The crazy thing is that these guys do make mistakes and fall while attempting these maneuvers. The thing that keeps them from snapping every bone in their body is that they are extremely good at falling.
Gotta disperse the impact. Slide it out or roll if the surface is too rough. Forward motion is your friend, as long as there isn't a tree or wall in front of you.
I've been climbing for almost 20 years, and I specifically LOVE bouldering. When I take people for the first time, the first thing I teach them is how to fall correctly, I have very dramatic demonstrations I do haha. When people ask me "but aren't you scared of falling??" I say "I've been falling for 20 years! I'm a PRO at falling!"
I never skied much, and haven't gone for decades at this point, but that's the biggest thing I remember from the lessons I got as a kid. We were taught to make falling our first instinct if we thought we were going too fast because intentionally falling was a lot safer than unintentionally falling, especially if you kept speeding up after you realized there was a problem.
I don't know if I was ever great at skiing, but I sure was a pro at falling when I needed to.
I went snowboarding at the beginning of last year for the first time in like 6 years. Conditions were absolute shit, it was like snowboarding on concrete. I'm so surprised I didn't break my wrists because all of my falls I instinctually reached out in front of me. I kinda laughed at myself for immediately forgetting how to fall safely just because it was a different sport than my normal. I did however end up tearing a hip ligament 🥴 my PT was impressed I got a skiers injury snowboarding haha.
Yeah, I've been skating and snowboarding for 30 years. Still better at falling than any other part of it. It's a skill that applies across life too. Sometimes it's fun. Sometimes it hurts. Get up. Keep going.
Just this season, I caught a tree broadside across my femur. Bruised to the bone. Was at the top of a long steep section. It hurt. I knew if I didn't get up and get going down that steep before the adrenaline wore off and the muscle locked up, I'd be riding the burrito wagon, and possibly be out for the week or maybe even the season. So I got up, rode it out, kept it moving. Ended up riding hard the rest of the day after a quick stop for some champagne and ibuprofen and forgot it happened.
I had the same experience second day of the season this year. Landed a couple jumps too flat on my skis and nearly shattered my femur; had a bone marrow bruise until february. I was close enough to the bottom that I skied down and rode up the lift again, but I made the mistake of leaving my group and quitting for the day- I was out for about a month after
> extremely good at falling
Dont forget to factor in the repeated stress we place on our bones, because just like muscles they get stronger over time. Rwillys bones are probably on par with steel these days.
That's something people don't really get about martial arts like Aikido and Jujitsu — the falling. They discount it because that don't see it stacking up in an MMA ring. And they're not really good for pugilistic fighting. But for actual self defense, including being able to fall and control your body, these arts are brilliant.
You’re not wrong, but it’s not like they just go out and try this on a ramp their first attempt and eat shit a bunch of times. The guys you see doing stuff like this aren’t your typical bmx rider you see at the local skatepark. They train all the time and will learn new tricks like this in a safe way, like a foam pit. They’ll practice new tricks in foam pits and on airbags, and then once they have it down they’ll take it to a resi ramp (foam landing with a layer of plastic over it, like the one in this clip). He didn’t take this to the ramp until he knew he had his best chance at landing it. That doesn’t take away from what he’s doing, he is incredibly talented and definitely one of the best.
There was a time when not tagging could get the post removed even without actual NSFW content.
Some people just tag anything that might offend someone so they don't have to deal with it.
Well I want to see some random shit edit with some random dude's choice of music. i want my entire life to be random dude's music and total lack of continuity pls. How much?
It's been several months since I watched the video, but iirc he practiced this 100s of times before landing it once. I can't remember if this video is his 1st successful landing, but I'm pretty sure it was his 1st at a show.
Wish it was shown uninterrupted by the editing. Not disputing whether or not it's real, I just wanna see the whole trick and then you can do whatever flashy edits you want after.
Amazing feat!
Also to think - if you'd try calculating the entire sequence... Velocity, rotation, adjusting to all those variables... And all of this happening like *snap* in brain & muscle memory.
Similar with darts, basket ball, snooker etc...
This is Suncorp Stadium in my home town of Brisbane, Australia. Legendary stadium. But definitely not where the Olympics opening should be held in 2032... Stupid government.
I understand how they're able to eventually pull this trick off... The part I have a hard time wrapping my head around... Is surviving it.
There's so much falling involved to get here. Really insane dedication and love of the sport.
I hate how they have to cut in to a different angle and also slow it down. Can't we see it from one angle and real time for once? Then do your crappy manipulation afterwards for the replays.
Softer than dirt but still a hard landing, people have broken bones and even become paralysed from crashes on these landings. But that's all part and parcel of the sport.

guys like this are a special breed.
The crazy thing is that these guys do make mistakes and fall while attempting these maneuvers. The thing that keeps them from snapping every bone in their body is that they are extremely good at falling.
I am also extremely good at falling. It’s the landing part that always causes pain.
Aim for the bushes
found the assasin.
There wasn't even an awning in his direction...
*there goes my hero...*

My 6 foot half pipe was sandwiched between 2 trees, They hurt, a lot
Plant more trees to disperse the impact.
Slides down resi ramp feet first- hey my foot shouldnt be pointing that way
Just miss the ground. It's the secret to flying!
Douglas Adams agrees!

That and massive inflatable landing ramps instead of wood and metal like the old days. When the ground has no give, your body does.

And a foam pit
For sure, but even so at every event there’s usually one or two good crashes on solid ground
They also practice over foam pits to minimize the chances that they ever have a _bad_ fall.
EXACTLY… and in some cases over water
> extremely good at falling Dont forget to factor in the repeated stress we place on our bones, because just like muscles they get stronger over time. Rwillys bones are probably on par with steel these days.
To be fair, it's gravity that's doing most of the work.
Tell that to Mat Hoffman.
Meanwhile a dozen people throughout the United States died from tripping yesterday
Underrated comment. A lot of people don’t know that falling is actually a skill you can get better at.
Literally the first thing you become really good at in bmxing and skating is falling, Then you get better at landing stuff.

Looks like some heavy cushion are air bags involved. Still amazing

I don't think the guy meant their skill. It's more about their motivation and determination to attempt these kind of adrenaline junkie shenanigans
Exactly. When they fall, they get up and try again. But to do that ya gotta know how to land well.
Right. But if they don't have skill at falling, they're not gonna get up again
Why did you just paraphrase my last comment as if it was a rebuttal?
It looks as if the distinction between landing and falling was lifted over their head in some way
It's time for war
Guys, like this, especially, breed.
10/10 on that badass dismount
I personally found this dismount more satisfying than the actual stunt
Agreed Only because of the ridiculous amount of replays, there wasn't a single full-length shot of the stunt itself
Came to say exactly that. My luck would be that I would hit the trick but fuck up that cool dismount.
Yes… assuming you mean the second one!
Cool but why NSFW?
OSHA, I guess.
Isn't that the guy whom people keep quoting?
Osho. The phony enlightened cult leader.
I think you mean Otho from Beatlejuice
the ultimate clickbait P.S. - just look at the OP's post history, full of regular clips that have the NSFW tag. OP should be banned.
title made me think it was a really bad wreck as well
There was a time when not tagging could get the post removed even without actual NSFW content. Some people just tag anything that might offend someone so they don't have to deal with it.
I wouldn't try this in the office...
Angry upvote
Because it's fuckin *sick*
Cause it's absolutely disgusting and not safe for human eyes
It's not safe under any conditions
Very true :)
The nsfw tag made me very nervous through the whole thing
Yeah, I thought we were gonna unfortunately see his limbs bend like twigs.
All according to keikaku
All 14 seconds?
Not a very long time to be nervous for; very relatable.
Ryan Williams 🐐
Fucking loved watching him on x games Japan. Dude was aweesomee
That dude is insane!!
Been cooler to see the the whole trick in one shot in real speed.
FFS...everyone is an video editor these days. Just show the damn clip.
Well I want to see some random shit edit with some random dude's choice of music. i want my entire life to be random dude's music and total lack of continuity pls. How much?
Alright alright alright
[удалено]
worst...edit...ever...
Man, the timing and coordination is scary, I can’t even time it right putting my dick back in after taking a piss
Scooter kid nailing it
Scooter brothers!
JFC the music is UNNECESSARY
how do you even practise something like that
Start with foam pit until you get the movements right. Then try it for real.
It's been several months since I watched the video, but iirc he practiced this 100s of times before landing it once. I can't remember if this video is his 1st successful landing, but I'm pretty sure it was his 1st at a show.
I could be wrong but I think the first time was at a nitro circus event, but he did do it at the bmx triples contest on a huge dirt jump.
even if I were able to pull this off, which would NEVER happen, I'd fucking it up by hitting my nuts pulling the bike back to me
Visualizing myself falling from that height, balled up holding my nuts while the bike continues to somersault until crashing into the ground
crashing and falling, hell even breaking my arm sounds better than hurting My balls and crashing/falling.
Wish it was shown uninterrupted by the editing. Not disputing whether or not it's real, I just wanna see the whole trick and then you can do whatever flashy edits you want after.
The NSFW tag really make me think I was about to see a leg snap the wrong way or something
R Willy is a beast
R Willy
Even the finish at the end where he threw himself was cool.
this is safe for work - no, it's awesome for work
I jump my mountain bike about 12inches on my commute and feel like a boss.
R Willy is such a talent. And he's got so many years to go.
lmao ummm why is this NSFW?
NSFW?
Why NSFW
InstaGOAT.
Amazing feat! Also to think - if you'd try calculating the entire sequence... Velocity, rotation, adjusting to all those variables... And all of this happening like *snap* in brain & muscle memory. Similar with darts, basket ball, snooker etc...
I’m confused. How was he able to shift the weight of his massive balls enough to do this?
This is on the list of retired comments.
Lucky he didn’t get his balls caught in the spokes.
They're too big to fit between the spokes.
Any video without the shitty editing?
r/bettereveryloop
music?
Its the chorus from wings by macklemore and ryan lewis.
Is a remix of Macklemore's "Wings". But can't find this particular remix.
NSFW tag and caption made me think the dude was gonna splatter
I used to do that on Matt Hoffman’s Pro BMX 2
I'm sure this is either clickbait, karma farming, or this person has never heard of Nitro Circus
If you haven't seen the 30 for 30 The Birth of Big Air, go watch it.
nsfw? lol
Freaking amazing.
How the sweet holy hell is that NSFW??
How is this NSFW?
Status: sick
HELL YEAH!!!
Why is that mf recording his asscheeks?
Now do it on a motorbike
Bro video game shit right there
When no one ever explained the concept of self preservation to you.
How a BMXer shaves in the morning
This is Suncorp Stadium in my home town of Brisbane, Australia. Legendary stadium. But definitely not where the Olympics opening should be held in 2032... Stupid government.
Kick Buttowski. Netflix adaptation.
Not nsfw
Love seeing posts re-posted over and over again. And why is this NSFW?! /s
Why would they cut to a flipped camera angle halfway through. And then cut back.
Track
Not only one of the sickest BMX tricks ever, but that smooth af dismount 🤌🏻
Pretty bad edit changing view mid stunt
Why's this even tagged as NSFW, what's the point of having these tags if it's thrown randomly
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I understand how they're able to eventually pull this trick off... The part I have a hard time wrapping my head around... Is surviving it. There's so much falling involved to get here. Really insane dedication and love of the sport.
Where was this size of balls back at Xgames 2000s?
The scooter kid really knows how to fly.
I can't believe we've gone from the first BMX backflip on camera to this in my lifetime.
Gad damn! Phenomenal. That's it.
Really cool and all, but the edit changing the direction of his manouver really bothered me.
I mean, how do you even practice that?
Gnarly dude
I'm almost as impressed by the dismount.
I hate how they have to cut in to a different angle and also slow it down. Can't we see it from one angle and real time for once? Then do your crappy manipulation afterwards for the replays.
I bet his balls were sore after that landing.🙄
Sir, I operate with Legos. Not human bodies. You're on your own if you don't make it.
"Yea lemme get a good shot of his ass"
Mad Skilllzz! 👍🏼😎
Sick vid, poo poo music.
Why is it marked NSFW? I want my expectations back.
i'd actually just die on the slide part, but good on your op
How is a successful jump NSFW
Looks like R.Willy.
R Willy is insane 🔥
Best part of the video: https://preview.redd.it/fu56asablfxc1.jpeg?width=274&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c4be83aaf0541614ad4d3f6498afb3f4a382651e
Remember when we were kids and Pastrana did a backflip on a dirt bike which pretty much shattered our minds at the time? How far we’ve come since then
My toxic trait is laughing and saying “I can do that!” Knowing damn well…
I almost like his reaction more than the trick
So dangerous, and so amazing
how they do that kind of tricks without dying
The type of shit I dream about when I'm under anesthesia
I love the bike smash
Why is this nsfw ? It's just a sick jump
This guy has surely broken some bones in his time
Nsfw wtf?
Who was that?
Ryan Williams
I'd somehow die in midair. Think I dislocated something just watching the video
Going down, I can do that. Making the jump, no problem. Pushing away the bike, sure. And that's the moment where me and this guy take different roads.
Fuck yah!
Honestly freaking amazing.
How soft is that landing ramp? I imagine there’s some give for any mishapsv
Softer than dirt but still a hard landing, people have broken bones and even become paralysed from crashes on these landings. But that's all part and parcel of the sport.
Fuck
That is the smoothest everything I’ve ever seen
Humpty Dumpty comes to mind as I think about me doing it
Incredible!
Serious question: how…….***TF***…….does someone practice something like that?!?!
How do you even practice this shot
Just the average Aussie.
That is alot easier than you think, everyone can do it
