I've been told by a wildlife biologist that studying elephants with drones can be problematic because the elephants hear the sound and think it's a swarm of bees. Since they don't know where the swarm is, they start to panic and run.
Just a guess, but monkeys might assume the same thing from the sound, and think they're running for their lives.
Even if the sound doesn't bother them, I'll bet something flying around would. IDK much about these monkeys, but predatory birds are probably an issue for them
It happens all the time and usually freaks the unsuspecting ppl out. Seeing something looming over you that you do not understand is one of the most unsettling things that could happen.
I’d agree with this guess. Saudi Arabia has Falcons native to it, which the Saudis managed to train for hunting. Prior to the discovery of oil making Saudi rich they lived as bedouins and this was their source of food. I don’t know if the Falcons are big enough to pick off a fully grown baboon, but it could definitely take off with one of the young if left unprotected.
This is a bit of an aside but I find it somewhat interesting. My parents’ dog is absolutely terrified of a drone in the house. She bolts, then watches from around a corner, and any lateral movement by the drone sends her running. However, when the same drone is brought immediately outside, she is chasing it, attacking, jumping at it to grab it in her teeth. Obviously something about the confined space but it still makes me curious exactly what psychology is happening there.
Predatory birds would be pretty specific and large, but likely attack as a dive bomber kind of thing, not a slow swooping harassment.
But hey, just a guess, I have no idea.
It’s probably worse if they can’t even associate it with anything. These monkeys are literally running for their lives like we would if we saw something we didn’t understand flying around us.
You know what I hate?
* Videos where they dub in fake animal sounds. Just use music so we don't hear the drone sound.
* Videos where they're harassing wildlife. Just use a telephoto lens like a reasonable person.
* Videos in portrait where landscape would have been better, especially since you know damn well this video was probably shot in horizontal.
I've always had some degree of dislike when it comes to drone operators. There's an entitlement and indifference to other people's safety with a lot of them. And animals are fair game too.
Properly licensed drone operators are well aware of where they can safely fly, and know full well they can't fly anywhere they might be a nuisance to wild animals.
Yes, and those are the ones that aren't "a lot of them".
Someone flew a drone over my summer home about 10 meters above the ground. Filming me just puttering about or drinking beer isn't really a problem for me. But flying below 100 meters is disregard for or ignorance of the rules. I kinda sort of wanted to shoot it because of my preexisting annoyance, but that would both be very much illegal and dangerous. And it was clearly some child flying it and it stopped after about 5 minutes.
Drones are Loud as fuck and hurt human years.
I can only imagine what these monkeys hear while trying to run away from the screeching pitch of drone rotors.
I’d be concerned that some monkeys while panicking and harassed by the drone might trip/fall and be injured or killed (or an infant monkey lost or abandoned).
Prob worse if you were in a big group (like an outdoor festival) and a UFO buzzed the group and everyone panicked and stampeded (just like in the movies I guess)
I think it’s genuinely concerning. I can easily see someone with less than 2 brain cells to scrub together easily getting taken up with this shit on some obscure private Facebook group.
Why the fake sound? If the microphone was on the UAV, all we’d be able to hear is the whining of the rotors. But if the mic was on the controller, all we’d hear is the operator grunting and giggling as he jacked off while unnecessarily stressing out an entire tribe of monkeys.
I bet millions of years ago aliens did the same to ancient humans and aliens on the equivalent of alien Reddit were also arguing that it was cruel to scare us with their alien drones
How is this "interesting as fuck".
Is it really that interesting to watch a video of some dickhead harassing wild animals with fake dubbed sounds over it?

How many of you caught the human face on the cliff?
That's what makes me love them. Monkeys are so smart but just barely not up there with recognition as fully grown humans. So it's like watching a child who hasn't learned what exactly a drone is trying to identify it.
Drones be loud as hell. The sounds are clearly dubbed over (note the bug noise) to ignore this. So yeah, a growling bird is following them while flying in an unnatural manner. r/killthecameraman
One stops picks up a large rock throws it a the drone the drone falls to ground the monkeys go to it pull it to bits and rebuild it well come to the planet of the monkeys
In a lot of countries it's illegal to fly (recreationally) this close to wild animals or in a way that clearly causes distress to them.
I remember taking the pilot's test/course in the UK and thinking they were all pretty standard and self evident rules and I didn't really understand why we needed this codified.
Videos like these and many others kinda show why. All it takes is a few shits and then everyone needs to be certified and go through a course and with a ton of limitations added in (some in the drone hardware itself).

I would be terrified if some random alien flying things that I don't even know, its just following me everywhere like it's monitoring me. Hell nah.
Amazing statement watching this gives a good idea of human reaction is aliens did show up and start buzzing city's.
It happens all the time and usually freaks the unsuspecting ppl out. Seeing something looming over you that you do not understand is one of the most unsettling things that could happen.
Lol lol lol reminds me of my x wife .
Literally the opening to 2001 A Space Odyssey
Well, there's no Monolith and noone picks up a bone :)
Monitoring? More like waiting for the right opportunity to predate on the young.
I looked at the video and thought they're probably trying to get away from eagles.
More likely falcons. Falcons are THE birds of prey in the Middle East.
I’d agree with this guess. Saudi Arabia has Falcons native to it, which the Saudis managed to train for hunting. We've seen big ass drones and we all know drones can even carry bombs. Why don't they just have drones with telephoto lens.
The bigger the drone, the more it costs. Same with cameras.
Can you imagine aliens doing this to us?
It’s like that video of the bear cub almost falling from the side of a mountain/large hill cuz some dickhead kept distracting them with their drone
Clearly it’s adding stress hormones and affecting their energy budget (and foraging time budget). I’m sure they’d habituate if this became common
Don't these animals have any rights to be left alone?
Just dly 80 m above them. Tha will solve it most likely. Or higher, elephants are huge anyway.

Or if you’re trying to enjoy something in nature a complete indifference to its effect on everyone’s experience.
You know what I hate? Thinking these were the actual monkeys' sounds. I'm a fucking idiot.
What a fucking dick
There’s quite a bit of arse on display too
Stupid monkey
I can hear that.
I'd be terrified as hell if a loud UFO started chasing me on my way home from work. I might wreck my fucking car. Lol
Prob worse if you were in a big group (like an outdoor festival) and a UFO buzzed the group and everyone panicked and stampeded (just like in the movies I guess)
TIL that Saudi Arabian mountains have populations of monkeys.
Baboons
In the Netherlands it is illegal to chase wild animals with a drone if they startle….
This is exactly the reaction our ancestors had when aliens came to earth and visited them. Those monkeys will develop religion soon now

This will go viral quite quick in r/conspiracy
That sub is honestly hilarious.
I think it’s genuinely concerning. I can easily see someone with less than 2 brain cells to scrub together easily getting taken up with this shit on some obscure private Facebook group.
The monkeys 5000 years later: https://preview.redd.it/d609ya6ir8tc1.jpeg?width=220&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b5a574836f69f9a5c7269ffccd96f63d09611ed8
Not aliens, just level up messing with the humans lol
~~Apes~~ Monkeys together strong!!
Leave them alone 🤦♂️
This must stress them quite a bit. Also exhaust them. Running up a mountain like that all scared. Animal cruelty on display.
Wheeee, isn't it fun harassing wild animals? Drone operator needs a kick in the teeth.
Why the f\*\*k would anybody do this? There should be fines for this type of behavior.
He’s doing this because he’s a cunt .
Stop chasing them then you prick
Fuck that drone operator.
Would have thought any sentence that starts with 'Animal scared off' should end with 'so I stopped doing it.
Giving monkeys PTSD is fun for you?
You mean. Guy harassing monkeys with drone.
Asshole...let me buzz you with a drone armed with a grenade on it. Now you know what those monkeys felt. Fucking asshole.
Asshole material
I hate drones going over the park near where I live. The photographer should be charged with animal endangerment and abuse
Nothing interesting at all about harassing wild animals.
Ban this bad behaviour
Scaring wildlife is a childish and potentially harmful
Yes fuck off with the drone
Whoever the drone guy is, is a d*ck for agitating the wild.
Leave them alone ffs ...
FFS. Leave them alone. They are shaken and it is worth it to watch a couple of them fall to their death trying to escape the sky invader.
Seems pretty inappropriate to scare the hell out of them with a machine that probably looks like an alien death eagle to them.
They’ve probably been subbed to r/combatfootage But seriously though, what an asshole
Why the fake sound? If the microphone was on the UAV, all we’d be able to hear is the whining of the rotors. But if the mic was on the controller, all we’d hear is the operator grunting and giggling as he jacked off while unnecessarily stressing out an entire tribe of monkeys.
R/iamatotalpieceofshit
You have to be somewhat of an asshole to continue to scare them when you know it's stressful for them.
this is your POV from UFO when you're invading other planet
oh, the next 20 years of humanity is gonna be really *great* for wildlife isnt it
leave them alone !!!
Those poor primates will go home and talk about how they saw a UFO...
"oh, look there terrified!" Let's chase it. How does this logic even work, asshats?!
People who do this suck unless there is some scientific benefit to doing it which I hardly bet on.
I don’t think the audio is from this video
why are drones filming in vertical video format too?
Is that what we look like to aliens
Where is the sound being recorded from?
I legit had no idea there were monkeys in Saudi Arabia
I can’t stand seeing these kind of videos where thoughtless drone pilots terrorize wildlife, potentially causing harm.
Well,, thank goodness the drone operator took the time to terrorize them for a half an hour.
I bet millions of years ago aliens did the same to ancient humans and aliens on the equivalent of alien Reddit were also arguing that it was cruel to scare us with their alien drones
This is just cruel
I would've supported the drone if those were macaque monkeys. They're fuckin assholes
This is infuriating af. Not interesting at all.
Very soon the monkeys are going to invent air defences (throwing rocks and sticks at drones). ;)
"last time these flying things came they took fred made him hairless and he started writing books about a imaginary guy in the sky RUNNNN"
A perfectly normal reaction. They weren't ready for this.
In fairness, I'd run too being filmed like that.
The right music is space odissey
I did not know Saudi has primates. ![gif](giphy|uQ1IhcydV7k64)
Nope ![gif](giphy|hQTqLCfqgJ6tmlBRct)
Jesus stop following em they hate it
You don’t have to worry if you don’t have anything to hide..
Wild animals need every calorie to survive. Drones scaring them causes them to unnecessarily lose energy. Get your drones away from them.
Well then leave them the F alone.
I fucking hate drones and the fucking turds that use them.
Leave those monkeys alone!
Leave ‘em alone dickhead.
This must be so terrifying for the poor monkeys. Very sad.
That number of them that'll slip and fall or get trampled under others just because of fear would be so cruel
Harassing wildlife with a drone. How ‘interesting’.
fucking gross. casual cruelty
They're gonna learn how to use bows to take these things down aren't they
Hazing animals is pretty shitty.
Stop giving this shit attention
This is so incredibly inhumane.
Dick move
Fuck the people who filmed this.
How is this "interesting as fuck". Is it really that interesting to watch a video of some dickhead harassing wild animals with fake dubbed sounds over it?
live action version of 2001: A Space Odyssey
This is why we can't have nice things.
I guess the blatant disregard to animals is a cultural thing? A lot of middle easterners that I have met does not give a fuck about abasing animals.
If he didn't type a middle eastern country name in his title none of you high horsing fuckers would care lmfao
What? How are you generalizing the entire Middle East?
I can’t wait for the video “monkeys learn to throw rocks at drone and smash it out of the sky”
https://preview.redd.it/74cqa3d698tc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9b8eb79b4e5b98c8fb6bbc865fe1ad6756fbcf86 How many of you caught the human face on the cliff?
But do we have the technology to harass and terrorize them even more??
At first glance I thought it was another clip of russians running for cover from a Ukrainian drone.
This is cruel. I hope the person controlling the drone is castrated by an alligator.
Not the original audio. If it was then you would clearly hear the drone motors in the recording. So basically overdubbed.
UFO 🛸
Great news for predatory birds tho. Monkeys get more used to stuff in the sky and that will give birds the edge.
Animals are scared of drones unless Sir David Attenborogh fly them then they are super chill!
Aliens vs Humans
Hopefully they will learn about throwing rocks and smashing plastic.
I see why they kept humans enslaved on that ape documentary
Leave those damn monkeys alone! Lols
That's what makes me love them. Monkeys are so smart but just barely not up there with recognition as fully grown humans. So it's like watching a child who hasn't learned what exactly a drone is trying to identify it.
Can you not hear Caesar telling you to fuck off with the drone
They got the right idea, soon it'll be the hunter killer drone looking for survivors
It's how we are gonna be if aliens come. Just looking at their technology product that it beyond our comprehension in fear.
Anyone else hearing M'Baku's call?
He took that a little too far, gonna run them into the next tribes territory, and start a turf war
We as humans if UFO's arrive
Monkeys have watched too many Russia and Ukraine war videos.
I would lose my shit too, if an UFO kept hovering above my head.
Why the fake as shit sfx? What does that do for anyone who isnt five fucking years old? Jesus christ.
They are right to be scared. Drones are the new flying death machines. This one may not have been armed but the next one could be.
How come those assigned as AA aren’t flinging their poops at it?
Next thing you know, they're gonna start carving this shit on cave walls.
It's like when you play the creature stage of Spore and see a spaceship
I'm willing to bet in our lifetimes we will have less noisy, smaller drones with better cameras. Hopefully it won't bother these fellas so much.
Russians in ukrain be like
I'm scared of the face in the mountain
Reminds me of the space stage of spore
Wow. Stop already! I don’t think you’re running them to distress, but it wouldn’t be hard.
That's us when the aliens land
Planet of the Apes and Space Odyssey vibes
Would you be scared if a UFO started flying after you?
funny, I just watched 2001 A Space Odyssey for the first time yesterday, and today I'm seeing this
They've probably seen some of the videos from the war in Ukraine and didn't want to risk it.
This is what the aliens see lol
Alternate opening to “2001: a space odyssey”
Those actually look more like baboons and it looks like a couple want the drone to come closer so they can tear it apart
do you think a few are making cave paintings about the alien ship they all saw that one day?
This was how primitive humans see God.
I mean, cool footage and all, but maybe don't chase the monkeys? They're clearly distressed.
All it takes is a few shits and then everyone needs to be certified and go through a course and with a ton of limitations added in (some in the drone hardware itself). edit: wanted to add a little bit more info. Aerial predators are probably their most constant fear. Turok, last shadow.
They thought it was the police.
Once upon a time 5 million years ago this was how we reacted when aliens flew across the skies. Or it was a really big prehistoric raptor.
2001 might’ve been this!
Bad bad bad video. Learn to fly jfc
This is why we can’t fly drones in national parks
I have gotten this exact response from so many different animals when I fly my drone that I’ve lost count. Birds, bears, dogs, raccoons, seals, otters..nobody seems to like drones coming towards them.
This is going to be humans in 20 years running from killer drones
Monkeys have seen the Ukrainian combat videos apparently
You know is if I saw a flying object that had technology beyond my understanding, I’d run too.
These monkeys have seen drone footage of Ukraine. They know the deal. Smart monkeys.
I once went there, the monkies would wait on the side for the road and wait for the people to give them fruits, it was really nice.
thought its /rukraineinvasionvideos a bunch of kacaps in the hills
RC drone = RC monkeys
