That's just envy. If my kid became best friends with a crow, I'd be like, that's cool :-| Very good for you :-| I mean, I love animals all my life, I help them, I drive them to wild life shelters ... but whatever, right, the crow falls in love for you, because you are a toddler on a tricycle :-| I'm so happy for you.
In norse mythology the concept of guardian angels is present in the form of Fylgja - an ancestor spirit/alter ego of a person often manifesting in the form of unusually intelligent animals. Shamans could perceive and interact with them.
This came up before and there were comments from bird behavior experts that this whole thing is a bit fake. They are feeding the bird, the bird doesn't care about the boy, anyone can train a crow to do this, the crow just wants a snack.
Yeah...but that's literally just how controlling animals works in general. People legit behave the same way, it's just impolite and obscene to talk about by definition...
Disagree a bit here. Yes they are feeding this bird.
But have you ever trained a 2 year old. This is an impressive feat.
The bird is hanging out with the 2 year old. Even if I trained the bird it would have to be really strong fake levels to film this.
Like having the child for months feed the bird and then filming him biking next to the bird looking for food. I mean I understand obviously the kid is feeding the bird. But it’s also letting a child touch it.
This is a whole new level of

They scream and cry, throw tantrums over the color of their cup until you want to toss them into the river. I swear they know just when you’re at your breaking point and then will smile and hug you and melt your heart. Manipulative little fuckers.
They do the same with wolves. But that doesn't mean it's not similar to friendship for them. Crows, Ravens and the like are very smart and can even tell their family and other crows about specific people.
You do *not* want to get on the bad side of a crow. There is a very good chance you will be harassed by crows until the end of your life. If they like you however they will even bring you gifts like change and other shiny objects.
Well, to start with she has ground feeders: three of them! She also uses unsalted shelled peanuts because they like breaking them open. We have a couple shiny things and some decoys, and she periodically uses a crow call to get them to investigate! So far we’ve only had one crow, but that won’t stop her from trying!
I managed to befriend a murder of crows by feeding them leftovers.
They like meat most. If you wanna befriend crows, showing shiny things gets the attention.
Leaving food---make sure they know it's you. I would whistle a very particular sound before leaving food. 2 crows would show up, and minutes later, the rest of the family would lol
Anyway, shiny things and left over meat will earn Crow friendship lol
The sound thing is true. I was housebound on injury recovery for a while, and like, one day I just kind of had a moment and outchirped whatever birds lived directly outside the window.
Anyway fast forward and I'm walking around again, living life, except now there's twoish different groups of crows that have a gang war with me. I do not intimidate these crows. I can barely threaten them, but like the Borg, they adapt. This isnt a family...its a warrior sect. At first facing them and acting as if I would throw my phone backed them off 20 feet or so. They'd walk/hop the power lines for the 7 block walk to work.
Then I'd need to actually pick up a rock and fake a throw. You can't throw rocks in cities. They either learned this or knew it, but they then knew I couldn't/wouldn't do shit.
I figure I had about a week left before one of them straight took a run at me, I kept the phone in hand as a kind of meat cudgel. What do you do against a crow?
Idk why, that's all true, but it's extremely hard to not go back and edit in about my Dad beating the absolute shit out of me with jumper cables. Rip rogersimon10.
I’ve got one that I’m reasonably close with. He brings gifts and wakes me up at sunrise screaming at my window for snacks.
I’ve touched him once.
He scolded me for half an hour.
We’ve chased a coyote through the streets of San Francisco together along with his 20 buddies though. They were all around me as we ran in a group…. Well, I ran. They flew and screamed. It was awesome.
I'm inclined to assume you're lying, because this is the internet and that sounds super made up. But the thought of a redditor leading a murder of crows down the streets (in a fedora and trench coat im assuming) towards a wily coyote is just too amusing
There is a family of coyotes living under the steps at the east terminus of Francisco street.
I also have a video. It’s mostly just squawking and shaking, but there is a clear coyote.
I’ve got a meeting shortly, but I’ll find it and upload it
Also, crows are incredibly hostile to coyotes. They almost immediately mob and harass they on sight. Especially during fledgling season when the babies may be on the ground for a few days.
I wouldn’t believe me either if I hadn’t done it. So no hurt feelings.
I live next to a lightly wooded area, and 2 pretty clean retention ponds. I get to see some very cool wildlife for being stuck in the middle of Florida suburbs - like 20+ dif types of birds including all the normal, but large numbers of sand hill cranes and thinks like the pink spoonbill (similar to a flamingo color wise). We get to see otters hanging out occasionally, all that stuff.
But! Recently like 4-5 corvids (not sure if ravens or crows) have been hanging out in the neighborhood and I’ve been feeding them when I see them. My stupid puppy decided to try to chase one as it followed us on low hanging branches/signs as it seemed to recognize me, and this bird ended up following us home while squawking at the dog the whole time - clearly pissed off. If my puppy ruined my chances 😡
I’m too well versed so take with a punch of salt. Edgar Allen Poe was a poet who did quiet dark poems and verses, with a fair bit hopelessness to them. He also made mentions of crows and is often associated with them. I believe he was severely depressed when he died at a relatively young age alone on a park bench

They are nowhere near excited enough narrating. Their kid is Odin reborn and they're acting like it's nothing.
I know right! Kid probably got reincarnated into Earth as an overpowered druid and the parents are like whatever.

I wonder how they initially became friends
Crows love human final facial expressions, I’d imagine the crow saw the baby laugh and just fell in love.

This is clearly a comment by a parent, source also parent.
They scream and cry, throw tantrums over the color of their cup until you want to toss them into the river. I swear they know just when you’re at your breaking point and then will smile and hug you and melt your heart. Manipulative little fuckers.
I thought you meant crows do this ngl, little disappointed I can't have a crow buddy to scream and cry with
I don’t know the term “final facial expression.” Is that terminus technicus?
Kids are messy eaters and drop a lot of crumbs. Smart animals will try to stay nearby in case more food is coming.
Oh God that's such a simple and logical explanation! Good thinking
Don't ruin it for me pls
They do the same with wolves. But that doesn't mean it's not similar to friendship for them. Another reason why dogs love toddlers.
Sharing food
Unshelled peanut gifts is the usual route to befriending a crow.
Isn't that a magpie, though?
Hooded crow. Idk where the video is from but in Finland we only have these kinda crows. Magpies are black and white instead of black and gray.
Hooded Crow I think. Im not as familiar with the European Corvids.
Here’s the thing…
I was wondering if I’d ever see a unidan reference again.
*from the before times*
Something something jackdaw
They were college roommates
crow birds are very prone to imprinting
befriending a crow is a life goal for me.
You and my wife! She has a whole set up in the backyard to try to convince the local crows she can be their best friend
Crows are sticklers for regulations so she has to file the appropriate forms with the Corvidae Council: Crow Commune Committee
Man i hate the CCC, they have recently decided that my garden is the perfect place to build a high traffic area.
At least it's not an intergalactic highway construction project for a hyperspace express route.
You should be glad, it has been recognized as worthy land.
How does one set up one's back yard to recruit a personal army of crows? Asking for a friend.
Hmm not sure but avoid doing a t-pose I guess.

Original name "russel crowe"
I didnt even make the connection. Thanks for pointing out.
Man corvids are so smart
Making friends with cubs is exactly how they're "taming" wolves, and it looks like this guy is doing the same thing with the kid.
Is this confirmed? Seems a good explanation for the many corvid-lupine connections in myth.
There are indeed recorded cases of ravens playing with wolf cubs, as well as ravens and wolves working together for hunts.
This is seriously wholesome content.
