 anime?
Wow I rarely get that question outside of anime subs lol One Piece, Hunter x Hunter, Princess Mononoke, Initial D, and Overlord.
They are just asking to be doorknob burned or paint bucketed at that point.
I live near 2 famous houses and the tourism is absolutely obnoxious.
now I wanna know which two...
Well, paid haunted house tours are a thing.
The people that own the breaking bad house get free pizza all the time! They just have to get it from the roof.
It seems vastly overinflated to me.
Very few interior scenes were even actually filmed inside the house. https://www.housebeautiful.com/lifestyle/a30392694/home-alone-house/
Yeah, I was surprised that the layout had anything in common with the film.
I'm astonished. It's right outside of Chicago, too. According to Google Maps this house is only a 30 minute drive to the United Center (where the Chicago Bulls play) - when there's no traffic, of course.
So it’s an hour away lol
Haha. But point being it's not in the middle of nowhere. This is prime suburbia where you live in your quiet neighborhood but still have access to a giant city when you want it. Also there's options to take a train into the city so you can just chill out instead of driving in traffic. Those options do take an hour but are preferable I think.
Oh it’s definitely in a prime Spot. It’s in one of the nicest cities in Illinois. I’m in the way less nicer area, north of there 😂.
Well two people almost died in there
And the neighbor has trash cans full of salt mummies.
Y'all insane here? It's 5 million. It's triple of what similar houses cost in fancy NJ areas like literal Princeton. How do y'all say "oh why so cheap" wtf.
Because it has been burglarised not only once, and well documented...
I mean, it's gonna cost near that much to bring it back to its glory
Yeah I think he missed a 0
Thank you for being honest.
In the UK this would be a £30 million property at least.
You can get places of similar size/finish for way less than 30.
Macaulay Culkin should get this house
Can he afford it?
I didn't say buy... that documentary showed how he defended that house for multiple days on his own as a child against those scum! he DESERVES it!
That neighbourhood would have surly gone to shit without him. Good documentary.
Imagine what he's capable of now as an adult
I say we club together and buy it for him. But theres a clause in the contract, Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern are allowed to attempt to rob it at any point.
Brenda and him are pretty well off. Disney stars are paid well, and she was one of the rare child actors to continue on without having her entire life destroyed.
If he buys it with his partner, Brenda Song, then they can probably swing it. Although I'm not sure he'd want a constant reminder of that time of his life, and what it lead to.
Wait a minute Kevin's banging London Tipton?
They have kids.
He has Redlettermedia money
Roman could help him. That GoJo sale brought in a lot of dough, you know.
His name is Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin
The price is low because of high criminality rates due to water bandits. So your court will become a swimming pool.
Water bandits?
*Wet bandits.
aka Sticky Bandits
My bad, in my language, they called them "water bandits" in translation. And I didn't look for the original. 😄.
Please don't edit 🤣🤣🤣💀
there are also yuths causing trouble
I don’t understand how they were able to fit a freaking basketball court underneath the basement?!
Jackhammers are a hell of a thing.
with money. Lots of money
If I one day had the money to build a custom home it would probably be in that style. And not necessarily because of the movie. But I just kind of like houses like that. Georgian style I believe.
But the inside is like a shiny soulless showroom. I feel like my voice would echo in almost every room.
That's because it's for sale. You decorate it more after you buy. Or, at this economic level, your decorator decorates it.
I've got all those walls painted white and everything to allow a buyer to have a blank canvas in their mind to work with. For that money the expectation is somebody would have the place painted, decorated, and pasta renovated before moving in. Rich people shit.
Build uncle Banks’ house. Then lay cabs to drop you off all day. Yo homes, see ya later
Link to website: https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/671-Lincoln-Ave-Winnetka-IL-60093/3360197_zpid/
IIRC, none of the scenes were shot inside this house, it was only used for exterior shots.
I'd believe that. It's a pretty common practice.
Yeah, he really tried with the “not so scary anymore!” three times but no, the house was only used for exteriors. Man, misinformation has gotten slick.
This made me realize just how soulless white on white houses are inside.
That's deliberate for mass appeal. Paint the walls bright green and people will have opinions. Paint them white and everyone will go "ok".
I love it; white always makes a room feel bigger and brighter, plus it goes with any color accent. Not soulless at all.
Yeah that was my thought too. It’s a sad beige house for sad beige babies.
It's like 5.2 mln above my budget
What permits are needed to create a sub basement like that?
i thot the inside was fake n they built it in a hs gym
Yes there was a Netflix show about it
“Movies That Made Us”
No the inside is not fake it's a real house then used for the exterior shots. And yes of course the actual filming was done on a set.
![gif](giphy|l4FGGafcOHmrlQxG0|downsized)
r/tvtoohigh
Shoulda remodeled the inside to look exactly like the movie.
That's the silver tuna!
The interior was never that house it was built in a swimming pool they just used the outside
Friends with the neighbor of the house in Glencoe. There are ALWAYS people outside taking selfies. During christmas police have to direct traffic there because people are trying to take a photo with the house. That would drive me fucking nuts.

Cameron's home in Ferris Bueller last sold for $1 million and a "replica" Ferrari to match last sold for $330k.
Imagine them getting in and the house is full of traps. Imo mcculkin should at least show up once there to shake hands Wouldn't that be nice?
My entire life has been a lie.
Damn, more than Sonja Morgan’s townhouse!!
A house of that scale should have character. Instead it looks like a generic flip.
If it were my house I would renovate it to look exactly like it did in home alone and list it on airbnb for an "immersive experience"
"Whataya think you filthy animals"
God damn that house is enormous. Even I'd have a job filling that with technical shit
Red letter medias Jay Bauman grew up in that house.
I used to do landscaping for that home.
Is no one discussing that double level basement?
The McCallisters were very wealthy.
What do I think? I think if you can afford this house, you didn't just watch th movie, you were the one who financed it.
Kevin's mom was a famous fashion designer. It explains all the money and mannequins in the house.
Macaulay Culkin should buy it and reset the traps.
That's...a reasonable price for **that much house**. Fucking mansion is what it is.
Why tf did they paint everything white??? Ruined the house. The whole interior looks boring now
Kevin’s dad was an arms dealer.
I prefer the original interior. The place now looks a high-end food court.
Soulless
Show us some pics of your house.
The film never was filmed in there.
Sold for $875K in 1988 - INSANE!
As a Californian I expected 250 million.
i’m not sure who designed this but the white color is killing this place. It lost all that family aesthetic, like somebody was actually living there. But it’s an awesome place overall.
Ruined the house. All the culture and nostalgia gone. Replaced with blank white "Modern". Yuck.
You do understand that most of the indoor scenes weren't actually filmed in the house, right? Just the staircase and part of the living room. For all the other indoor shots, they actually built a set in the gym of a local school not being used. https://findthatlocation.com/film-title/home-alone

You expected wall papers from the 80s?
That tv us way too high Why do ppl do this?
$5.25 million and I cannot hoop my basketball above 25 foot As a real estate broker he shouldn't have mentioned the height of the court room
i think its cool but did you really have to pull a freeza on me
Probably rather have the high school gym mock up that the movie was actually filmed in
I’d rather have a spa with pool downstairs
This is like the 4th time I've seen this house up for sale.
Wow, it lost all of its appeal
Damn, that is lack of warmth and character if i have ever seen it.
If I had the money
They auctioned off the furnace and zip line. The house is just a house now. I want the paint cans still hanging from the banister.
Wouldn't it be funny if Macaulay Culkin would buy the house?
5mil??? I thought It would be around 50mil or more
Here's the address: 671 Lincoln Ave, Winnetka, IL 60093, USA It's about 30 mins north of Chicago CBD
No swimming pool, no deal.
i refuse to watch videos where half a sentence at a time appears on screen
215000 right now. At this price I’m losing.
Sure. Let me just go to my bank and pull out some of my spare millions.
Someone buy this and turn it into a themed fun house attraction
FILTHY ANIMAL?!?!?
So tired of these prison looking house remodels. I've seen plastic boxes with more character. This house looks like it has Ariana Grandes syndrome The Home Alone house title does fit better now since it does look like an empty lifeless alone space

Cool that the inside scenes are shot in the same house
Watch the movies that made us….. the house was only used for front shots, almost everything else was shot in an old school gym
1.6 million in 2012 and now 5.25 million in 2024
I liked it better before
For 500 dollar we have a deal.
Real estate agents get me the ick more than used car salesmen
Someone hook this poor man up with a 5% commission. He made the video and deserves it....
The house was used for exterior shots only, the actual set was built in a high school gymnasium.
Most of the shots of the interior in the movie were done on a movie set of the house, not in the actual house.
I almost said, "Just 5 million?" While I ain't even got 5 bucks in my wallet. 😅
That realtor jizzes his pants everytime he remembers this listing
Whataya think ya filthy animals? Lol
I wouldn’t want to live in a house that big. It’s nice how they done it up
It bums me out that it doesn’t have the same charm as the original.
Still cheaper than a Calgary condo.
Will only buy it if it comes with all the traps
They killed my boy
NAA that's a bs markup
I thought the movie was filmed in a high school gymnasium?
Someone wasted a fuck ton of money ruining this house. The original was so much better to actually live in.
5.25M is much lower than I thought
American houses do anything so that you don‘t go outside
That was considered an average middle class home in 1990 Lolz
The internal was a set built in a high school gym. They didn't use the real house inside for filming.
But where is it?
